Introducing the Donna Hourani x Gemfields‘The Bridge’ Collection

The Donna Hourani x Gemfields ‘The Bridge’ Collection is an exciting new collaboration designed to showcase the power and serenity of emeralds. Lebanese-born fine jewellery designer Hourani launched her eponymous label in Dubai in 2016, inspired by her lifelong fascination with emeralds, something she shares with others with discerning taste: from Cleopatra and Moses to the Indian Mughal emperors.

The Bridge collection is a testament to this love affair: it uses fine Zambian emeralds, all from Gemfields, a world-leading miner of responsibly sourced coloured gemstones and the majority owner of the Kagem mine in Zambia. Gemfields mines coloured gemstones with transparency, legitimacy and integrity as its core principles, leading the way in the industry and making the group a perfect fit for Hourani, who has always been passionate about responsible sourcing.

Soundous Moufakir

Fake It Till You Make It Happen.

Soundous Moufakir is a Moroccon model who appeared as a contestant in the most-watched reality show MTV Roadies X9 season18 in 2022.

Soundous always desired to be a model. She came to India to start her career in modelling. She worked with brands like Caprese and Softline.

She has also been a part of some bridal shoots. Before becoming a model, Soundous was a financial analyst.

Soundous also appeared in the Hindi Music album Aja Aja, opposite Sunny Ratan on 23 December 2020. This was her first music video.

We sat with Soundous this month for this exclusive cover interview.

16 www.theciin.com
January, 2023 17

Please introduce yourself to our readers.

Hello I'm Soundous Moufakir. I'm 27 years old French and Moroccan. I came to India a year ago. I'm a graduate in Finance and I've done my MBA in finance from IMT Ghaziabad. I'm an aspiring actor and a model.

What are your fondest childhood memories?

I think they're mostly with my grandmother as I was most of the time with her. The farm, farmhouse, nature, the wind, I miss it all because nowadays I'm mostly into work, glam and fashion and I miss these little moments.

Tell us about your education. At the age of 16, I moved from Morocco to Paris to my dream school which is EM Strasbourg to do my Masters Degree in Finance in 2017 and moved to India to pursue MBA in Finance in Sustainable and Corporate Finance from IMT Ghaziabad.

When and how did you get into modeling? Who inspired you?

I actually inspired myself by being confident and looking in the mirror and seeing a beautiful person. I was normally a shy and introvert person but in front of the mirror I would act and dance freely. I think to get into Bollywood Industry we need to first start with modelling and get comfortable in front of the camera before we start acting. I grew watching Vogue and Victoria's Secret shows and was a big fan of fashion. Also being in the fashion capital that is Paris at the age of 16, inspired me a lot.

Why and when did you move to India?

I came to India for the first time in 2017 for my MBA from IMT Ghaziabad and then went back to Paris for 4 years to work there. When I worked in Finance and established a career in it I felt that maybe it's time to try the thing that I've always loved which is to get into Bollywood.

What qualities and attributes do you think are needed to become a good model?

I think that's a wrong question to ask in itself. Because the time has changed and we do not need to be perfect or to fit in a box to be a good model. Everyone is beautiful in their on way, whether you are thin or chubby, have long or short hair, tall or short. As long as you be yourself and confident, you don't need anything else to be a model.

How was your experience participating in the reality show MTV Roadies X9?

It was so challenging for me as it was within two months of me coming to India. I remember working so hard on my resume during those two months, go to the gym and work on my dancing skills. I used to google and contact casting directors, agencies as I had no clue what to do.

20 www.theciin.com

Being in Roadies was also tough as I struggled with the language and some of the participants were ex-roadies and they already knew the game. The competition level was already high and I'm proud of myself as even as a foreigner I was successful in building a personality and the perception that I wanted people to look at me through.

How was your experience working with Sunny Ratan for his music album Aja Aja?

That was also great. Sunny Ratan was someone I met in the gym who used to see me working hard everyday and he was inspired. Once he told me that he had a music video that he was producing and it would be good for my break. So, we discussed the project and it was nice working with someone who was also trying to build his craft at the same time. I thought it was a win-win situation.

And how was your acting experience in “Ulhje Hue”?

It was so amazing because that was my first movie experience and acting next to these experienced young actors gave me so much motivation and determination because we were at the same age but they were already there. I felt I needed to catch up but I learned a lot. That was a good feeling because it put a little bit of pressure on me and made me work twice harder.

Any new projects you are working on?

Yes, my first music video with me in the main lead is coming where I'm dancing and sizzling. It has some street dance and belly dance moves. It's an item number called Habibi. Another short movie called Continuity produced and directed by Deepak Singh.

What is your ideal role or character that you would like to play in a movie?

I would love to play a smart IT girl who has that power that no one can break easily but at the same time when she is with her lover she is sweet and fragile. I want that kind of character that everyone looks up to but once she's home she is very submissive and different.

What is your fitness routine?

I either dance or go to gym. If I want an outdoor workout I run, but sometimes I do an indoor workout with a lot of stretching.

What other secret talents do you have?

I believe I'm a good actor but language is still a

What does the tattoo ‘ن’ on your finger signify? It's the letter N in Arabic. It actually has one point but I added two more to signify the three most important people in my life. Me my sister, my mom and my dad because all their names start with 'N'. It's in the middle finger next to the wedding finger because I'd like my husband to know that my family comes before everything.

Frizz-Free & Healthy Hair for the New Year with The Hair Addict!

www.theciin.com 30

For 2022, La Grande Maison introduces a new aesthetic interpretation of one of its most admired models for women, the Reverso One. Distinguished, like all Reverso models, by the strength and purity of line derived from the original Art Deco design and identified by the three straight-line gadroons that define both the upper and lower edges of the case, the new Reverso One introduces a captivating intense green colour adding new refinement to the collection.

With its elongated case – a design inspired by the very first Reverso Lady model of 1931 – and a row of grain-set diamonds defining the gadroons at the upper and lower edges of the case, Reverso One interprets femininity in a classically refined style. Finely drawn lines define the four corners of the dial, where the light and airy Arabic numerals look almost as if they have been hand-sketched.

CECILIE BAHNSEN LAUNCHES SS23 COLLECTION

For Spring/Summer 2023, Cecilie Bahnsen reflects on finding couture in the everyday, influenced by the individuality of women around her and growing brand admirers.

The new collection emphasizes the concept of not saving clothes “for best” but wearing them and giving new life to the traditions of couture. As part of the season’s reflection on couture for every day, Cecilie collaborates with sneaker brand ASICS, customising past season stock to create one of a kind pairs.

Spring/Summer 2023 is a season of light, airy silhouettes created off-the-page: on models and mannequins, rather than drawn and translated into 3D. The colour palette of the collection – a Scandinavian core of black and white – continues to expand with bursts of pale apple green, soft lavender and bright accents of blue. For this season, Cecilie adds denim and t-shirts alongside her line-up of signature bespoke luxury fabrics, adding subtle masculine counterpoint to her hyper-feminine dresses.

Founder & Creative Director, Cecilie Bahnsen says:

“I’ve been thinking a lot this season about how the girls in the studio and our community wear our clothes. How they might put on a dress on a rainy Tuesday morning to feel good, or go to a party on a Saturday night. I grew up dreaming of Paris and couture, but it was always something fancy, not for real life. I love the idea that I’m able to create something precious for every day.”

Berlin Fashion Week:

UA Label LITKOVSKA Shows As Special Guest

The latest collection by LITKOVSKA, entitled «Vesnianka» as a tribute to traditional Ukrainian spring-greeting songs, explores the beauty of life and its stages, linking coming-of-age not only to one’s own individual development, but to cultures and nations as a whole. Honouring the solar year, traditional Ukrainian culture celebrates every phase of nature’s cycle, associating spring – and its «Vesnianka» hymns – with rebirth. For LITKOVSKA, «Vesnianka» is a visual tale about hopes for tomorrow, and fears and choices to be made: a documented metaphorical transition, the collection praises a fearless step towards the new dawn, the new spring, a new world.

Ukraine is facing a fundamental change – and while initiation is often dreadful and gruesome, it always leads to a hopeful tomorrow. The brand’s founder Lilia Litkovska sees Ukraine as an unquenchable source of inspiration: a young nation going through its adolescence and fighting for its freedom, the designer’s homeland is still in its «Spring» years, which became a core of the collection’s concept. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Lilia Litkovska has been committed to helping her country financially and artistically, raising

awareness about the struggles of the war, creating charitable projects and championing the work of her fellow Ukrainian designers. For the SS’23 collection, the designer also aimed to combine couture with a bold statement. Several pieces are decorated with an embroidery of a heartbreaking poem called «A Prayer of a Ukrainian Patriot», which was initially written by a political dissident in his blood on the walls of his cell in 1930-s.

In terms of visual aesthetics, LITKOVSKA stays true to its refined, arts-inspired chic – an intersection between sophisticated tailoring and daily comfort filled with allusions to traditional Ukrainian costume. The neutral colour palette ranges from innocent raw linen to strict and bold black pieces – a subtle way to accentuate the diversity of choices youth brings. Weightless fringed dresses and crocheted accessories sit alongside tailored masculine suits and intricate gowns. SS’23 LITKOVSKA styles are unified in their difference: ceremonial and downto-earth, androgynous and feminine, bountied with pitch-perfect lines and charmingly chaotic silhouettes, they embody youthful energy in a humble, intimate way.

BALLY LAUNCHES SS23 COLLECTION BY RHUIGI VILLASEÑOR

BALLY is delighted to launch its Spring/Summer 2023 collection designed by their new creative director, Rhuigi Villaseñor.

The new collection is a cosmopolitan exploration of European luxury through a distinctly American lens. Swiss leather craftsmanship, the lynchpin of BALLY’s 171-year heritage, is applied to ready-to-wear and accessories for women and men with an innate sense of sophistication and humor in equal parts.

Reflecting on the ease of sportswear and its universal language — from Santa Monica to Sankt Moritz — Villaseñor approaches BALLY’s DNA as a leathergoods atelier with a lightness of hand, ushering in a new sensuality and glamour for the House. Bold and unapologetic, historical nods to the worlds of sports and cinema abound throughout a collection that walks on the wild side, marrying an elevated, youthful wardrobe with elements of ironic nostalgia. Daywear and eveningwear collide in a wardrobe that exudes the confidence of the well-traveled.

Villaseñor injects a tangible new energy through Western details and worldly references. The result is a melting pot of radical luxury: a fresh conversation between the old world and the new.

ANTIFER

Inspired by the shape of the cliffs of Antifer in Normandy, the timeless Antifer collection is characterized by a simple line forming a cliff, which stacks architecturally in an asymmetrical rhythm.

SERTI SUR VIDE

Like a floating diamond, as a simple, strong, and unique design, “Serti Sur Vide” collection features a diamond which is “set on the void”.

The collection reinvents iconic jewelry classics, like the solitaire ring: the diamond is floating to reveal the stone purity. It is set on a hidden structure and floats on the skin as in a magnetic levitation.

MANGO Launches Recyclable Denim Collection

MANGO, one of Europe's leading fashion groups, is taking one step further in its journey towards sustainability with the launch of its first denim collection designed with circularity criteria, in order to make the pieces easier to use and recycle after their useful life, in this way promoting a second life for products.

The new collection, in capsule format, includes various designs in denim for women. Some with dirty washes such as trousers, skirts, jumpsuits, gilets, and cropped jackets in indigo and black in on-trend silhouettes influenced by

the 2000s. Designs with low rise, cargo details, rips, and wide fits are predominant throughout the collection.

To achieve greater circularity, the new garments in the collection have been designed with a single type of fibre (100% cotton) at least 20% of which is recycled while accessories such as rivets and jacron labels have been eliminated. To further minimise waste during product development, the pieces were designed using 3D digital design technology which reduces the number of samples produced.

Berluti presents ‘The Great Escape’

Fall/Winter 2023 collection

In the modern age, real luxury is increasingly characterized by time, ease, and essentiality. For Fall-Winter 2023, Berluti presents The Great Escape, a collection founded in a refined approach to the reality of contemporary dressing, released in four chapters over the course of the season. Tailored to the Berluti man, it is a reflection of an instinctive and unconstrained approach to living: an effortless elegance shaped by a dynamic life on the move and the reinvented dress codes for which it calls, rooted in fine craftsmanship imbued with the soul of the Maison’s history. Anchored in the activity that defines our everyday lives – from travel to sports – the proposal epitomizes the comfort and functionality core to the territory. Through the elevated lens of Berluti, these values manifest in an authentic wardrobe brought to life through the artisanal knowhow embodied by the Maison.

www.theciin.com
132

The Fall-Winter 2023 Collection signifies a revitalization of Berluti’s genetics manifested in the debut of the Toile Marbeuf, a new line of handbags inspired by the interiors of the store whose name it carries. The premise informs a visual conversation between the past and future reflected in each of the collection’s releases. Summit Icons, the first launch, stages a conversation between sprezzatura and sport in a wardrobe at once timeless and bold. In Ascend Play, the contemporary sportswear ward-

robe is interpreted through the elevated binoculars of Berluti, while Ridge Travel studies a generational approach to tailoring through sporty and functional construction and fabrication. With Peak Point, the Maison adapts its own signatures to a distinctly alpine wardrobe. The release concludes a season proposition distinguished by a diversified evolvement of menswear classics customized to the timelessness, versatility, and boldness synonymous with luxury today.

QASIMI LAUNCHES ITS SS23 COLLECTION

Military threads, desert nomads, sartorial subversion, technology with a soul and the natural camouflage of mirage horizons combine for QASIMI SS23.

Under the creative direction of Hoor Al-Qasimi, twin to the late founder Khalid Al-Qasimi, the eponymously-named label from London continues the latter’s legacy by honoring the codes he proudly developed. Al-Qasimi states “Legacy is not just about what you leave behind. It’s also what you do going forward.” Each is a cornerstone of QASIMI’s identity, enhancing the under- tones of exploration and those who choose a nomadic lifestyle.

For SS23, the Tuareg people, as well as the Saharawi and the

Sahel regions, act as the inspiration for the deep, unavoidable indigo hues that permeate this season’s collection. This band of outsiders, ones who do not follow the status quo, hark back to QASIMI AW21 and AW22, and today appear in their most transformative approach thus far.

A look book bolstered by the deep blue hue backdrops visions of tailoring – womenswear follows a traditional drape, folding delicately across the body as the Tuareg’s attire does. Woven market bags contrast this in red, matching shoes in the same theme

138 www.theciin.com

echo the divergence, while technical fabrics enhance QASIMI’s traditions of not following the mainstream code.

U.S. army combat uniforms, Swiss army work jackets, Swedish army popovers, thermal zip necks and parachutes underpin the military tropes. The volumes, vents and seams breathe a sense of lightness into an altogether utilitarian story, creating a modern uniform for today. Rope macramé, inspired by pearl diving and seafaring communities in the Gulf, forms a top, while MiddleEastern architecture in all its grandeur contributes to the sharp lines that cut throughout SS23.

January, 2023

Softening this is the unexpected application of an image of a dove, taken by the photographer Tariq Al-Hajri, continuing QASIMI’s love for spotlighting artists. Embellishments of pearls – beaded and strung – reflect on Middle-Eastern history once more, draping over tailored jackets and adding an oceanic texture to shirts that are otherwise structured in the collar and sleeve.

As per the QASIMI philosophy, SS23 is a proud and resilient collection that seeks to unite all, finding our inner nomad in this increasingly turbulent atmosphere. Filled with optimism and nostalgia, SS23 spans genres and continents, as Khalid Al-Qasimi triumphed in his work since the founding of QASIMI in 2008.

HÔTEL BACHAUMONT

Located in Sentier, a hip Parisian neighbourhood in the city’s second arrondissement, Hôtel Bachaumont is the debut property of Samy Marciano. A former hotel that was previously a clinic, the newest reincarnation is a 49room affair, designed by Dorothée Meilichzon, whose playful retro style and art deco accents are inspired by the golden era of the 19th-century building’s heyday. The hotel, its restaurant and two bars are hidden in a narrow street of one of the most lively and trendy neighborhood of the heart of the French capital.

144 www.theciin.com
www.hotelbachaumont.com January, 2023 145

Back in Paris’s Roaring ’20s, the Hôtel Bachaumont was one of the city’s hot spots, conveniently located near the bustling marketplace of Les Halles in the Montorgueil neighborhood. It took its name from Louis Petit de Bachaumont, a controversial writer who disclosed sordid secrets about 18th century France in his “Mémoires Secrets”. Celebrities, doctors, society and traders ocked to the hotel for its great location by Les Halles. But after the stalls moved to the suburbs in the 1970s, the hotel closed its doors and the building became a clinic. Now the property has been revived and restored to its former glory, albeit with a contemporary twist.

Let’s fast forward a century to the Hôtel Bachaumont being restored to its former glory! Months of extensive work have given it back its heart and soul: the façade has been painstakingly restored, the age-old Hôtel Bachaumont wording engraved in the stone has been brought to light, the wrought iron gate has been refurbished... The first in a collection of elegant and timeless establishments, Hôtel Bachaumont has brought its age-old charm into the 21st century.

The hotel is located in the Upper Marais, in an area of pedestrianised streets, alleys and quirky passages. For those who love to walk, many of the city’s great sights, from Notre Dame to the Louvre, can be reached on foot in 20 minutes.

146 www.theciin.com

The stylish Art Deco–inspired interiors are by of-the-moment designer Dorothée Meilichzon, who was also behind the Grand Hotel Pigalle and several other hip Parisian destinations. Guests enter through an elegant corridor appointed with a graphic blackand-white marble floor, which takes its geometric motif from the restored iron door. The 49 rooms (including four suites) are outfitted in cool shades of blue, teal, and gray and furnished with marble and wood desks, Stilnovo lighting, and headboards upholstered in Pierre Frey fabrics. The bathrooms are equally vibrant, with colorful tile floors and white penny-tile walls. Several rooms include petite terraces overlooking the roofs of the city and the hotel’s restaurant.

January, 2023 147

FOODIE DESTINATION

Meilichzon’s designs continue into Bachaumont’s spacious restaurant and intimate bar, which are worth a visit even if you’re not staying at the hotel. The ground floor restaurant has been restored to its former glory with large spaces, an open kitchen and large glass roof. Harking back to the main door, the large arches play on perspectives to bring the spaces together with comfortable seating and a large backgammon-inspired dining table forming the nerve centre of the restaurant. Moody walls play on black and white with extensive carpentry and countless wooden mouldings and tilted mirrors.

The Bachaumont’s star-turn restaurant and cocktail bar are run by the sassy Experimental Group: these are the guys who brought craft cocktails to Paris in 2007 with the opening of the nearby and ever-fabulous Experimental Cocktail Club. Gorgeous Art Deco details (the glass roof is stunning), an open kitchen with gleaming copper pots, and contemporary brasserie fare lures a smart and

trendy crowd to the excellent-value restaurant where a two- or three-course set lunch will set you back

The Restaurant Bachaumont transforms itself over the hours to capture the moments of the day and the moods of the neighborhood, without fuss, with a desire for elegance and refinement, it is a place of life open to all. Cosmopolitan par excellence, it is above all a Parisian address.

The effortlessly simple menu with seemingly “standard” dishes (devilled eggs, leeks vinaigrette etc.) and a new take on brasserie style put a fresh and modern spin on the most iconic and classic dishes in the French repertoire. Simple dishes made with a passionate, clear and mod-

148 www.theciin.com

ern touch with a signature dish of the day on a weekly menu. A selection of prime French produce, Maine-Anjou cattle, suckling lamb and more showcase the beautiful meat cooked in the rôtisserie. And… what about the breakfast? A never-ending savoury and sweet buffet of plenty of fresh baguettes, eggs, salmon, fruits and of course all the French patisseries, desserts, traditional cheeses and cured meats.

WELLNESS & SPA

Hotel Bachaumont is delighted to present its new treatment room, located on the first floor, in partnership with Codage Paris. As an individual or a couple, our Front Desk is at your disposal for your wellness experience booking: Facial and body treatments, world massages, beauty & hair expertise…

Stay a few days and make yourself at home in this car-free rue Montorgueil neighbourhood, which is almost entirely composed of bakeries, food and wine shops, bistros and bars.

S-Pace 1628

1628 Magog, Canada

The S-Pace 1628 project, designed by 1628 and located a few steps from Lake Memphremagog in Magog, was created to house the offices of an architectural firm, as well as to serve as the residence of its leaders. A light, sculptural, and continuous roof unites all the volumes like a plan deposited over the building. This roof gives the project a distinctive and harmonious appearance that is reminiscent of the surrounding hills. The shape of the roof is found inside the building; many of the ceilings take this form, which creates unique spaces.

151
January, 2023

Concept

The objective of the project was to create a harmonious building in which the two main functions will be intertwined and will intersect, while being able to separate and be autonomous. Everything had to fit harmoniously into this particular sector of the Eastern Townships. For the owners, grouping of most of their activities in one place reduces everyday travel to a minimum, while making the most of a very pleasant environment.

152 www.theciin.com

Volumetry

The building is made up of three main ivory-coloured masonry (offices, residence, and garage) volumes, interconnected by the circulation spaces (main vestibule and staircase), and the hybrid space that is the multipurpose room. The residential volume is surmounted by a sub-volume slightly offset and covered with white metallic cladding. The thin roof is the articulated surface that connects all these volumes. The materials used are pale in color and have a light appearance that blends in well with the surrounding built environment.

153 January, 2023

Interior spaces

The interior spaces are divided into flexible zones. The office area is placed near the main entrance, at the north end of the building. The living and private spaces are placed at the other end, away from the professional activities. Without having defined borders, these areas of work and life intertwine and intersect, yet can be separated to be autonomous. Sliding doors and partitions make it possible to transform the spaces according to the desired uses. Many vanishing points created allow the eye to move constantly; the spaces are delimited, but always remain open to the interior and the exterior.

The office area is directly accessible from the main vestibule. In this sector, the rooms benefit from generous and open spaces with high articulated ceilings. The windows are concentrated on the west side, providing views of the lake. Patio doors create a direct link with the outdoors, and only screen partitions divide the space. From there, when activities are being held in the multipurpose room, the owners can directly access the residential area without crossing through it. The multipurpose room is the hub of the residence/office. It was designed to host receptions and exhibitions, and also to serve as a meeting room for the firm. It is directly accessible from the entrance vestibule via a pair of 4-meter-high raw steel doors. The room benefits from light coming from the east and opens towards the wooded part of the site. On the west side of the room, two retractable maple partitions can close the link between the space and the living rooms of the

www.theciin.com 154

residence, making it a very flexible space adaptable to all uses. In addition, the large meeting table is modular and extendable, and can be removed very easily to free up the room.

The residence is located in the two levels volume, located south of the site. The living rooms are grouped together in a friendly open-plan room on the ground floor. The windows are generous, highlighting views of the lake and the the surrounding panorama. Several patio doors open onto a large covered veranda that borders the south and west sides of the volume. This veranda is literally an extension of the living rooms, with its configuration enabling it to be inhabited in several ways. A fold in the roof partially closes this space on the south side to reduce glare and increase privacy. The second floor includes the master suite and a secondary suite. Again, the rooms are largely fenestrated and enjoy spectacular views. The master suite is located at the south end of the floor and is the most secluded and private place in the house. It opens directly onto a generous balcony on which a summer bed has been built.

Environment

Particular attention was paid during the design to obtain a high-performance envelope, an essential element for the harsh climate of the site. The facing and finishing materials used on the exterior and interior are durable and require very little maintenance.

Structure

The structure of the building, prefabricated in the factory, is made entirely of wood. The designers had to use the latest modeling software to successfully design the whole thing without having to rely on structural steel. Workshop fabrication was probably the only way to make all the pieces of this puzzle with the precision required for such a work.

The S-Pace 1628 project brings together all the required functionalities in a coherent whole that is adapted to the site, where barriers between the interior and the exterior are almost non-existent.

Cadillac Reveals Liveries for V-LMDh Race Cars

Bold V-Series color-and-graphic designs shown on final design of all-new electrified prototype race cars

156
www.theciin.com

Cadillac today revealed the liveries for the three all-new electrified V-LMDh race cars that will make their competition debut at the Rolex 24 At Daytona this month.

The three distinctive designs represent the teams campaigning the all-new Cadillac V-LMDh, each with a different bold color from the Cadillac V-Series emblem.

157
January, 2023

“Cadillac is ready to compete against the very best in North America and internationally — including one of the world’s toughest races, the 24 Hours of Le Mans,” said Global Vice President of Cadillac Rory Harvey. “As Cadillac builds toward an all-electric future, the all-new V-LMDh furthers our dedication to exploring new advanced performance technologies.”

Cadillac Racing will be competing in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship with the No. 01 Cadillac Racing and No. 31 Whelen Engineering V-LMDh cars and in the FIA World Endurance Championship with the No. 2 Cadillac Racing V-LMDh.

The eleventh season of FIA World Endurance Championship, will kick start with Official Prologue at Sebring on March 11th and 12th, 2023 and conclude in Bahrain on November 4th, 2023.

www.theciin.com 158

Kristian Aquilina, Managing Director, Cadillac International Operations and Cadillac Middle East: “This year, Cadillac is claiming its territory in the racing space, honoring its performance pedigree with new and advanced technologies. We’re also thrilled that our audiences in the Middle East, will get to witness one of the races, taking place in Bahrain. The launch of the Escalade-V and V-Series Blackwing in the region showed an undeniable passion for performance. We can’t wait for November!”

The three liveries share a V-Series graphic-and-color theme. Each car wears one of the primary colors of the V-Series logo, including No. 01 in gold, No. 2 in blue and red on the No. 31.

The V-LMDh is powered by Cadillac’s all-new LMC55R 5.5L DOHC V-8 that’s paired with the LMDh common hybrid system. Developed in-house, the naturally aspirated racing engine is rated up to 670 horsepower, per series specifications, and is backed by a sevenspeed sequential gearbox.

Co-developed by Cadillac Racing, Cadillac Design and Dallara, the final Cadillac V-LMDh design was informed by the Project GTP Hypercar that debuted last summer. It incorporates distinctive Cadillac design elements such as vertical lighting and floating blades.

"From an aesthetic point of view, the LMDh regulations allowed us to create a vision for the car that is clearly Cadillac," said Chris Mikalauskas, lead exterior creative designer, Cadillac. "And that's really exciting for fans and for people who are true enthusiasts, every car is unique.

The Team

Drivers for each team contributed to the V-LMDh’s testing. Earl Bamber and Alex Lynn will compete in the No. 2 V-LMDh for the full season of FIA WEC, and the Rolex 24 At Daytona. For endurance races they will be joined by Richard Westbrook.

Additionally, Sebastian Bourdais and Renger van der Zande will drive the second No. 01 V-LMDh in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship series and at Le Mans. For endurance races they will be joined by 6-time IndyCar champion, Scott Dixon.

WELCOME TO THE PARISIAN NEO-CABARET

Opening the doors of Mondaine is entering a temple of luxury, a place that is strangely familiar… and familiarly strange. Orchestrated by the talented Daphné Desjeux, this XXL apartment with its subdued lights has been imagined as the luxurious Parisian bachelor pad of a lover of art and parties: deliciously chic and superbly decadent.

162 www.theciin.com

January, 2023 163

The Parisian night has just given herself a name: Mondaine. This is an extraordinary experience, free of rules and conventions. A very private party, straight out of the 70’s, with a sultry scent and an artistic vision. It is a parallel world where sophistication overcomes reality.

One could meet Serge Gainsbourg, Grace Jones or Yves Saint-Laurent without batting an eye. It is not surprising to meet in the esh, other larger-than-life characters, permanent residents of this extraordinary apartment, your guides for the night.

Who takes center stage ? Who is the simple spectator ? In this immersive and joyful Parisian neo-cabaret ? The lines quickly blurred and one plays along with delight : at Mondaine, reality and ction form a perfect combination.

LOVE ON THE BEAT

That is the real star of the show. Exceptional live musicians incite you to let it go. The tone is set as soon as you enter, where the drummer welcomes the evening’s guests with a captivating rhythm. Like nomads, the other band members move freely in the space. As they play together, the whole of Mondaine holds its breath, fully immersed in the irresistible musical atmosphere, experienced with a new intensity.

Spread out over two floors, the rooms and their nooks unfold their unique ambiances throughout night. The Smokeroom, the Bedroom, the Bar, the Alcoves, the Library, every room is an opportunity for unexpected encounters and electric moments.

ARCHI & DECO

“I imagined the decor of Mondaine as a fantasy... That of a beautiful bourgeois woman, adept at the big world, who organizes memorable receptions for select friends, alongside the magni cent Yves Saint-Laurent, the indomitable Serge Gainsbourg and other emblematic characters. I wanted to create a warm, inhabited and multiple place, which invites you to not want to know what time it is” says Daphné Desjeux.

“Everything here is round, as an illustration of the intoxication that erases and softens our perceptions. The decor re ects this : the curved shape of the lighting xtures, the curved shapes of the soft carpets with moiré and poppy patterns, respectively seen at Yves-Saint Laurent and Serge Gainsbourg.

Everything is also curved in the seats and benches. The «heart» chair is inspired by the back of the vertiginous dress of Mirelle Darc in «The Tall Blond Guy with one black shoe». Finally, the roundness is also illustrated in the fresco of the staircase mirror where breasts, mouths and buttocks intermingle, like the projection suggested of a chic decadence”, continues the Founder of Mondaine.

“The details participate in inviting a domestic atmosphere. The 180 frames that line the walls, the beveled mirrors on the bar, the plush velvet on the benches, the floral cotton for the lampshades, the dark leopard print on the stools; but also the four-poster beds, and the many antique objects nestled in the bookcases... I looked for the sexy without the vulgar, the drunken without the inebriated, the chic without the too much”, explains Daphné.

166

SEXY FOOD

At Mondaine, indulgence and familiarity play a central role. The most noble products, from lobster to caviar are made to be shared, and luxury is enjoyed in a festive and playful way. It is the pleasure of simple and comforting sharing dishes , executed to perfection - Scallops carpaccio, caviar; beef llet with cafe de Paris sauce, beautiful dover sole to share...

Lovers of ne wines will nd something to satisfy their wildest desires, while the cocktail menu gives tribute to the iconic drinks of the Parisian night scene. They are served by a bar team that has perfectly mastered the art of mixology... and showmanship.

SEE THE CITY DIFFERENTLY

At 219.5m above ground, Sky Views Dubai, located at Address Sky View Hotel, is the latest attraction to sweep visitors off their feet with mesmerizing perspectives of Downtown Dubai's pristine expanses below and the city skyline beyond.

Taking advantage of the hotel's twin towers feature, the Observatory gives guests a panoramic glass elevator ride to level 52, from where they can access a spiral staircase to the floor above for a spellbinding 46m-long glass walk to the adjacent building. Ideal for all ages, the Glass Slide best captures childhood joy, affording a spectacular ride inside a transparent tunnel from level 53 to 52 of the tower. Meanwhile, true risk-takers will look forward to a trek along the Edge Walk – this one-of-a-kind experience puts guests, all equipped with safety harnesses, on an outer ledge encircling the skyscraper's highest pod.

Regardless of the offering selected, each one allows daring participants to enjoy rare 360-degree views of the iconic landmarks around.

URBAN ZIPLINING

XLine Dubai Marina is one of the steepest and fastest ziplines around the globe, measuring 1km in length, up to 170m in height and with an average speed of 80km/h. Hold on tight as you zip across and enjoy a bird’s-eye vantage point of the glitzy Dubai neighbourhood below, complete with five-star yachts and sleek high-rise towers. Unlike a traditional zipline, XLine uses ‘superman’ harnesses, allowing participants to lie belly-down and maximise on a thrilling flight-like experience as well as the panoramic views. There are two concurrently running ziplines, which means you can share the experience with a friend or loved one.
