JOHN H. KRIEGER, PRESIDENT
As we begin a new season at the Club, there is a renewed sense of excitement and energy. The completion of the Clubhouse Restoration Project marks a significant milestone, and I could not be more pleased with the results. The work has beautifully refreshed and enhanced our facilities while preserving the character that makes our Club so special. The restored Event Terrace and South Bar have already received a great deal of positive feedback, and I look forward to seeing these spaces enjoyed throughout the season.
I sincerely thank the membership for your incredible support throughout this process. Your confidence and patience during the construction phase made all the difference, and your endorsement of the assessment and associated funding plan was essential in bringing the project to life. I am pleased to report that 92 percent of Charter Members voted in favor of the assessment, demonstrating a strong commitment to the Club’s future.
Looking ahead, we remain dedicated to maintaining the high standards of our facilities. With the support of the membership and the thoughtful planning of our Finance Committee, we have established a long-term funding strategy that will allow us to responsibly address future capital needs while preserving the Club’s financial health.
I would also like to welcome the newly elected members of the Board of Trustees, Lawrence F. Cruise and John P. O’Brien, and to extend my sincere thanks to Craig A. Donnan and Richard S. Wesorick, who have recently completed their service. The time and dedication each Board Member gives to the Club are deeply appreciated, and their efforts have a lasting impact.
It is shaping up to be a fantastic season. Whether you enjoy a quiet evening on the terrace, participate in one of our many events, or simply spend time with friends, I hope you take full advantage of everything the Club offers. Thank you again for your continued support and enthusiasm.

With the completion of the Clubhouse Restoration Project, we begin the new season with a sense of pride and renewed enthusiasm. While you may notice a few light finishing touches taking place this summer, the major work is now behind us. The transformation has beautifully enhanced the charm and character of our clubhouse, and I could not be more pleased with the outcome.
This project was a genuine team effort and a testament to the strong support of our membership, the thoughtful leadership of our Board and Committees, and the commitment of our construction partners. It has brought new life to the Club’s historic clubhouse and set a positive course for the future. I hope you take pride in this accomplishment and share in the satisfaction of what has been accomplished.
With the clubhouse restored, our attention now turns to what makes the Club truly special—the membership and the shared experiences at the Club. We look forward to a lively and memorable season with many great events and traditions.
Whether you’re spending time on the golf course, picking up a racquet or paddle for a friendly match, or enjoying a sunny afternoon at the pool, there is something for everyone this summer. Our management team has worked diligently to prepare for the summer ahead, assembling a strong seasonal staff to complement our dedicated year-round team. Their professionalism, attention to detail, and warm hospitality are vital in creating a positive experience. I am grateful for the energy and care they bring to their work each day.
The season is already off to an excellent start, with well-attended Easter and Memorial Day celebrations setting the tone. I look forward to many more memorable gatherings throughout the summer, especially on our newly restored Terrace and Event Lawn. These enhanced spaces provide the perfect setting for our events this summer.
Our Annual 4th of July Picnic will once again be a highlight of the season, and I encourage everyone to join in what promises to be a fantastic day. Looking ahead, two of our most anticipated dining events, the Farm to Table Dinner on Saturday, August 30, and the Clam Bake on Friday, September 26, will offer the chance to enjoy exceptional dining in a beautiful setting. I expect both events to be popular, so please plan accordingly.
Thank you once again for your ongoing support. I look forward to seeing you around the Club this summer!

Rainy conditions and less-than-ideal “summer temperatures” have certainly impacted the start of the season. That being said, we were fortunate on Memorial Day to have nearly perfect weather, allowing us to spend some time outdoors. Roughly 400 members were able to enjoy a beautiful day at the Club. Despite the slow starts, the A La Carte Dining Terrace, Burke’s Bar, Pool, and Zelma’s Soda Grill are all officially open and operational for the season ahead. It’s great to welcome everyone back after the long winter for what promises to be another fantastic summer here at Country.
As is usual with Summer, there is no shortage of events for everyone in the family to enjoy. Friday Family Nights returned on Friday, June 6th. These fun-themed evenings continue every Friday through July 18th, each featuring its own unique and entertaining theme. The first Friday Foursome will also kick off on Friday, June 20th, with two additional opportunities scheduled for July 18th and August 15th later in the season. The beginning of June also marks the start of a range of robust junior activities across the Club. Tennis camps, junior golf, swim team and lessons, and Camp Country are all great ways to keep our youngest members active and engaged throughout the summer. There is still time and space to register for all these great programs should you not have done so already.
The Club is excited to reintroduce its Child Watch program. Beginning in June, Child Watch will be available in the Children’s Activity Center located next to the Men’s Locker Room entrance. During this pilot program, services will be offered Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:00am – 2:00pm, Wednesdays from 4:30pm – 9:00pm, and Saturdays from 8:00am – 9:00pm through the end of August. This program is available to children aged 3-10 who are potty trained. Members must remain on property, and the service has a state-mandated 2.5-hour time limit. The hope is that members can use this service to enjoy a game of tennis, 9 holes of golf, work out in the fitness center, or have a child-free, intimate dinner. A lot of time, research, and planning went into these decisions and where this program ultimately landed. Over the course of the summer, we will continue to monitor attendance and evaluate member feedback to determine the best course forward for this program. You can find more information regarding child watch on page 13.
As always, please feel free to contact me at gsimpson@thecountryclub.com should you have any comments, questions, or concerns.

s we head into summer, we are putting the finishing touches on our new menus. The team is excited to constantly rotate these menus as it is a challenge to them and their ability to be creative. We strive to bring the best ingredients possible to us when they become available. We are currently working with Eddy’s Fruit Farm, Rainbow Farms, Case Western Reserve, Chef’s Garden, Stoney Creek Mushrooms, and Wild Patch.
I also stopped at the Peach Truck last week in Chardon and brought in 4 cases of Georgia peaches, which we will be featuring over the next several weeks. Our first pizza night was quite successful and very busy, and I believe we made over 160 pizzas. This tends to be very popular on Wednesday nights and only gets busier as the weather warms up.
We have a packed calendar of events for you to enjoy this summer, and we look forward to seeing you around the club.
Steve Bordner Director of Golf
It was a slow start in May, but it is finally starting to feel like summer! We have continued to see positive momentum both with lesson programs and member play. When making tee times, please continue to practice good ForeTees etiquette by removing Xs when you don’t have players to fill a group and canceling tee times as early as possible when your plans change. If you’re looking to play and don’t have a game, please contact us in the Golf Shop, and we’ll be happy to help arrange a group.
The golf course is in outstanding condition, and we appreciate every member being a “steward” of the course. This is not limited to fixing your own ball marks, replacing divots, and raking bunkers. It also means encouraging others to do the same, reminding guests (and other members on occasion), and educating your children about the importance of course care. If you see someone walking up the steep face of a bunker, leaving a divot on the fairway, or forgetting to fix a ball mark, offer a friendly reminder of how we do things at Country. This will ensure that everyone experiences the best possible conditions throughout our playing season.
As the golf course remains busy, please keep the following in mind to ensure an enjoyable pace of play for all:
• Play “ready golf .”If the way is clear, hit your ball.
• Watch the ball carefully, play a provisional when in doubt.
• Take an extra club to the tee on Par 3’s.
• Be committed to keeping pace with the group in front of you.
• Minimize time looking for balls-the maximum time is 3 minutes.
• When sharing carts, drop one player off and proceed to the other ball.
• The player whose ball is nearest the hole should remove the flagstick.
• Read your putt when others are putting - be ready when it’s your turn.
• The first player to hole out should be ready to replace the flagstick.
• Leave the green after putting, mark your scores at the next tee.
• When possible, park your carts on the side nearest the next tee.
• Stops at Mae’s are traditionally done after play of the 12th hole.
• If you do elect to stop, please allow following groups to play through.
• Our new fescue areas are growing in nicely and will continue to mature over time.
• Please refrain from driving carts in the fescue.
• Our USGA Pace of Play rating is 3 hours, 51 minutes.
• Golf is more fun when played in a timely fashion!

Matt Powell Golf Course Superintendent
As we enter the heart of the golf season, our team has been working hard to establish a solid agronomic foundation to set us up for a great summer of golf. This started with the spring aeration of greens, tees, and fairways. Additionally, we applied fertilizer in our rough that will feed the turf plus prevent crabgrass and grubs throughout the duration of the season. We have lowered mowing heights on greens and fairways and worked texture to create tighter playing surfaces. Our fescue areas continue to progress nicely and have all received a spring herbicide application to eradicate/ prevent weeds. Now that these areas are two years removed from seeding, they will begin to produce the look we are trying to achieve. With that in mind, it will be crucial to keep carts out of all fescue areas. When carts drive through fescue it will get laid over and the tracks will remain visible for the rest of the summer.
It is important to remember that during summer months you may notice changing maintenance practices to ensure the health of our greens and other playing surfaces. Our team will be monitoring moisture levels on a regular basis and handwatering dry areas as needed throughout the day. This is a necessary practice to maintain uniform moisture levels while maintaining proper turf health during summer stress. Supplemental handwatering is also used to compensate for our aging irrigation system where coverage may not be sufficient. Non-disruptive cultural practices such as spiking, venting, and topdressing take place periodically to allow oxygen into the greens’ profile to maintain root health. These practices also break up surface compaction allowing water to infiltrate, while preventing them from sealing off. These small changes to our maintenance practices/ traffic patterns allow us to reduce the amount of stress the greens experience daily.
Scan the QR code for more info on what to expect during the summer months.
As the clubhouse restoration reaches a close, our team has been focused on the finishing touches with renewed landscape plantings. Thanks to the efforts of our Horticulturist, Beth, and Impulliti Landscaping, the clubhouse perimeter has a refreshed look. Our goal was to incorporate sustainable plants that will provide a variety of color throughout the season. While the new plants and trees establish this season, they will require extra attention and may appear small until they eventually mature into their full size over the next year.
We appreciate your support and look forward to seeing you on the golf course this summer.
Chris Klampe Director of Racquets, USPTA P-1
Greetings, racquet enthusiasts. We have had such an amazing start to the outdoor season; thank goodness the long winter is over! Currently, all three sports are being played regularly at the club. The last few Saturday mornings, we heard all three sports going at it simultaneously. It is amazing to see paddle being played throughout the warmer months, as players do not want to let go of the momentum they have developed over the regular winter season.
The tennis season has already begun. We have had one interclub and a few USTA matches, and programming like team drills and CardioTennis is in full swing. Next up, the juniors—as soon as school lets out!
I want to remind you to reserve your various courts at the racquet facility. The pickleball courts have been highly sought after, and the upper courts are in great demand. If you need help with court reservations, please contact me, and I will help set you up.
One event has been rescheduled: the Ladies Member Guest Tennis event. The new date is June 21st at 10:30 a.m. Lunch will be served mid-event at the racquet facility.
I hope to see everyone on the courts soon!
