On October 7, 2020, at a dazzling event at Icon Siam, Bangkok, Thailand, Mouawad unveiled the Mouawad Miss Universe Thailand 2020 Crown. The unveiling came during the preliminary competition for Miss Universe Thailand 2020 before an audience of VIPs and select media. Fourth generation Mouawad Co-Guardian Mr. Fred Mouawad, who carried out the unveiling, commented, “The Mouawad Miss Universe Thailand Crown is named the “Power of Authenticity” to align and amplify the theme of the 2020 Miss Universe Thailand pageant – ‘Real U, Real Universe’.” The Power of Authenticity crown has been designed to incorporate authentic motifs that celebrate Thailand’s noble heritage, with the crown’s base recalling the traditional headwear of the Ayutthaya nobility and the upper motifs inspired by the intricate patterns of Thai temples. Such motifs are emblematic of how values of craft and skill are entwined with beauty in Thai culture and how intelligence and talent have long been considered as the essence of nobility. Crafted from 18k gold, the Mouawad Power of Authenticity Crown is set with precious gemstones that reflect the colors of the Thai national flag while also carrying a deeper symbolism: white to symbolize the purity that is inherent in authenticity, sincerity and inner wisdom, the boldness of red for the power that is unleashed when being true to ourselves, and blue to evoke the nobility associated with speaking the truth and living a life of purpose. The culmination of the Miss Universe Thailand pageant will take place at Icon Siam on October 10, 2020, when the winner of the title Miss Universe Thailand 2020 will be announced and crowned with the Mouawad Miss Universe Power of Authenticity Crown.

theAGENDA Celebrity Favorite Skincare Brand Augustinus Bader Launches in the Region

12

Developed by a world-leading expert in stem cell research, Professor Augustinus Bader has spent 30 years unlocking the body’s innate processes to self-heal and uncovered how to reawaken cells that go dormant over time due to aging or trauma. The result? Game-changing skincare that actually works. Globally recognized as one of the leaders in stem cell biology, Professor Bader’s mission started with the intention to help burn victims, particularly children with traumatic injuries. In 2008, he formulated a groundbreaking wound gel that heals even third-degree burns without surgery or skin grafts. It works by carrying a set of healing signals to the site of the wound or burn, triggering the damaged skin cells and facilitating perfect healing. Augustinus Bader Skincare was born out of this breakthrough. In 2018, Augustinus Bader Skincare launched with two hero products – The Cream and The Rich Cream; followed by The Body Cream which was launched in 2019. All three creams contain patented TFC8® (Trigger Factor Complex) technology, which supports the skin’s natural processes, leaving all skin types – mature, dry, oily, or sensitive – looking restored and regenerated. TFC8® is comprised of natural amino acids, high-grade vitamins and synthesized molecules naturally found in skin. It guides key nutrients and powerful natural ingredients to the skin cells, creating an optimal environment for the body’s innate processes of repair and renewal. Augustinus Bader Skincare was not born in a boardroom. This brand is the byproduct of groundbreaking research intended to find a way to heal wounds without scarring and was created to help continue to fund this important scientific work to help more people around the world. It starts and ends with a mission to bring Professor Bader’s state-of-theart technology to those in need, and today it has become a cult favorite of celebrities around the world, including Kim Kardashian West, Courtney Cox, Demi Moore, Naomi Campbell and many more. Available exclusively in store at Harvey Nichols – Dubai and Bloomingdales Middle East, and online at Ounass.com and Bloomingdales.ae

GIVENCHY UNVEILS FIRST ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN FEATURING NEW HOUSE SIGNATURES BY CREATIVE DIRECTOR MATTHEW M. WILLIAMS

In a series of images shot by the photographer Nick Knight, a longtime friend and collaborator, the designer lifts the veil on his aesthetic for Givenchy, revealing key hardware symbols that he will bring to the fore in collections for both women and men. Since his appointment as Creative Director of Givenchy in June 2020, Williams has been quietly honing a fresh, modern attitude for the Parisian fashion house. He began by drawing inspiration from his new life in Paris, incorporating beloved places and emblems into his designs. In particular, a picture he took of the celebrated ‘love locks’ adorning the bridges of Paris was the starting point for an original take on Givenchy signatures. Metallic symbols floating against gradated pastel grounds, creating a distinctive, street-edged tone. Williams infuses classic chains with his personal vision: flat and angular links are stylized into a “G” shape — a subtle yet immediately recognizable visual code denoting unity and interconnectedness. October, 2020

HRH Sheikha Mariam, Founder and Designer of MKS Jewelry, has reinterpreted the moon in her latest collection: New Moon. Part of the Sea Signs collection, Sheikha Mariam celebrates the phases of the moon, a phenomenon that is ever changing and yet constant– like the human heart and mind. The moon is a symbol of setting an intention and connection with the present, knowing that the intention may change due to the energy of catalysts that are greater than us. The New Moon collection is a reminder to be kind to one’s self, to fully embrace who you are and to embrace the change that is happening within first. Just as the moon, everything changes and that is the only constant.

15 Concept Our cube is a constant source of inspiration. This family again pays tribute to our logo by personalizing the leather through the use of irony and optical illusion.

Design The idea was to emboss the leather using a specially developed plaque to create an optical illusion, giving volume to our cubes whilst at the same time simulating a braided effect. An optical trick in clear reference to the sense of humour that characterizes PG.

Construction Bags are light, flexible and smooth to the touch. They are stripped bare of almost all hardware, leaving only the discreet, cubeshaped trimmings specially developed for this family. Patterns result in clean, minimalist shapes, placing all the emphasis on the leather itself.

Materials, techniques and colour High quality cowhide in solid colours combines the embossed outline of our cube through our Stamp technique. For a perfect finish a special plaque is created to emboss each design. A different leather has been chosen for each colour in order to emphasise its intensity. The braided effect varies depending on the characteristics of each leather.

Personality Versatile, light and unique. Available in various models including shopper, hobo or a flapped version. A concept that reinvents and pays tribute to Purificacion Garcia’s most recognizable code: our cube.

Read on this exclusive interview we had with Nicole to learn more about her and her business.

www.theciin.com

Hi, please introduce yourself to our readers.

I am Nicole Aisha Pickering, my mother is Swedish and my father is Irish. I grew up in Dublin, Ireland and have now spend over a decade living in Dubai.

Tell us about your education.

I started working from a young age, whilst in school so I didn’t go to university.

How and when did you land in Dubai?

I moved to Dubai in September 2009 after having previously visited on vacation in January of the same year. My family have been doing business in the MiddleEast for many years so, when I decided that I wanted to move abroad; Dubai made the most sense for me.

You started as a model, what sparked your interest in fashion? My mother was a model all of her career so it was natural for me too. Specially with my tall height of 181cm. I began modelling when I was 16 years old.

When and why did you decide to open your multi-brand store ‘ESCHEL’ I have always had drive and motivation to work hard and I decided that I wanted to do more than modelling. So I decided to open up the store in 2012. I named the brand after my late grandmother, Eschel.

What was the biggest rookie mistake you made when just starting out? Starting out, one of the biggest mistakes I made was thinking that I knew it all and not really listening or taking any advice on board.

In a sentence or two, can you describe ESCHEL, and what makes it different and special?

Eschel was established 8 years ago originally with a boutique in downtown Dubai before moving the business online this year. We still have several of the same loyal customers since day one because we truly care about the customer and take care of every little detail.

What was your biggest fear when going out and starting your own business? I think when starting out I was actually fearless. I was so motivated and was just focusing on the end goal.

Did you face any difficulties at the initial stage of setting up your business?

As a very young expat female doing everything by herself there were a lot of challenges along the way. It takes a very strong personality to stay determined as I did to keep the business going all these years.

How do you tackle challenges that arise?

I am fortunate to have a very resilient character so for me challenges are just part of the journey and I don’t dwell on anything. I just keep things moving.

How do you source the items to be sold at your store?

Before setting up the store in 2012 I had spent the year prior doing my research and visiting various suppliers locally and abroad. So, I have a good list of suppliers.

What role do you think social media plays in your business today?

Social media plays a massive role in my business today and I can’t even imagine how the business would survive without it.

What are you fascinated by at the moment and how does it feed into your work?

I’m very much fascinated with beauty and wellbeing so, I incorporate monthly blogs with self care tips on the website.

What is the biggest lesson that you have learned since you started your company?

The biggest lesson I’ve learned in these past 8 years would be to listen to people’s advice and not be too stubborn with decisions.

20

What would you like to achieve before the end of the year?

With this year being the year of uncertainty with Covid, it’s difficult to set goals. So, I set my goals for daily and weekly basis currently to not put too much pressure on myself.

What’s your motto?

Confident walking is more successful than confused running.

What are some of your other hobbies?

My hobbies include working out, dining out and I am a big nature lover and so when the weather is pleasant I love to be outdoors.

What do you do to relax?

I love to be at home so to unwind from a busy day. I would definitely be chilling at home.

How would you describe your own fashion style?

I have a very eclectic fashion style so it all depends on my mood, where I’m going or who I’m going with.

Your message for CiiN magazine.

Thank you for the honour of being featured in such a stylish publication! www.theciin.com

KENZO Bee a Tiger Spring Summer 2021 collection

28

I have never started a collection with so many questions in front of me and so many mixed feelings about the present and the future. Surely no one can expect linear answers to the current situation. The world is lost and everyone must try to find some sort of sense (and possible order) in it. How can one define and pretend to give answers to a reality that no one understands or fully comprehends? How can one draw conclusions from a situation that is far from ending and in which the consequences are impossible to grasp? The world is ill, the world is bleeding, but it is still alive. And, as long as there is life there is hope. An optimistic answer must come with a certain degree of pragmatism. So, where do we go from here? How do we move on? How can we help people? make them dream? give them hope and at the same time facilitate their lives. The references, ideas and concepts of this collection are as eclectic, varied and contrasted as the states of mind, that I went through since the beginning of the pandemic. Dichotomies have never been so visibly contrasted and harsh. The world is crying, so are the flowers in all the prints we have developed for the collection. Archival Kenzo poppies and hortensias were given a digital crying effect. From flowers the primal feeling of protection and cocooning came an ode to the bees, the regulators of the planet.

Now, more than ever we are overwhelmed by a sense of urgency to take care and protect our world. Bees and the beekeepers with their mesmerizing clothings and hats that echo so strongly the fragility and distance imposed and needed today. Going places‌ a mirage of dreams, hope, excitement and discovery. We will not give that up. Clothes that transform themselves to adapt to all situations. The fully covered and protected becomes fragile and naked, daring danger and rules. Kenzo has always been about fun, celebration and optimism. These cravings were pure fuel in the creative process. We wanted to put that raw, daring and curious energy into the clothes and into everything related to the collection. Almost like an optimistic version of punk. It is time to look at things differently and from new perspectives. Time to pull everything appart and put it back together again in a surprising, free and innovative yet meaningful way. Again the dichotomies to portrait a celebration of life that is both joyful / melancholic, high / low, covered / naked, delicate / bold, fearful / optimistic, protection / exposure, accidental / controlled, surprises / pragmatism and stillness / movement. Be caring, Be brave Bee a Tiger Felipe www.theciin.com

MESSIKA BY KATE MOSS:

MESSIKA LAUNCHES LATEST HIGH JEWELRY COLLECTION

36

At the heart of a unique high jewelry collection with two strong, spirited women. Using one simple word - freedom - the fashion icon and the diamond jewelry designer have collaborated with spontaneity and sincerity. By each harnessing the other’s art, they have been able to express the different facets of their singular personalities through unbridled creativity. Together, they have created a collection of high fashion jewelry that is expressively eclectic and defiantly diverse, which pays homage to a woman who has transcended generations and styles. Everything began with a jewelry box. Kate’s. The colour, the oversized designs, inspiration from all over the world, and an art deco feel: a world that was, at first glance, quite removed from Messika jewelry, but ultimately extremely exciting for the designer. Two heads rather than one meant more than one hundred unique pieces of jewelry were imagined. Valérie was unwavering in her belief that the co-designed jewelry should embody both the Maison’s values and Kate’s style. The movement of the stones, the fluidity of the lines, the suppleness of the jewelry, the boldness of the wearer... Together, they found a common language within the mixture of types of gold, various diamond cuts and even the way the precious materials were used. The collection is lively, eclectic and brightly coloured; and most certainly not boring. A daring decision? Probably. But an assured one nonetheless. www.theciin.com

VACHERON CONSTANTIN: HEURES CRÉATIVES HEURE ROMANTIQUE ‘An intimate conversation between the art of jewellery-making and horological expertise’

44

Its looks are chic, its temperament sporty. A symbol of escapism and exploration, the 41 mm Overseas self-winding model, unveiled at the Watches & Wonders Shanghai 2020 exhibition, combines for the first time its sleek silhouette sculpted in pink gold with a blue Overseas dial.

www.theciin.com

The Overseas collection, immediately recognisable by its hexagonal bezel evoking the Maltese cross, continues to explore new aesthetic horizons. Following in the wake of the Overseas perpetual calendar ultra-thin model in pink gold and blue dial launched for Watches & Wonders 2020, the sportiest collection from the Maison is interpreted in a self-winding three-hand version that is as precious as it is sophisticated. Its most striking asset lies in the all-gold theme running from case to bracelet and stylishly enhanced by the iconic Overseas blue.

Sleek and functional style The visual journey begins on the dial, whose intense blue colour accentuates the sporty character of the watch. Its pure surface reveals a world of details, hovering between vibrant and shimmering light effects. The sunburst satin-brushed centre makes a pleasing contrast with the circular satin-finished flange and velvet-finish minute circle. This subtle translucent blue-lacquered composition is punctuated by gold hourmarkers and hands coated in white luminescent material. A date appearing discreetly at 3 o'clock completes the picture. This elegant and functional style makes a perfect match with the pink gold of the 41 mm case, flowing into a bracelet featuring likewise pink gold links inspired by the Maltese cross.

45

Interchangeable bracelet/straps Because an active life involves countless surprises, the Overseas self-winding adapts to every situation by adopting an attitude of versatile elegance. Depending on the occasion, it easily swaps out its gold bracelet for a blue rubber or alligator leather strap thanks to the Overseas line’s signature interchangeability system. The Overseas dual time and pink gold chronograph models can thus be fitted with the new gold bracelet introduced on this model and available in Vacheron Constantin boutiques and points of sale.

The accuracy of a self-winding movement The Overseas self-winding watch relies on the Manufacture 5100 calibre and its comfortable 60-hour power reserve. In addition to its accuracy and reliability, it is graced with refined decorations revealed through the sapphire crystal case-back. A 22K gold oscillating weight adorned with a wind rose rotates on the baseplate graced with a Côtes de Genève motif. A potent symbol, like an invitation to journey…

Although Lebanon may only seem as of recently as a troubled country, with shocking news coming out on a daily basis, it's currently going through one of the most intense periods in its modern history. In these circumstances it's often hard to look at the brighter elements around us. Issues that show incredible progress socially. In these dire times a lot of faces are showing incredi-ble initiative. And among these faces and voices, we can easily say that the majority are women. Women rising up in the world of activism, politics, humanitarian aid, diplomacy, Business and arts.

W

e should take every chance to get to meet these strong new voices, these people that are still driving positive change in the world around them despite the harshness of circumstance and the challenges that literally line their way. Women who are starting to take control of the world around them, driving change in every aspect of life as we know it. Fortunately there are plenty of them around us; and we have a chance now to get to know some of them. A rapidly rising name in fashion in the region, is Dana Malaeb. A 25 year fashion designer, Entrepreneur, educator and curator. Dana lives and breathes fashion and her already incredible experience at such a young age stands to prove it. From multiple runway shows in the most prestig-ious shows in Beirut, to a San Francisco based Fashion retail startup Lemonade Fashion that hopes to change how we think about fashion retail. All the way to teaching fashion to young women from underprivileged backgrounds, passing through styling and supporting the fashion community. There’s nothing that this young fashion tourde-force can’t do. A graduate of NDU Fashion Design department, quickly getting noticed for her Beirut Calligraphed collection which won her the BYFDC Young Designer’s award, Dana did her Mas-ter’s Degree at the University of Rome in Fashion Management.

70

Dana quickly launched her career in fashion design, showcasing three collections on some of the most prestigious fashion events in Lebanon. It didn’t take much for her work to start getting noticed. Her approach to fashion design showed a fresh and unrelenting talent. A masterful story-teller, curated shows that emotionally engaged the audience, going towards her designs from a nar-rative perspective, where it’s not only what looks good, what’s cutting edge, what’s fashionable, but also what needs to be said, what needs to be felt. Her last collection “Rise of Jean D’arc” paid trib-ute to women who fight battles on a daily basis, placing real women warriors on the runway, a can-cer patient, a transgender, showcasing multiple body types and sexual orientations. This showcased the designs in a realistic and empowering emotional narrative where you couldn’t have been inside that hall and not felt. This emotional narrative approach to fashion is quite unique and refreshing to see in such a young designer. This however is not the only place that Dana is trying to tell a story in, or make fashion that’s welcoming, inclusive, healing, and empowering, because she’s trying that out as a Fashion Entrepreneur as well. Lemonade fashion is a curated, made to measure, designer platform, which offers state of the art AI solutions to Fashion retail, making the idea of made to measure fashion on a large scale a possibility. Dana is the co-founder of Lemonade fashion. Recently Lemonade became a San Francisco based company, after winning rounds of startup competitions and getting selected by some of the most prominent startup accelerators and incubators in the world. An impressive journey in and of itself. Dana continues to try to tell a story here. To say that fashion is for all. and what can say this more than creating made to measure fashion that fits you in every way. Having had some of the main input to how the AI determines sizes and measures clients, she’s pretty adamant about fash-ion taking that direction. Another item she feels so strongly about that’s completely present in Lemonade is the element of zero waste fashion, wherein Lemonade does not own any stock what-

soever, as everything is made to order. This approach saves the environment tons and tons of waste every year if implemented on a large scale, all the while giving its clients the perfect fit. A third point she feels very strongly about is the fact that Fashion Retail platforms should support local talent, and local designers and artisans. Offering clients the chance to find unique designs that speaks to them, personalizing and customizing them, all that while being as green as possible. This is what put Dana on our map, that even in all the current circumstances, Fashion still finds a way to give her drive and energize her pursuit. Lemonade is currently doing better than ever before, gaining new markets, finding new partners from industry veterans to fresh talent. Dana is also the creative director, setting the visual and artistic approach to every shoot, and design item. We caught up with her after she just finished with a photoshoot and filming of around 400 items for 50 new international designers from all over the world. As the world goes less and less into gatherings, the market finds itself leaning more towards fashion retail that’s why for Lemonade this is the time to actually showcase what they have. And having someone like this young dynamic woman at the artistic helm can surely guarantee Lemonade has what it needs to go very far. What’s a fashion expert no matter how young or www.theciin.com

experienced without giving back and sharing knowledge. Something Dana does regularly is teach young women from underprivileged back-grounds. Her classes range from fashion illustration, to design, to manufacturing. After having done that it’s often that these students would go on to get supported in to an internship or partici-pating in fashion events to get to know what the domain is all about. It’s really quite impressive to see a young 25 year old act as a seasoned fashion veteran, ace her roles from designer to fashion tech, not to mention the collaborations with celebrities and art-ists, styling them, designing for them and dressing them for red carpets and other occasions. We really can’t wait to see what this powerhouse of a woman will do in the next couple of years, but we’re sure it’s not going to be unnoticed. It is life affirming to see what women in such a turbulent Middle East are capable of, from artistic expression and design innovation all the way to changing some of the world's top industries and bringing positive change wherever they go. Just like Dana will make her imprint in the fashion world, plenty of more women get ready to cement their vision of the world in inspiring and industry changing projects that will surely have an effect on the way we live, consume and think.

DISCOVER VACHERON'S CONSTANTIN'S OVERSEAS SELF-WINDING NOW DRESSED IN PINK GOLD WITH A BLUE DIA A symbol of escapism and exploration, the 41 mm Overseas self-winding model, unveiled at the Watches & Wonders Shanghai 2020 exhibition, combines for the first time its sleek silhouette sculpted in pink gold with a blue Overseas dial.

72

This elegant and functional style makes a perfect match with the pink gold of the 41 mm case, flowing into a bracelet featuring likewise pink gold links inspired by the Maltese cross. www.theciin.com

Trends of a Feather Flock Together Jacquie Aiche jewelry A woman’s natural beauty can be illuminated with the right piece of jewellery

80

When touching down in California, it isn't uncommon to witness the likes of the A-List set strolling the streets of LA adorned in Jacquie Aiche designs - Alessandra Ambrosio, Emily Ratajkowski, Chanel Iman, Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner, Shanina Shaik and Rihanna are but a few of the “big names” in the brand's tribe. Created from 14k solid gold, genuine diamonds and gemstones, this exquisite jewellery label is inspired by Founder and Designer Jacquie Aiche, who blends her Egyptian Native American heritage into the brand's creations. Designed for the rebellious woman who lives for ‘diamond details and sensual layers’, each adornment is intended to bring ‘beauty and positive energy’ to its beholder. Working directly with miners to hand select each and every precious stone embellishing her original pieces, the craftsmanship of Aiche's yearly collections often depends on what ‘mother nature’ has uniquely delivered. Designed and handcrafted in Aiche's Los Angeles studio, the brand continues to be shaped by its founding philosophy of "spreading positive energy, every day". Crediting the brand's distinct style to the unique tapestry of Aiche's blended cultural background, the designer says she channels her ethnic roots through the sacred aesthetic of her full range of pieces, including necklaces, earrings, bracelets, rings, body jewellery and anklets. "My Native American heritage pulls me towards turquoise, fossils and precious gemstones, while my Egyptian roots influence the use of Middle Eastern nuances such as hammered gold, goddess imagery and amulet pieces." 'Created for those who adore to be adorned, lovers of precious

stones, believers in the energy of minerals, and women who live for their diamond details and sensual layers', the brand's growing list of Hollywood converts speaks for itself. In 2011, Aiche designed a one off bespoke engagement ring for thenfiance of John Legend, Chrissy Teigen. Further, Rihanna was such a huge fan of Aiche’s designs that she even collaborated with the brand to launch a line of jewellery inspired body art in 2015. Aiche first launched the brand over a decade ago after a lifelong fascination with the healing power of stones, fuelled also by personal frustrations toward the limited styles of fine jewellery available on the market at that time. A far cry from her childhood days of painting and gifting stones to friends and family, Aiche has since translated creative expression through stones into an internationally acclaimed fine jewellery label adorned by the celebrities and VIPs alike. Aiche says she believes a woman’s natural beauty can be illuminated with the right piece of jewellery, and that will always be her mission, “I want to create pieces that will make every woman look and feel uniquely beautiful. Traditional, classical jewellery is amazing, but it’s just not me. I’ve always had a very wild and spiritual nature. I think that rebellious spirit to constantly shake things up is what differentiates me as a designer. I create pieces for those who adore to be adorned, lovers of precious stones, believers in the energy of minerals.” The jewellery can be bought online at www.jacquieaiche.com and in over 40 prestigious retailers across the world. BOTTEGA VENETA FALL 2020 EYEWEAR COLLECTION Evolving the House codes, the tension between tradition and modernity informs the new Bottega Veneta Fall 2020 Eyewear collection. The ORIGINAL runway styles feature bold volumes with faceted and rubberized effects, enriched with the iconic ribbon - an emblem of pure self-confidence. Rendered with a polished metallic finish, this signature three-dimensional motif distinguishes the sharp acetate frames fused with timeless shades, vibrant colours and iconic Intrecciato. The triangle is introduced for the first time in eyewear, evoked through minimal profiles and open cuts - symbols of sensuality. Refined frames switch between all-over mirrored finishes and flash rainbow lenses reflecting lightness and selfexpression. The same vitality inspires a masculine sunglass design with a subversive bridge and new flat temples.

LES BENJAMINS reveals 100% Organic Collection

110

Made out of 100% organic cotton, LES BENJAMINS unveils a new Essentials collection for the Fall/Winter 2020 season. In this collection, sustainably sourced cotton was spun into conscious threads that carry zero pesticides, fertilizers or any other toxic chemicals generally used to grow cotton plants. This is why organic cotton can degrade 95% more than traditional polyester with 234 days only and can continue to degrade in nature over time. Knowing that the production of organic cotton consumes 31% less energy than regular cotton, LES BENJAMINS uses it to create an entire line which spans across 5 categories: sweatpants, sweatshirts, tees, hoodies and zipped hoodies. Today, organic cotton represents less than %1 of the global cotton production market, and LES BENJAMINS Fall/Winter 2020 Essentials Collection represents this minority. The collection offers 12 colors which include light grey, light blue, light green, light pink, beige, Terra, green, grey, brown, navy, black and bone white. The LES BENJAMINS Fall/Winter 2020 Essentials Collection will be kicked off by launching pieces in light blue, light pink and light green, and the rest of the colors to follow throughout the season.

HOMEGROWN LUXURY SWIMWEAR LABEL LAUNCHES FIRST COLLECTION Arnie Swim- a homegrown swimwear label that was lovingly created in Dubai by founder Ruby Rose Korver, launches a stunning inaugural collection that embodies acceptance, fearlessness, and vibrancy. Ruby Rose, the creative force behind Arnie Swim, hails from the Gold Coast, Australia- where the beach is simply a way of life. She brings her passion project to life in an ode to her late father- Arnie, who would have backed her all the way! Arnie Swim has always been a dream, imagined on the golden Australian beaches and coming to fruition in the Middle East where the beach days never have to end. With recent events causing many of us to stop, take stock and reflect, Ruby Rose decided now was the time to be brave and bring her dream to life, with her father running through every fiber of Arnie Swim. Inspired by the landscape of the UAE and the women of the globe, a collection was born that fuses heart, soul, sand, and sea. Ruby Rose reflects “Growing up on the Gold Coast, I was born with an inherent love of the ocean and its ability to ground

me within an instant of being in its presence. This sentiment has stayed with me while my journey has taken me to Dubai. I followed my heart and made the move to the UAE four years ago- a country that has undoubtedly shaped the Arnie Swim concept and given me the opportunity to share it with the world. The memory of my darling father runs through the veins of this brand, he was my biggest supporter with an incredible zest for life. I really hope that every Arnie Swim customer feels this when they don one of our handcrafted pieces.” The launch collection features pieces that are each named after a family member and are entirely handcrafted in the UAE, consisting of a luxurious array of bikinis and one pieces, in five stunning earthy tones; as well as the ‘Luxe Linen’ range which is made entirely of 100% Linen and comes in two styles and colourways. The seamless swimwear pieces have been thoughtfully created to flatter and compliment all body shapes, ranging from sizes XS to L. Each piece is incredibly versatile; the one pieces can also be worn as body suits and the tops and bottoms can be mixed and matched, given that the hues meld mellifluously. The ultra soft material is sourced from the UK and speaks to the luxe positioning of Arnie Swim - feeling much like a second skin.

The client, who has already carried out other projects with the agency, wanted a contemporary, unprecedented, and striking proposal. He asked for a strong and pure signature of the Agency’s architectural style. And thus, the kiosks on the roofs, these open volumes tore from the agreed space, are born and gives the master-bedroom a spectacular view on the chain of Mt Blanc, a luminous escape. The whole was devised taking particular care in framing the view, to isolate themselves from the road while ensuring easy access and good relations with the neighborhood. The property boundaries brought its share of technical challenges with the difficulties inherent to the holding of the land during the first phases of the work. In addition, the connections between the kiosks and the roof required expertise and ingenuity to guarantee water tightness and good insulation. “Belles Echappées” includes wellness areas, such as a sauna, a hammam, spas, all powered by geothermal energy to reduce energy consumption. The chalets were built on the basis of a concrete frame, dressed in wood and metal, allowing to integrate the responses to seismic constraints. THE TREASURED ISLANDS OF THE SOUTH PACIFIC 134

From powder soft beaches, to warm tropical seas, colourful coral reefs alive with marine life. The rugged, lush interiors reveal endless wildlife, waterfalls and hiking trails. The islands of Samoa are the true heart of Polynesia. Ten islands of stunning wild beauty, Samoa is a paradise waiting to be explored.

www.samoa.travel October, October,2020 2020

136

As a small island nation, featuring various landscapes from volcanic mountains to golden beaches and crystal waters, Samoa’s ecosystems are very diverse. The combination of tropical climate and fertile soil make Samoa the perfect breeding ground for rainforests and other lush landscapes, alive with native wildlife, like skinks, flying foxes, geckos, many types of birds as well as unique flora. It is therefore no surprise that eco-tourism and sustainability have become a massive priority for the South Pacific islands in recent years, with Samoa being a regional leader in sustainable tourism interventions. Samoa’s capital, Apia, is home to the Pacific Climate Change Centre, which serves as a space to deliver climate change development research and programmes. With 50% of the centre’s energy being driven by solar power, and various water-saving technologies, the building hopes to be running completely on renewable energy in the future. Local businesses are encouraged to follow the Sustainability Charter, to help contribute to community well-being, economic development and environmental conservation across the nation. With climate issues affecting Samoan and other Pacific Island economic sectors as well as citizens’ well-being, the Pacific islands took part in the United Nations’ Climate Change Conference (COP 25) held in Madrid last December. The event discussed the extent in which Parties in the Paris Agreement meet the 1.5°C global warming target. www.theciin.com

137

Future visitors to Samoa have the choice of staying in a wide range of eco-friendly accommodation, from traditional wooden beach fales and self-catering bungalows/villas to sustainable luxury hotels and surf resorts. On these “Treasured Islands of the South Pacific, sustainable tourism has been in place for many years; with the majority of the resorts contributing towards the local economy by paying a tax to the neighbouring village(s) who own the land, employing their inhabitants to run the business and sourcing food from the local farmers and fishermen.

What To Do... Grand Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II

Milan Cathedral

As you walk into the Grand Gallery, you might think you were stood inside the entrance hall to an opera house or palace – Not a shopping mall. But this is essentially what the Galleria is – An extremely opulent and extravagant indoor shopping area. Created in 1877, it stands as one of the oldest shopping malls in the world and was designed by Guiseppe Mengoni.

Milan Cathedral is a truly monumental building and is famed for its sublime architecture and took over 600 years to complete.

Milan Archaeology Museum

Castello Sforzesco

Dedicated to the history of ancient Milan, this museum is truly insightful and gives you a glimpse of a time long past. Located in the Chiesa di San Maurizio al Monastero Maggiore, the first part of the museum details the history of ancient Mediolanum, whilst the second part located in the basement has a selection of artwork and sculptures. Included in the extensive collection are various archaeological remains, theatrical masks, pottery, and armour.

This 15th century castle has a central location in Milan and is set in extensive grounds and gardens. Created in 1370, the original design has been modified and added too greatly but still retains its elegance and status of power. At the front of the castle stands an immense brick wall lined with battlements and frame by a central guard tower.

Located in the centre of Milan in the self-named Piazza del Duomo, the cathedral was constructed in 1386 but not officially completed until 1965! With an Italian Gothic style, the front façade of the cathedral is truly magnificent and is crowned with countless towers, statues and decoration.
