JCR President's Message
And just like that, we’ve made it through another term! While things were a little quieter this term due to the onslaught of summatives and deadlines for our students, that certainly didn’t stop us from keeping busy in the JCR.

As you’ll be able to read about in the pieces featured in this term’s Newsletter, our committee and student groups managed to pull off so many amazing events, trips and fundraisers to ensure that there was always some sort of activity to serve as a break (or distraction) from academics. From our biggest events of the term, the Performing Arts Charity Showcase and Historical Trip to York, to the wider activities such as Fun Welfare Wednesdays, International Women’s Day campaign, Raffles, Music Nights, College Family Buffets, the weekly activities of our amazingly active Sports and Societies, Bar Events, and a Birthday Party for a 210 year old man, there was never a dull day in John Snow this term.
As well as the events outlined in these individual pieces, we kicked off the year with our Refreshers weekend, featuring the big night in and big night out. We held an evening of bands in the Igloo to bring people of all years back together after the holidays, followed by a night in Newcastle to broaden our horizons of what the North East’s nightlife has to offer. Our final two formals of the year did not disappoint; Max’s ceremonial procession of the haggis at the Burns Night formal was not to be missed. Our committee also had the chance to attend the annual Inter Exec formal at Hatfield, where we had the chance to show all the other college’s who’s best. As well as continuing with their regular sessions, our Sports and Societies gathered for the yearly Sports and Socs team photos which will be displayed in College and kept in the archives for years to come.
The term concluded with our Post Offer Open Days, which ran so smoothly thanks to our wonderful reps. It seems fitting to end the term by meeting some of the future students who will continue to make our college community what it is.
Once again, I’d like to extend my thanks to the JCR Committee for being the operational cogs behind the day to day running of the JCR. With only one term left in post, I’m confident that we will make Summer Term our best yet, with so many of our biggest events already in the works, before we hand over to the incredibly capable newly elected committee headed up by Ella. Winter Congregation
5th and 6th January 2023 saw the Winter Congregation for several of our John Snow students across all four Faculties.

Despite the cold weather, our new Graduates enjoyed their special day.
Congratulations to all!
Post Offer Visit Days
The University’s Post Offer Visit Days on 15th February, 20th and 21st March saw many of our 2023-24 potential students come to visit.
They and their families were very impressed with our student accommodation, facilities in the Hub and the enthusiasm and friendliness shown by all of our John Snow Ambassadors.
Many thanks to all involved in making the day a success. Pre App Open Days will be held on 16th and 17th June and 15th and 16th September 2023.
