ALARM SYSTEMS Helpful Tips To Prevent Burglaries

Keep any tools that can be used to break into your home, safely locked away in a garage or shed. A shovel can be a perfect tool for intruders. Be sure your garage door is locked. Do not leave your garage door open, even you are at home. Lawn movers, barbecues and bicycles are best stored out of sight, better if they are locked up. Use opaque curtains on garage, basement windows and storage shed windows.

WELLBEING

39

WELLBEING Are you in need of a DETOX? Asking a person that question is almost like an accusation of being a drug addict. Addicts who want to stop abusing have to go through a DETOX, which involves stopping abruptly Cold Tur-key style, or gradually getting off of the toxic stuff. No, I am not referring to that. We are all ex-posed to toxins throughout life and the effect of the accumulated toxins are most noticable as we grow older. What we don´t realize is that the toxins have a lot do do with the aging process and that it is possible to impede that process. Exposure to toxicity in humans or animals can be Acute with harmful effects through a single or short-term exposure. It can be Subchronic and cause effects for more than one year but less than a lifetime or it can be Chronic toxicity that causes harmful effects over an extended period, usually upon repeated or continuous exposure, sometimes lasting for the entire life of the exposed organism. We are not referring only to drugs such as Cannabis, Alcohol or Cocaine. Throughout life we are exposed to other toxic sub-stances. We eat, breath and produce toxins that can be extremely harmful to our bodies. The World Health Organization (WHO) is well aware of the increasing risk of food related illnesses, but so far only around 800 Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals (EDC) have been isolated among many many thousands of new

40

chemicals that we are exposed to. So we breath toxins from car exhausts, we eat toxins from preservatives, pesticides and food colouring. We drink tap water containing chlorine which lower sperm count and which contains led and hampers the repro-ductive capacity in women. We eat genetically modified food that disturb our intestines etc. Through shampoos and make up women are exposed daily to 160-180 different chemicals. Men are exposed to around 80 chemicals that way. Accumulating toxins throughout life we grow older and fatter, faster, and need medicine for life, that contain more toxins. YES, most of us need a DETOX now and then. We need to rinse our kidneys by drinking a sufficient amount of water. We need to cleanse our fatty livers and get rid of the stones and or gall bladders. We need to burn off the belly fat where the body stores toxins

The DIRECTORY February 2016

it can’t handle and we need to be-come more alkaline and lower the amount of Candida yeast fungus in our intestines which is slowly killing us and preparing the foundation for cancer. How to detox then? Start drinking the number of glasses of water which you calculate from your body weight divided by 7. Properly filtered drinking water without chlorine or heavy metals, (Obs: not Osmosis filtered water). Eat more salads and vegetables and drink vegetable smoothies that make your body more alkaline. Do the Dr Hulda Clark liver cleansing and take hot baths each week with 2 kilos of fine sea salt in it. Lower or eliminate your sugar consumption. Sugar is the most common addiction of all addictions. These are some general tips that help a lot. Do you want to know more about what you specifically need then call 722 188 811 or come and see us at Pies y Bienestar on Calle Pintada 73 in Nerja.

SPANISH CUISINE

The origin of Spanish tapa There are a few stories about the origin of Tapa but one popular one is said that the first tapa was a chunk of bread which was placed over a glass to keep the flies out of a drink. Tapa literally means ´cover lid¨. Now tapas is popular and available as appetizers, or snacks, in Spanish cuisine. They may be cold (such as mixed olives and cheese) or hot (such as chopitos, which are battered, fried baby squid). And now tapas have evolved into an entire, sophisticated cuisine. Some typical simple tapas dishes served with bread are: Slices of Mancheo Dish of Olives Prawn Pil Pil Jamon Carne con tomate

USING SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING

WEB WORLD

TO GROW YOUR BUSINESS... “Are you on Facebook? Twitter? Instagram?” Ask people this question today and most people will respond “yes”. Why? Because social media, whilst a relatively new development, is now one of the leading communication tools in the world. Accessible to billions of people and used by millions of people every day, what better way to gain exposure for your business than through social media? It allows you to reach potential customers on both a local and global level.

How can social media benefit your business?

In comparison with traditional marketing methods, social media marketing is inexpensive. Even if you choose paid advertising, it is still relatively low cost on major platforms such as Facebook and Twitter and allows you to directly target your demographic. These days, people take to social media to praise or complain about a product or company. Marketing through social media allows you to respond to comments immediately and on a personal level. Social media platforms allow for you to improve trust and credibility with potential customers.

Do I really need social media marketing?

You don’t always see a tangible return on investment in social media marketing, but having multiple touchpoints can improve sales so you have to market your marketing.

Remember - website content is fire and social media is gasoline. Call Eleanor Makin at Quantum23 to find out more about websites. See ad under Websites

BUSINESS MATTERS

Love your Business

Sometimes, in business, we lose ourselves to the hum of working day after day. It can be hard to get excited when, what should be the joy of operating your business gets turned into just ‘another day at the office’. Whether your numbers are up or down, your business is going through growing pains or feeling the sting of an economy that still hasn’t bounced back, it’s important to hold on to the things that influenced your decision to run your own business.

Spark the romance again Our relationship with our work can be described as rocky at best. There are so many peaks and troughs, it can be emotionally draining. However, to be not only successful, but also be fulfilled in the work we do, it is important that we keep the romance going. •Remember how it felt the first time you made that payment for doing something you’re passionate about? •Or what about the butterflies you felt when approaching your first clients, or your first customer walked through the door? Seeing how far you’ve come can be a remarkable feeling. Some things have become easier, more fluid while others still seem to trip you up. Maybe you’re still not the best at handling criticism or perhaps paying business bills still makes you sweat at the end of the month. It sounds cheesy, but focusing on the positives in your life can be a big step towards getting yourself out of a rut. An attitude of gratitude How grateful are you for your job? Whether you own your own business or work for someone else, we can forget to be thankful for what and who we have around us. Even when I don’t feel like 46

The DIRECTORY February 2016

I am in the most “giving” mood, I try to say thank you to the people around me who work to make my life easier. I have come to find that the more I say “thank you,” the more I mean it. Those people who receive a thank you are likely to pay it forward to their co-workers and the other people in their lives who may need a pat on the back. Do you wake up in the morning with a mindset that says, “Today, I will be grateful.” Believe it or not, this is a choice that you can make. Only you can dictate how you spend your day. And why would you want to waste it feeling unsatisfied and frustrated? Talk about a poor use of energy. Anchor yourself Sure, life as a small business owner, can get a bit crazy both in a good or bad way. But, making sure that your heart is anchored to the right things is the only way you can survive the storms that life may throw at you. What matters to you most? Who matters to you? Keep these things and especially these people close to you. Because, no matter how far off course you feel like you’ve got over the years, you will always have them to ‘pull you up & put you back on the right track’. Currency News Although the oil markets are reeling as a result of Iran s re-entry into the market place & it´s decision to produce 500,000 barrels a day, spare a thought for your local furniture maker as the head of Ikea announces the western world has all the home furnishings it can handle! Sterlings recent falls are largely due to the Bank of England deciding to keep interest rates on hold. This decision is based a perceived weakening of growth expectations in the UK for the last quarter of 2015, coupled with economic data out of China, showing that growth for 2015 was ONLY 6.9%! A growth rate any western economy would love to achieve. In China, this drop in growth has led to factories closing and unemployment rising. Despite its massive exports, China relies on its domestic market for longterm economic stability.

Legal Matters

GOOD NEWS – TAX REDUCTIONS FOR NON RESIDENT PROPERTY OWNERS We are very pleased to report a reduction in three important taxes for non-resident property owners in Spain. In moves to encourage property purchases and ownership the Spanish government has announced that from 1st January 2016 European citizens as well as those from Norway and Iceland will pay 19.50% instead of 24.75% for their non-resident property taxes. This will apply to the period from January to December 2015 with the declaration made in 2016 and is a reduction of 5.25%. Capital Gains tax is also to be reduced. For sales made after 1st January 2016 CGT will be 19%. The tax in December 2014 was 21%. There is a gradual reduction implemented for sales during 2015 - from 1st January 2015 to 11th July from 21% to 20% and from 12th July 2015 to 31st December 2015 at 19.50%. If your property was sold before 1st January 2015 a calculation will be used based on the coefficients applicable to the year of purchase.

The euro strengthened on the back of rumours that the EU will continue with its quantative easing programme, but for how long can the Central European Bank keep pumping billions of extra euros into the system?.

The other important reduction is on the tax paid on the rental of property. If you rent out a property in Spain EU citizens and those from Norway and Iceland will be able to declare the rental with a reduction of 5.25% from 24.75% to 19.50%. Deductions can be made for Community Fees, IBI local rates and some other expenses.

Longer term, expect Sterling to bounce back. If you need to bring Sterling into Spain in the short-term, I think you need to bite the bullet. If not, hang-on in there!

A good number of non-resident property owners are now receiving tax demands and checks are being carried out where property is rented out. Some property owners who have not been making tax declarations may be keen to take advantage of these reductions so it will pay to act quickly in updating your tax situation if you own Spanish property. If you need information or a review of your tax position please contact us on info@decottalaw.net If you are buying or selling property please contact us to arrange a free consultation on 952 527014.

Bowen Technique You may have heard of Bowen therapy but not really sure what it is.

Bowen therapy can be used to treat a wide range of conditions such as back, neck and shoulder pain, knee, and ankle and foot problems. Also an effective treatment for headaches, respiratory problems, ear infections, bowel problems and hormonal conditions. Bowen therapy is non-invasive and safe for use on all people and on most conditions so it’s ideal for everyone from the very young to the very old. Sylvia has 15 years experience of continuous practise since qualifying in 2001. If you have been suffering with pain call Sylvia to see how Bowen can help you. Sylvia Bowyer sylviabowentech@gmail.com Rebeccah Curtis Wellbeing Centre, Torrox Costa

It´s February! The month of love! Although it´s a very commercial event, love is life, so why not celebrate? 3 yogic tips and exercises:

WELLBEING

The Bowen Technique is a remedial, hands-on therapy that is applied using very gentle pressure. The practitioner uses thumbs and fingers on precise points of the body to perform Bowen’s unique sets of rolling-type moves which stimulate the bodys´ natural responses to bring about self-healing. There is no manipulation or adjustment of hard tissue and no force is used. The experience of a treatment is gentle, subtle and relaxing. It is believed that the Bowen Technique prompts the body to reset, repair and balance itself and clients report the experience of pain relief, improvement of function and recovery of energy.

L VE 1. Mantra The word mantra can be broken down into two parts: “man”, which means mind, and “tra”, meaning to free from. A mantra is a tool to free the mind. A mantra is meant to bring you back to simplicity, and helps you to focus on those things that inspire you and truly make you happy.

Choose a mantra for yourself, and link it to your breath. E.g. inhale love, exhale fear. You can use your mantra just quietly sitting down for a few minutes, or even better, during your yoga practice!

2. True love starts from within, from the heart. If you truly feel love, you will become kind; to others, but more important: to yourself. The heart chakra is associated with unconditional love, compassion and joy!

Supta Baddha Konasana: lie down on your mat, legs bend, and bring the soles of the feet together, allowing the knees to fall open. Place a block between the shoulder blades and release the crown of the head to the floor. Relax your arms next to the body, palms facing up. Take as much time as you like, feel the expansion, freedom and growth of an open heart chakra.

3. Try to feel love and kindness in your heart and your mind, in whatever you do. Remember Gandhi´s wise words: “Your beliefs become your thoughts, thoughts become words, words become actions, actions become habits, habits become values, values become your destiny”
