Exciting and fun craft workshops are now on offer

Cobar Shire Council has received a Country Arts Support Program (CASP) small grant to hold some exciting and fun craft workshops.

The CASP program, administered by the Regional Arts Development Organisations, works in partnership with Outback Arts and Create NSW to provide grants to support a creative and vibrant regional NSW arts scene.

Cobar Shire Council recently held their first papermaking workshop at the Cobar Railway Station.

A group of 16 were guided through the skills of the papermaking process by workshop leader Daphne Jermyn.

The participants went away with sheets of beautiful paper that they can use at home or in the mapmaking and bookbinding workshops.

A second papermaking workshop will be held again this Sunday with mapmaking and bookbinding workshops to also be held throughout May, June and July. (See advertisement below.)

Outback Arts Executive Director Jamie-Lea Trindall said a variety of projects have been funded through CASP including music festivals, performance development and presentation, creative skill workshops in painting, how to work with resin, public artwork and local history being captured in artistic displays.

“CASP is a significant investment directly into our region,” Mrs Trindall said.

“Each year we see exciting and inspiring community events funded by CASP.”

She said they aim to have a renewed focus on community connection through creative and cultural experiences in the recovery from the past few years.

How would you like our CBD to look?

A Draft Cobar CBD Master Plan and Grand Precinct plan will go on public display tomorrow with Cobar Shire Council inviting residents to have their say in how they think our CBD should look.

Council engaged professional services group GHD last year to develop a Master Plan for the CBD, which included potential future use for the vacant Grand Hotel building.

As part of the on-site consultation process with council, key stakeholders and various members of the community, GHD explored the challenges and opportunities of the Cobar CBD.

They looked at Cobar’s attractors holistically and were asked by Council to review the current landscape and provide design advice, to review the possible future use of the Grand Hotel building and provide concept design advice for a façade improvement of the CBD.

The Draft Cobar CBD Master Plan is to go on public display tomorrow and local residents will have one month to make their submissions.
