Conversation Convoy calls into Cobar for a chat
from TCW 240523
The R U OK? Conversation Convoy visited Cobar on Monday afternoon offering locals a free cuppa and a chance to learn more about the important role we can all play in looking out for our friends, family and colleagues.
Free practical tools and tips were handed out to encourage people to stay connected and have conversations to help those close to them through difficult times in their lives.
Katherine Newton, R U OK? CEO said regular, genuine conversations about how re really going, have the power to change lives, and help the people in our world feel more supported when they’re facing life’s
By taking the R U OK? Conversation Convoy around Australia, we work to empower people with the confidence to have a meaningful conversation if they spot the signs someone close to them might be struggling Ms Newton said.
The R U OK? Conversation Convoy travels around the country and forms part of the outreach work R U OK? carries out in regional and rural communities.
This year the Convoy will travel through NSW, QLD, NT and SA, covering more than s important to give people the opportunity to come to us.
“Some people prefer that face-to-face conversation, or they want to know about services or organisations like us,” she said.
During the Convoy, R U OK? links in with local services and visits communities, school leaders and workplaces providing resources and listening to feedback.
“We know that locals know best.
“The Conversation Convoy gives R U OK? the opportunity to hear directly from communities and better understand their current needs.
“This helps inform the development of future resources and campaigns to ensure they are practical and useful,” Ms Newton said.
The R U OK? Conversation Convoy is made possible with the generous support of: Connor Clothing, The Audi Foundation, KitKat, Nescafé and Spirit Super.

Staff from the Commonwealth Bank Cobar branch Jake Tumai-Lynch (branch manager), Jeannine Cowan and Nicole Bereyne, called into the Copper City Men’s Shed last week to present members with a $500 donation from the bank’s Community Donations program. The Men’s Shed will put the money towards an electrical upgrade (estimated at $4,000) which is needed to run the shed’s dust extraction system.

• Woohoo, well done to Cobar Camels Jayden Harvey and Marika Tuilau on their selection for the Western Plains team for the 2023 Rugby Country Champions next month in Tamworth.
• Well done Cobar High School students who raised $545 taking part in the ‘Do it for Dolly 23’ fundraiser, hosted by the Student Representative Council at the school last week. The funds go to Dolly’s Dream, an organisation committed to changing the culture of bullying by addressing its impact on anxiety, depression and youth suicide, through education and direct support to young people and families. The Dolly’s Dream charity was set up by 14 year old teenager Dolly Everett’s family who died by suicide after extensive cyberbullying in 2018.
• Sympathy is extended to the family and friends of former Cobar resident, Kevin Miskell, who passed away last week at age 87 after a long battle with cancer. Cobar Rugby League held a minute’s silence before First Grade in honour of the former player.
• Good luck to Cobar High School athletes Axel Fairfull, Jayden Paul, Sophie Clark and Sarah Morely who are playing repre- sentative rugby league this week in Wollongong.
