welcome NOTES

How Pet Franchises Are Reshaping America’s Love for Animals

SMALL ANIMALS LIKE HAMSTERS, RABBITS, GUINEA PIGS, ETC. ARE IN 6.7 MILLION HOUSEHOLDS.

In 2025, the bond between Americans and their pets has never been stronger—or more profitable. With 66% of U.S. households owning a pet, totaling approximately 86.9 million homes, the pet industry has burgeoned into a $152 billion market, projected to reach $157 billion by year-end. This extraordinary growth reflects a deeper cultural transformation: pets are no longer just companions—they are family.

A recent Forbes Advisor survey found that more than half of pet owners (51%) consider their pets to be as much a part of the family as a human member. In fact, nearly half of Gen Z pet owners

refer to their pets as their “children,” revealing the powerful emotional connection people now share with their animals.

This emotional bond spans all species. The most popular pets in the U.S. include:

• Dogs – 65.1 million households

• Cats – 46.5 million households

• Freshwater fish – 11.1 million households

• Small animals (hamsters, rabbits, guinea pigs, etc.) – 6.7 million households

• Birds – 6.1 million households

Pet ownership is also closely tied to generational identity and income. Millennials

now represent the largest share of pet owners (33%), followed by Gen X (25%) and baby boomers (24%). Interestingly, Gen Z pet owners (ages 18–25) are significantly more likely to have a variety of pets, including small mammals and birds, whereas Gen X pet owners are least likely to branch beyond dogs and cats.

The pandemic years also played a major role: 78% of current pet owners acquired their animals during COVID-19, creating an unprecedented spike in demand for pet-related services.

RESTING RAINBOW: TURNING PERSONAL LOSS INTO A FRANCHISE SUCCESS

Amid this booming landscape, Resting Rainbow Pet Memorials and Cremation has emerged as a powerful case study in transforming grief into growth. At Franchise Journal, we are proud that we featured this innovative company on our June 2023 cover and after checking in 2 years later, the growth has been astounding! The company was founded in Florida after the owners experienced a painful and impersonal process when saying goodbye to their beloved dog. What began as a deeply emotional mission—to provide compassionate, dignified end-of-life care for pets—soon resonated with thousands of likeminded pet lovers.

Resting Rainbow’s model fills a sensitive but important niche in the pet ecosystem. Offering private cremation, custom urns, grief counseling, and optional memorial services, the company approaches pet aftercare with empathy and innovation. In less than a year, it has expanded to dozens of franchisees, each serving their local community by helping families navigate the loss of a cherished animal companion.

Resting Rainbow has quickly become Florida’s top-rated pet funeral business, and its franchisees are aligned by a common purpose: to help grieving families heal with dignity and love.

THE RISE OF PET FRANCHISES: MEETING DIVERSE NEEDS

Resting Rainbow’s success is part of a larger movement—one where entrepreneurs are tapping into the $150+ billion pet economy through a variety of innovative business models. As pet ownership becomes more universal and more emotionally significant, consumer demand has shifted toward specialized, highquality services.

Several franchises have risen to meet those needs:

• Dogtopia – Premium dog daycare, boarding, and spa services with a focus on wellness and socialization.

• DoodyCalls – Pet waste removal services that provide convenience and cleanliness for homeowners and communities.

• Pet Supplies Plus – A popular retail chain offering grooming, food, toys, and self-service pet wash stations.

• Pet Wants – Delivers fresh, small-batch pet food with a focus on quality ingredients and customized nutrition.

• PetWellClinic – A growing chain of walkin veterinary clinics offering affordable and accessible pet healthcare.

• Playful Pack – Dog daycare and boarding designed to promote socialization and reduce separation anxiety.

• Splash and Dash – Combines grooming with boutique retail, giving pets a luxurious experience while shopping for supplies.

• Woofie’s – Offers pet sitting, dog walking, and mobile grooming—all delivered with whiteglove service.

• Zoom Room – A dog training and social club focused on agility, behavior, and bonding through structured classes. These brands illustrate the incredible diversity of pet services available to today’s consumers. Whether it’s preventive healthcare, premium nutrition, or dignified end-of-life care, there’s a franchise model designed to meet the specific— and often emotional—needs of pet owners.

AS OF 2022, MORE THAN 4.8 MILLION PETS WERE INSURED—A 124.9% INCREASE SINCE 2018.

PET INSURANCE & FINANCIAL TRENDS: A SMARTER PET ECONOMY

Alongside service-based businesses, pet insurance has emerged as another growth engine. As of 2022, more than 4.8 million pets were insured—a 124.9% increase since 2018. With veterinary costs rising and pets considered family, more households are turning to insurance as a way to protect their budgets and provide top-tier care for their animals.

Notably, households earning $100,000 or more annually are the most likely to own pets—63% own dogs, and 40% own cats. This aligns with the upward trends in premium services, suggesting that pet spending will continue to rise in correlation with household income and discretionary spending.

THE FUTURE OF PET FRANCHISING: COMPASSION MEETS COMMERCE

The U.S. pet industry is no longer defined solely by toys and kibble—it is a human-centric, emotion-driven economy. Brands that deliver on trust, consistency, and compassion are emerging as category leaders, precisely because they meet the modern pet owner's expectations of care, connection, and quality.

Franchises like Resting Rainbow are proving that even in emotionally challenging spaces like pet memorial services, it is possible to scale a business that remains deeply personal. As more entrepreneurs look for franchise opportunities with purpose and impact, the pet sector offers fertile ground.

In conclusion, the pet industry represents one of the most promising and resilient sectors in franchising today. Whether you’re building a business in grooming, daycare, veterinary care, nutrition, or memorial services, the data is clear: Americans are spending more on their pets than ever before, and they’re looking for brands that treat their pets like family.

Companies like Resting Rainbow have shown that with empathy, innovation, and operational excellence, it’s possible to not only build a successful franchise—but also one that helps people heal, connect, and celebrate the animals they love most.

My Second Home – A Premier Haven for Pets in Dubai, UAE

In the heart of Dubai’s everevolving landscape lies a sanctuary dedicated not just to the care of pets but to their happiness, health, and holistic well-being—My Second Home.

More than a pet boarding facility, My Second Home is a luxury resort for dogs that has redefined pet care in the UAE. It is a place where pets are treated not as animals but as cherished members of the family, and every detail is crafted to ensure that they feel at home, loved, and safe. This concept has not only captured the hearts of pet parents in the Emirates but has also set a new benchmark for pet care across the region.

Founded in response to a growing demand for premium pet services, My Second Home was created with a simple yet profound philosophy: to offer pets a second home that is as comfortable, joyful, and nurturing as their first. Located in Dubai Investment Park and recently expanded to include a second branch in Al Quoz, the facility stands out for its sheer scale, advanced infrastructure, and dedication to quality. Spanning over 18,000 square meters, the original branch remains one of the largest indoor dog parks and boarding facilities in the Middle East.

Upon entering My Second

Home, the first impression is that of a five-star hotel rather than a kennel. The architectural design, soft lighting, spacious play zones, and tranquil lounges all speak to an environment that is thoughtfully designed. There are no cages or cramped spaces here. Instead, dogs enjoy climate-controlled suites, complete with cozy bedding, calming music, and attentive supervision. Whether staying for a night or several weeks, pets are made to feel relaxed and secure, thanks to a staff of trained handlers and veterinary support professionals who provide round-the-clock care. Play and exercise are at the core of what My Second Home offers. Dogs are grouped by size,

temperament, and energy level, and participate in supervised play sessions throughout the day. The facility includes vast indoor and outdoor parks with soft turf, shaded areas, pools, and agility courses. Dogs can run freely, chase balls, climb ramps, or simply roll in the grass under the Dubai sun. For dogs with high energy or specific training needs, personalized exercise programs can be arranged, including one-onone walks, treadmill sessions, or obedience training with certified behaviorists.

What makes My Second Home even more unique is its strong sense of community. The facility regularly hosts social events

such as dog birthday parties, adoption days in partnership with local rescue groups, and dog-owner fitness classes. These events foster bonding not just between pets and their owners, but also among fellow pet lovers, creating a tight-knit community within Dubai’s urban sprawl. Owners often speak of the relief and joy they feel, knowing their pets are not only cared for but are genuinely having fun, socializing, and developing emotionally in their absence. The services offered go far beyond boarding and playtime. My Second Home also features an in-house grooming salon that caters to all breeds and coat types. Whether it’s a routine wash or a full spa treatment, pets are pampered with top-ofthe-line grooming products in a calm, hygienic environment. Their team of groomers are trained to handle pets gently and skillfully, ensuring a stressfree experience. In addition, the facility offers training programs ranging from basic obedience to advanced behavior correction, helping pets become more confident and well-adjusted. A particularly valuable

aspect of My Second Home is its transparency and tech integration. Parents can track their dog’s stay and activities through updates and media shared by the team. Cameras in play areas give peace of mind to owners who want to check in and see their pets having a good time. Moreover, the facility has strong partnerships with veterinary services, ensuring any health concerns are swiftly addressed and communicated.

One cannot speak of My Second Home without mentioning its second branch in Al Quoz, which opened in response to the overwhelming demand for its services. While smaller in footprint, it maintains the same quality standards and luxurious experience. Its central location makes it more accessible to pet parents living in other parts of Dubai, further strengthening My Second Home’s position as a leader in the pet care industry. The success of My Second Home is a testament to the shift in how pets are viewed in modern society—no longer as mere companions but as integral members of the family. With

Dubai being a melting pot of global cultures and standards, the expectations for pet care are high, and My Second Home rises to meet them. Their team, comprising passionate animal lovers, veterinarians, trainers, and customer care specialists, works together with a shared mission: to give every pet the comfort, care, and joy they deserve.

In conclusion, My Second Home is far more than a boarding kennel—it is a lifestyle destination for pets. It reflects the growing awareness and commitment to animal welfare in the UAE and offers a safe, enriching space where dogs can thrive socially, emotionally, and physically. As Dubai continues to grow as a global hub for luxury living, My Second Home ensures that this standard of excellence extends to its four-legged residents as well. Whether a local resident or a frequent traveler, pet owners can find confidence and comfort in leaving their pets in the capable hands of My Second Home, where every tail wags with happiness. your transformation begins.

Pawsh Club – Redefining Luxury Pet Care in Doha, Qatar

In a city as modern and rapidly growing as Doha, where attention to luxury, detail, and quality permeates nearly every aspect of life, it is only fitting that pet care services have also evolved to match the expectations of discerning residents. Situated in a prime location in Doha, Pawsh Club was established with a mission to offer more than the standard care options for dogs and cats. The founders envisioned a place where pets would be treated as family, receiving not just shelter or grooming, but an enriching and enjoyable experience that supports their well-being. This vision is evident the moment one walks into the facility. From its sleek, modern interior to its state-of-the-art grooming salons and expansive play areas, Pawsh Club was clearly designed with both aesthetics and functionality in mind.

One of the key strengths of Pawsh Club lies in its daycare and boarding services. Understanding that pet owners often lead busy lifestyles or need to travel, Pawsh Club offers safe, supervised, and comfortable spaces for pets to stay, whether for a few hours or several days. Unlike conventional boarding kennels, where pets may be confined to small spaces for long periods,

Pawsh Club creates a homelike environment with open, airy play zones and private suites tailored to suit different breeds, sizes, and temperaments. Dogs are grouped accordingly and monitored by experienced staff trained in pet behavior and emergency response.

Socialization and stimulation are core elements of the daily routine at Pawsh Club. Dogs are engaged in structured playtime, including interactive games, obstacle courses, and relaxation breaks, all carefully scheduled to ensure balance and minimize stress. Cats, too, have their own serene and enriching environment, complete with climbing areas, toys, and soft bedding, away from the noise and bustle of the dog zones. Every detail is thoughtfully

curated to mimic the comfort of home, reducing anxiety and promoting positive behavior.

Another hallmark of Pawsh Club is its full-service grooming salon, which has earned a reputation for excellence among Doha's pet owners. Offering everything from basic washes and nail trimming to breed-specific styling and coat treatments, the grooming team combines expert technique with gentle handling. Hygiene, safety, and comfort are paramount. The staff uses high-quality products that are safe for sensitive skin and adapted to the region’s climate. Whether a pet requires a simple cleanup or a full spa session, the grooming experience at Pawsh Club is designed to be stressfree and enjoyable.

Beyond the physical services,

what truly sets Pawsh Club apart is the level of trust it fosters with its clients. The club emphasizes transparency and open communication. Regular updates, photos, and even live video access allow pet parents to feel connected to their animals at all times. This transparency not only brings peace of mind but also reflects the strong ethical values on which the club is built. Staff members are not just employees—they are passionate animal lovers who treat every pet as their own. This deep care and personal connection have led many pet owners to form lasting relationships with the team, returning again and again with confidence.

In addition to individual services, Pawsh Club plays a significant role in the local pet community. It regularly organizes social events, adoption drives, training workshops, and meet-andgreets, bringing together pet owners and promoting responsible pet ownership in Qatar. These events are more than just entertainment; they build a sense of community and support. They also provide excellent opportunities for pets to socialize, which is vital for their mental and emotional health.

Pawsh Club is also conscious of the need for education in the pet care space. New pet owners can often feel overwhelmed, and the team provides guidance on everything from feeding routines and behavior management to health concerns and grooming

schedules. The club collaborates with local veterinarians to ensure pets staying at the facility have access to immediate medical care if needed. While not a veterinary clinic itself, its coordination with medical professionals ensures a holistic approach to pet wellness.

A particularly admirable aspect of Pawsh Club is its dedication to ethical standards. They have strict policies around animal safety, vaccinations, and behavioral evaluations before pets are accepted into group play settings. This not only protects the animals under their care but also ensures a secure and harmonious environment for all pets present. Their processes reflect international best practices, and the facility itself is maintained at the highest standards of cleanliness and safety.

Pawsh Club also acknowledges the emotional bond between pets and their owners. For many, leaving a pet—even for a day— can be a stressful experience. That’s why the club goes the extra mile to make the transition easier. First-time visitors are often invited for a free meetand-greet session, during which the pet can explore the space, meet the staff, and gradually adjust before their stay. These thoughtful practices not only reduce separation anxiety for the pet but also give the owner peace of mind.

As Qatar continues to grow

into a regional hub of culture, business, and lifestyle, services like Pawsh Club are becoming increasingly vital. They cater to an international population that values high-quality care for their pets and are helping to raise awareness about the importance of mental and emotional well-being for animals. Pawsh Club stands at the intersection of luxury and compassion, offering a level of care that reflects both love and professionalism.

In summary, Pawsh Club is not just a pet service provider; it is a comprehensive pet care experience that sets the standard for quality, safety, and compassion in Doha. With its luxurious facilities, committed team, and community-driven philosophy, it offers a true second home for pets—one where they can play, learn, rest, and thrive. Whether it’s for a short grooming session or an extended stay, Pawsh Club ensures that every visit is filled with comfort, joy, and the highest level of care.

Why Choose a Pet Franchise? The Cute, Cuddly, and Profitable Side of Business

The global pet care industry is booming— an estimated sixtysix percent of U.S. households, or about 86.9 million families, own a pet, according to the 2023-2024 National Pet Owners Survey conducted by the American Pet Products Association (APPA). As a result, businesses connected to pets can be quite lucrative. Currently, the pet

industry brings in $100 billion a year, but it’s poised to triple to $275 billion by 2030.

But beyond the numbers and market forecasts lies a deeper motivation driving entrepreneurs to invest in this space: love for animals. For many, choosing a pet franchise isn’t just about chasing profits. It’s about blending business with passion, purpose, and a whole lot of adorable, tailwagging moments. Whether you're an aspiring business owner or a lifelong pet lover looking to make a difference in your community, the pet care industry offers a rare and rewarding opportunity.

So, when it comes to pet franchises that embody everything cute, cuddly, and customer-focused, what should you consider when finding one that stands out from the pack?

A GROWING MARKET FUELED BY FUR BABIES

Over the past two decades, pets have become family members celebrated with birthday parties, holiday gifts, custom diets, and even mental wellness plans. Millennials and Gen Zers, in particular,

are fueling this cultural shift, prioritizing pet companionship and treating animals as integral parts of their lives. In fact, as of 2024, 18.8 million Gen Z households owned a pet, a 43.5% increase from 2023. This generation is also more likely to own multiple pets, with 70% of Gen Z pet owners reporting they have two or more animals. As a result, services like dog walking, mobile grooming, and pet sitting are no longer luxuries. They’re essential. This evolution in pet ownership has made pet-related services a dependable and lucrative investment. The demand for trustworthy, convenient, and compassionate care is at an alltime high, making it a prime time to explore franchise ownership in this space.

WHY FRANCHISING MAKES SENSE

Starting a business from scratch comes with challenges: branding, operational logistics, customer acquisition, and building trust in a competitive market. A pet care franchise helps mitigate those challenges by offering an

established business model, marketing support, and ongoing training. It’s a chance to hit the ground running— with a team behind you that knows what works.

One of the most fulfilling aspects of owning a pet care business is the daily interaction with pets and the people who love them. Whether it's a senior dog getting a gentle spa treatment, a high-energy pup enjoying their daily walk, or a cat who needs careful attention while its owner is away, every day brings a new opportunity to spread joy.

A good franchise brand is built on strong customer relationships, compassionate care, and the undeniable charm of four-legged clients. Franchisees aren’t just running a business—they’re creating meaningful moments for pets and peace of mind for owners.

Plus, let’s be honest: what could be better than spending your workday surrounded by wagging tails and happy purrs?

MEET WOOFIE’S: A FRANCHISE THAT’S ALL HEART

Founded in 2004 by neighbors Amy Reed and Leslie Barron in Ashburn, Virginia, Woofie’s began with a simple mission: to provide reliable, compassionate pet care to local families. After leaving the corporate world, the duo turned their passion for pets into a thriving business that now offers full-service mobile pet grooming, dog walking, and pet sitting. What started as a neighborhood solution has

become a nationwide franchise opportunity for animal lovers. Today, Woofie’s is the only franchise in the massive pet care sector to offer all three services, including mobile grooming, dog walking, and pet sitting under one trusted brand.

WHY ENTREPRENEURS LOVE WOOFIE’S

What makes Woofie’s especially appealing to aspiring franchise owners?

1. MOBILE SERVICES MEAN FLEXIBILITY AND LOW OVERHEAD

Woofie’s mobile model means franchisees don’t need a storefront. Services like mobile grooming and at-home pet care keep overhead low while offering unmatched convenience for customers. This model also allows for a scalable business that grows with demand, ideal for entrepreneurs looking for growth potential without the cost of a physical location.

2. A BUSINESS THAT MAKES AN IMPACT

Pet owners see their animals as family. Providing exceptional care builds trust, loyalty, and word-of-mouth referrals. Franchisees become known in their communities as reliable, loving caretakers, which is both a powerful business advantage and a deeply rewarding role.

3. ROBUST TRAINING AND SUPPORT

Franchisees receive in-depth training, marketing support, and access to proven systems

that streamline everything from scheduling to customer management. You don’t need to be a vet or a groomer— just someone who cares about quality, consistency, and making pets (and their humans) happy.

4. BRAND RECOGNITION AND TRUST

Woofie’s has spent two decades building a stellar reputation for quality and compassion. As a franchisee, you inherit that trust and credibility—something that can take years to develop independently.

THE FUTURE IS FURRY

The trends are clear: pet ownership continues to rise, and with it, the demand for high-quality, accessible services. Pet parents are more discerning than ever, looking for businesses that truly understand and love animals. Whether you’re looking for a career change, seeking a business that aligns with your passion, or simply want a chance to be your own boss, a franchise offers a rare opportunity to do work that’s both profitable and personally fulfilling.

A PAW-SITIVE STEP TOWARD BUSINESS OWNERSHIP

Choosing a pet franchise isn’t just a business decision—it’s a lifestyle choice. It means spending your days improving the lives of animals and their families. It means creating

jobs in your community. And it means waking up every morning knowing your work brings joy, comfort, and companionship to those who need it most.

Pet care is different in a world where many businesses feel transactional and impersonal. It’s heart-centered, service-driven, and endlessly rewarding. And for the right person, it’s the perfect path to entrepreneurial success.

FINAL WOOF

From puppy kisses to grateful pet parents, the rewards of owning a pet care franchise go far beyond the bottom line. With its flexible model, caring culture, and trusted reputation,

Woofie’s is leading the way for those ready to turn their passion into a purpose-driven business.

My Life With Pets: Love, Loss, and Family

Growing up in a house full of animals has shaped how I see the world. Some of my earliest and happiest memories are with my dogs—especially my Shih Tzus, Hippy and Bobo, and our sweet, gentle dog CC, who we lost not long ago. CC was more than a dog. He was a constant presence in my life, always curled up by the couch, licking our hands, watching us eat like she was part of the conversation. Losing him wasn’t just the loss of a pet—it felt like losing a piece of our family. And in a way, we did. When I think about how my family treats our dogs, it’s clear: these aren’t just animals. They’re family members. Hippy and Bobo have their own personalities—Hippy is curious and sometimes chaotic, while Bobo is basically a fuzzy old man with a big heart and a giant appetite. My family plans vacations around them. We’ve bought airline tickets so they could fly with us instead of staying behind. We pack treats, soft blankets, and special food when we travel. Sometimes I think they get more attention than we do!

That kind of love for pets isn’t just something that happens in my home. I see it everywhere. When I go to the pet store, people are spending

serious money on gourmet food, plush toys, outfits, even birthday cakes for dogs. I’m not kidding—I once saw a mini dog birthday cake that cost more than a whole dinner for a person. But people buy it, because pets matter. They’re not just animals—they’re part of our lives, and businesses have figured that out.

As a teenager thinking about the future, I find it interesting how the love people have for their pets is shaping entire industries. There are pet spas,

dog hotels, mobile groomers, and even dog bakeries. I’ve heard of people having professional photoshoots for their dogs. And then there’s the more serious stuff, like veterinary clinics that offer advanced care, pet insurance plans, and even grief counseling when someone loses their pet.

I’ve also watched my dad help businesses that help people who love their pets. One of them is Resting Rainbow, a pet funeral and cremation service

that started after we lost CC. It offers families a way to say goodbye with the same love and dignity they’d give to any other family member. I’ve seen firsthand how much it means to people. Some families write letters to their pets, others hold small ceremonies. It’s emotional, but it’s also beautiful. It shows that pet love doesn’t end when the animal is gone. That connection is deep. It makes me think about how real the humanization of pets is. It’s not a trend—it’s a reflection of something lasting. More people are living alone, or choosing pets instead of kids, or simply realizing how much joy and comfort an animal brings. Pets don’t judge, they don’t betray you, and they’re always happy to see you. That kind of love means a lot, especially in a world that feels stressful and disconnected sometimes.

And it’s not just good for the soul—it’s changing how people spend money. Everywhere I look, there are pet franchises popping up: doggy daycares like Dogtopia, fresh pet food delivery like Pet Wants, even places like Zoom Room that do training and social events for dogs. It’s a booming business, and I think it’ll keep growing because it’s not based on hype. It’s based on real emotions. I don’t know exactly what I’ll do when I’m older. But I know I want to be around animals. I want to keep that feeling of love and loyalty in my life. Maybe I’ll start my own pet business someday, or maybe I’ll just always be the guy with a couple of dogs riding shotgun in my car, taking them to the

"PETS DON’T JUDGE, THEY DON’T BETRAY YOU, AND THEY’RE ALWAYS HAPPY TO SEE YOU."

beach, feeding them snacks from the passenger seat. That sounds like a good life to me.

To anyone who doesn’t understand the love people have for their pets, I’d say this: wait until you’ve been comforted by a dog after a rough day, or welcomed home with excited paws and a wagging tail. Then you’ll get it. It’s not just about pets. It’s about family. And for people like me—and millions of others—that love is real, and it’s

From Pet Shops to Pet Empires: The Evolution of the Pet Franchise Industry from the 1960s to Today

The pet franchise industry in the United States has undergone a dramatic transformation over the past six decades. What began as a relatively modest retailbased sector in the 1960s has evolved into a multi-billiondollar industry encompassing grooming, boarding, training, pet health, food delivery, and even pet services such as memorials and cremation. This shift reflects not only changes in consumer behavior but also the broader cultural evolution in how Americans view and care for their pets.

THE 1960S: THE BIRTH OF FRANCHISED PET RETAIL

In the 1960s, the American pet industry was still in its infancy.

Pets were typically sourced from local breeders, farms, or animal shelters, and pet care was rudimentary compared to today’s standards. Pet ownership was common, but not considered a lifestyle in the way it is today. Most pet stores were small, independent businesses with limited offerings.

The foundation for the modern pet franchise industry was laid in 1967 with the creation of Petland, which is widely considered the first national pet store franchise in the U.S. Founded in Chillicothe, Ohio, Petland offered a standardized retail experience and access to a wide range of pets, supplies, and advice under one roof. At the time, the franchising model was gaining traction across various industries, and Petland successfully applied this structure to pet retail.

Petland’s early growth reflected a changing American consumer culture— one that increasingly valued convenience, brand recognition, and a consistent shopping experience. In an era dominated by suburban expansion and shopping malls, Petland was wellpositioned to capitalize on growing demand.

1970S–1980S: EXPANSION AND ETHICAL CONCERNS

As the franchise model proved effective, more pet retailers began exploring franchising in the 1970s and 1980s. However, the industry also began to face scrutiny. Concerns over the treatment of animals in commercial breeding facilities (commonly referred to as "puppy mills") and the welfare of animals sold in pet stores became increasingly public. These concerns prompted a gradual shift within the industry. While retail remained central, many franchise operators began expanding their offerings beyond animal sales to include products, grooming services, and educational resources for pet care. The increasing presence of veterinarians and pet care professionals helped shape a more ethical and informed approach to pet ownership.

1990S–2000S: DIVERSIFICATION OF PET SERVICES

By the 1990s, pet ownership in the U.S. had become a defining aspect of many households. People were spending more on their pets,

and the industry responded by diversifying its offerings. Franchises began to emerge not only in retail but also in niche services such as grooming (e.g., Pet Supplies Plus, founded in 1988), training (e.g., Bark Busters, launched in the U.S. in 2000), boarding (Camp Bow Wow, founded in 2000), and pet sitting (Fetch! Pet Care, established in 2002). This period also saw the rise of premiumization in pet care—consumers were willing to spend more for higherquality products and services. This trend encouraged the growth of pet franchises that emphasized natural foods, luxury boarding, spa-style grooming, and even behavioral therapy.

The franchise model continued to thrive because it allowed entrepreneurs to enter a booming market with brand support, proven systems, and scalable business models. Petfocused franchises became especially appealing to passionate pet lovers seeking business opportunities aligned with their interests.

2010S–TODAY: A PETCENTRIC CULTURE AND DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION

The 2010s brought a further explosion in pet spending, driven by millennial and Gen Z pet owners who view pets as family members and even "fur babies." This cultural shift has had profound implications for the pet franchise industry. Modern pet franchises now cater to a wide range of consumer needs, including:

• Mobile Grooming and Care (e.g., Splash and Dash, Woofies)

• Pet Food Services (e.g., Pet

Wants, Pet Supplies Plus)

• Pet Hotels and Daycare Centers (e.g., Dogtopia, The Dog Stop, Playful Pack)

• Health & Wellness and Training (e.g., PetWellClinic, Trusted Paws Dog

• Training Academy, Zoom Room)

• Pet Memorials & Cremation (e.g., Resting Rainbow) Technology has also transformed the industry. Many pet franchises now rely on apps and online booking systems to provide seamless customer experiences. Subscriptionbased services and e-commerce have expanded revenue streams beyond brickand-mortar locations.

Ethical sourcing, sustainability, and transparency have also become central themes. Modern franchises often emphasize their commitment to responsible breeding practices, adoption partnerships, and holistic pet wellness.

ECONOMIC IMPACT AND OUTLOOK

As of the mid-2020s, the U.S. pet industry is worth over $136 billion, with pet services representing one of the fastest-growing segments. Franchises continue to play a pivotal role, offering scalable models that meet the demands of a discerning, petloving public.

What began as a relatively straightforward business— selling pets and supplies— has become a dynamic, customer-centric industry that touches nearly every aspect of pet ownership. Today's pet franchises not only provide goods and services but also serve as community hubs for pet lovers.

THE FUTURE

The evolution of the pet franchise industry from the 1960s to today mirrors broader societal shifts in consumer behavior, ethics, and technology. From Petland’s early franchising efforts to today’s sophisticated, tech-savvy operations like Dogtopia and Pet Wants, the industry has matured into a vital part of the American economy and lifestyle. As pets continue to occupy a cherished role in our lives, the pet franchise industry is poised to grow even further, driven by innovation, compassion, and a deep bond between people and their animals.

Pet Doctor Shops: A Business That Stays Strong When Money Gets Tight

A SMART IDEA BORN DURING TOUGH TIMES

Dr. Sam Meisler started PetWellClinic when many people were losing jobs. He saw that pet owners needed cheap and quick vet care. He got the idea from walk-in clinics for people and opened his first pet clinic in 2010. Starting in hard times helped make his business strong. His simple plan was to offer basic pet care that people could afford, even when money was tight.

WHY PET CLINICS KEEP GOING WHEN TIMES ARE HARD

The pet care business stays strong even when people have less money. Pet owners still spend money on their pets' health no matter what. PetWellClinic offers cheap check-ups, help for small problems, and care for pets with ongoing issues. This makes it a key place for pet owners who want good care without spending too much.

Even during tough times, people make sure their pets are healthy, which helps these clinics keep making money.

MEETING THE BIG NEED FOR PET CARE

More and more people have pets now, so more vet care is needed. PetWellClinic lets people walk in without making an appointment first. This works well for busy pet owners who want fast service. It also helps

regular vet offices by taking care of the simple stuff. The clinics focus on common pet needs like shots, minor illness care, and help with skin problems. This fills a gap in the market that big animal hospitals don't always serve well.

SMART DESIGN KEEPS COSTS DOWN

One big reason PetWellClinic works so well is its small shop size. Most clinics only need about 1,200 square feet of space. This small footprint means owners pay less rent and spend less on utilities each month. The clinics also run with a small staff - usually just one vet and one or two helpers. Having fewer workers keeps the payroll costs down, which is often the biggest expense for any business. The smart layout means the small team can still help many pets each day without feeling rushed or crowded.

LESS EQUIPMENT MEANS LOWER STARTUP COSTS

Unlike big animal hospitals, PetWellClinic doesn't need expensive machines like X-ray equipment or surgery tools. The clinics focus on basic care, so they only need simple medical supplies. This means owners spend much less money to open their doors. It also means less can break down or need fixing later. The simple model cuts out many of the big costs that make other vet businesses hard to run.

AN EASY BUSINESS TO START

PetWellClinic makes it simple to open and run a clinic. They give owners full training, help

PETWELLCLINIC OFFERS CHEAP CHECK-UPS, HELP FOR SMALL PROBLEMS, AND CARE FOR PETS WITH ONGOING ISSUES.

when needed, and special systems to make work easier and keep customers happy. You don't need to be a vet to own one - you can hire vets while you run the business side. The company has clear plans for everything from how to set up your shop to the best ways to find new customers.

A BUSINESS YOU CAN AFFORD TO START

It costs between $274,000 and $655,000 to open a PetWellClinic. This is less money than many other health businesses cost to start. This price includes the fee to join, equipment, and other costs to get going. Because the clinics need less space and equipment than full animal hospitals, more people can afford to become owners.

A GROWING GROUP WITH STRONG HELP

PetWellClinic has more and more shops opening across America. This shows their plan works and people want their services. Owners get help from the brand name getting known and from a team that wants them to do well. This creates a community of business owners

who love pets and want to run great businesses.

For entrepreneurs wanting a business that stays strong even in hard times, PetWellClinic offers a perfect chance. Its new way of giving vet care, small shop size, low staffing needs, and strong help system make it stand out from other businesses. The focus on keeping costs low while still giving good pet care means owners can make money even when the economy isn't great. By joining PetWellClinic, owners can help their communities while building a steady business that makes money in good times and bad.

Marketing that Works

A Growing Global Tradition: How Kukur Tihar Is Becoming the "Christmas for Dogs"

Move over, National Dog Day. There's a deeper, more meaningful celebration of man’s best friend beginning to take root across the globe—Kukur Tihar. Originating from Nepal’s ancient Hindu tradition, this festival honors dogs not merely as pets, but as sacred companions, protectors, and friends. Now, the cultural heartbeat of this celebration is finding resonance far beyond the Himalayas, emerging as what many are calling a “Christmas for dogs.”

Each year during the five-day Tihar festival in Nepal, a special day is devoted entirely to dogs. On this day, canines—whether they’re beloved household pets or street dogs—are adorned with vibrant flower garlands (mala), anointed with a red mark (tika) on their foreheads as a blessing, and offered delicious treats as a symbol of gratitude. It’s a powerful visual and spiritual expression of the timeless bond between humans and dogs—rooted in reverence, not just affection. That powerful symbolism has begun crossing borders. In recent years, efforts have been underway to share the spirit of Kukur Tihar with

the world. One of the early champions of this movement is a U.S.-based community leader of Nepalese heritage who has worked diligently to create broader awareness of the tradition. His initiative proposes the last Sunday of October as a unified, global celebration of Kukur Tihar—offering families, pet owners, and communities an opportunity to participate in honoring their canine companions, regardless of cultural or religious background.

From local dog parks in Virginia to public events in Mexico, Kukur Tihar-inspired celebrations are gaining momentum. In cities across North America, communities have begun organizing dog

blessing ceremonies, adoption events, and gatherings where people come together to appreciate the dogs in their lives. The message is universal: in a world where so much divides us, the love we share for our dogs can bring us together. Why does Kukur Tihar hold such promise as a global tradition?

First, it taps into the profound emotional connection between humans and dogs. In an age of digital overload and social fragmentation, dogs remain one of our most grounding sources of love and presence. They ask for little, give endlessly, and stand loyally beside us. Kukur Tihar provides a ritualized opportunity to

pause and express gratitude for that relationship.

Second, the celebration’s approach to animal welfare is joy-centered. Rather than focusing solely on the challenges or crises animals face—a necessary but often heavy narrative—Kukur Tihar invites celebration and recognition of the good. This positivity makes it highly accessible and emotionally appealing to a wide audience. The core elements of the festival are also remarkably adaptable. While the Nepalese rituals of mala and tika carry deep cultural significance, the heart of the celebration is simple: honor dogs, shower them with love, and recognize their value. Whether it’s through special treats, pampering sessions, or community events, the sentiment translates seamlessly across cultures.

There is even an economic dimension to consider. If widely embraced, a designated "Dog Christmas" could fuel seasonal growth for the pet care industry—from themed toys and treats to events, grooming services, and hospitality. Small businesses, particularly those serving pet-loving communities, stand to benefit from this emerging tradition.

Of course, establishing a new global holiday isn’t instantaneous. It takes advocacy, storytelling, and above all, community buy-in. But the growing momentum is unmistakable. From social media buzz to grassroots initiatives, Kukur Tihar is increasingly finding its way into the public consciousness—not

just as a cultural import, but as a shared expression of love and respect for dogs everywhere.

As the last Sunday of October approaches each year, more people are taking the opportunity to participate—whether through a simple blessing at home or a larger community event. What began as a sacred tradition in Nepal is now blossoming into a worldwide celebration of loyalty, companionship, and gratitude.

In the spirit of Kukur Tihar,

perhaps it’s time we all take a moment to honor the dogs who make our lives whole.

RECEPTION

Kukur Tihar has now officially taken root in the United States. The first Kukur Tihar – Day of the Dog Celebration was held on October 27, 2024, at James Long Park in Haymarket, Virginia. The event drew families, pet lovers, and community leaders in a colorful celebration of dogs, blending cultural tradition with community spirit. Speaking at the event, organizer Jewan Tiwari announced that Kukur Tihar will be celebrated annually on the last Sunday of October in the U.S.—a day dedicated to honoring and uplifting our loyal canine companions.

The next celebration is scheduled for Sunday, October 26, 2025, once again at James Long Park in Haymarket, VA, promising an even larger gathering of dog lovers and supporters. The festival continues to gain traction globally, with similar celebrations now taking place in countries such as Mexico, highlighting its universal message of love, loyalty, and respect for man’s best friend.

Pet Wants: The Fresh Path to Pet Wellness and Franchise Success

In a world where people are increasingly conscious of what they feed their families, it’s no surprise that this awareness is extending to their pets. Enter Pet Wants, a fresh approach to pet nutrition that’s disrupting the traditional pet food supply chain. With a growing franchise network and a loyal customer base, Pet Wants is redefining how pet parents access high-quality, nutrientrich food for their four-legged companions—delivered fresh and local, right to their door. For aspiring entrepreneurs seeking a meaningful and scalable business, Pet Wants offers a unique opportunity to own a brand that taps into one of the most emotionallydriven, recession-resistant industries: pet care. It’s not just about selling pet food—it’s about improving pets’ lives while building a flexible and rewarding business.

A BRAND BUILT ON FRESHNESS AND TRUST

Founded in 2010, Pet Wants began with a simple but revolutionary idea: most pet food sold in stores sits on shelves for months, losing nutritional value. By contrast, Pet Wants makes small-

batch, fresh pet food every 45 days using whole, natural ingredients—no fillers, no animal by-products, and no artificial preservatives. The result is a better, fresher product that supports healthier, happier pets.

From its beginnings in Cincinnati, Ohio, Pet Wants has grown into a national brand, thanks to its franchisefriendly model and a growing awareness among pet owners about the importance of nutrition. As the brand expands across the country, each

location maintains the same commitment to freshness, quality, and local delivery—a formula that resonates strongly with today’s health-conscious, convenience-driven consumers.

A DELIVERY MODEL DESIGNED FOR MODERN LIFESTYLES

Pet Wants franchises offer a delivery-based service that sets them apart from big-box competitors and e-commerce giants. Customers can order online or by phone and receive pet food, treats, supplements,

and grooming products directly to their doorsteps. The subscription model allows franchise owners to build consistent, recurring revenue while delivering exceptional service and personalized care.

“Our clients love knowing they’re feeding their pets something healthy and fresh— and they don’t have to go out of their way to get it,” says a current franchise owner. “We’re not just a pet food store; we’re a local partner in their pets’ wellbeing.”

This high-touch, relationshipbased model builds customer loyalty and makes a Pet Wants franchise a central part of the community it serves.

FRANCHISEES WITH HEART AND HUSTLE

Pet Wants franchisees come from a variety of backgrounds— corporate professionals, educators, pet lovers, and aspiring entrepreneurs. What unites them is a passion for animals and a desire to make a difference. With low overhead, no requirement for a storefront, and a scalable business model, Pet Wants offers a compelling entry point for first-time business owners and seasoned professionals alike.

“Our ideal franchisee is someone who is excited about pets, passionate about wellness, and ready to build real relationships in their community,” says Lara Blume, Vice President of Franchise Development. “We provide the tools and training—they bring the energy and heart.”

In fact, many franchisees start with a mobile or homebased model before expanding into brick-and-mortar retail

locations or even pet wellness centers. This flexibility allows owners to grow at their own pace, test markets, and adapt their offerings based on community needs.

SUPPORT THAT SETS YOU UP FOR SUCCESS

From the outset, Pet Wants franchisees are supported by a dedicated team that offers comprehensive training, marketing support, supply chain coordination, and ongoing coaching. New owners are guided through every step of launching their business— from territory development to operational best practices.

With the backing of franchise industry leader Strategic Franchising Systems, which also supports brands like The Growth Coach and Fresh Coat Painters, Pet Wants franchisees benefit from decades of experience and proven systems.

“The support has been incredible,” says one multi-unit Pet Wants franchisee. “The training prepared me to hit the ground running, and I always have someone to call when I need advice or want to grow.”

TAPPING INTO A $100 BILLION MARKET

Pet care spending in the U.S. continues to soar, surpassing $136 billion in 2024, with pet food and treats accounting for the largest share. As more households prioritize pet health and wellness, demand for premium, fresh food options continues to climb.

Pet Wants sits at the intersection of three major trends: the humanization of pets, demand for health-focused

products, and the convenience of direct-to-consumer delivery. That makes it a franchise concept with staying power and growth potential.

“People will always care about their pets, and as long as that’s true, Pet Wants will be there to meet that need.” - Blume

What Veterans (and other potential business owners) REALLY Want to Know Prior to Purchasing a Business

Transitioning from military service (or civilian career) is a significant life change, and for many veterans I speak with, business ownership represents an exciting potential path forward. Over the past year, I’ve had the privilege of advising more than 100 veterans exploring this possibility. Drawing on my own journey – 11 years in the Navy, 14 as a high-tech executive, and another 14 immersing myself in the franchise world as an owner, franchisor, and broker – my goal is to help each veteran reach a highconfidence decision about whether business ownership is right for them, whether that's a definitive 'yes,' a 'no,' or 'maybe later'. Through these conversations, certain core questions and concerns consistently emerge.

My initial consultations are fundamentally about getting to know the individual – their background, goals, ambitions, and, most importantly, their 'why' for considering business ownership. This isn't a sales pitch; it's a twoway conversation aimed at

VETERANS WANT CONTROL, THE OPPORTUNITY TO BUILD 'THEIR OWN THING.'

providing information and acting as a sounding board.

One of the first things veterans seek clarity on is the true nature of the investment. There can be skepticism, sometimes fueled by online scams, about whether "purchasing a business" means buying the actual operating entity or just paying for an option to buy. I clarify that we're discussing buying the franchise itself. Veterans want a realistic understanding of the financial commitment. They ask about upfront costs, but also about financing options like SBA loans or leveraging their 401k. I often recommend an introductory call with a finance professional to outline these possibilities, preferring to refer an expert that has up to the minute access to the most current information! While investment levels vary greatly, I emphasize that there are many viable options under

$150,000, even under $100,000, typically requiring a 20-30% down payment. They express concerns about ongoing costs – royalty fees, inventory, and simply managing cash flow in the early stages. Equally critical is understanding the process of selecting and researching potential businesses. Veterans are curious about the range of businesses I represent (around 350) and how they can explore options beyond my initial recommendations. I encourage them to use resources like the International Franchise Association (IFA) website (ifa.org) for broader browsing, advising against direct contact initially. I explain that the real insights come not just from marketing materials or even the extensive Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD), but from talking to existing franchise owners. This is where they can gauge the day-today realities and whether the franchisor delivers on their promises. This research phase is iterative and requires a time commitment, often several weeks or months.

A powerful driving force I frequently ask about is the veteran's 'why'. Common themes include being tired of bureaucracy, ineffective leadership, and workplace politics. Many want control, the opportunity to build "their own thing," and a desire for more freedom and flexibility, even if it means being tightly bound to the business initially.

For some, it's about building a morally just organization, focusing on their team, and creating a superior work environment, carrying forward the values learned in service. My own 'why' evolved from wanting to work for myself and my family after an unexpected job loss to finding fulfillment in mentoring and helping others in transition.

Veterans also wrestle with realism regarding income expectations, particularly in the first few years. I assess if their income targets are feasible for a startup. Expecting a large income from day one is often unrealistic without significant initial capital. Some are open to

lower initial income, aiming to cover essentials and build over time, perhaps by combining the business with other parttime work.

Finding a business that aligns with their skills, experience, and values is paramount.

Veterans consider how their military leadership, technical background, or comfort level with working with people or in sales might fit different models. While some are hesitant about B2B sales, they recognize the parallels with leadership and influence they exercised in uniform. I look for opportunities that leverage their strengths, like structure and team building. Value alignment is also key; some brands emphasize culture and integrity, which resonates strongly.

Finally, veterans want to understand the risks involved and how the franchise model helps mitigate them. While no business ownership is risk-free, the franchise path provides a proven plan and support system. Talking to

existing franchisees is the most effective way to understand the realities and challenges firsthand. For those with riskaverse family members, the thorough research process is crucial for building confidence and achieving alignment.

In essence, the veterans I work with seek clarity, transparency, and realistic expectations about purchasing a business. They value objective information, prioritize insights from those who are already doing it, and are driven by a desire for autonomy, purpose, and a better professional environment. My role is to serve as a knowledgeable guide and resource, helping them explore these critical areas to make a confident and informed decision about their future.

Party Animals Fuel Pet Franchise Growth

In today's pet-loving society, the line between human and animal family members continues to blur. Americans spent over $123.6 billion on their pets in 2021 and the numbers are climbing, reflecting a cultural shift that's fueling a boom in pet services—especially those that embrace fun, celebration and wellness. With approximately 70% of U.S. households owning a pet, the demand for high-quality, personalized pet services is at an all-time high. Pet owners seek more than basic care—they desire experiences that reflect the deep bond they share with their animals. This has led to businesses that offer essential services and wellness-focused experiences for pets.

PETS AS FAMILY: A MARKET THAT KEEPS GROWING

Franchises like Pet Wants are capitalizing on this trend, offering investors a scalable model that caters to pet parents

eager to pamper their furry companions. Founded in 2010, Pet Wants has revolutionized pet nutrition by delivering smallbatch, nutrient-rich pet food directly to consumers' homes. By 2023, the franchise expanded to over 150 territories, adding 24 new locations in that year alone. The brand's commitment to quality has resonated with pet owners, leading to double-digit same-store sales growth across its system in 2023.

Pet Wants offers a full-service approach to pet care, providing grooming and supplies along with the signature nutritional services. With a moderate franchise fee and estimated initial investments range, the brand appeals to entrepreneurial investors seeking a comprehensive pet service model.

PET WANTS DELIVERS WITH A PERSONAL TOUCH

Kelly Johnson's journey with Pet Wants Fort Myers East exemplifies the personally transformative potential of the pet franchise industry. After dedicating years to a demanding career in correctional institutions, Johnson sought a professional path that would better align with her passion for animals and desire for work-life balance. Upon discovering Pet Wants,

she immersed herself in learning the business model and nutritional philosophy that sets the brand apart. Today, Johnson thrives as a franchise owner, building relationships within her community while educating pet parents about fresh, smallbatch nutrition. "It's a fun way to make a living," Johnson often shares, adding with a laugh, "Of course, I would have done anything to get out of prison."

Pet Wants' scalable model allows franchisees to start with a mobile delivery service and expand into retail stores and grooming centers. This flexibility, combined with a focus on pet health, positions Pet Wants as a compelling opportunity for investors

passionate about animals and community engagement.

Johnson says the mobile aspect of the franchise allows her to showcase her business at area food truck events and open-air neighborhood fairs that have become a source of recreation as well as revenue. “We have a good time,” Johnson said. “One of my best promoters is a 10-year-old boy who comes every time I’m in his neighborhood and he rounds up everyone with his enthusiasm; it’s just precious.”

COMPREHENSIVE TRAINING AND CARE

Behind all the warm fuzzy events is a very well-organized platform to help franchisees get up and running, stay afloat and grow, Johnson said her success story demonstrates how Pet Wants' comprehensive training program enables entrepreneurs from diverse professional backgrounds to build rewarding businesses centered around their love for animals. "I didn't know anything about running a business like this and they taught me everything," she remembered fondly. "I just had to keep showing up and followed the directions."

COMMUNITY EVENTS

EXPAND PAWPRINT

Party-themed and holiday events, such as the recent Mothers' Day event at Johnson's store where pet owners could browse and make bandanas and jewelry with their furry children while sampling homemade baked goods for both species, present a compelling marketing opportunity. Community events not only spread the brand's message of catering to pet owners' needs, driving clients to her store, the photos and shared social media exposure saves her time and marketing dollars, Johnson said. Her strategy plays well in a recession-resistant sector characterized by consistent demand. As pet ownership continues to rise, investing in community outreach aligns with current consumer trends and offers potential for sustainable returns.

PET-CENTRIC INVESTMENT INCENTIVES

The success of franchises like Pet Wants underscores a broader trend: pet owners are hungry for services that enhance their pets' quality of

life. For investors, these franchises offer:

• Emotional Engagement: Businesses that cater to the deep bond between pets and owners create loyal customer bases.

• Scalable Models: Flexible franchise structures allow for growth and adaptation to market demands.

• Market Resilience: The pet industry has shown consistent growth, even during economic downturns, making it a stable investment.

As the trend of treating pets like family continues to grow, franchises that embrace this philosophy are well-positioned for sustained success. Investors seeking opportunities that combine profitability with purpose will find the Pet Wants franchise a rewarding avenue to explore.

Former College Teammates Join Pillar

To Post Home Inspectors™

William Gray and Matt Bott, longtime friends and former college football teammates, used their combined 45+ years of expertise in finance, real estate, and business leadership to bring the No. 1 Home Inspection brand to Austin, Texas.

The Valor Team, as they are aptly named, serves Austin and surrounding counties. Their services go beyond standard inspections, incorporating digital tools, pre-listing assessments, and virtual consultations to meet the demands of a fast-moving market. With an aging housing inventory and a surge of new residents, William and Matt see an opportunity to elevate expectations—delivering detailed, agent-friendly reports with the professionalism of their finance backgrounds.

William’s 15 years as a mortgage loan officer gave him firsthand insight into the pain points of real estate transactions. He knows how to deliver thorough, timely reports that keep deals moving without unnecessary stress. His approach balances honesty with diplomacy,

ensuring clients feel informed while agents appreciate his collaborative mindset. For William, joining Pillar To Post was a natural next step, a chance to own a business alongside Matt, a trusted friend and proven entrepreneur. Matt brings three decades of executive experience in financial services, including leadership roles as a President and Managing Director. A strategic thinker with a competitive edge, he’s leveraging his business acumen to build a high-end inspection firm that prioritizes seamless service and techenabled efficiency. Though based near Denver, Matt’s frequent trips to Austin and his family’s ties to the city made it the ideal market for this venture. Together, he and William are combining their strengths to create a differentiated experience—one that caters to top-tier agents, investors, and discerning homeowners.

Pillar To Post Home Inspectors ranks exceedingly high in all trade publications due to its overhaul of all technologies that began right before COVID-19 struck. Due to

that crisis all the technologies were rushed to market such as contactless home inspections, necessary for the time. The Ultimate Home Inspection™ includes a variety of services in new reports that not only show exactly where an item might need to be fixed but will then show the customer the vendors in the area who might be able to do the job. A professional evaluation both inside and outside the home is at the core of Pillar To Post Home Inspectors’ service. Pillar To Post Home Inspectors input data and digital photos into a computerized report.

“We love being part of a proven system, “Said Matt, “and are excited to grow The Valor Team and work under the brand of Pillar To Post.”

From Rescue to Retail

How Moose and Pet Supplies Plus Transformed My Life—and Could Transform Yours Too

Istill remember the day I met Moose. He was a scrappy, uncertain mini doodle mix, barely 1 year old, with eyes that held stories of hardship. Rescued from a shelter, Moose had been bounced around, never quite finding a place to call home.

Bringing Moose into my life wasn't just about adopting a dog; it was about embracing a journey of trust, discipline, and transformation. The early days were challenging—Moose was wary, untrained, and had serious trust issues. But with patience, consistency, and a lot of love, he began to change. He learned to sit, stay, and even offer a paw. More importantly, he learned to trust.

This journey with Moose mirrored another transformation in my life: my venture into the world of franchising with brands like Pet Supplies Plus.

DISCOVERING PET SUPPLIES PLUS

As Moose settled into his new life, I found myself frequenting Pet Suppl stores. The stores weren’t just a place to buy dog food; it was a community hub for pet lovers. The staff knew Moose by name, offered him treats, and celebrated his milestones with me. The experience was so positive that

I began to delve deeper into the category that is pet care.

Pet Supplies Plus stood out to me in the pet retail industry. With a neighborhood-centric approach, they combined the benefits of a national brand with the charm of a local pet store. Their commitment to community engagement, quality products, and exceptional customer service resonated with me.

And while you can order dog toys and food online - you can

do the same for your groceries, but do you? A lot of people still prefer to shop in person and for someone as special as a family pet, you’re only going to want the best.

FROM CUSTOMER TO CONSULTANT

My positive experiences led me to explore franchising opportunities for my clients with Pet Supplies Plus. I discovered that the brand offered a robust support system for franchisees, including training, marketing assistance, and operational guidance. The more I learned, the more I realized this was a venture I wanted to be part of—not just as a customer, but as a consultant helping others embark on their own franchising journeys. Today, as a franchise consultant for Pet Supplies Plus, as well as other large national brands, I guide aspiring entrepreneurs through the process of owning their own store. I share insights, provide resources, and offer support every step of the way. My goal is to

help others experience the fulfillment that comes from combining a passion for pets with a rewarding business opportunity.

WHY PET SUPPLIES PLUS?

• Community Focus: Stores are designed to be integral parts of their neighborhoods, fostering relationships with customers and their pets.

• Comprehensive Support: Franchisees receive extensive training and ongoing assistance to ensure their success.

• Growing Industry: The pet industry continues to thrive, with pet ownership at an alltime high and consumers seeking quality products and services.

• Proven Model: With hundreds of locations nationwide, Pet Supplies Plus has a track record of success and a loyal customer base.

JOIN THE JOURNEY

Moose's transformation from a hesitant rescue to a confident companion is a testament to

the power of patience, love, and the right environment. Similarly, entering the world of franchising can be a transformative experience when you have the right guidance and support. If you're passionate about pets and looking for a fulfilling business opportunity, consider joining the Pet Supplies Plus family. But before you do, let's embark on this journey together—discovering the right brand to partner with is a large endeavor and we have helped over 1500 people last year alone find that perfect fit.

Paws and Profits: Why Pet Franchises Are a Smart Investment in 2025

The pet industry is booming—and it’s not slowing down anytime soon. As of 2025, American pet owners are projected to spend over $150 billion on their furry companions, making the sector one of the most resilient and emotionally driven markets in the franchise world. From grooming and boarding to pet food delivery and dog training, pet-related franchises are seeing record growth, and savvy entrepreneurs are taking notice.

A RECESSION-RESISTANT SECTOR

One of the most compelling reasons investors are flocking to pet franchises is the industry’s consistent performance—even in tough economic times. Pet spending has proven to be largely recession-resistant. People may cut back on personal luxuries, but rarely on their pets. This unwavering consumer loyalty makes pet franchises a lowrisk, high-reward option for franchisees looking for sustainable growth.

DIVERSE FRANCHISE OPPORTUNITIES

Pet franchises today go well beyond the traditional pet store model. There are four major categories drawing franchisee interest:

1. Grooming & Spa Services: Franchises like Pet Supplies Plus are tapping into the humanization trend, offering spa-like experiences for pets with recurring revenue models.

2. Boarding & Daycare: With more workers returning to hybrid work schedules, services like Dogtopia and Playful Pack Dog Daycare are booming, providing pet daycare and boarding for busy professionals.

3. Mobile Services: Mobile grooming and vet franchises are increasingly in demand, offering convenience and lower overhead costs.

4. Retail & Nutrition: The pet food and treats niche is thriving with premium, organic, and subscription-based services, with concepts like Pet Wants leading the way.

THE POWER OF EMOTIONAL BRANDING

Pet franchises benefit from a unique branding advantage— emotion. Pet ownership is an emotional experience, and franchises that build trust with pet parents enjoy long-term customer loyalty. This emotional connection translates into strong wordof-mouth marketing, high retention rates, and local community support.

WHAT FRANCHISEES SHOULD KNOW

Entering the pet industry requires a genuine passion for animals, but success also depends on understanding the business fundamentals. Prospective franchisees should:

• Look for franchise systems with proven support and scalable infrastructure.

• Evaluate training programs and territory protections.

• Consider demand in their local area and alignment with consumer trends, such as eco-friendly products or holistic pet care.

In 2025, pet franchises are not just a passion project— they’re a smart, scalable business investment. With recurring revenue models, emotional branding power, and a loyal consumer base, the pet industry offers fertile ground for franchise growth. For those ready to make tails

wag—and profits rise—this is the moment to get in on the action.

HEART HEART

As we reflect on the journey of Resting Rainbow, we are filled with heartfelt gratitude. What began as a deeply personal response to the loss of a beloved pet has grown into a national movement—thanks entirely to the compassionate, dedicated people who make up our franchise family.

RESTING RAINBOW STORIES FROM OUR

FRANCHISE FAMILY

Each franchisee brings not just professionalism, but genuine empathy to their communities. From Alabama to Texas, New Jersey to Illinois, we’ve watched as Resting Rainbow locations become sanctuaries of healing, comfort, and love. To witness our mission carried forward with such heart has been humbling.

Franchising has given us the privilege of working alongside incredible individuals who treat this work not just as a business, but as a calling. Their commitment to honoring pets as true family members is what makes Resting Rainbow special.

To every franchisee, past, present, and future—thank you. Your work changes lives. You offer comfort during the hardest goodbyes. And you remind the world that love for our pets is deep, enduring, and deserving of dignity.

Resting Rainbow began with a simple idea: to honor the deep, unconditional love we have for our pets with dignity, compassion, and respect—even in their final moments. What started as one family's mission to create a more humane, meaningful way to say goodbye has now become a nationwide movement, thanks to the extraordinary people who

carry the vision forward in their communities.

Each Resting Rainbow franchisee is more than a business owner—they are a compassionate caretaker, a listener, and often, a shoulder to cry on. They are individuals who believe that pets are family, and they bring that belief to life in their daily work. Their decision to join Resting Rainbow was much more than to create a profitable large business, it is to be part of the community and to help those in need when beloved pets pass. Here are a few of the heartfelt stories of the men and women who make up the Resting Rainbow family.

Will & Bobbie-Ann Thames – Birmingham, AL

Will and Bobbie-Ann Thames have always shared a deep love for animals, raising everything from rescue dogs to chickens on their small Alabama property. When they discovered Resting Rainbow, it felt like a calling. Now, they provide comfort and closure to other families in Birmingham, helping them celebrate the lives of the pets they love.

Luis & Meylen Trujillo – Orlando, FL

Luis and Meylen are lifelong animal lovers who turned their passion into purpose. Just like many families out there, our pets are our beloved family members. We love them and can't picture our lives without them. Our journey started a few years back when we lost our twoyear old poodle Lucy due to complications related to Addison’s disease. That tough heartbreaking experience showed us how much our community needed proper pet memorial services. Lucy’s memory fuels our passion, and we are thankful for the opportunity to collaborate with Joseph Castranova, CEO of Resting Rainbow Franchise to bring our exceptional service facility to Winter garden and all of greater Orlando. Our mission? We want to be the go-to, compassionate and trustworthy pet memorial, funeral, and cremation service provider in Greater Orlando. We’re here to offer loving care and respect for your pets during a difficult time of loss, aiming to be a comforting presence and a beacon of light in your moment of darkness.

Jason & Shayne Solano –Sarasota, FL

Jason and Shayne’s love for animals drew them towards the Resting Rainbow franchise. Jason has lost several pets and really wanted to make the experience for other pet owners a more compassionate one. Resting Rainbow is a passion project for the Solano family. They love helping others and bringing closure and healing to families going through this unthinkable time. With their warm personalities and unwavering empathy, they have created a safe space for saying goodbye.

Kyle & Gina Baker – South Tampa / Brandon, FL

Kyle and Gina Baker have always cherished their relationships with the pets who have joined their family. As their beautiful puggle, Harley, can confirm, pets bring so much happiness, healing powers, and comfort to a home. In their passing, their unconditional love should be celebrated and remembered for a lifetime. The Bakers joined Resting Rainbow knowing its mission of compassion, dignity, and integrity would give families the opportunity to properly mourn the pets who have impacted their lives, and simultaneously, allow families to begin healing. In South Tampa and Brandon, Kyle and Gina are known for their unwavering commitment to providing professional and individualized treatment to all pets and their families.

Ben & Heidi Archier – North Atlanta, GA

Ben and Heidi Archer’s deep love for animals inspired them to become franchisees of Resting Rainbow. With a home full of cherished pets, they understand the deep bond between people and their animal companions. Having experienced the loss of two beloved dogs in the recent past (pictured below), partnering with Resting Rainbow became a more and more obvious choice. Their compassion, empathy, and experience drive their commitment to helping others honor and remember their family pets with care and dignity.

Grant Carlson – North Chicago, IL

Grant grew up in a dog-obsessed family. Every year during their annual family photo at his lake house, it was always fun to count the number of dogs in the photo, which was typically over a dozen. His family is very dedicated to the mission of rescues and often foster dogs in transition to finding a permanent owner.

When his dog Bridget, a beautiful Boston Terrier, passed away from cancer in 2020, Grant experienced the void that so many pet owners feel. Memorializing her enabled Grant to find closure and start the healing process. He now looks forward to having his Mountain Cur, Nova, frequent his North Chicago Resting Rainbow location to offer emotional support for families grieving the loss of their beloved pets.

Brian Luce – Columbus, OH

Brian retired from the US Air Force in 2015 and had been searching for a meaningful role in his community when a franchise consultant presented the Resting Rainbow franchise opportunity. The loss of his 14 and 15 year old rescues in 2024 solidified his decision to provide compassionate care and a needed service to pet owners in the Columbus area. He has been busy establishing his Columbus location and is excited about this new adventure.

Andy Snelgrove – Houston, TX

Andy is a proud Texan, West Point graduate, military veteran - Apache pilot, and lifelong animal lover. He and his wife, Leslie, are raising their two boys, Sam and Charlie, in Houston. As a multi-brand, multi-unit franchise owner and franchise consultant of nine years, Andy has seen hundreds of pitches—but Resting Rainbow immediately stood out. Drawn to its mission and emotional impact, he quickly invested in the brand. His Houston location combines professionalism with heartfelt compassion, offering a respectful space for pet aftercare rooted in honor, family, and community.

Elana & Richard Slobodien – Philadelphia, PA

Richard and Elana Slobodien, siblings with a shared passion for animals and entrepreneurship, combined their unique professional backgrounds to launch their first pet cremation company within the city limits of Philadelphia. Elana brings expertise in banking and finance, while Richard contributes a background in medicine and surgery. Together, their complementary skills and deep compassion for animals laid the foundation for a business dedicated to serving pet owners throughout the Philadelphia metro area with dignity and care.

Jon Lock & Missy Heinlen –Dallas, TX

Jon has over 10 years of experience as a franchisee, owning multiple units with three major franchise brands. He started his career in finance, bringing a sharp analytical and strategic approach to business. His passion for entrepreneurship led him to franchising, where he has successfully built and managed multiple top-performing locations. Jon is known for his strong leadership, operational skills, and dedication to brand quality.

Missy combines a background in education and marketing to bring fresh energy to the franchise world, joining her brother Jon in Resting Rainbow. She spent over 15 years in education and 5 years in marketing, developing strong skills in communication, leadership, and customer engagement. Missy is focused on creating community-driven businesses that offer great service and lasting impact.

Jason Taylor Austin, TX

Married for 18 years with 2 children and a diverse background that includes DoD contractor and corporate management, I have found that I need to serve others. My lifelong belief in doing good for others will ensure good things happen to you has shown itself to be true over and over This is what set me out to find something outside of corporate and Resting Rainbow is where I felt I could make a significant impact on the communities we serve. Our model is unique in an industry with a huge growth potential that is focused on getting people through a very traumatic experience with compassion. It is more than a business, it is a calling.

Zack Jolly - Austin TX

Marine Corps veteran, retired police officer, proud husband to Ericha (we’ve been married 25 years and she still laughs at my jokes), and dad to six amazing kids: Rajah, Kyra, Cadin, Holly, Hunter, and Trooper. Our household is also managed by two dogs—Gunner, our loyal Lab, and Ollie, a miniature Schnauzer with a big personality. After decades of public service, I wanted to continue making a meaningful impact—and that’s what led me to Resting Rainbow. As the Austin-area franchisee, I’m honored to help families through one of the toughest parts of pet ownership: saying goodbye. I know firsthand how much pets mean to a family (ours basically run the house), and I believe every furry friend deserves a compassionate and dignified farewell.

Thomas Khien – East Dallas, TX

Thomas Khien, came to the U.S. in 1979 as a war refugee from Cambodia. His family settled in California and he attended El Monte High and later earned a finance degree from Cal Poly Pomona. His career took him around the world and upon returning to the U.S.he explored franchising. Inspired by Resting Rainbow’s compassionate mission, Thomas chose to join, believing in both the business and the people behind it. “Losing a pet is never easy, so, when a pet passes, familes need a place to mourn, and Resting Rainbow not only provides a respectful and dignified farewell but also supports families with empathy and care throughout the process. Their commitment to honoring pets with grace and sincerity is truly comforting, making a difficult time just a little bit easier.” says Thomas.

These stories are the heartbeat of Resting Rainbow. Each franchisee brings not only skill, but also soul. Together, they’re creating something extraordinary: a national network of pet lovers helping families say goodbye with love, grace, and dignity. That’s what Resting Rainbow is all about. Embracing Compassion and Opportunity: The Benefits of Becoming a Resting Rainbow Franchisee

For those who share a deep love for animals and are passionate about honoring the profound bond between pet owners and their beloved pets, becoming a Resting Rainbow franchisee presents a unique and personally fulfilling business opportunity. By performing dignified pet cremations and facilitating meaningful pet memorial services, Resting Rainbow franchisees help provide comfort to and compassionate closure for grieving pet owners. Investing in a Resting Rainbow franchise is not only a business decision, in many ways it’s a calling.

THE GROWING PET MEMORIAL INDUSTRY

The pet industry in the United States is booming, with pet ownership reaching all-time highs. According to the American Pet Products Association (APPA), nearly 70% of U.S. households own a pet, amounting to more than 90 million dogs and 94 million cats. With pets considered family members by the majority of pet owners, the pet memorial and cremation sector is experiencing rapid growth and is projected to

surpass $1 billion in revenue by 2027 with families seeking to memorialize their pets in ways that mirror the love and respect shown to human family members. This cultural shift has created a robust market for the services Resting Rainbow offers.

WHY RESTING RAINBOW?

Resting Rainbow stands out in the pet memorial space for its commitment to integrity, compassion, and exceptional service. As a franchisee, you

become part of a brand that truly understands and respects the emotional impact of losing a beloved pet. A BUSINESS WITH HEART AND PURPOSE

For me, the decision to pursue a Resting Rainbow franchise was deeply personal. My love for animals is not just a hobby, it has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. Growing up, my family was blessed with a multitude of pets: dogs, cats, birds, rabbits… each one leaving a lasting imprint on our hearts. Today my own dog, Nova (a mountain cur), continues to bring joy and companionship to my life. I understand firsthand the deep bond that forms between families and their pets, and I know how heartbreaking it is to say goodbye. Resting Rainbow gives me the opportunity to turn this understanding into the compassionate care of being there for grieving pet owners.

FINANCIAL OPPORTUNITY MEETS PERSONAL FULFILLMENT

The financial potential of a Resting Rainbow franchise is immense, supported by strong

market growth statistics and the increasing demand of its service offerings. Beyond the numbers, each service provided is a chance to honor the bond between pet owners and their pets in ways that reflect the love and loyalty shared over a lifetime. Being a Resting Rainbow franchisee allows me to serve my community by building a legacy of love and respect for pets and their families.

JOIN THE RESTING RAINBOW FAMILY

With the comprehensive Resting Rainbow franchise support, a growing market sector, and the chance to make a real difference, I couldn’t pass up the exciting opportunities that came with becoming a Resting Rainbow franchisee. So if you also share a love for animals and want to build a career that is both meaningful and financially rewarding, joining the Resting Rainbow family might also be the right move for you.

How Fluffy Pet Wash is Redefining Mobile Pet Grooming Franchises Across America

In the booming world of pet services, Fluffy Pet Wash has emerged as a true gamechanger. Founded by Cristian Arroyo Colon — a U.S. Air Force veteran, former IBM Engineer, and passionate entrepreneur — Fluffy Pet Wash combines military-grade operational excellence, modern technology, and a heartfelt love for pets into a franchise model built for the future. At its core, Fluffy Pet Wash delivers premium, stress-free mobile grooming right to

the client’s doorstep. Each professionally wrapped van is built for safety, comfort, and efficiency, offering a spa-quality experience that prioritizes both pets and their people. With a strong emphasis on consistency, quality, and customer care, Fluffy Pet Wash is becoming the go-to brand for busy pet owners nationwide.

What sets Fluffy Pet Wash apart isn’t just its quality — it’s the business model behind it. The system

is engineered for speed, simplicity, and profitability, allowing franchisees to serve a wide range of breeds while maintaining high throughput and client satisfaction. This balanced, demand-driven

approach allows owners to scale effectively while keeping operations lean.

The franchise is designed to support both owneroperators and semi-absentee investors, giving flexibility to entrepreneurs at all stages of life. Whether you’re hands-on or hiring a team, the system is optimized to reduce overhead, maximize efficiency, and generate recurring revenue. There are no retail leases, no large staff requirements, and no brick-and-mortar headaches — just a clean, scalable business you can grow on your terms.

One of Fluffy’s most powerful advantages is its in-house marketing and SEO operation. Unlike most franchise brands that outsource their advertising,

Fluffy runs all digital marketing, lead generation, and local advertising internally. Every territory is supported by custom Google Ads campaigns, search engine optimization, and highconverting landing pages that are designed, executed, and monitored by Fluffy’s internal team. This guarantees brand consistency, faster results, and stronger ROI for every franchise partner.

Technology is another cornerstone of the Fluffy model. From streamlined online booking to automated scheduling and follow-ups, the brand uses modern systems to simplify operations and enhance the customer experience. These tools not only save time but also allow franchisees to manage their business with clarity and confidence — even across multiple vans or territories.

Pet care is one of the fastest-growing sectors in the country, and demand for convenient, trustworthy mobile grooming is at an all-time high. Consumers want high-quality service with low friction, and Fluffy delivers exactly that — a polished brand, a high-end experience, and a pet-first philosophy that wins over clients for life.

Already expanding into key markets like Orlando, Fluffy Pet Wash is drawing strong attention from both pet parents and seasoned business professionals. Franchisees benefit from exclusive territories, strong unit economics, and a leadership team dedicated to helping them scale with confidence.

For Cristian Arroyo Colon, this business is more than a company — it’s a mission. Built with military precision, entrepreneurial grit, and genuine heart, Fluffy Pet Wash offers franchisees a business they can be proud of and a path to long-term success in a thriving industry.

With a bold brand, full inhouse marketing, operational simplicity, and flexible ownership models, Fluffy Pet Wash offers a rare chance to build a premium business — one that delivers happiness, freedom, and long-term value, one wagging tail at a time.

The Glass Guru: Creating Pet-Friendly Views & Bright Spaces

Pets love to look outside, bask in natural light, and feel connected to their surroundings. Whether it’s a dog eagerly watching for their owner’s return, a cat lounging in the sun, or a bird chirping at passing wildlife, clear, wellmaintained windows play a crucial role in a pet-friendly home.

Unfortunately, foggy, scratched, or cracked windows can obstruct views, reduce natural light, and even pose a safety hazard for pets. The Glass Guru specializes in window restoration, repair, and replacement, ensuring that pets (and their owners) can enjoy clear, bright, and beautiful spaces.

WHY PET OWNERS NEED HIGH-QUALITY WINDOWS

A pet’s environment has a direct impact on their happiness, behavior, and overall well-being. Good windows can:

• Provide mental stimulation – Pets love watching the outside world, whether it’s passing cars, squirrels, or

their owner coming home.

• Increase natural sunlight – Sun exposure helps regulate circadian rhythms, supporting better sleep and relaxation for pets.

• Improve ventilation and air quality – Well-maintained windows allow for fresh air circulation, reducing pet odors and keeping the home feeling fresh.

Old or damaged windows can cause temperature inconsistencies, leading to hot or cold spots that make pets uncomfortable. Upgrading to energy-efficient glass helps regulate indoor temperatures, keeping pets cozy year-round.

FRANCHISING WITH THE GLASS GURU

With more homeowners prioritizing pet-friendly living spaces, The Glass Guru offers franchisees a lucrative opportunity to serve this growing market. Franchise benefits include:

• Diverse revenue streams, from glass restoration to window replacement.

• Low startup costs and high demand, especially in petfriendly neighborhoods.

• Comprehensive training and support, making it easy for franchisees to succeed.

As the pet industry continues to expand, The Glass Guru franchisees can cater to pet owners looking for highquality home upgrades that improve both their view and their pet’s quality of life.

Better Windows, Happier Pets Pets thrive in bright, open

environments where they can see the world, enjoy the sunshine, and feel connected to nature. The Glass Guru ensures that every petfriendly home remains well-lit, well-ventilated, and visually stunning.

From Storage Unit to Success: How Two Brothers Built The Taco Spot and Achieved the American Dream

The story of The Taco Spot is one that reflects the very heart of the American Dream: two brothers, humble beginnings, relentless hard work, and a willingness to take risks in the face of overwhelming challenges. Jorge and Jesus Ruiz, the co-founders of The Taco Spot, embody what is possible in America, a land where opportunity meets perseverance and where diverse cultures come together to celebrate food, family, and ambition.

In 2020, the world was shutting down. Small businesses everywhere were closing their doors, but in a repurposed storage unit in Arizona, Jorge and Jesus were cooking up something extraordinary. What started as a small taco stand, launched just one month before COVID-19 hit, would grow into

a thriving enterprise—one that now has sights set on 1,000 locations in 10 years and is inspiring entrepreneurs across the country.

HUMBLE BEGINNINGS AND UNCERTAIN TIMES

Before the idea of The Taco Spot was born, Jorge and Jesus were working hard in their respective trades. Jorge was a truck driver, spending long days on the road to provide for his family, while Jesus was running his barbershop next to what would become their first taco stand. Both brothers shared a love for authentic Mexican food and a strong work ethic instilled in them by their family.

In February 2020, they pooled their resources to open a small taco stand in a storage unit. The timing could not have been worse. As COVID-19 gripped the nation, restaurants and businesses everywhere were forced to close or drastically cut back operations. Foot traffic dried up, and customers stayed home.

With no experience in marketing and little understanding of how to grow a business, Jorge and Jesus faced the very real possibility of losing everything. But in

America, creativity and grit often carve a path where others see a dead end.

THE TURNING POINT: RISK AND REWARD

The turning point came when a local social media influencer discovered their tacos and fell in love. Eager to help, the influencer offered to promote The Taco Spot online in exchange for food. Around the same time, a Google SEO specialist approached them with a similar offer: ads for tacos. Desperate for visibility, Jorge and Jesus agreed to these unconventional arrangements.

The results were almost immediate. Word of The Taco Spot spread across social media, and people started showing up. But it wasn’t enough to save their struggling business—at least not yet. The brothers realized they needed to invest in marketing in a bigger way.

With no extra funds to spare, they made a bold decision: stop making payments on Jorge’s pickup truck and use the money to pay for ads instead. It was a gamble that many would have been too afraid to take. Three months later, the truck was repossessed, but by then, the lines were already forming

around the building. The ads worked. Social media buzzed with praise for The Taco Spot, and customers couldn’t get enough of their handmade tortillas, perfectly seasoned meats, and flavorful birria tacos. Jorge and Jesus knew they were onto something special.

FROM SURVIVAL TO EXPANSION

What began as survival turned into opportunity. With demand skyrocketing, the brothers opened their next location in Tempe, followed shortly after by another in Mesa. Each new store drew more fans, and soon, customers weren’t just craving tacos—they were asking how they could own their own Taco Spot

Recognizing the potential for growth, Jorge and Jesus made another bold move: they began franchising. In 2023, the first agreements were signed for Surprise, AZ, and East Mesa, AZ. What once seemed like an impossible dream was now becoming a scalable, thriving business model.

A VISION FOR 1,000 LOCATIONS

Jorge and Jesus have a vision that is nothing short of extraordinary: 1,000 Taco Spot locations within 10 years While it sounds ambitious, the momentum speaks for itself. Texas signed a deal for 111 stores, and Missouri and surrounding states recently signed on for an impressive 188 locations

Interest continues to grow as entrepreneurs across the country recognize the opportunity to join a brand that blends incredible food, cultural authenticity, and a compelling story of hard work and success.

A STORY OF OPPORTUNITY AND INCLUSION

The Ruiz brothers’ journey represents something bigger than business success—it’s a story about the opportunities America offers to those willing to work for it. The Taco Spot reflects the melting pot of cultures that defines the United States, where diversity is celebrated, and great work and great food are eagerly embraced.

At its core, The Taco Spot is about more than just tacos. Each dish—from the rich, slow-cooked birria tacos to the freshly pressed tortillas— tells a story of tradition, family, and pride. It’s food that brings people together, no matter their background, in a shared love for bold flavors and simple, authentic craftsmanship.

INSPIRATION FOR ENTREPRENEURS EVERYWHERE

Jorge and Jesus Ruiz prove that success doesn’t require perfection—it requires perseverance. They didn’t start out with experience in business, marketing, or franchising. What they had was a willingness to take risks, a belief in their product, and the determination to keep going, even when the odds

were against them. Their story is a powerful reminder that the American Dream is alive and well. For those willing to work hard, take chances, and adapt, this country still offers the opportunity to build something extraordinary from nothing.

THE SKY’S THE LIMIT

Today, The Taco Spot stands as a symbol of what’s possible. From a small storage unit to a multi-state franchise phenomenon, Jorge and Jesus Ruiz have shown that dreams don’t have to stay dreams. With hard work, resilience, and a little help from unexpected places, they can become reality.

As they continue to expand across the country, one thing is certain: The Taco Spot isn’t just a success story—it’s an invitation. It’s a call to dreamers, workers, and believers everywhere to embrace the opportunities around them and to build something meaningful, one step at a time.

For the Ruiz brothers, the sky truly is the limit. And for taco lovers and aspiring business owners alike, The Taco Spot is proof that in America, anything is possible.

The Value of Outsourcing Bookkeeping & Payroll Services for a Franchise

The Value of Outsourcing Bookkeeping & Payroll Services for a Franchise

Buying a franchise is a major investment for both the buyer and the franchisor. The new franchisee is investing a substantial chunk of money, whether it comes from excess cash or their life savings, they’re making a significant

commitment to the franchisor and its brand.

Everyone wants new owners to succeed, and the first year in business is the most critical hurdle to make that happen. A franchisor once told me that he tells new owners they must do four things right, right out of the box: First they need to “hire the right people”, then they need to

“sell-sell-sell” to get up and running successfully in that challenging first year. Makes sense!

However, what if that new owner asks what they should handle bookkeeping and payroll? These are “nonrevenue generating” tasks that most owners aren’t well versed in and shouldn’t waste their limited time, talent, and

resources in addressing.

Many franchisors will simply reply, “find someone to handle it for you”, what we call the “Uncle Bob” method. A recent trend in franchise bookkeeping is for franchisors to mandate new owners to use a specified bookkeeping

firm and a payroll provider for the first 12 months. This creates two major benefits: First, the new owner can stay focused on growing the business while having their monthly results delivered to them in an affordable and timely manner, so they will know how well they are performing. The second benefit is to the franchisor who also wants to see how the franchisee’s performing without having to chase after them each month for the results.

Using a preset Chart-ofAccounts, all the franchisees’

reports will be consistent. With this accumulated data, a bookkeeping firm like BookWerks™ can run various customized reports for the franchisor so they can measure the average overall performance of their franchisees.

Knowing average costs of such expenses as occupancy, labor, advertising etc. helps a franchisor understand expenditures levels new owners should be targeting. We know the first year is critical to the long-term success of the franchisee. Under a franchise wide bookkeeping program, the franchisor can receive monthly reports to study specific numbers such as royalties owed, franchise fees and other critical data.

After the initial training and launch of the new franchise, mandating a specified bookkeeping firm like BookWerks™ provides a win-win for both the franchisor and their franchisees.

Ask the RESULTS Guy™: Why Intentional Thinking is the Key to Unlocking Results

If you’ve followed my work for any length of time, you know I believe that every problem is a thinking problem. Whether you're chasing RESULTS Faster!, aiming for bigger wins, or simply seeking a richer, more fulfilling life, the first step is the same—change how you think. In my newest work, Intentional, I explore this idea even deeper. Thinking isn’t just an activity we engage in; it’s the foundation for success in every area of life. I want to walk you through why intentional thinking matters more than ever and how it can fundamentally change your outcomes. Remember: Change your thinking, change your RESULTS

Q: Tony, you say everything starts with thinking. Why is that your foundation? Thinking is the root of everything. Your actions flow from your beliefs, and your beliefs are built on your thinking. If you want different outcomes—better health, greater wealth, or stronger relationships—you must first change how you think.

This isn’t a theory I invented. Earl Nightingale said it best in The Strangest Secret: "We become what we think about."

Over the years, I’ve studied and applied the wisdom found in timeless classics like As a Man Thinketh by James Allen, Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill, and The Magic of Thinking Big by David Schwartz. Across the board, the message is clear: your thoughts shape your reality. If you’re not achieving the results you require at the speed you desire, don’t just work harder. Think differently. New thinking leads to new actions. New actions create

Q: How can intentional thinking be applied practically?

Intentional thinking isn’t about sitting around in deep thought all day. It’s about designing your life and business so that your thinking drives your doing. It means

starting every day with clarity about your purpose and intentionally connecting your actions to that purpose. Most people treat their calendars as simply a list of appointments and obligations. I encourage people to think of their calendar as a "purpose map"—a tool to ensure that every meeting, task, and commitment is aligned with what matters most.

It also means examining your environment and your habits. Are they supporting your goals or sabotaging them? Are you letting old habits guide your day, or are you engineering your environment to reinforce your best thinking? Intentional living demands an audit of both your mindset and your surroundings.

Q: How does this tie into productivity and results? Productivity is not about doing more. It’s about doing what matters most—and doing it faster, smarter, and with more precision. When you think intentionally, you prioritize what drives the biggest impact instead of getting caught up in the noise.

You stop reacting to whatever demands your attention in the moment and start designing your days around the activities that move you closer to your goals.

High Leverage Activities (HLAs) become your nonnegotiables.

Q: You referenced books like Think and Grow Rich. What are some timeless lessons from those works that still apply today? One lesson is that success starts with self-perception. How you see yourself directly impacts what you attempt and what you achieve. Another lesson, this one from Earl Nightingale, is the power of visualization—clearly imagining your goals sets a mental blueprint that your actions can follow.

These authors also teach that obstacles should not be feared but embraced as opportunities. When you encounter a challenge, intentional thinking allows you to approach it with the attitude, "How can we make this work?" instead of immediately listing reasons why it won’t.

Of course, the importance of legacy thinking cannot be ignored. The thoughts you nurture today don’t just impact your current success—they shape the future you are building for yourself and for those you influence.

Thinking is not a casual exercise—it’s the lever that moves your entire life. When you think intentionally, you don’t just hope for success; you engineer it.

If you’re serious about reaching your Next Level, take a hard look at the quality of your thinking. Are your daily thoughts aligned with your goals? Are you strategically designing your life and business(es), or simply reacting to them?

Intentional thinking is the bridge between where you are and where you want to be. Clarity, Focus, and deliberate Execution—fueled by powerful thinking—are what separate the wishers from the winners. It’s not a matter of chance.

The Dumpster, Disrupted:

How BullBag Is Transforming Waste Management Forever through

In an industry not known for innovation, one company is flipping the script. Meet BullBag, the Pompano Beachbased waste management disruptor that’s ditching the steel and redefining the dumpster game with reusable, ultra-durable bags—and it’s poised to take over the U.S. one franchise at a time.

Founded by Paul DiSpazio, a well known entrepreneur with deep roots in the waste industry, BullBag was born from a simple but powerful insight: traditional dumpsters are bulky, expensive, and inefficient. What if you could own a dumpster for life, store it in a closet, and schedule disposal on demand—without paying overweight fees or rental charges?

Enter the BullBag: a patented, reusable dumpster

bag that holds up to 4,500 pounds, stands upright like a metal dumpster, and folds away into a sleeve the size of a couple of golf bags when not in use. With a 10-cubicyard capacity and a lifetime warranty, this isn’t just a product—it’s a paradigm shift.

Of particular importance is disaster remediation where over 100 bullbags (the equivalent of 100 dumpsters) can be put into the back of a standard pickup truck and distributed for rapid and efficient clean up.

"Bullbag identified a significant need in the market for a practical dumpster solution that could be placed where traditional metal dumpsters cannot," says Kyle Bailey of GenDev the company that is bringing them to market through franchising. That insight, and the company’s tenacious execution, have turned BullBag into a recognized brand now operating across 13 states.

WASTE MANAGEMENT, REIMAGINED

At the core of BullBag’s innovation is its customer-first service model. Customers buy their BullBag once—either at

Franchising

major retailers like The Home Depot, through direct mail, or online—and then use it on their own timeline. When it's full, they schedule a pickup. A BullBag "wrangler" arrives, empties the contents using a patented process, and rolls the bag up for future use. No return trips to storage yards. No hidden fees. No wasted time.

This frictionless model is earning BullBag fans across residential, commercial, and industrial markets. Contractors, in particular, love the flexibility:

multiple bags can be placed closer to job sites, saving both time and labor. In regions recovering from natural disasters, where conventional dumpsters are in short supply, BullBag has become an indispensable part of the recovery process.

"With BullBag, we’re always ready," says DiSpazio. "We have an unlimited supply of bags and a scalable system that works in emergencies or everyday remodels."

FROM A GREAT IDEA TO A NATIONAL MOVEMENT

In January 2025, BullBag took the next step: launching franchise opportunities across the United States.

Spearheaded by Vice President Mike Ruotolo, the franchise program gives entrepreneurs a plug-and-play business model that’s already been battletested in diverse markets.

"We have national end-user contracts, big box distribution, and a proven operational framework," says Ruotolo. "Our franchisees don’t need to reinvent the wheel. They can focus on building customer relationships and growing their territories while we

support them with technology, logistics, and training. We researched the market to help us on the franchise side and GenDev stood head and shoulders above everyone we spoke with. We are excited to partner with them to introduce our BullBag franchise concept to the world"

It’s a smart bet. The waste management industry is a $75 billion sector that hasn’t seen meaningful disruption in decades. BullBag offers franchisees a way to stand out, offering not just a more eco-friendly and costeffective solution, but one that consumers actually love using.

WHY BULLBAG IS MORE THAN A BUSINESS

At a time when sustainability matters more than ever, BullBag is quietly setting a new standard for environmental responsibility. By promoting reuse over disposal, the company reduces the carbon footprint associated with traditional waste hauling and metal bin fabrication. Add to that a no-overweight-fee policy and minimal infrastructure

costs, and you have a business that’s as lean as it is green. BullBag’s scalability also makes it future-proof. As municipalities crack down on illegal dumping and outdated waste practices, demand for transparent, efficient, and regulated disposal options is on the rise. BullBag meets that demand while empowering homeowners, contractors, and municipalities with a tool that’s accessible and smart.

THE ROAD AHEAD

With momentum building, BullBag is focused on expanding its footprint through franchising, increasing its reach in disaster recovery zones, and continuing to refine its product and logistics technology. The company’s leadership is bullish on its future—and with good reason.

"We’re not just building a company. We’re changing an industry," says DiSpazio.

From its simple premise—a better way to manage waste—BullBag has evolved into a national brand with a mission to simplify, streamline, and elevate the dumpster experience.

In a world where innovation often skips over the less glamorous sectors, BullBag is proving that real disruption can happen anywhere—even in the trash.
