For over one hundred and twenty years The Country Club has set the standard for special events and gatherings. Steeped in rich memories, with a timeless tradition of excellence, The Country Club is one of the most sophisticated venues in Cleveland. With fine-dining cuisines, exceptional service, and elegant surroundings, events at Country create a lasting impression and meaningful memories for guests that will endure a lifetime. From small intimate dinners to grand celebrations, The Country Club is the perfect site for any event.

The Country Club was founded in 1889 in Glenville, Ohio (now Bratenahl) and was a short carriage ride from Cleveland. Overlooking Lake Erie, the Club was a retreat from the city for many socially prominent Clevelanders. Initially, members enjoyed social gatherings, boating, swimming, and croquet. Shortly thereafter, on July 13, 1895 golf came to County with the addition of the Links Course. The Club and its membership proceeded decorously through the Roaring Twenties but, as the decade was winding down, the membership realized the need for more space as the ever-expanding city was now encroaching upon the club.

The answer to the space issue came from the Van Sweringen brothers, known for the creation of Shaker Heights and a sizable railroad empire, who proposed to move the Club to their new Pepper Pike development. The membership agreed to the proposal and the new site in Pepper Pike was chosen. Phillip Small was commissioned as the architect of the clubhouse and William Flynn was selected to design the golf course. On August 10, 1930, after a farewell party at the old club house, tours of the new facility began and the new clubhouse was officially opened.

In its new location, The Country Club has continued to grow and thrive providing exceptional services and recreational facilities to its members. In recent years, the Club has reinvested in its facilities with an expansive golf course restoration project and clubhouse remodel. As a nationally recognized Platinum Club, Country is the preeminent club in northeast Ohio. And although Country has a proud history, outstanding facilities, and a superb staff, its greatness stems primarily from its membership and the sense of camaraderie and community that is found in abundance at the Club.

The Mather Room, named after Country’s first President, Samuel Mather, offers a spectacular view of the golf course from an impressive bay window. Typically, The Mather Room is used in conjunction with The Crystal Room for large events. However, it can be used on its own with a seated dining capacity of one hundred and forty guests or one hundred and fifty guests for a cocktail reception. It can also facilitate a theater style seating arrangement for up to one hundred and forty guests. With rich wood paneling and beautiful view The Mather Room provides an austere space for multiple uses.

CrystalRoom

The Crystal Room, named after the room’s chandeliers and sconces, offers an elegant setting for luncheons, cocktail receptions, meetings and seated dinners. During the colder months the fireplace provides a warm glow welcoming your guests. Typically, The Crystal Room is used in conjunction with The Mather Room for large events. However, it can be used on its own with a seated dining capacity of one hundred and forty guests or one hundred and fifty guests for a cocktail reception. The Crystal Room can also be used as a cocktail reception space for dinners or other events in The Mather Room. It can also facilitate a theater style seating arrangement for up to one hundred and fifty guests.

TheCrystaland

MatherRooms

Together, The Crystal and Mather Rooms provide ample space for large events such as wedding receptions, office parties, awards banquets, large meetings, cocktail receptions, and performing events. Remodeled in 2010, The Crystal & Mather Rooms provide a stately and elegant setting for spectacular events. With a combined seating capacity of two hundred and forty guests including a dance floor or two hundred and eighty without, these rooms can accommodate everyone on your guest list. When combined with the adjacent Main Terrace or the main floor of the clubhouse, The Crystal & Mather Rooms are the premier venue in Cleveland for grand events.

PineRoom

The Pine Room, a club favorite for smaller intimate events is adorned with classic furnishings and a stately fireplace. Aptly named, the floor and wall panels are designed with beautiful pine built in the classic Federalist style. Perfect for smaller events or conference meetings, The Pine Room can accommodate forty guests for seated dinners, sixteen guests at conference tables or fifty guests in a theater-style arrangement. The room can also host cocktail parties of up to forty guests.

TheLibrary

The Library, positioned at the north end of the clubhouse challenges The Pine Room as a club favorite for smaller events. A newer room to The Club, The Library was added in 2005 as a quiet space for members to relax and enjoy a good book or host small events. The room has a warm feel with a perfect balance between traditional and modern furnishings, accentuated by a beautiful fireplace nestled between two built in book shelves. With the ability to host forty guests for seated dinners, twenty four at a conference table, or sixty guests in a theater-style arrangement, it is very flexible indeed! The Library is perfect for luncheons, card tournaments, board meetings, wine dinners and other intimate events. The room can also host cocktail parties of up to forty guests.

The Living Room

T he Living Room is Countr y ’ s larg est single room and features another spectacular fire place and classical fur nishings. Remodeled in 2006, T he Living Room still pays homag e to Phillip Small’s original design while enhancing its original features with contemporar y and time honored décor. It has the capacity to host up to one hundred and thir ty guests for seated dinners or one hundred and fifty for a cocktail rece ption. T he Living Room can also be ar rang ed for theater style presentations, seminars, or award ceremonies for up to two hundred guests. As the souther nmost room in the clubhouse, it is adjacent to the South Porch and Main Ter race which can be combined to enhance an event during the war mer months.

MainTerrace

The Main Terrace is a wonderful space for outdoor entertaining on a warm summer evening. With a vast view of the golf course and outdoor gardens The Main Terrace combines both the amenities of our club with the majesty of nature. Typically, The Main Terrace is used as a pre-function venue for events utilizing the Living Room or Crystal & Mather Rooms. However, on its own it can accommodate up to two hundred guests at a seated dinner or up to three hundred for a cocktail reception.

SouthPorch

The South Porch is located just outside the Living Room on the southern end of the clubhouse. Adjacent to the first tee and Claire’s Garden, it is an ideal venue for luncheons, small dinners and cocktail receptions. Guests will experience the beauty of Country while enjoying your event on this covered porch. The South Porch can accommodate up to fifty guests for a seated event or cocktail party.
