I recently (September 2011) spoke in Washington D.C. at the House of Representatives on the subject of "Minority Women In Technology And The Barriers We Face". It is no surprise to most that Technology as an Industry overall tends to be VERY unkind to Minority Women in Technology as noted by the number of Women who own High End Technology Businesses. My personal goal is to shed much light on developing a solution or remedy for current problems in the High End Technology World. The Web Marketing Academy Organization is looking towards bringing High End Technology to this missed demographic (Minorities, and Women). We aid the trainee towards becoming certified within 60 days of enrollment, focusing on High School Youths, Unemployed Title I Workers, Veterans, and the Disabled. Yes you can make a very decent living working from home $40,000 to $150,000 a year. We are looking towards Corporate Businesses, Federal, and Local Government entities to help pay for training and certifying the trainees. Thanks to our collaboration with the Urban League -Los Angeles we may be realizing our goals very soon.

Right now DIVERSITY in the IT Industry is now becoming the new trend or buzzword, although recent data sprouting from the major players in the market are not only disappointing but alarming. I plan to ride this wave, until I can't.

There is so much talent, uniqueness, innovation, and drive in this demographic. It is a sad shame that the Silicon Valley VC's, Investors, Movers and Shakers have purposely chosen to ignore this creative and innovative crowd.

You see, I bought my first online business for $0.00 or Free Ninety-Nine. That company made well over $500,000 over a 2 year period with only 2 college age consultants. This is the result of this new economy.

As a trainee in the program you must first get the knowledge (IT Administration, Software Development, and Digital Marketing), the next step is to take the initiative to make proper application of your new found skill, because now you are considered a "Hot Commodity" in the IT Community. We plan to start training at a new facility owned by the Urban League in West Los Angeles on Crenshaw in February 2012.

SQL Programming

By Garland L. McLaughlin Obtaining knowledge of what SQL is and how it operates is the first step that is needed in order to conquer the understanding behind its purpose. People don’t often think to realize that there is a reason how their computer can just jump to a personal calendar menu or an excel file. Most people don’t care how they are able to log onto a website, they just care to know that it works.

It is the complex language of SQL that makes it all possible.

The scripting language SQL is a complex computer language that is used for keeping track of databases and other information filing resources that can be stored on the cloud. Creating these type of databases help users and developers keep track of new, website updates, calendar information and a whole host of personal applications.

These days only developers know how to use it due to the fact that personal applications are more streamlined and do not require the users to manually perform SQL functions. The developers have created built in systems than automatically run the SQL functions on a personal computer and mobile devices. It is pretty amazing to know that news, wiki websites, glossary indexes, and personal updates on my computer run on a language that is a simulated language best understood by personal computers and the cloud.

More technical is the theme if you want to dig in deeper to understanding the SQL mystery. More lines of code sectioned off and well organized and embedded into online script readers to check against the created code, and more online hosting space will be required to store the code. This all will make sense once it is understood what is being built and what actions are needed for a computer to brand information online that can only be used by its creator.

When a client calls up the company with a complaint or an inquiry regarding the services sometimes they are left in the dark only to leave a message on an answering machine. Reaching Your Greatest Potential

By The Consultingguy (Garland L. McLaughlin) As I began reviewing the career of Mr. James Donaldson I began to quickly realize that the man that is well known for being an NBA All-Star is much more than a basketball icon.

Mr. Donaldson has worked through discipline to excel at whatever venture he chooses to be a part of. From the basketball court to business and community ventures Mr. Donaldson has always aspired to stand out and make a mark with his talents. Mr. Donaldson’s latest achievement Standing Above The Crowd is his book which highlights his game plan for success. “When I turned 50 years of age, I took a look at the long and lengthy careers that I was able to compile in both professional athletics (20 years) and as a small business entrepreneur (22 years and counting), plus involving myself in providing leadership in my community (of over 30 years), and I was able to see that in order not only to be successful, but also to have longevity, there were some similar traits and success strategies that I was implementing and everything that I have been involved with. So the reason that I wrote Standing above the Crowd is because I wanted to describe these success strategies that I've been able to implement and utilize to help me be successful. I believe that they are success strategies that anyone can implement and they range from having a vision and passion about what is want to do, to creating a great team and providing leadership around you.

Those things seem pretty elementary, but it's astonishing how many times people start out pursuing their dream, only to have it slip away between their fingertips because they haven't put together a game plan that they can follow and stick to. That's what Standing above the Crowd: Executing Your Game Plan to Be the Very Best That You Can Be, is all about.�

The road to success is never easy and often people can be discouraged by situations that could cause them to drift away from achieving their goals. Like many of us Mr. Donaldson has also been hindered by obstacles. Overcoming obstacles early in life and having someone that is willing to take an interest in a young person’s success will make a world of difference. For me, as with most young people and adolescents, I grew up very shy, insecure, and unsure of myself, coupled with the fact that I didn't know what I wanted to do or be once I reached adulthood. I didn't have much athletic ability when I began to take an interest in basketball, and if it were not for a thoughtful, kind hearted mentor (my high school basketball coach, Chuck Calhoun) who took me under his wing and helped me realize the vast pool of potential that I had buried deep inside of me, I probably never would've gotten on the “success pathway” that he helped me not only “get on”, but “stay on” by helping me to develop a positive “can do” attitude, belief in myself that I carry with me to this day. So, I've always had empathy and a deep understanding of what others go through in trying to overcome obstacles,” Mr. Donaldson explains.

As I talked with Mr. Donaldson it became clear that he truly understood what the model formula for success was and how we all can help to mold our young leaders. “I feel that all of us have leadership qualities in us, and on occasion, we are giving the opportunity to exhibit that leadership. We’re leaders from time to time in our families, in our homes, schools, churches and communities. Even if it’s only for a few minutes at a time… we can be a leader… and we shouldn’t shy away from the opportunity. I do believe that we should give our young people the opportunity to lead every once in a while because it instills in them a sense of self confidence, esteem and awareness. Watch how a young person’s confidence grows if you show confidence in him/her. That was done for me on a number of occasions growing up, and now I just embrace leadership opportunities naturally.”

Like many success stories the game may be a little different, but they all have a striking similarity.

Individual success is not guaranteed, so we must always stay hungry. One must always look to better themselves in any outcome our situation. Mr. Donaldson gave a very vivid example for setting a standard of being able to continue following paths for greater success during my interview. “I take pride in the fact that I am one who wants to continue growing throughout my life. I have a tremendous thirst for knowledge and I always feel that I can do better at everything that I undertake. Mind you, I wasn't always this focused or strategic (or confident), and as mentioned early, like most young people starting out on their respective careers, I had all the uncertainties and insecurities that one could imagine. But, I've been able to surround myself with terrific mentors and coaches every step of the way. People who hold me accountable and continue to push me to be the best that I can be, especially on those days when “I think that I have arrived”. I have a great chapter in my book, Standing above the Crowd, titled “Never Be Satisfied”.

And it's about one of the great life lessons that I learned as a student athlete back at Washington State University in the late 70’s. In the chapter I detail how I was starting to feel that I had “arrived and finally made it” as a student athlete, only to have my “tail handed to me and circles run around me” in an a very important game that we were expected to win, but I had become thoroughly embarrassed out there. After the game, my coach pulled me aside and taught me a lesson that I've never forgotten this day. So, from that point onward and continuing to this day. I've never allowed myself to become “satisfied” with where I'm at in my, because I always feel that I can do a little bit better and push myself just a little bit more. Sure, I'm happy and content, but I don't ever want to become “satisfied” until I'm ready to close the book on that chapter (as I did with professional sports) and to be able to look back and say, job well done,”

Mr. Donaldson’s team player approach can be best summed up with his quote, “There’s a wonderful saying that says “If you want to go swiftly… travel by yourself,… If you want to travel long…. travel in a group”. I always believe that team players are the ones who win and go much further in the long run. There’s “something special” in working together to accomplish a goal. Sure, you can “win” once in a blue moon on your own, but true joy comes in working together, enjoying the experiences and camaraderie together in working towards your goal.”

Overcoming obstacles also help people see life from other perspectives. Mr. Donaldson stated, “As an NBA player, I think that the greatest obstacle that I had to overcome was a career threatening knee injury that I had in the middle of my career. This happened right in the middle of my 20 year career, and it really made me take a look at where I was with my life and what in the world did I want to do if I wasn’t able to come back from this. I was sidelined for 8 months, but it was a real “eye opener” for me because it showed me who my true friends were and gave me the opportunity to look at other opportunities that might interest me. sometimes, out of adversity, there are opportunities … but, you have to be open to them and be willing to try something new and different.”

Seeing that Mr. Donaldson grew into leadership roles from his youth to adulthood I wanted to know if while he was playing in the NBA did other players often look up to him for guidance or mentorship? What coaches did he look up to for advice in life as well as on the basketball court? Mr. Donaldson answered, “As I became one of the “graybeards” and “elder statesmen” on the NBA, yes, I mentored quite a few younger players and hopefully helped them a little by sharing my insight and experience, but also by leading by example and a serious work ethic. I was privileged to play for some of the all time great coaches of the NBA such as, Hall of Famers, Lenny Wilkens, Pat Riley, Jerry Sloan and Dick Motta. All of them were terrific coaches for me and taught me so much. They were different in their approaches to coaching, but all we’re very successful as coaches, but more importantly, as leaders of young men.”

What do you feel has been your greatest accomplishment? “My greatest accomplishment was the opportunity to go to college and to obtain my degree while a student athlete at Washington State University. Like a lot of the readers of this article, I was the first in my family to go to college. College gave me the opportunity to “see a much bigger picture” of opportunities and possibilities than I ever could have realized growing up in my old neighborhood of South Sacramento. I was able to experience diversity and learn a different (not necessarily better) way of doing things and to learn from other people outside of my neighborhood in which I grew up. I didn’t realize it at the time, but by going to college, it provided me with the education that helped a little in “attempting to even out the playing field” and allowing me to better compete in whatever career path I decided on. I am always encouraging everyone to get their education and continue learning throughout their lives,” Mr. Donaldson answered. Next I asked Mr. Donaldson who encouraged him to write his book Standing Above The Crowd? Mr. Donaldson answered, “I was encouraged to write my book by my book coach (yes, another great coach in my life), Patrick Snow, author of “Creating Your Own Destiny” and “The Affluent Entrepreneur”.

Again, he was a person in my life who saw tremendous potential in me to tell my story and to help others by writing a book and telling my story. The feedback has been wonderful overall as evidenced by the overwhelming number of testimonials that I received and people who continue to spread the good word about my book and how it’s helped them and others.”

Touching on Mr. Donaldson’s personal life I asked him a few questions as well. Are you married?

Do you have children? If so how have they motivated you to become more successful? Mr. Donaldson answered, “No, I am not married nor do I have any children, but that will be the next chapter if my life. (smile!)

I am motivated by what churns away in me for the most part, but I also want to be a great role model for our youth, especially our African – American youth. We need more positive role models all around!”

Mr. Donaldson also has a very interesting side that has led him to community involvement and politics.

“In running for Mayor of Seattle in 2009 (I came in 4th out of 8 candidates in my first time run) I learned so much about how our political process works and that to really and seriously bring about change, you have to be around the “decision making table” and help to implement change by leaning your support to important issues or by speaking for underserved communities and people who aren’t around the table. I decided to run for Mayor after years of trying to run a successful business (it was a real challenge!) in underserved communities. I came to the conclusion that I could serve these communities even better from City Hall.” As a true man of his word Mr. Donaldson always seeks to do better every step of the way.

Mr. Donaldson through his example lets everyone know that, “The main focus that I am trying to get across in Standing above the Crowd, is that I really truly believe everyone has within them a vast well of potential that goes untapped because people don't realize how truly great they can be. Just as, someone came up alongside me (my high school coach and mentor) and helped me to realize the vast well of potential that I had buried deep inside of me (long before I even begin to realize my own potential), I want Standing Above the Crowd to be “a key” to help others unlock the potential buried deep inside them.

I am reminded of Martin Luther King’s great speech titled “The Three Dimensions of a Complete Life” in which he encourages all of us to be the very best that we can be. He says; “What I’m saying to you this morning, my friends, even if it falls your lot to be a street sweeper, go on out and sweep streets like Michelangelo painted pictures; sweep streets like Handel and Beethoven composed music; sweep streets like Shakespeare wrote poetry; sweep streets so well that all the host of heaven and earth will have to pause and say, "Here lived a great street sweeper who swept his job well.

If you can’t be a pine on the top of a hill Be a scrub in the valley—but be The best little scrub on the side of the hill, Be a bush if you can’t be a tree.

If you can’t be a highway just be a trail If you can’t be the sun be a star; It isn’t by size that you win or fail— Be the best of whatever you are.

And when you do this, when you do this, you’ve mastered the length of life”.

I just love this sermon because it is something that applies to each and every one of us. We can do it to be whatever it is we want to be if we put our minds to it.”

In Figuring out which credit card is the best card for online shopping purposes one will come across a variety of cards offering the best deals.

The best deal can be defined in many ways, because it is the consumer’s option on how they are looking to use the cards. Some cards may come with user points and rewards, but no real useful options to the consumer.

Other consumers may like the card simply because it is convenient for small purchases and handling small online shopping bills.

Other credit cards make the promise to consumers that they will transfer the consumers previous balances from other credit cards and the consumer will not be penalized for an extended period of time. A number of cards also provide the customer an option of having a grace periods in which they are not penalized for late payments.

A variety of companies have sprouted up over the years and promise to make good on their claim to help boost a consumer’s credit score simply by using the card and making the card payment in timely fashion. Others companies simply provide a service basically as a debit card processing solution, and they claim to report timely bill payments to credit bureaus which can affect a consumer’s credit score.

Consumers no longer look for the option… “If it works use it!” Online shoppers are selecting the best credit cards that meet their needs at the time of purchases all the way to the billing cycles.

It is quite ironic that the term “Jack In The Box� is definitely referred to as a term that reveals that a surprise is in the making. The age of service driven actions that have been known to be the jobs of everyday people have vanished. I like to call it the surprise that was not really a surprise at all.

In the creative technology design world the market is always open and ready to conduct a flow of creative juices that run through the eyes of the developers. As a technocrat that is in the know I feel that it is quite elementary to find that these interactive machines have been around since the mid to late 1980s. The technology has been around and of course human nature has not been kind in accepting this slow automated change over the last 20-25 years.

Next level breeds of visual designers have emerged captivating audiences with devices that replace workers. Most feel lost and out of touch with the alien automated order taker. Most also don’t feel the need to read instructions posted on or in close proximity to the new machine.

I gave the machine a look over and proceeded through the order and check out phases of my transactions. Time and time again someone would just ignore the machine and stand in front of the front counter. Some cook or a worker that was not handling the drive through orders would come up to the counter and have to explain and walk the customer through the order process, politely of course. Passion comes from within and what better way to create mood, mind and body stimulation than with a great space filled with inspiration and vibrancy the sun will put shades on for. Uniqueness and appeal are always welcomed features in any living or working space. Art is made through the windows of the soul and self expression, we all have the right to exercise and appreciate the energy running through the minds and heart of the artist.

-The common misconception about having mood stimulating objects surrounding you is that it’s purely materialistic. This couldn’t be further from the truth while some things hold value beyond the price paid for it, there may be history or a sentimental meaning connected to certain items found in ones home or office. For instance take a museum they spend hundred of thousands or even millions of dollars to reconstruct an object lost in a time before. But to the people whose ancestry may have been affected by this object it can be priceless, possessing endless cultural meaning and a sense of power carried over from generations past. Why do we as humans even bother with having possessions? They are not requirements to sustain life, what power does having inspiring things around us hold? Lots! Take the Asian approach of finding balance in the home also known as Feng Shui. The philosophy of feng shui is in the belief of creating positive energy within living/working areas to bring prosperity and balance to all who dwell there.

Would you go to a city dump to seek refuge and relaxation from stress or healing? Probably not so we should place the highest most cost effective, positive energy creating objects or people we can find to give the time and space needed to focus on other daily task.

-Also organization is major in all that we do. Have you ever had someone ask you “when are you going to get your life in order?” It’s because from the outside looking in you’re all over the place in your living areas or maybe it has carried over to your work.

-Get in tune with how you’re living and what you need. It starts from within and works its way out. Trust it’s not all about objects but a spiritual awakening has to occur to realize the need for balance, harmony and peace in your life. So declutter, down size and organize your mind, body and home to a path of success and growth! We must use our core value system to guide us to the correct items to purchase or in some cases make ourselves and incorporate them into our lives the way they were meant to be there. Not to make us lazy incoherent layabouts, but rather to make us better spouses or co-workers and people in general.

-On the other hand there are greater worldly conflicts that may have a direct effect on the way we as an individuals or society cope with change or lack there of. On a on a cultural, national, or global scale often times our unique experiences influence our mental outlook on what matters most to us in the world. Interacting with one another and learning to give back to the communities that helped make us who we are, is what really matters.

-It seems as if political focuses have entrenched the daily lives of everything and everyone around us. Staying focused motivated, and on staying on top of our game has been the correct political focus of all we do. Most do it because they are unsatisfied with their current state of being, so they must stay motivated and they must maintain an unwavering order that reaches out to get the best from every situation.

Judging in these times it seems as if no politician is aiming high for success. Level thinking and really reaching out to understand what is going on beyond the social clubs is just an afterthought. It’s almost that time again to spring into action listening to more and more debates

over who sounds like they are on the people’s side of the issues. We all have become complacent and bitter to situations at one time or another.

Facing day to day struggles often invite the mind to wander and think of reasons why we cannot be motivated to hurdle over an obstacle.

Asian philosophy is certainly a model for maintaining the discipline needed to be at your best at all times. One may never know the next task that maybe asked of him or her. Is that person prepared to get the job done?

What will be the key factors that enable that person to focus and accomplish goals that that person has set out to do? The same questions are also asked in regard to the political systems that are in power throughout the world.

Some countries have too much others very little and the countries in the middle just want more but they don’t want everyone to see that they are taking a little more.

Blinded and unprepared, like most politicians out there the average person falls victim to just swearing up and down that they need the next best thing. More than often the “Thing” that is needed will be of material value and not an asset to an individual’s health or well being. Face it there is no need to buy a new car every two years; your money will not last as long as your cars will. Playing the political game is not just played for financial reasons, dealing with the cut throat ways of life politics is played to survive. Having the understanding of knowing how to balance life and its ups and downs is the true test.
