Exploring the Trades By Sheyenne Kreamer
As we continue our series of articles related to living our song and creating our future, it seemed appropriate to focus our attention for a bit in a slightly different direction – working in the trades. In the last article, I talked about the fact that we were “designed” to create. Construction, automotive, manufacturing & hairdressing – these are just a few of the skillsets we can acquire that allow many the opportunity for creation, and the satisfaction that comes with it. Is this a path more of us should be taking to satisfy our desire to create? I love this topic because I was a rebellious teenager that was not ready to go to college straight out of high school – even

though I was valedictorian of my class. If I had not been fortunate enough to attend a presentation at my school about becoming a toolmaker apprentice in manufacturing, my life may have taken a very different path! Tradesmen from across the Triangle have been sounding the alarm for more than a decade that our schools were not doing enough to promote the trades as a career option. In my experience at local career fairs, I would say this was a shared problem – given that we rarely, if ever, saw the trades represented. I'm not sure if they weren't invited, or they just didn't take the time to attend. We recently had the opportunity to survey a sample of about 45 students at a Raleigh high school and here is what we found: • About 1/3 of them were planning on college • About 1/3 of them wanted to start their own business • The remainder had no idea what they wanted to do Of the 15 or so students that had no clue, we asked them if they

knew much about or had any interest in learning about the trades. Most felt that they knew very little about the opportunities that exist in the trades, and all said they would like to learn more. Let's also look briefly at learning styles. Estimates have held that 30-40% of us are kinesthetic learners, which simply means we learn more effectively by doing. Given that many companies engaged in the trades teach through apprenticeships, does it make sense that as many as 30-40% of our students would benefit from a trades-oriented career path, rather than one based on college? We know that in the past 2 years, students and adults alike have had the opportunity to rethink what their career paths should ultimately look like. CNBC reported that 1 in 4 people have resigned from their jobs this year, with 4.4 million in September alone! With average salaries ranging from the $40's to the $60's, and more available for those who become true artisans, or even business owners, it would appear the trades deserve a bit more attention from all age groups as we move into post-pandemic America. If the human brain is truly happiest when we are creating, why not create in the trades?

Moreover, you can also cover your face through surgical masks as it keeps the droplets to yourself only. Stay home, stay safe If you are sick, then don't plan to infect others. Try to stay at home to protect yourself from cold weather and gain more energy. Moreover, when you are at home, you can't re-infect everything as it is easy to cover your face while sneezing, and you are able to wash your hands at home. It helps you to protect your loved ones and recover fast. When you are at home, you can rest in the warm blanket that helps to gain more energy.

KEYS TO QUALITY OF LIFE AS WE AGE - PART 1 Stereotypes of Aging by Stephanie Whitten “Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter.” Mark Twain Over the decades when thinking of aging, the mind conjures up images of people with gray hair, walking bent over with a cane, and conversations repeating the same answer repeatedly. This vision depicts the daily perceptions of aging and the elderly with stereotypes that are not attractive. I have seen it on a regular basis and experienced it myself, 8 years doing home care and going back to school for Health and Fitness Science at the age of 47. I have cared for the elderly, watching, and helping them in all kinds of capacities. Preparing food, surgery recovery, going for walks, in and out of beds, wheelchairs, showers, balance training, and assisting with stretching and range of motion. I have observed the wide range that ages 45+ can show up in their families’ lives as well as their own. When I registered to go back to school, my very first class was gym and I never thought about my age being a factor in anything I did. I had a torn ligament, tendons, and a cracked wrist from catching a paralyzed patient from falling on the floor. I had 4 pins in my wrist and a cast on my arm from surgery. We had to pick partners for fitness testing, and of course, no one wanted to be partners with the “Old Woman” with the broken arm!!!!LOL!!!! Here I am in a class full of 18 – 25-year Olds at the peak of their physical selves!!! LOL!!! Let me paint this pic.... I am the oldest person in class. Yep!! Kinda intimidating!! No, not really, because I knew why I was there. I knew who I was and what I could do. I knew my passion to help others and nothing was going to stand in my way to learn what I needed to learn, not even a wrist attached to my body with four pins and a cast on it! 24

My partner was a young lady that did not like to even exercise, how did I know that? Every opportunity she was on her phone and she said she hated to exercise! LOL!! We had to do sit-ups, step-ups and run 1.5 miles under a certain time. I had that covered, but the real problem was the push-ups, with the cast on. While listening to students having a conversation about the “Old Woman with the Cast” and how was she going to do pushups? Little did they know I was asking myself the same question. I never thought about not doing them, but how? So I got out a mat like everyone else, the instructor said, “GO”! In all the thinking I totally forgot I had 2 arms!!!! I got on my knees and proceeded to do one-arm pushups. Yes, never knew I could do it till that very moment. This article is the start of a series that will be looking at some of the myths of aging, and how I have found ways that I have dealt with these changes myself, and other tips. One of the biggest things that we need to understand is who controls the computers behind blockchain or cryptocurrencies? These computers have open-source programs, of which the database records the transactions and is called a ledger. Nobody at the network is counterfeiting the currency and double-spending the same bitcoins. Moreover, the complete transaction history is at every computer in the network. Keep in mind that transactions are permanent. The people are running the programs that have incentives. It has direct competition with monetary rewards, so it is a race against each other to batch together for the block of transactions. However, keep in mind that the reward of every block is not the same. The bitcoins are the miners with nicknames as they are mining the gold. Fact or Fiction: Are Your Limiting Beliefs Sabotaging Your Exercise Routine? by Lynn DelGaudio We ALL have those little (or very BIG) voices in our heads that say ‘I’m not good enough’ or ‘I can’t do it’ or ‘I’m broke’ etc. Do you ever check in with these thoughts and test them? Chances are they’re complete fiction, BS, lies! If we have goals – big or small – and we’re not achieving them, chances are there is a limiting belief (often more than one) that’s getting in the way and sabotaging progress. Example: You want to get in shape, but you keep telling yourself “I can’t work out because just don’t have the time”. More than likely, that’s a limiting belief and not a fact. Time is all we have, and we have some choice as to how we fill it. Let’s face it; we always have time to do something. There are hundreds of great workouts you can do from your office chair or in your living room!! However, if you say, “I can’t work out because I broke my femur” (and assuming you really did), well, that’s factual (although you could still do upper body!) Are you a busy professional who wants to exercise, but can’t seem to make it to the gym, or you just can’t break away for a long period of time? Are there no good gym options near the workplace? Don’t let your limiting beliefs completely derail you! If you must, bring the gym to the office! Try this: every hour, on the hour, take five minutes to do ab crunches, knee raises, squats, etc.

In the car a lot? At every red light try this exercise, “red light, tummy tight” (taught to me by an Aerobics instructor, Cherise in Irvine, CA years ago!). When the light turns red, crunch in your abs and hold until the light turns green. (Repeat as often as you like, red light or not!) While sitting on the couch, hold your abs in and one leg at a time, with your leg bent 90 degrees, lift one knee up six inches, hold a few seconds, fully extend the leg out, hold, bend leg 90 degrees again and lower to the floor. Repeat on each side ten times. Add arms for a more intense couch potato drill! Try this for seven days and get back to me! A Calm Soul Makes Trying Times Conquerable by Lynn DelGaudio
We’ve certainly been experiencing some trying times, and no doubt, we always will. Keeping our soul calm through chaos and uncertainty is key. This was originally a little blog post, but you can use it as one long affirmation, or lots of little affirmations. Difficulties give me an opportunity to exercise my focus and determination. During trying times, I concentrate on maintaining a calm soul. This approach helps me to conquer the challenges that face me. I avoid being reactive to difficult situations that catch me off guard. While it is easy to allow circumstances and events to anger, or otherwise trigger me, I choose to take the higher road. I spend a lot of time nurturing my mind and spirit. I train myself to keep calm when that is the least natural approach. It forces me to develop the will to overcome the toughest situations. When I encounter resistance, my first step is to silence my soul. I realize that giving in to negativity only serves to worsen any situation. I observe the stirrings of impatience, anger, or other negative emotions that pull at me, and then shift into a better feeling and emotion through deliberate thought. My focus is on overcoming the challenge at hand by counteracting negativity with positivity and peace.

My wisdom in handling trying times encourages me to act from a place of calm reasoning. When my soul is calm, I can think things through. By acknowledging and shifting unease at my core, I can make smart choices that produce finer results. Today, I am a conqueror. I can overcome any obstacle. With serenity, I can see the value in all my life experiences. Even obstacles become worthwhile and meaningful when seen in this light.
