December 2025/ January 2026

During Stoptober, b inspired’s Neighbourhood Support Team were delighted to welcome back Stop Smoking sessions at Gallards Hill The sessions are delivered in partnership with Live Well Leicester, giving local residents another chance to access free, practical help to quit smoking
From now on, Live Well Leicester advisers will be based at b inspired’s Neighbourhood Support Base, Gallards Hill (LE3 1QR) every Monday, offering free, tailored supportincluding nicotine replacement therapies, e-cigarettes, and expert 1-1 advice.
Whether you’re thinking about quitting, have tried before, or want to know your options, the advisers are here to help you find the motivation and tools to succeed.
And if you missed out during Stoptober, it’s not too late; the New Year is the perfect time to make quitting smoking your resolution for 2026. Support is ongoing, so you can still book an appointment or find out about upcoming sessions by calling Live Well Leicester: 0116 454 4000, or by visiting their website.

From 2 January 2026, we will be changing when the Neighbourhood Support Base is open to the public. Our new public opening times will be 9am-5pm, Mon-Thurs, and we will be closed on a Friday.
Our team will continue to deliver the same high-quality services and support on the days that we are open to the public. Thank you for your understanding and continued support as we make this change.

As the temperature drops, b inspired are stepping up to make sure no one in Braunstone faces the cold or goes hungry. Through Utilita Giving’s ‘One Call, That’s All’ (OCTA) project, the Neighbourhood Support Team (NST) are helping local people access vital support - from food and fuel assistance to benefits advice, employment and mental health support.
With rising energy costs, food prices and changes to Universal Credit, many households are feeling the pressure. Thanks to OCTA, residents can reach all our services through one simple call, ensuring they receive the right help at the right time.
The NST has seen an increase in Foodshare and benefit enquiries as winter sets in. Our wellbeing provision has also grown, with new social groups and 1-1 sessions helping people stay connected and supported.
Sally, one of our Support Workers, recently achieved her Level 2 Advice and Guidance Certificate and will begin her Level 3 training after Christmas. This will enable her to provide more specialist, personalised support for residents as she continues to deliver OCTA locally.
In October, Sally and Terry attended the National Energy Action conference, where they learnt new ways to help people save energy and reduce household costs, as well as connecting with other organisations offering valuable community support.
In December, they’ll travel to London to join charities from across the country at a conference celebrating one year of OCTA - a chance to share successes, strengthen partnerships, and plan for the future. They’re particularly looking forward to meeting the Luton teams, who are also delivering OCTA in their community.

If you or someone you know is struggling with the cost of food, heating, or household bills this winter, please get in touch with the NST.

An update on our social groups...

B inspired’s social groups have really taken off. We’ve welcomed some lovely new faces to both Brew & Banter and the Men’s Den. It’s been fantastic to see a wide range of ages joining each session, bringing fresh perspectives and creating a vibrant, supportive atmosphere.
All of the sessions have been great fun, and we were particularly delighted to be joined by Leicester Adult Education for a pottery session - no ghost moments this time, thankfully! Experiences like this and the free trips we’ve been able to offer people, to go to places we wouldn’t normally get the chance to visit, have been a highlight for us all. We’re incredibly grateful to all the venues that have welcomed us with such generosity - the National Space Centre, Leicester Tigers Stadium and Tropical Birdland.
Looking ahead, we’ve got a few exciting ideas brewing (pun absolutely intended!) We’re planning more creative sessions like cartoon drawing and cooking, as well as some relaxed wellbeing chats on managing stress and confidence. And of course, we’ll be throwing in a few surprise trips –because who doesn’t love an excuse for a day out?
“The Men’s Den has really helped me! I struggle with dyspraxia and anxiety, so it’s really hard for me to make friends and do certain activities. I was worried I would get judged, but the staff and group were very kind and accepted me. It has helped me in many ways, such as having a positive mindset and developing my confidence.” - Quote from a Men’s Den member

January can be a tough month, and this years Blue Monday - often called the ‘saddest day of the year’ - falls on the same date. It’s a useful reminder to focus on mental wellbeing, especially during the colder months
The event includes a delicious buffet meal, including curry, with sides and a vegetarian option available, as well as soft drinks and dessert The night will include inspirational, motivational speeches, and plenty of time to relax and meet new people in a warm, alcoholfree environment.
Our recent Wellbeing and Self-Development sessions have been going brilliantly! Each one brings something new, and it’s been inspiring to see people really open up, reflect, and support one another. There’s been a great mix of laughter, deep conversations, and those special ‘lightbulb moments’, where something just clicks - exactly what these sessions are all about.
The event is open to all Braunstone (LE3 1) residents - men and women alike - and is run in support of b inspired’s Men’s Den. Tickets cost £7 per person, or £12 for a man + 1 guest.
Topics like boundaries and self-worth have really struck a chord with people. Many of us forget that saying “no” can be a powerful act of self-care, and it’s been wonderful to see participants start to put that into practice. Sessions on emotional regulation and stress management have also sparked thoughtful discussions - and quite a few ‘I really needed to hear that’ moments!
You can book your place by scanning the QR code below. Please note, there are a limited number of spaces available, which must be booked by Fri 19 Dec.
“I’ve learnt so much about myself. It’s helped me understand my emotions better and how to deal with situations that used to overwhelm me.”
“These sessions have been a real confidence boost - I leave feeling lighter and more positive each time.”
Quotes from session participants

We’re thrilled with how much everyone has gained from taking part, and we’re excited to keep the momentum going. A new block of sessions will begin in the new year, running weekly.
These sessions are all about continuing to build a supportive, empowering community, where everyone can grow, learn, and feel more confident in themselves. We can’t wait to welcome familiar faces - and new ones - when we start again!

As we come to the end of another busy year, b inspired’s Neighbourhood Support Team would like to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has supported us through both the Harvest Festival and Christmas.
Once again, the generosity of our community has been amazing. We’ve received an incredible number of donations from local schools, churches, community groups, and individualsall helping to make sure that no one in Braunstone goes without during the colder months.
Your Harvest donations helped us restock our shelves and support families through autumn, and your Christmas contributions have ensured we can create festive hampers for local residents who need a little extra help at this time of year. Our team and volunteers will be busy distributing these hampers to residents in the coming weeks.
Every tin, packet, and treat donated makes a real difference - and it’s thanks to your kindness and community spirit that Braunstone Foodshare can continue to support local people all year round.
From all of us at b inspired, thank you for your generosity, compassion, and continued support. You’ve truly helped make this a season of giving.
In particular, we would like to thank our Harvest Festival donors:

The NHS in Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland has issued new advice to help you get the right NHS care when you need it quickly and recommends just two simple steps for situations when it isn’t life-threatening.
Step 1: Try to manage the problem yourself or get help from a local pharmacy, NHS 111 online, or the NHS app.
Step 2: If that doesn’t work or if the problem is more serious, contact your GP practice or NHS 111 (when your practice is closed). They will help arrange the appointment at your GP practice or other nearby services, including appointments for the same day if you need it.
Following this advice will help you get care from the right place, with the right health professional, and avoid long waits or trips to walk-in services that might not be suitable.

Let’s be honest “ new year, new me ” puts way too much pressure on everyone
Instead, think “ new year, same me just a little kinder to myself” Focus on realistic changes that make you feel better, not burnt out Try adding one small wellbeing habit a walk, journalling, or simply drinking more water (yes, before the coffee) Tiny steps build lasting change, and the goal is progress, not perfection

The Creative Futures programme, delivered by Voluntary Action Leicester (VAL), with support from b inspired, has made a massive difference to people in Braunstone over the last year Since launching in November 2024, this initiative has helped residents find volunteering, training and employment opportunities - its success is set to continue well into 2026!

In just one year, Creative Futures has supported:
12 people into volunteering
14 people into training
7 people onto courses
11 people into employment

There’s even potential for group employability courses, if enough people express interest.
The adviser can also connect people with other local services for additional support, if needed.
As the New Year approaches, it’s the perfect time to start thinking about your next stepwhether that’s work, training or volunteering The Creative Futures programme could help you turn your resolutions into reality
