2009 BraunstoneHistoryGroupisoneofthree groupssetupaspartofthe‘TransformationFund’ projectforBraunstone.
2010 ‘LearningfromthePast,Buildingforthe Future’exhibitionheldattheBRITECentre. AttendeesincludeVIP’s,suchastheLordMayor. Regularmeetingsofthehistorygroupcontinueto takeplaceattheBRITECentre.
2011 BraunstoneHistoryGroupinvitedtotake partintheBBC’s‘ReelHistory’programmesand mindtheirmarquee(installedinHumberstone Gate)fortheweekend.RadioLeicestervisitthe BRITECentre,foraliverecordingoftheir‘History Live’programme.
2012 BraunstoneHistoryGroupinvitedby LeicesterParksDepttoputaHistoryExhibition displayintheBraunstoneHallStablesMuseum. ParksDeptallowthegrouptoextendStables Museumdisplaysfurther.
2013 BraunstoneHistoryGroupdonatedtwo biblesbyStPetersChurch,previouslyownedby aWinstanleyFamilymember(MrAndrewPoore). MrPoorecontinuestosupportandvisitthe historygroup,donatingmanymoreitemstothe collection.
2025 BraunstoneHistoryGroupmergeswith BraunstoneHeritageArchiveGroup,continuing toberesidentsattheStablesMuseum.

Preloved@45CommunityShop&CafeisanonprofitcommunityshopinBraunstone,runbyand forlocalpeople.
TheneedforacommunityshopinBraunstone wasinitiallyidentifiedbylocalcharitybinspired who,thankstofundingfromPowertoChange andtheNationalLottery,wereabletomakewhat wasinitiallyapipedreamforthelocalcommunity intoareality.WhatbinspiredandPowerto Changedidwastoprovideuswiththeseed fundingandsupportweneededtosetupthe shop,whicheventuallyenabledustobecomea communitybusinessinourownright!
Duringaconsultationbinspireddidwithlocal residents,manypeoplesaidthey’dmostlikea communityshop.Thebuildingthatwaspreviously binspired’sNeighbourhoodSupportBasewas transformed,makingitsuitableforuseasashop. Binspiredalsoprovidedtraining,helpedtosetup thebusinessandfullysupportedusingetting started.
WeopenedinAug2021andhaven’tlookedback since!

Inresponsetotheincreasedcostof living,the OakCentrehasopeneditsdoorstoanyone who’dliketocomealongtoaWarmSpaceand hotlunch.EveryMon,throughoutthewinter,a warmwelcomeisofferedfrom10amandat 12.30pmweserveapipinghotpukkapiewith mash,vegandgravy.
InOct2023,wesignedupwiththeWarm WelcomeCampaign,whosupportover4000 spacesaroundthecountry,witheventsrunby thecommunity,forthecommunity.We’renow enjoyingthe3rdwinterwherewe’veofferedthis hospitality.It’sallbeenmadepossiblebythe generosity,firstlyofvolunteerswhogivetheir timesofreely,butalsomanyothersincluding: OneChurch coveringthecostofhallhireand refreshmentsinitially.However,thisyearwe’ve hadagrantfromlotteryfundingtocoverthecosts. PukkaPies bytheendoftheseasonapprox 1800pieshavebeendonated.
ASDA CommunityChampionregularlypopsin withgoodiestohelpout.
Onarrivalthere’stea,coffee,biscuitsandfruit availabletoenjoyasmuchasyoulike,then peoplesettledowntodoajigsaw,playdarts, dominoesorjustchat.We'vealsodoneflower arranging,Christmascardmakingandarmchair exercises.Butallthatstopsat12.30pmwhen lunchisserved!

BraunstoneParkrunisafreeweeklytimed5k event,whichstartedinSept2010.Participants canrun,jog,walkorvolunteer.
Rob,aSportsDevelopmentOfficer,initiallyset theParkrun upbecauseithitseveralofthe Council'stargetsforphysicalactivityand wellbeing.
AnincreasingnumberofeventshappenintheUK andseveralcountriesoverseasalsohaveParkrun events.It’sevolvedfroma5krunningtimetrialtoa widerhealthandwellbeingmovement,welcoming ages4+andallabilities.Usually,around250 peopletakeparteachweek.
Ifanyonewouldliketogetinvolved,theycan registerforfreeat parkrun.org.uk/braunstone andjustturnuponaSaturdaymorning. We’reanamazing,friendlycommunity,where everyoneismadetofeelwelcomeandmost definitelyhavethat'familyvibe'.
BraunstoneresidentAndy CooperorganisedaChristmas Daymeal,providing30 people,whowouldnormally spendChristmasalone,with ‘fun,foodandcompany’.The eventhappenedattheOak Centreandwasaptlytitled;‘a Christmastoremember’.
Intherunuptoevent,Andy contactedlocalpeopleand communitygroups,aswellas makingapleaviasocial media,forgifts,monetary donationsandvolunteers.
Andyralliedtogethersomeofhisfriends,aswell aslocalpeople,volunteersandcommunity groups,toorganisethedinner,whichtookplace attheOakCentreonChristmasDay Alongwiththemeal,freetransportwasprovided andalloftheguestsleftwithahamper,giftsand amoneyvoucher.Therewasevenavisitfrom themanhimself,Santa!
Thiswasagreatactof kindnessforthelocal community.We’resure thatallofthepeoplewho attendedreally appreciatedit!
