Message
Dear Members,
Happy Holidays! By the time you read this, we would have just concluded the 43rd Annual General Meeting of the Club. My sincere thanks to all members who attended, and a special note of appreciation to the Main Committee members who served alongside me this financial year. Your time, effort, and dedication in driving meaningful change have been invaluable.
One of the biggest achievements of the Club this year has been the redevelopment of the Sports Centre, including the refreshed SCORES, gym, and changing rooms. The space now exudes new energy, and the feedback from members has been overwhelmingly positive. Other major milestones were being recognised with two awards namely Expat living Top 5 Best Social Clubs and the Gold Award in Heney Kids Love Local for Best Family Club. Our continued efforts in sustainability which saw further major collections in members re-cycling efforts and our growing Club Events calendar.
It was also a huge year for membership as our successful SG60 membership campaign welcomed 328 new principal members, bringing fresh energy and vibrancy to our Club community. A very warm welcome to all who have joined us recently!
I saw many new faces at the tree lighting ceremony, thank you for joining me to start this amazing festive season. Festive season at the Club is always one that I look forward to as we celebrate yet another successful year in our personal life, work life and family life. Whether you visited a new city, got a new job, or even tried out a new sport, every milestone is a worth celebration as we look back on the year.
I look forward to seeing you at the Charity Ball, and on behalf of the Club, a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you!

GM’s Message
Dear Members,
November was truly a month to remember, filled with proud moments and meaningful experiences for our Club community.
One of the highlights was catering for His Majesty King Charles III’s birthday celebration at Eden Hall, attended by Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal, Princess Anne. Our team delivered an exceptional dining experience featuring British signature dishes, paired with impeccable service a moment that showcased the very best of The British Club.
We were also honoured to participate in this year’s Toy Buffet at ITE College Central, led by the initiative of our Housekeeping Manager, Asa. This heartwarming carnival brought joy to underprivileged children through games, delicious food, and the opportunity to choose and take-home toys. It was a privilege to meet the Guest of Honour, Mr. Eric Chua, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Law and the Ministry of Social and Family Development, as well as Mr. Robin C. Lee, CEO of Food from the Heart.
On behalf of The British Club Singapore, I was proud to receive a Certificate of Appreciation from Commander Cheong Chi Ming of the Singapore Police Force , recognising our contribution to the Safety and Security Watch Group 2025
Our Halloween Nights were a resounding success, with creative costumes and a fantastic atmosphere, followed by a fully booked Guy Fawkes Night, which concluded the weekend with a spectacular fireworks display. Thank you to all members who joined us for these memorable celebrations.
Congratulations to our Employees of the Month the Heart of the Club Radah and the Face of the Club Mia for their outstanding dedication and hard work.
Looking ahead, December promises to be an exciting festive season at the Club. Mark your calendars for these standout events:
• Family Christmas Party – 13th December
• Christmas Eve & Christmas Day – Festivities across all areas of the Club
• New Year’s Eve Dinner at Mountbatten and Countdown at Windsor Arms
I look forward to celebrating this joyful season with you at the Club. Let’s make December unforgettable!

I am an adventurer. I care about having fun and trying new ways to play. I believe playing with friends makes school better.
“I
like going outside every day at school. There are lots of playgrounds and places to play. I like climbing and swinging, but the best part is playing with my friends. The playground is my favourite because I can run, make things up, and have fun with everyone.”
This is my Dulwich story.

MEMBER IN THE SPOTLIGHT
Meet Kyle Ravin, a professional emcee, weekend radio host, and proud new member of The British Club. Together with his wife Natasha and daughter Nicolette, Kyle shares a glimpse into his family life, favourite Club spots, and what makes the Club feel like home.
Tell us a bit about yourself and your family — and what inspired you to join The British Club?
I’m Kyle Ravin, and together with my wife Natasha and daughter Nicolette, we want to say hi to The British Club family. My first visit to The British Club was about ten years ago, when I was hired to host a private corporate event held on site. There was something truly unique and inviting about the vibe on site, and I recall having a wonderful experience with the then event manager from the Club assisting with the event. I always had a very positive impression of the Club and its facilities.
Fast forward to when I married my wife and had a child — the need for a place to relax, wind down, and chill came about. We needed a place that catered to each of our individual needs. At that time, in early 2025, our good friends who are also members of the Club recommended hanging out there and mentioned the SG60 signup promotion as well. All the stars aligned, and we jumped right in. It didn’t take much for Warren (who was managing our Club tour before signing up) to convince us that this was the ideal place for our family.
If you could only pick one dish or drink from the Club’s menu to have forever?
Easy. Slowcooked Beef and Guiness Pie at Windsor Arms paired with scotch eggs, washed down with an ice cold tapped Kilkenny.
Do you have a favourite spot or activity here that you would recommend to new members?
One huge factor for us when it comes to family time is how much positive mental stimulation our daughter gets when we go out. We don’t want to resort to screen time for our toddler, and one of the biggest blessings about the Club is having the Mike Gorrie Play Centre. It’s nice to have a proper and safe place for our daughter to explore, socialise with other kids, and of course, play. We’ve spent hours rotating between my wife and me being chaperones in the room while the other spouse enjoys the view, breeze, and a brewski.
In time, when our toddler is a little older, we’ll probably be spending more time by the poolside too. Every trip to The British Club also ends with my indulgent purchase of snacks from the Windsor Shop. Where else can one find rare, imported British goodies?
P.S. Smith’s Bacon Flavour Fries make the best driving snacks — those are hard to come by!
When you are not at The British Club, where can we find you spending your free time?
My wife Natasha and I both have hectic schedules. Any free time is honestly spent as a family at the British Club or out of town, exploring the streets of Asia, climbing the hills of Italy or lounging in a farm down under.
Finally, what’s something interesting or surprising about you that fellow members might not know?
I’ve been a professional emcee hosting corporate events and gala dinners for the past 15 years. For fun, I play the didgeridoo, listen to heaps of heavy metal and helm the weekend breakfast show on ONEFM 91.3

Of The Year 2026 Young Musician NLCS (Singapore)
Exceptional Opportunities Await Our Young Musicians
Almost 13 million people claim the State Pension in the UK, and I’m sure the annual increases in recent years plus the expected increase of 4.7% in April 2026 will be pleasing to many.
The new State Pension (applicable to those who started claiming post 2016), will bring the sum per annum to around GBP12,534.60 from April 2026.* This is only GBP35 below the personal allowance (zero rate income tax band) and raises the question if pensioners claiming the State Pension will start paying income tax on this sum should payments exceed the personal allowance.
I believe there is a more important question. How sustainable is the current system?
The current State Pension landscape
The State Pension is reported to make up around 42% of welfare spend in the UK** and you would expect this would be increasing with time based on the annual increments.
The State Pension is predominantly funded from the UK working population, which comes to around 34 million people. That means for each person claiming the State Pension there are 2.6 people working, and data shows the number of claimants for the State Pension are rising while the working population is reducing.***
The UK isn’t alone in its struggle with a State Pension type system. Demographic pressures
(an ageing population) have been compounding issues for similar schemes elsewhere in the world.
In 2024 Bloomberg reported that Korea’s national pension fund would run out of money by 2056 unless there were urgent reforms.
In 2019 The Chinese Academy of Sciences stated ‘as the worker-to-retiree ratio declines, the National Social Security Fund (NSSF), established in 2000 to finance China’s future pension obligations, would likely be depleted by 2035’.****
These comments indicate that as populations age, there will be growing pressure on State Pension systems.
Pension salaries across the globe
I also looked at data showing the gross replacement rate for the G7 countries which was published by Fidelity. This is the amount of the average working salary covered by the State Pension.
Italy’s system is very generous with 76% of the average working salary covered. The UK represents 22%, which is the lowest in the G7 with Government spending on old age pensions also the lowest.***** The UK is clearly the least generous and requires the lowest percentage of government funding amongst this group, which begs the question how other countries are managing and will manage over time.
In July the UK Government launched a third
review of the State Pension Age (SPA) with the intent of confirming what future rises need to take place. The existing plan is to increase the SPA from 66 to 67 between 2026 and 2028, and then to 68 between 2044 and 2046.
The State Pension in the UK increases each year in line with the triple lock which is based on a standard increase, wage growth or inflation. There is a growing concern in the UK about the cost of maintaining the triple lock in an ageing population. According to Pensions Age, the cost of the State Pension is expected to climb from around 5% of GDP today to 7.7% by the 2070s, even as life-expectancy improvements have slowed.******
An aging population
The evidence suggests pressure on UK State Pension provision will increase over time as the population ages, which would increase the likelihood of further changes to the system.
Planning your retirement should encompass a broad range of considerations. If the State Pension changes considerably, it will increase individual’s reliance on other assets for generating income and it is important to plan for this.
Ensuring your financial affairs are flexible and can be adjusted without penalties being imposed will become increasingly important.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions regarding your pension planning.
The British Club proudly presents the upcoming refurbishment of the Stuart Room and The Elizabeth Suite — a project that celebrates the Club’s heritage while embracing modern sophistication.

“A seamless blend of heritage and modernity — refined, flexible, and distinctly British.”
Colonial Elegance, Modern Comfort
Inspired by Singapore’s black-and-white colonial homes, the addition of plantation shutters introduces tropical elegance and soft natural light. These adjustable shutters also offer privacy and a beautiful frame for the surrounding greenery.

If you’ve ever ordered a dish from SCORES and found yourself thinking, “Wow, that was good” — chances are, it came from the hands of Chef Ah Zhi. A familiar face at the Club, Ah Zhi has played a vital role in shaping the identity of SCORES’ kitchen since its renovation. In this quickfire Q&A, we take a peek behind the pass to learn more about his journey, inspirations, and what dishes you must try this month.
Get to Know Chef Ah Zhi: SCORES’ Culinary Mainstay
How did your culinary journey begin — was it always a passion, or something you grew into?
It all started when I helped my mum chop and peel vegetables in the kitchen as a child. I made my first meal—pancakes and fruit salad—when I was just six years old. I really enjoyed the process of cooking, and it’s been my passion ever since.
You’ve worked in all the Club’s dining outlets — which kitchen has left the biggest impression on you, and why?
I was given the opportunity to lead the kitchen at SCORES after its renovation, and the pre-opening and grand opening periods left the biggest impression on me. Despite the tight timeline, the way the kitchen team came together to support one another was truly remarkable. It was a powerful reminder of the strength of teamwork under pressure, and it’s an experience I’ll always remember.
Do you have a “signature dish” that best represents your culinary style?
I put my signature on every dish served at SCORES. My cooking style is fresh, minimalistic, and as local as possible when it comes to ingredients. I believe each component should be treated with thought and respect — letting the natural flavours shine through without overcomplicating the dish.
We’ve seen exciting Japanese fusion dishes popping up in SCORES’ monthly specials— what inspired this direction?
I’m a big fan of Nobu, and his dishes have been a huge source of inspiration for me. We hadn’t explored Japanese-inspired cuisine at the Club before, so I thought—why not give it a shot? And guess what? We sold over 500 bowls of the aburi salmon in just one month.
When you’re not in the kitchen, how do you like to unwind?
I try to spend more time with my family, take walks with my dogs, and unwind by reading cookbooks.
Lastly, if you could recommend one must-try dish from the SCORES’ monthly specials this month, what would it be?
It’s hard to pick just one, so I must name two! Both the Thit Heo Nuong Xa and the Bun Thit Nuong from our December specials are absolute must-tries.
Dinner & Dance 2025: Crazy Olympics
Monday, 17th November
The theme for the Annual Staff Dinner & Dance 2025 was Crazy Olympics! Our General Manager, Tee, proudly carried the Olympic torch from The British Club to Paradox Singapore Merchant Court, where he lit the cauldron to officially kick off our staff party.

Long Service Award 2025
Celebrating 30 Years of Dedication
This year, we proudly honoured our Playroom Assistant, Betty, with the 30-Year Long Service Award, making her the only recipient to reach this milestone in 2025. Betty first joined the Club in March 1995 as a Jackpot Supervisor, faithfully serving members for over two decades until the Jackpot Room ceased operations in April 2018. She then transitioned to the Activities & Events team, where she continues to contribute her dedication, calm presence, and steadfast reliability on a part-time basis.
The Future Is Equal: Women Shaping Sustainable Development
By Natasha Garcha, member of the Club since August, 2025
Recent Nobel Prize recognitions highlight the vital roles women play in driving peace, climate justice, and scientific progress. Across boardrooms, farms, labs, and communities, women leaders are rising—and their leadership is not only about SDG 5 (Gender Equality); it’s a catalyst for progress across all 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Here’s how:
• SDG 1 (No Poverty): Closing the gender earnings gap could unlock US$160 trillion in human capital.
• SDG 2 (Zero Hunger): Equal farming access boosts yields by up to 30% and reduces hunger.
• SDG 3 (Health): Women are 70% of the global care workforce—empowering them strengthens systems.
• SDG 4 (Education): Each year of girls’ schooling boosts earnings by 20%.
• SDG 6 (Water): Women invest more in clean water infrastructure when empowered.
• SDG 7 (Energy): Clean cooking protects women’s health, yet they remain underrepresented in renewables.
• SDGs 8–9 (Work & Innovation): More women in the workforce and in management boosts GDP and innovation.
• SDG 11 (Cities): Female-led councils invest more in safe, resilient infrastructure.
• SDG 12–13 (Sustainability & Climate): Women on boards enhance environmental oversight; more women in parliaments, stronger climate action.
• SDG 16 (Peace): Peace agreements with women’s input last longer.
• SDG 17 (Partnerships): Directing funds to women-led groups makes every dollar count.
When women have equal voice, rights, and resources, societies become more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable.

The British Club’s Sustainability Committee is proud to reflect this momentum. We warmly welcome more women and allies to join us. BARRACUDAS
Barracudas Make a Splash in 2025!
By Lisa Koh, Member of the Club since October, 2020
And Danya Fox Pemberton, Member of the Club since February, 2017
What an incredible way to close out 2025 for the Barracudas! As we gear up for our End of Season Awards Night and the announcement of our new Team Captains, we’d like to extend a huge thank you to our amazing coaches, Pierre and Julian, for another outstanding year in the pool.
November was a special month as we hosted our very first Barracudas Movie Night — an evening that brought together 41 swimmers and their siblings, raising an impressive $410 for our chosen charity. The parents had a wonderful time too, with 24 of them finally catching up over dinner and drinks.

Beyond the Pitch: BCFC Masters of the Social League
By James Mclhagga, Member since March, 2022
While goals and tackles grab the headlines, grassroots football thrives on what happens after the final whistle. This quarter, the British Club Football Section proved that our social game is just as strong as our on-pitch performance.
A Season of Flair and Fellowship
We kicked things off with Darts Night 1 – nearly 20 members, including our invaluable WAGs, joined us for free-flow on St. Patrick’s Day. The night ended with a lively “stroll” through Boat Quay and an impromptu afterparty, where camaraderie was in full flow.
Next up was Cinco de Mayo at LAVO – costumes, cocktails, and confusion about what exactly we wore. It didn’t matter; the spirit was there. Darts Night 2 followed with two new recruits joining the fray. Beverage-holding skills were put to the test, and the night wrapped at the Penny Black with creamy pints all around.
Post-Match Pioneers
A quiet but growing tradition is the post-match session at the Club bar. What began with a core few now sees three-quarters of the team (plus kids) turning up regularly. While away matches mean visiting local spots, we save Scores—our Club’s Sports Bar— for major events like January’s Annual Awards Night, where trophies and tall tales deserve a home advantage.
One highlight? A six-hour session where 13 towers were conquered. The bar staff were so impressed they threw in food on the house. That’s team spirit in action.
What’s Next
Poker Night is already attracting strong interest, and the Christmas Long Lunch in December promises more good times ahead. The Social Committee is running a tight midfield, ensuring BCFC isn’t just about results—it’s about building a brilliant, welcoming community.
New to the Club? We’ve run a thriving Football Section for nearly 20 years, with 5-, 7-, and 11-a-side games for ages 16 to 67+. Interested? Email football@britishclub.org.sg or speak to the SRC staff. We’d love to welcome you!

PICKLEBALL Rising to the Challenge: BC Pickleball’s Breakout Season

Captain’s Corner
The past two months have been a busy period for the BC Pickleball team. On 18 October, the Section wrapped up its participation in the inaugural Inter-Club Pickleball League (ICPL) at NUSS Kent Ridge Guild House. This new league brought together eight major clubs across Singapore for several weeks of grueling, head-to-head round-robin competition.
It was our Section’s first taste of competitive league pickleball—and while we didn’t take the overall title, we certainly held our own against some of the top pickleball clubs in the nation. Backed by strong performances from veteran players, the team also showed grit, youth, and a “never give up” attitude that earned us the respect of fellow clubs.
Season highlights included wins from Aneetha Vine & Duncan Micallef and Kieron Karthigasu & Keane Hing, alongside 12 hard-fought draws by other pairings—many of which came in closely contested matches against Warren Country Club, the Eurasian Association, and the Singapore Recreation Club (the latter two placed 2nd and 3rd overall).
The league concluded with a lively Gala Dinner hosted by the National University of Singapore Society, where teams came together off the court to celebrate the season’s successes.
As if one league weren’t enough, the team is now deep into competition in the Lion City League—proving once again their passion and commitment to the sport.
A Word from our Convenor
I’d like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the Committee members for their dedication in supporting this rapidly growing section. To all league participants and members—thank you for making this community so close-knit, competitive, and enjoyable. We look forward to reaching new heights in 2026!

Rallying Aces: A Strong Season for the Tennis Section
By Louise Gladstone, Member of the Club since August, 2015
JTTL Teams
Our British Club JTTL teams are off to a fantastic start this season! With our Under-12 and Under-14 teams currently sitting at the top of their tables, the hard work on and off the court is clearly paying off. The players are finding their rhythm, sharpening their skills, and building great partnerships that show real promise for the rest of the season.
The Under-10s are also showing wonderful enthusiasm each week — gaining valuable match experience and learning what it means to compete as a team. Across all age groups, there’s a growing sense of team spirit, camaraderie, and pride in representing The British Club.
It’s been inspiring to see our young players supporting one another, celebrating victories together, and pushing through challenges as a united team. The season’s far from over, but the energy and determination from every player suggest it’s going to be an exciting finish!
Ladies’ Tennis
Ladies’ tennis at the Club is thriving! We’re delighted to welcome many new section members who are enjoying our ladies’ social sessions and the Ladies’ Doubles Challenge.
Our WITS teams are wrapping up another hard-fought and successful season. If you’d like to join one of our competitive WITS teams or take part in the Ladies’ Doubles Challenge, we’d love to hear from you! For more information, please contact tennis@britishclub.org.sg
STA Interclub Doubles League
This year, The British Club entered four strong teams in the STA Interclub Doubles League — competing in the Men’s A, C, and D Grade Divisions, as well as the Ladies’ A Grade. While we didn’t secure any medals this round, our teams demonstrated remarkable resilience and competitive spirit throughout the season. With several impressive victories under our belts, it’s clear that our players showcased not only individual talent but also a strong sense of camaraderie and teamwork.
As we reflect on this season’s achievements, we are optimistic about building on this foundation next year. The depth of skill across our teams points to a bright future, and we encourage interested members to consider joining one of our Interclub Doubles teams. For more information, please reach out to the Tennis Committee at tennis@britishclub.org.sg, or keep an eye on the Tennis Noticeboard down at Scores for updates.
Get moving this holiday season! Join us for quick, fun-filled tennis, squash, and pickleball games designed for giggles, friendly competition, and festive cheer.
