The Cobar Ladies’ Golf Club Championships were played on the weekend over 54 holes with Jenny Stephenson (123) in A Grade, Fran Samios (144) in B Grade and Daphne Cross (170) in C Grade the overnight leaders going into the second day.
Stephenson increased her lead on Sunday and won the A Grade title with a scratch score of 242 from runner-up Julie Livingston on 275. Sally Bannister won the Net division in A Grade with 230 and Narelle Kriz was the runner-up with 236 net.
Trailing by four shots going into Sunday, Jannine Wilkin (293) was able to catch the leaders and win the B Grade title by nine shots over Fran Samios (302). The Net winner was Geraldine Francisco on 229 while Brenda Fugar was the runner-up with 235 net. Daphne Cross had a 10 shot head start on Sunday in C Grade and held on to win by eight shots with 336 from Ann Dunn on 344. Reina Cross was the handicap winner (251 net) and Glenda Peebles the runner-up (257 net).
Tough 24-20 victory for Roosters
The Cobar Roosters First Grade side finished with a hard fought 24-20 victory over the Narromine Jets at Narromine on Saturday in the Christie & Hood Castlereagh League competition.
Hard working forward Gerald Mackey crossed twice with Ash Davies and Beigh Hillier scoring a try each. Roosters captain/coach Tom Plater landed all four conversions to help the Cobar team to a win.
The win puts Cobar in third place on the competition ladder however the composition and the pecking order of the top five is still unresolved going into the final round of the competition this weekend.
The Gulgong Terriers have the minor prem- iership well and truly stitched up after they downed the Baradine Magpies 26-12 at Baradine on Saturday, and they sit seven points ahead of the Dunedoo Swans who currently hold down second position on the ladder.
Perched just one point adrift of the Swans on the ladder is Cobar and, if they can become the first team to take the yap out of the Terriers in their Boronia Cup Round 14 clash (and the Swans were to lose to a desperate Gilgandra Panthers outfit), then the Roosters would finish in second position.
It is however no easy task for the Roosters as they have to endure another long road trip to Gulgong and then overcome the Terriers on their home patch.

An 18 hole ball competition was played in conjunction with the championships on both days with 16 ladies taking part on Saturday and 19 on Sunday. Marlene Wynd won on Saturday with 73 net and Samios was second on 75 net. Bannister finished third after a countback with Wilkin when both posted 76 net. Another countback was needed to separate Stephenson, Francisco and Daphne Cross after each had 77 net.
The Nearest the Pin winners on the 15th hole were Stephenson, Fugar and Reina Cross.
In Sunday’s round, Wilkin was the winner with 69 net. Livingston was the runner-up on 73 net followed by Fay Hardwick (75), Susan Goonrey, Stephenson, Karen Manns and Bannister (all on 77 net). Closest to the flag on the 3rd hole were Kriz, Fugar and Dunn.
In the warm up to the championships, the Stroke game win on Wednesday went to Reina Cross with 76 net. Tena Blignaut finished second (77) followed by Jenny Stephenson and Julie Livingston, both on 79. The best on the greens were Hardwick (26 putts), Goonrey (27 putts) while Reina and Daphne Cross shared the C Grade prize with 30 putts each. T'd Off
