Championships bowls matches continued at the Golfie last week with a new team joining the mix this year.

A newly formed triples team consisting of John ‘Shark’ Daly, Anthony Polack and Damon Pike took on the “old hats” in Gerard Livingston, Tony Brown and Bian Smith last Thursday.

A seven point advantage to Livingston n Co early in play was soon matched by Team Shark’s two lots of four point advantages!

The scores were even twice!

Then, with sunset looming and neither team opting to relocate to the “twilight” green (under lights), a +5 win by Livo’s team was countered by a three end +6 win by Shark’s side.

Halfway through the game it was pretty clear that the boisterous and utterly engaged crowd of spectators could see more clearly who’s bowls were who’s!

Undeterred by failing eyesight and light both teams carried on.

It was a fantastic game, three times the scores were even and the lead was held seven times each by both teams until, clearly, team Livo’s experienced eyes declared victory to win by +4 with the win taking them through to the semi finals.

Another championship game was played on Saturday morning between old rivals Gerard Livingston and Peter ‘Skeet’ Goonrey up against Peter ‘China’ Brien and Shane Carter.

This game presented a totally different bowls scenario!

Livingston, hot off of his team’s hard fought win on Thursday, combined with his ‘master of bowls lead’, Skeet, and they went on to claim a +19 win!

China and Carter have since been spotted on the golf course honing their skills until their next bowls collaboration.

Cobar’s triples side of Kyle Roberts, Don Roberts and Craig ‘Duck’ Grimmond won the Hillston Triples tournament over the weekend.

Friday’s Twilight Bowls event was enjoyed by a field that consisted of 95 per cent newbies as many of the regular bowlers were at Hillston.

Andrew Roberts and George G. finished as +24 winners with Steve Manns, Baeden Faint and Tom McKeown the runners-up with +20.

The Jackpot was not won and keeps growing.

Steve Manns was the Spider winner.

There was no social bowls on Sunday as the club was closed due to a planned power outage. The Second
