By GEM Adult Day Services, Inc. During this time of staying safe and social distancing, GEM is seeking a viable way to connect with our at-risk population. The challenges we face in creating a meaningful virtual connection with our participants is complicated because they are living with Alzheimer’s or a related dementia. GEM has created a new program called GEMz offering a combination of both a Zoom meeting and tangible materials at home to hold the attention of our participants. The first GEMz program will begin on Friday July 3 with a sing-a-long led by Angelo Sonnesso and our families will have printed copies of the words of the song lyrics. The next week, July 10, Ana Figiel will be leading a bingo game using Zoom, with the additional support for our families of having their bingo cards in hand. GEMz events also include an Art class on

July 17 with Barbara Hanft and Susan Darling; families will receive the craft materials and an instruction sheet from GEMz before the event. Our fourth program on July 24 will be a chair exercise class with Ana Figiel; families will have a printed description of the exercises we will be doing. There is no charge for these programs and we
invite you to register with Gail Sonnesso, executive director, by emailing her at gsonnesso@gmail.com or by phone at 252-4803354. We invite you to participate in these programs with your loved one living with dementia, and give us feedback and suggestions that might help us make it a better experience. If you don’t have the capability to print the
handouts GEM will be providing GEMz packets to those who register at a drive by location. GEM is a community based 501 (c) (3) non-profit and while we are not charging for participation, there are printing and other costs associated and we will gladly accept donations mailed to GEM, PO Box 3601, Kill Devil Hills, NC 27948.
