Chess has taken off in Cobar

Chess has taken off at the Cobar Youth & Community Centre with 24 kids playing in last Thursday’s weekly competition. Over the one hour of competition, players will get to play three games randomly against other players. There’s a small prize per game and if a player wins all three games in one afternoon, they get to choose their prize from a prize pool. The winner each week is based on percentages. Once players have competed for three weeks they are then eligible to be included on the leaderboard. The ages of players ranges from 7-18 years but adults are also welcome to join and test their skills against the top juniors. Players of all levels are welcome and learners are helped along by the other players. ▪ Photo contributed
