Off-White™ continues to celebrate the enduring vision and values of Virgil Abloh, by showcasing for the first time in the Middle East an “Imaginary Experience”, a world within a world that is simultaneously a map and a form of transportation: a spaceship, a theater, and a portal to another world—one devoted entirely to the imagination.

The “Imaginary Experience” included a Trunk Show of Virgil Abloh’s “High Fashion” collection, that took place at Studio 7, a design concept store in Qatar rooted in Arab culture, a playground of perception where function dares to have fun, that was followed by an “Imaginary’ dinner in a majestic farm in the heart of Doha, Qatar. To complete the experience, Qatar Creates, which is led by HE Sheikha Al Mayassa, held its closing tour of “Figures of Speech” at Doha Fire Station. The first museum exhibition in the Middle East dedicated to the late acclaimed designer and creative Virgil Abloh showcasing more than 55 of his artwork. www.theciin.com


The trunk show that was showcased is just one of a profusion of interdisciplinary expressions in the city concreting “Imaginary,” an Off-White™ platform desired by Virgil Abloh and dedicated to cultural reinterpretation, disruption, and transformation as a means of instigating a new dialogue and format of the future. Rooted in Abloh’s stated desire to define a universal language that transcends cultural parameters and opens the conversation to all, it affirms that the label’s next chapter remains grounded in its founder and creative director’s guiding philosophy: “Question everything.” This signature exchange between past and future, cultural and subcultural to articulate and progress the present is debuted through the “High Fashion” collection, all designed, envisioned, and finalized by Virgil Abloh. Sinuous dresses are abbreviated to a radical micro length, while the waistlines of jeans and pants are notably dropped. Knitwear separates are fluid and glamorous, transposing transparent layers and sensual boucle wools with compact yarns and fuzzy, textured cutout jacquards. The appearance of Swarovski crystals advocates overt shine and luxe. Instead of classifying haute couture as the origin source of the clothes distinctive to urban tribes, it examines haute couture as a pinnacle articulation of these lifestyle expressions and the practices and ideologies that form their foundation. The ultimate creation is a self-portrait through the lens of haute couture. It amplifies Abloh’s always dimensional expression of what is ‘really real,’ rather than an expectation, stereotype, projection, or outdated ideal.

Please introduce yourself to our readers. My name is Pia Bajpayee an actor. I am from Etawah, UP. I am living in Mumbai for the last 9 to 10 years. I have featured in many films in the South and couple of Hindi films too. I mostly work in commercial advertisements. Please tell us about your education. I was just a 12th grade student when I came to Mumbai. What are your favorite childhood memories? As a child I loved the holidays and what they brought with them. Going over to my Nani's place was my favorite memory. I loved villages and the natural experiences it gave us like climbing on trees and just wandering in the open grounds, flying kite with my brother, spending time just on our own and no rules! When and how did you get into modeling? Everyone in my family was into teaching and I wanted to do something else because I was not very academic and couldn't see myself as a teacher. So, instead I got into modeling as I wanted to build my own name, make my parents proud, and my city proud. I used to perform in all cultural activities in school and knew from the beginning that this was my calling.

Do you have any tricks or routines to stay healthy and beautiful? No there's no particular trick but every one should eat healthy that suits you. No strict rules just keep a schedule for the eating. A perfect body is a myth and it's always a work in progress. I'm a vegetarian and in my food and I follow the Satvik rule which is a mix of Ayurvedic and other stuff. Do you have any other secret talent(s)? I don't think there's any such thing as a secret talent. If it's a talent it will come up so no, I don't have any secret talents. What is your message for your fans in the middleeast? I love middle-East I have been to Dubai and I love the city and how it functions. So, I love you guys and I love how you all live. Your message for us at CiiN magazine. Thank you, guys, for asking me such wonderful questions and making me feel special.

18 Which was your best acting experience of all the

movies you have worked in so far? I can't choose one as each role is different and valuable in its own sense. Each director is different so you just can't say one thing is a good experience and others are not. All of my movies and projects have taught me something and it would be wrong and unfair to say that one is better than the other. Tell us about some of your upcoming movie projects. I have worked in a film called 'Lost' by Pink director Anirudhha Rai Chowdhary and it’s soon going to hit the screens. Name your dream role you’d like to do one day? Frankly speaking, I don't dream about roles and I'm open to any ideas. I enjoy all my roles and I feel some things in life should be unpredictable. I'm open to surprises in life.

Gradient highlights Berluti’s iconic patina signature with a strong colour game, taking on three distinctive seasonal shades. Each one of its models is reinterpreted here with a focus on functionality by adding an extra front flat pocket. Inspired by nature, fauna and the mineral world, the new patinas comprise Beetle Green, mimicking the metallic reflections of a beetle’s armor; Duna, an ode to the delicate desert landscapes; and Sapphire Blue, a glamorous, cool shade of blue with subtle purple undertones. Each patina takes over the Venezia leather items as a gradient, with different shades of the same colour - ranging from darker to lighter or vice-versa, each highlighting the different functions of the bags and bringing singular depth to every piece.

Please introduce yourself to our readers. I am Anjum Sulaiman an artist from Bangladesh. I'm 34 years old, single child and living with my mother. I specialize in cubic portrait paintings, body art and love doing experiments with art. Tell us about your education. I did my O and A levels from Sunnydale, a reputed English medium school in Dhaka. Later, I completed my undergrad LLB from University of London under Bhuiyan Academy. How and when did you discover your love for art? Since I was around 3 or 4 years old I had a thing for art and my parents admitted me to a local art school. In 2018, I started doing art regularly and also began to go to teachers to learn professionally. How would you best describe your style of art? Is simply cubism but I would also say it's experimental. Where do you take inspiration for your work? Mainly from Picasso and also from Pinterest and Instagram. I love modern artists like Michael Lang and Gabe Weis. What is your favorite medium for producing your art? Absolute favorite are oil paints but I also use acrylic paint a lot. Can you describe your studio? A very cozy place for my people to hangout. Every furniture or lamps or rugs are all made in Bangladesh. It is very simple yet colorful. At the same time very messy. There is paint and incomplete work laying around. The walls are filled with my art. April, 2022

What are some of your biggest achievements so far? When people want to buy my art that's my biggest achievement. Other than that, I got featured on a show on a national television of Bangladesh "Nexus Chanel". My tote bags are sold in Jatra (20 years old and first local craft shop in Bangladesh). Some of my works are sold through community and later the amount is donated to charity. Recently, I got an offer to showcase my work in Shilpokola Academy Dhaka.

What artistic process goes into creating your work? Can you take us through your process from concept to final work? There's no one process in making an art piece. Every work has its own process. When I recycle, it's a different process compared to a new one I'm making. Laying on a couch, I'm sketching and that turned out good. Putting hours of hard work on one single piece and asking my teacher to do the touch ups. When I paint on Canvas or tote bags or paper or bottle or walls. Well to me every process is different but one thing is common that is I try my best to make it look desirable.

How do you overcome creative blocks? I don't get creative blocks. If I'm angry or upset or sad I just don't touch my brush. Before starting a piece I know well what I'll be painting on it and that's how I order my canvas or cut the papers.

What message do you like to convey through your work? The message would be - that to create artworks you do not need certificates. All you need is an observing pair of eyes, intention, ideas, internet and paints. What inspired you to body art? It's not a common concept in Bangladesh. I like to experiment and wanted to try to paint on a human body. It is much harder than paper as April, 2022


body keeps on moving. So, I thought of taking it as a challenge. As it was first time in Bangladesh, I wanted to use the opportunity. Also my first human canvas Shayla was willing and very excited. What are some of the challenges you find in body art painting? Firstly finding a muse/model for it. I'm also heavily criticized for it, solely because of the Bengali Muslim mindset. It's also difficult to find appropriate paint for body, that's completely skin friendly. Also making the audience see the art and not the nude body.

How does it differ to paint on a body and on a canvas? I take days to complete a work on canvas whereas on a human body I'm bound to finish it within five hours. As I also need to take pictures whilst the sunlight remains. Human body is never still, plus the sweat and heat of the body makes it quite difficult. Paint drips easily. Also there's little room for mistakes. What are you currently working on? I am currently working on canvas Tote Bags and altered Bottle Art. How and where do you sell your work? Do you also take commissioned work? I prefer not to take commission based work but I do at times if it's related with my style of painting. Design elements, includes abundant greenery, expansive floorplates, and a Waterfall Garden, all contributing to a memorable relaxed customer experiences set against a backdrop of avant-garde fashion and visually stimulating contemporary design elements.

138 Tranquility by design Burdifilek was commissioned to design three floors of the department store, including the Zen-like ambiance of the atrium. The soothing elements of the atrium are visible from all levels of the department store, nourished by abundant natural light drawn in through a skylight extending through the core of the building. Leveraging the building’s unique architecture with multiple voids throughout, Burdifilek conceptualized a green belt that would wrap around the spaces and provide continuity to an overall theme of tranquility and well-being. Taking cues from the grand piazza, the green belt becomes a runway for everyday life activities from social interactions to art displays, pop-up stages and inspiring encounters. One begins their journey with an auditory sensation of a cascading waterfall. A gravity defying 12-meter-tall sculptural waterfall stands prominently in the main atrium, surrounded by organically shaped floating islands. The calming Waterfall Garden cascades through dancing water features with seating extending from its fluid forms. The concept of nature is carried forward with reflective borders that mimic tranquil water patterns along the inner edges of the ceiling planes, creating the visual effect of glancing up at a reflecting pond. “We were given a substantial piece of architecture with many atriums. Hyundai’s vision was to allocate 50 percent of this floor plate to create public spaces where people can socialize in a much more experiential environment than the typical mall experience has to offer,” says Diego Burdi, Co-founder and Creative Director of Burdifilek. “At the end our solution was inspired by Seoul’s surrounding nature. We chose to bring the outside in and create something unexpected that plays with scale and as the green concept began to extend to the whole environment the building became softer and more conducive to those memorable experiences.” www.theciin.com

Interpreting a new language In conceptualizing the totality of each floor, Burdifilek drew upon its experience and expertise to perfect the details of each individual element to create a branded environment that is strengthened by the sum of its parts. From floors, to walls, ceilings, furnishings, fixtures, and materiality, each floor presents its own dialect of experiences and visual display elements, all tailored to the style of merchandise and the lifestyle trends of those most apt to shop there.

An experiential palette Second floor: Sculpture Garden On the second floor, Burdifilek’s interpretation of the future home for women’s high-end fashion is at the heart of elegance and timeless luxury. Anchored by iconic forms, with an emphasis on textures and sculptural tonality, the floor offers a gallery-like space for one to meander and explore. Use of gentle, indirect lighting accentuates fluid forms on the ceiling to radiate an ethereal quality. Custom hanging fixtures with refined detail elevates the feeling of lightness while providing a cohesive language for curated brands to shine. A combination of a subdued color palette with layers of reflectivity and translucency further boosts the sophisticated atmosphere.

Third Floor: Provocative Wilderness In Contrast, on the third floor, the designers swiftly change up the mood and invites one to another world. Expanding on the concept of nature and the sculptural garden, this level takes on the abstract form of a blooming. While maintaining a degree of commonality with the second floor in terms of sculptural elements, this floor expresses them in bolder form, amidst a creative backdrop of shocking deep blue hanging systems, aggressive materiality with an emphasis on the contrast of natural and man-made materials, unfinished ceiling, custom built, vacuum-formed sculptural walls and a simple color palette that speaks more directly to the featured brands. In this modern retail emporium, the worlds of art, design and fashion collide to create a cultural experience that transcends beyond a mere shopping experience. “Our philosophy was to create environments on each floor that would speak to a specific demographic, with a different design language while evoking nature in the spaces in various ways,” says Diego Burdi. “We also strived to create some commonality through sculptural elements that will resonate with the guests and give a physical experience of wondering and exploring.” www.theciin.com
