The Club An important part of Cleveland's history for more than a century, The Country Club is a family friendly country club with a wide range of sport and social offerings steeped in rich memories and a timeless tradition of excellence. Founded in 1889, the Club’s storied history is unique and important to the development of the game of golf and to the early country club scene in America. It was originally located in Bratenahl, near the shores of Lake Erie. In the late 1920’s a parcel of land became available in Pepper Pike, and the Club transitioned to its current location in 1930. The Clubhouse was designed by Philip Small, a renowned local architect who also designed the Cleveland Playhouse, as well as several buildings on the campuses of John Carroll University and Case Western Reserve University. In addition to golf, the Club offers tennis, platform tennis, skeet shooting (winter), swimming, and a multitude of dining options. While Country has a proud history, outstanding facilities and a superb staff, its real strength stems primarily from its membership and the sense of camaraderie and community that is found in abundance at the Club.
William Flynn
The Golf Course Designed by renowned golf course architect William Flynn, Country opened for play at its current location in 1930. Flynn also designed local courses at The Pepper Pike Club, and Elyria Country Club. His more famous designs nationally include Shinnecock Hills, Merion, Cherry Hills, and Philadelphia Country Club. In 1935, The Country Club’s still youthful course was the scene of the United States Amateur Championship, where Lawson Little completed his “Little Slam," winning both the British and United States Amateur titles in two successive seasons. In 2022, the Club has undertaken a historical golf course restoration, led by Gil Hanse. This transformational project, which includes green expansion, bunker reconstruction, fairway regrassing, new tee construction/restoration, and practice facility upgrades will be unveiled when the course reopens on Memorial Day weekend, 2023.
Meet the Head Golf Professional After graduating from Mississippi State University in 2002, Steve worked as an Assistant Golf Professional and Director of Instruction at The Country Club, Trump International Golf Club (West Palm Beach, FL), Lost Tree Club, and The Fox Club. In 2012, he became the Head Golf Professional at Irondequoit Country Club in Rochester, NY. After spending 6 years at Irondequoit, he had the opportunity to return to The Country Club and become the 6th Head Professional in the Club’s 130year history. As an industry leader, he is passionate about mentoring young Golf Professionals and promoting their continued growth both personal and professional.

The Position Our PGM Interns will be key members of our Professional Staff and will have exposure in all aspects of our Golf Operation. Primary areas of responsibility will include, but not be limited to: • Opening/closing the Golf Shop and day to day customer service • Tournament Operations • Junior Golf Instruction • Member Services • Playing golf with members • Assisting Caddie Manager with facilitating member play • Merchandising including receiving, ticketing, and displaying both hard and soft goods

Compensation & Benefits •$15 per hour ($22.50 for hours over 40 per week)typical work week is 5 days, and 40-45 hours • Junior Golf Bonus • Staff Uniforms provided (shirts, pants, hats, etc.) • Staff housing provided at a cost of $75 per week
