Our Outreach and Charity Fundraising shone this term, with several incredible events raising money for a range of amazing causes.

After the tragic news of Brianna Ghey’s death, the Igloo’s weekly pub quiz on the 5th March teamed up with Welfare and the LGBTQ+ Society to dedicate the evening to her memory and Trans awareness. The quiz contained a dedicated round containing questions aiming to educate about Trans history, lives and rights. Participants of the quiz were asked for a small entry fee to be donated to Brianna Ghey’s memorial fund, which raised £57.50.

John Snow Music Society held it’s first ‘Live at the Igloo’ Music Night on the 9th March, featuring bands and artists such as: Tom Bull, Rosary, Glomper, Hyphae, Moonstag, Ivies, Grass Fed Salmon and Take 800. The range of music brought such a lively atmosphere to the Igloo and invited students of all Colleges to join in appreciating the musical talent the acts had to offer. The College Family Buffet held to mark University Mental Health Day beforehand meant we had students from all year groups in College for the evening which was great to see.

Throughout the night, raffle tickets were on sale to raise money for the Turkey Syria Earthquake Appeal. A variety of prizes were up for grabs, which helped us to raise a grand total of £322! A huge thank you to Leah Fraser and the John Snow Music Society for hosting the event, and Lottie Keyse for jumping in to conduct the raffle.

On the 15th March, Dr John Snow turned 210 years old which necessitated the annual celebrations held in College, consisting of the ceremonial cake, enough cupcakes to go around, and decorations to mark his birthday. It may seem odd singing happy birthday to a 210 year old dead man, however this tradition has become deeply engrained in our College calendar. In memory of Dr John Snow’s work preventing the spread of Cholera through contaminated water, a Vintage Stash sale was held with all money raised going to WaterAid. We sold lots of
