As a devoted cinephile, 2025 has been an exhilarating year marked by global and Indian cinema’s impressive resurgence. From soaring theatre attendance and record-breaking box office results to transformative technological advancements, the industry has proven both resilient and innovative.
At the heart of these developments was CinemaCon 2025 held at Las Vegas. The event underscored a strong push toward immersive technology and diverse storytelling. Samsung took centre stage with the launch of its new Onyx Cinema LED display, promising unmatched picture quality and scalability. And so is GDC with its unbeatable transparent LED screen. Sony Pictures unveiled its upcoming slate, including Danny Boyle’s 28 Years Later (June 20, 2025) and a live-action Legend of Zelda (2027). Universal Pictures showcased Jurassic World Rebirth, M3GAN 2.0, and How to Train Your Dragon , the latter premiering at CinemaCon ahead of its June release. Paramount Pictures surprised audiences with a visit from Tom Cruise promoting Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, while also teasing Edgar Wright’s The Running Man (November 7). Disney wowed attendees with footage from James Gunn’s Superman reboot, notably featuring Krypto the Superdog . India hosted the inaugural of World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES) recently in Mumbai. At WAVES 2025, Shah Rukh Khan advocated for more affordable theatres in smaller towns to improve cinema accessibility and expand viewership, taking cues from China’s screen expansion beyond metros. Aamir Khan criticised the current film business model, arguing that the short window between theatrical and OTT releases discourages cinema attendance and damages the industry—especially in price-sensitive markets like India—by offering films for free shortly after release. Ajay Bijli of PVR INOX echoed similar concerns, stressing that films should first be fully monetised theatrically, then move to pay-per-view, and only later to OTT. He highlighted that rushing to OTT undercuts a film’s value before word of mouth can spread, and called for better management of release windows to ensure industry growth.
A major step toward this vision is the development of an international film city in Noida, led by producer Boney Kapoor. Spanning 1,000 acres, the project includes studios, sound stages, a film institute, post-production units, and a 10,000-seat convention centre. It’s expected to generate around 500,000 jobs and establish Uttar Pradesh as a national and global production hub.
Theatre chains like PVR INOX and MIRAJ CINEMAS are leading a tech-driven revival, rolling out 4K RGB laser projection across all screens and collaborating on premium experiences like IMAX and 4DX to lure audiences back to theatres.
Globally, 2025 delivered astonishing box office figures. China’s Ne Zha 2 grossed over $2.2 billion, becoming the highest-grossing animated film ever, surpassing Disney’s Inside Out 2 and ending its 14-year dominance. The Minecraft Movie collected $941.4 million, setting a record for video game-based films. Disney’s Lilo & Stitch remake also succeeded, grossing $452 million, ranking among the studio’s top live-action adaptations.
The Malayalam film L2: Empuraan garnered INR 265–268 crore globally, underscoring the pan-Indian potential of regional cinema. Other films such as Raid 2 , Tourist Family , HIT: Third Case , Thudarum, Jaat , and Bhool Chuk Maaf also made a significant impact at the box office. The controversy around Bhool Chuk Maaf intensified when it was initially slated for an OTT release. However, PVR INOX strongly advocated for a theatrical launch, arguing the film’s cinematic scale and cultural relevance deserved the big-screen experience. Their intervention led to a successful theatrical release, setting a precedent for theatrical-first strategies amid rising OTT dominance.
Capping off this cinematic momentum, the 8th edition of Big Cine Expo returns to the Chennai Trade Centre from August 19–20, 2025. As Asia’s premier event for the cinema exhibition industry, it promises a comprehensive showcase—from projection, sound, and seating to immersive technologies and distribution. It offers cinema professionals, technology innovators, and stakeholders an unparalleled platform to connect, discover, and elevate the future of cinema.

IMAX Leads Strong Global Bow with a Stunning 20% of the Domestic Opening For the Filmed for IMAX Epic. IMAX announced that the highly anticipated Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning delivered a $31 million debut in the IMAX global network through Monday, the biggest IMAX global opening in the nearly thirty-year history of Tom Cruise's iconic action franchise. The Filmed for IMAX release - featuring more IMAX-exclusive expanded aspect ratio footage than any Mission: Impossible film - saw a stunning 14.2% of its global box office from less than 900 IMAX screens. Mission: ImpossibleThe Final Reckoning now stands as the second biggest Memorial Day Weekend debut ever for IMAX, behind only Top Gun: Maverick. "With 'Final Reckoning,' Tom Cruise and Christopher McQuarrie bring their signature artistry and ambition to delivering heart-pounding action sequences, and it's clear audiences want to experience this epic in the most immersive way possible," said Rich Gelfond, CEO of IMAX. "Paramount made IMAX a centrepiece of the film's expansive global launch and, as a result, IMAX over-delivered with an impressive share of the strong debut for 'Final Reckoning.” Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning delivered the biggest IMAX international opening ever for a Tom Cruise film with $15.7 million IMAX box office through Monday, inclusive of early previews in numerous markets. In North America, IMAX delivered $15.3 million through Monday -
an impressive 20% of the Domestic opening weekend. The strong start for Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning builds on recent momentum across the IMAX global network, with a succession of hits in Minecraft, the Filmed for IMAX title Thunderbolts and Sinners, which was shot with IMAX film cameras. Earlier this year, IMAX notched its highest-grossing first quarter ever, with $298 million in global box office. A Filmed for IMAX release, Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning was shot with IMAX digital cameras and features select scenes with IMAX-exclusive expanded aspect ratio. The film will continue playing across the global IMAX network for the next two weeks. The film is the latest in a record run of Filmed for IMAX titles this year, which continues with Universal's How To Train Your
Dragon, Apple/Warner's Bros. F1, Warner Bros./DC's Superman, Disney/Marvel's The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Disney's Tron: Ares, and Warner Bros. Mortal Kombat 2.
Christie and Dolby Laboratories recently announced their renewed collaboration to develop the next generation of Dolby Vision laser projection systems, which will begin rolling out into theatres soon. This next-generation Dolby Vision projection system will build on the spectacular moviegoing experience that filmmakers, moviegoers and exhibitors have come to expect since Dolby Cinema was introduced 10 years ago. With more than twice the brightness of typical cinema presentations, and a contrast ratio well exceeding a million-to-one, moviegoers will experience the brightest whites, darkest blacks, and the finest details in between. For highly saturated and real-life colours, this new 4K projection system will use RGB pure laser illumination to enable Dolby's Wide Color Gamut 1.0, which is nearly twice the color gamut of Rec. 709 and 122% of DCI-P3-capable projectors. With substantially enhanced reliability and efficiency, this next-generation Dolby Vision laser projection system delivers
superior long-term performance and ease of operation. Moreover, with its lighter-weight design, and smaller chassis, it will integrate more easily into a range of premium theatrical offerings, extending the reach of Dolby Vision to even more audiences. This includes Dolby Cinema, Dolby's pinnacle cinematic experience, as well as the recently announced Dolby Vision + Dolby Atmos solution aimed at exhibitors' own premium auditoriums.
IMAX announced a significant expansion of their fast-growing partnership, with an agreement for four new state-of-the-art IMAX with Laser systems across Australia. The agreement represents the largest deal ever for new IMAX locations in Australia and triples the IMAX network with EVT. Three locations are set to open before the end of 2026, with an additional location set to open in 2027. EVT has rapidly grown its offering, becoming the largest operator of IMAX locations in Australia. EVT's existing IMAX footprint includes the iconic IMAX Sydney in Darling Harbour, which has consistently ranked among the top 5 locations globally for IMAX since it reopened in late 2023, and Event Cinemas Pacific Fair on the Gold Coast, which opened in December. The partnership extends to Australia, New Zealand and Germany, where IMAX and EVT are partnered on seven locations across these countries, with seven
more locations set to open. "A key element of the EVT entertainment strategy is to target investment into 'Fewer and Better' locations, maximising EVT's premiumisation concepts and solidifying our leading positions. Our customers love the IMAX format, and when you pair that with our broad range of premium seating options, we continue to deliver world-class moviegoing experiences. The growing preference for premium cinema is evident in our record-breaking key metrics results. With a strong future IMAX line-up, we look forward to offering more customers the IMAX experience," said EVT CEO Jane Hastings. "Moviegoer demand for IMAX significantly eclipses our current footprint in Australia, and EVT continues to be very proactive and strategic in filling that gap, with IMAX locations set for new areas across the country," said Rich Gelfond, CEO of IMAX.
"EVT and IMAX share a passion and keen focus on delivering the best possible cinematic experience, and we look forward to adding even more locations in one of our most productive markets worldwide."
IMAX has undergone unprecedented growth in Australiainclusive of this deal, the IMAX network in the country has grown eight fold since late 2022, when IMAX Melbourne was the only
location in the country. IMAX currently has four locations open in the country, and this deal bumps the backlog count to five new locations slated to open. The deal comes as IMAX continues to ride a wave of momentum in Australia. The country was the top market overall by per-screen-average (PSA) for IMAX in 2024, with an average of nearly $4.5 million per screen in the market; the next-best market delivered a PSA of just over $2.4 million. Similarly, Australia currently ranks as the tenth market overall for IMAX box office - a stellar result from just four locations in the country and ranking behind powerhouse IMAX markets like the U.S., China, Japan and the UK. The new EVT location will be equipped with IMAX with Laser, IMAX's most advanced entertainment experience.
Immersive by design, IMAX with Laser has been developed from the ground up to deliver crystal clear, lifelike images and precision audio for a moviegoing experience unlike anything else. The experience is set apart by a ground-breaking 4K laser projection system that features a new optical engine, customdesigned lenses, and a suite of proprietary technology that delivers brighter images with increased resolution, deeper contrast, and the widest range of colours exclusively to IMAX screens.
Strong/MDI Screen Systems, a global leader in premium projection screen manufacturing, has renewed its exclusive agreement with AMC Theatres to continue supporting the theatre chain's ambitious laser deployment initiative. This partnership ensures that AMC Theatres' locations across the United States will feature Strong/MDI's cutting-edge screens, designed to optimise the performance of laser projection systems. This exclusive collaboration highlights Strong/MDI's dedication to advancing cinema technology by delivering superior projection screens that enhance image brightness, clarity, and efficiency. With laser projection rapidly becoming the industry standard, the partnership underscores AMC Theatres' commitment to offering moviegoers an unparalleled visual experience. "Strong/MDI is proud to continue our longstanding relationship with AMC Theatres by supporting their laser deployment initiative," said François Barrette, President of Strong/MDI Screen Systems. "This exclusive agreement reaffirms our position as a trusted partner in delivering high-performance solutions tailored to the evolving demands of cinema technology." By adopting state-ofthe-art laser projection technology, AMC Theatres reinforces its position as a leader in providing premium moviegoing experiences, offering audiences brighter images, richer colours, and enhanced image consistency.

A new global partnership between AMC Entertainment and CJ 4DPLEX will bring 40 4DX theatres and 25 SCREENX theatres to key AMC and ODEON locations across the U.S. and Europe, starting this summer. The agreement will bring 25 total SCREENX locations across the United States and Europe. AMC and CJ 4DPLEX will deliver 40 total 4DX auditoriums across the United States and in Europe. The majority of the premium theatres will be deployed in AMC's strategic U.S. markets. The first few SCREENX auditoriums are expected to open
this summer in time for the Hollywood summer blockbuster season, and the first 4DX theatres are expected to open in the fall. The full rollout is expected to be completed by 2027. This deal marks a major milestone for CJ 4DPLEX's global expansion as it continues to excel in the premium theatrical arena. The deal will bring the total premium screen count for CJ 4DPLEX to over 1,200 locations around the world. The two companies currently operate six SCREENX auditoriums in Europe under the ODEON Cinemas banner. For AMC, the partnership marks a significant step in its ongoing commitment to investing in innovative technology and delivering the very best in premium experiences for its 225 million annual moviegoers. As a leader in embracing theatrical innovation, the SCREENX and 4DX technology signals the continued direction in the industry to leverage premium theatrical experiences as the exhibition business continues to evolve. "This partnership with CJ 4DPLEX to bring groundbreaking cinematic experiences, SCREENX and 4DX to AMC moviegoers marks another major step forward in our commitment to delivering the most immersive, cutting-edge experiences
to our millions of guests worldwide," said Adam Aron, Chairman and CEO of AMC Entertainment. "As the entertainment landscape evolves, AMC continues to lead the industry by embracing innovative technologies and premium experiences that redefine what it means to enjoy a movie."
AMC Entertainment currently operates 900 theatres and 10,000 screens around the world under its AMC Theatres brand in the United States, and under ODEON Cinemas and other brands in Europe and in the Middle East. "We're absolutely thrilled to be in business with the largest exhibitor in the world with one of the largest deals in the history of our company," said Jun Bang, CEO of CJ 4DPLEX. Regal Cinemas and IMAX announced an expansion of their longstanding partnership with an agreement for four new IMAX with Laser locations in the United States' biggest metropolitan areas. Included in the agreement, Regal will open a new IMAX theatre at the iconic L.A. LIVE entertainment complex in Downtown Los Angeles, with an IMAX 70mm film projector and 80-foot screen that will be among the largest in the city. The agreement will also bring new IMAX locations to three of IMAX's highest-grossing metropolitan
areas in the country, including Regal Greenway Grand Palace in Downtown Houston, Regal Virginia Gateway in the Gainesville suburb of Washington, DC, and Regal Sherman Oaks in Los Angeles. Three of the four new IMAX locations are set to open this year, with the remaining location opening in 2026. "At Regal, we are committed to providing the latest and most innovative technologies in our theatres with the overall goal of delivering the best moviegoing experience for our guests," said Eduardo Acuna, CEO of Regal Cineworld Group. and give our fans even more ways to experience it in IMAX."
The agreement also provides for the renewal of 33 Regal IMAX locations across the U.S., and the installation of ten previously contracted upgrades to IMAX with Laser in 2025. Regal Cineworld, the parent company of Regal, is one of the largest global operators of IMAX with 132 IMAX screens out of over 640 locations worldwide.

TOHO Cinemas. and IMAX announced an agreement to expand their partnership with six new IMAX with Laser systems across Japan. Under the agreement, IMAX will bring two new locations to TOHO Cinemas in Tokyo, while furthering its strategic expansion into key suburban areas, including Utsunomiya, Nisshin, Toyama and Motosu. The Tokyo locations, Utsunomiya, and Nisshin are set to open by the end of 2025, while the Toyama and Motosu locations are slated for the first half of 2026. Included in the agreement is one existing backlog location previously signed with TOHO Cinemas that will be upgraded to IMAX with Laser. Additionally, under the terms of this agreement, IMAX will add a second system to TOHO Cinemas Hibiya, replacing an existing premium large format theatre - the first location outside of North America to house two IMAX systems in the same complex. Inclusive of this agreement, TOHO Cinemas is now IMAX's largest exhibition partner in Japan, with the duo operating nine locations together across the country and seven more systems contracted to open by the end of 2026. The partnership has been a
successful one; in 2024, TOHO Cinemas operated three of the four highest-grossing IMAX locations in Japan. TOHO Co, and IMAX also enjoy a robust film partnership; the highly anticipated sequel to TOHO's Demon Slayer, the highest-grossing Japanese-language title ever for IMAX, will debut in July of this year, preceded by a rerelease of the original in May. "In Japan, we are currently producing a large number of Japanese films and animation to be seen in the IMAX format. We have been looking for a long time to bring this premier visual experience to as huge an audience as possible, and we are pleased to have signed the agreement to install six new IMAX theatres," said Takayuki Ikeda, CEO of TOHO Cinemas. "Especially, we are proud that TOHO Cinemas Hibiya has been approved to install two IMAX theatres, which is almost unheard of in the world. We will continue to deliver the best cinema experience to movie fans throughout Japan. We look forward to your continued support." "TOHO Group is a global entertainment powerhouse - with world-class cinemas and the largest film studio in Japan - and we continue to grow our partnership with the company in
a way that fuels both our network and box office growth," said Rich Gelfond, CEO of IMAX. "We are on pace to deliver more signings for IMAX systems in Japan this year than ever, and securing the further commitment of an excellent strategic partner such as TOHO Cinemas underscores our strength in this vital market." Year to date, IMAX has now signed agreements for eleven new and upgraded locations in Japan - on pace to beat the previous highwater mark of twelve set in 2023. Toho the parent company of TOHO Cinemas, has produced or distributed seventeen of IMAX's top twenty highest-grossing Japanese-language titles, including the anime powerhouses Demon Slayer (2021), Suzume (2022) and The Boy and The Heron (2023), all of which went on to deliver strong results in markets outside of Japan. Last month, the North American re-release of the 1997 Studio Ghibli classic Princess Mononoke by TOHO's Gkids delivered the biggest domestic opening ever for a local language title in IMAX, with $4.1 million. The six new TOHO Cinemas locations in Japan will be equipped with IMAX with Laser, IMAX's most advanced experience. Immersive by design, IMAX with Laser has been developed from the ground up to deliver crystal clear, lifelike images and precision audio for a moviegoing experience unlike anything else. It is set apart by a groundbreaking 4K laser projection system that features a new optical engine, custom-designed lenses, and a suite of proprietary technology that delivers brighter images with increased resolution, deeper contrast, and the widest range of colours exclusively to IMAX systems.

AMC Theatres announced that two of its national flagship locations, AMC Empire 25 and AMC Lincoln Square 13 in New York City, have officially completed seven-month, multi-million dollar seating upgrades. In all, more than 4,000 AMC Club Rockers combined, as well as new flooring, were installed in all traditional, non-Premium Large Format auditoriums at the two locations. AMC Club Rockers feature a wider seat by up to 23%, and replace the previous fabric-material chairs with leather-like plush to give guests a more comfortable moviegoing experience. In the non-PLF auditoriums at AMC Lincoln Square 13, the new AMC Club Rockers were installed in most auditoriums with up to 10 inches of additional leg room, and the speakers were replaced to deliver high-quality surround sound. Creating a better moviegoing experience through more comfortable seating has been a core element of AMC's strategy for more than a decade. Previous iterations of upgraded seating, which required a significant decrease in capacity, were not feasible at AMC's highest-attended theatres. The installation of the AMC Club Rockers at AMC Lincoln Square 13 and AMC Empire 25 marks the second and third
locations in AMC's U.S. circuit to switch to the wider, more comfortable seats from the traditional cloth chairs. AMC Club Rockers were first installed in AMC Burbank 16 in the Los Angeles market in the summer of 2024. These three locations are regularly in the top 10 for domestic attendance, and these new seats make the moviegoing experience even more comfortable and enjoyable for guests, without eliminating significant seating capacity. This seating renovation project began in early September 2024. AMC Lincoln Square completed its renovation in November 2024. The project officially wrapped up at AMC Empire 25 in April this yearjust in time for moviegoers to enjoy spring and summer box office hits. At both AMC Empire 25 and AMC Lincoln Square 13, all non-PLF auditoriums feature spectacular Laser at AMC projection, which makes features better brightness, crystal-clear contrast and unbelievable color on every movie presentation. In addition, AMC Empire 25 and AMC Lincoln Square 13 feature multiple premium large format screens, like IMAX at AMC, Dolby Cinema at AMC, and PRIME at AMC - all of which feature pristine laser projection.
With the spring box office booming, AMC Theatres, the largest theatrical exhibitor in the United States and the world, announced a major new pricing initiative. '50% Off Wednesdays' is designed to make moviegoing more affordable than ever. Beginning in July, AMC Stubs members will enjoy a price reduction of 50% off the adult-evening base ticket price all day long, on Wednesdays at all AMC locations in the United States. This new program is in addition to AMC continuing to offer significant discounts for AMC Stubs members on Tuesdays. Available to all 36 million AMC Stubs members, including any new members of AMC Stubs (AMC Stubs Insider membership is completely free to join), the new program allows guests to experience the latest blockbuster hits and other beloved stories on the big screen at a significantly reduced cost. Additional charges for premium formats such as IMAX at AMC, Dolby Cinema at AMC, PRIME at AMC, and RealD 3D apply, but the 50% discount will be applied to the base ticket price of those formats as well. While certain movies and holiday time periods may be excluded from the '50% Off Wednesdays' program, it is envisioned that if successful, this new AMC pricing initiative will be almost universally available at all
AMC Theatres in the United States going forward. Guests who are not currently AMC Stubs members can sign up to be AMC Stubs Insider members for free through the AMC mobile app, website, or at their local theatre. AMC Stubs membership allows for the earning of points redeemable for discounts at AMC theatres, and offers additional perks year-round, including half-price tickets on Wednesdays, free birthday rewards, and access to exclusive offers and promotions.

We got our first look at the Incubator Dual Container that Regal theatres will be unleashing this Summer for Jurassic World Rebirth, but that's not the only
popcorn bucket the new movie is getting. Cinemark Theatres has previewed its own lineup of merch this morning. The theatre chain's 'Colossal Merch' lineup will include an exclusive T-Rex popcorn bucket, which will come with a free sameday refill. It'll cost $30, with XL popcorn on the side. We're also getting Jurassic World Rebirth popcorn tins and souvenir cups from Cinemark, along with a few plushies. From executive producer Steven Spielberg and director Gareth Edwards (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Godzilla), a new era is born when Rebirth releases in theatres on July 2. Five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion, the planet's ecology has proven largely inhospitable to dinosaurs. Those remaining exist in isolated equatorial environments with climates resembling the one in which they once thrived. Scarlett Johansson stars as skilled covert operations expert Zora Bennett, contracted to lead a team on a top-secret mission to secure genetic material from the world's three largest dinosaurs. When Zora's operation intersects with a civilian family whose boating expedition was capsized by marauding aquatic dinos, they all find themselves stranded on an island where they come face-to-face with a sinister, shocking discovery.

Cinemex, one of Mexico's leading cinema chains, has acquired Christie CineLife+ Series laser cinema projectors to equip five theatre complexes as part of its brand renewal and modernisation initiative, coinciding with its 30th anniversary. This project is part of Cinemex's broader expansion and modernisation plan, which includes new openings and renovations throughout the year. The chain currently operates nearly 3,000 screens across Mexico.
"At Cinemex, continuous innovation and modernisation are key pillars of our strategy to differentiate ourselves in the market," says Francisco Eguren, COO of Cinemex.
"Adopting advanced projection technology, such as Christie's laser projectors, enables us to deliver a superior cinematic experience, providing our audiences with exceptional image quality and greater visual impact in every screening." The acquired projectors include CP2409-RBe, CP2411-RBe, CP2415-RGB, and CP2420-RGB, each selected to meet the specific projection needs of individual auditoriums. Several factors influenced the decision to choose Christie projectors. "Christie's laser projectors offer superior image quality, featuring a wider colour spectrum and exceptional brightness that ensures stunning visuals," explains Francisco Eguren. "We also appreciate their ease of use, with features like auto-configuration and motorised lens mounting that optimise our operations and ensure top performance in our theatres.
"He adds: "Energy efficiency and operational cost optimisation are critical factors in our technology decisions. Christie's laser projectors stand out for their
reliability and durability, with a long lifespan that minimises maintenance needs. Additionally, their energy efficiency helps us reduce power consumption, leading to a lower environmental impact and cost savings. Thanks to laser technology, we can provide a high-level cinematic experience while maximising operational profitability." The first 10 projectors were installed in late December at the new Cinemex Platino in Samara Satélite, Mexico Citythe first complex to showcase the chain's new brand identity, where projection technology played a key role in the transformation, delivering brighter, sharper images that significantly enhance the viewing experience. The remaining projectors will be installed between March and May of 2025 across four additional locations:
Cinemex Downtown in Puebla, Cinemex Paseo Jardines in Veracruz, Cinemex Paseo Martín Carrera in Mexico City, and Cinemex Alaia Tapachula in

"We are honoured that Cinemex has chosen Christie for this large-scale deployment of laser cinema projectors, further strengthening our long-standing partnership," says Armus. Samsung Electronics announced a partnership with the world's largest theatre operator, Wanda Cinemas, to bring its pioneering Cinema LED Screen technology to Wanda's Wujiaochang theatre, located in Shanghai's Yangpu District. The theatre marks the first implementation of Samsung's Cinema LED Screen in China, and follows successful implementations in Asia last year in Seoul and Busan, Korea, and Bangkok, Thailand, and also in Europe, at the Arena Cinemas Sihlcity in Zurich, Switzerland. "Since its introduction mid-last year, Samsung's Cinema LED Screen has captivated the cinema industry with its potential to revolutionise the theatre and filmgoing experience. Through sharper colours, true-tolife audio and an ultra-wide viewing environment, our Cinema LED Screen makes viewers feel as if they are part of the picture," said Seog-gi Kim, Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. "Through Cinema LED, we are confident that consumers in China will embrace the opportunity to engage with their favourite films like never before, and are thrilled to partner with Wanda Cinemas to bring this advanced technology to this growing market." The new partnership expands Samsung's relationship with the world's leading cinema chain. A Fortune 500 company, Wanda Cinema Line.
operates nearly 14,347 screens at more than 1,352 theatres around the world, and also owns recognisable global cinema brands including AMC, Carmike, Odeon and Hoyts Group.
Even as Cinema LED at Shanghai's Wujiaochang theatre launches, Samsung and Wanda Cinemas are already finalising a second cinema conversion in Beijing, with plans to open the venue to the public in the first half of this year. As the world's first Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI)compliant High Dynamic Range (HDR) LED theatre display, Samsung's Cinema LED Screen delivers excellent visual quality, technical performance and reliability that surpasses that of legacy projector-based operations. Stretching nearly 10.3 m. (33.8 ft.) wide, the Cinema LED Screen fits comfortably in usual theatre configurations, maintaining the same stunning picture quality at even the widest viewing angles. The display also transforms content with ultra-sharp 4K resolution (4,096 x 2,160) and peak brightness levels nearly 10 times greater than the typical cinema standard. As a result, viewers can experience more immersive content supported by bright colours, pristine whites and deep blacks.
To go with the stunning picture technology, Samsung has paired its Cinema LED Screen with state-ofthe-art audio technologies from JBL
by HARMAN. This integration includes powerful speakers bordering the screen, and an expanded audio 'sweet spot' throughout the theatre's seating area, producing a true multi-sensory experience, the way the content creators intended.
"As the world's leading cinema company, our customers expect a differentiated and memorable theatre experience both worthy of their investment and reflective of the Wanda Cinemas brand," said Qi Wang, Vice President, Wanda Film Holding. "We are honoured to work with Samsung to set the new luxury theatre standard, and look forward to making the Shanghai Cinema LED theatre a must-see destination for both movie enthusiasts and casual consumers alike." With the demands for theatre space evolving across the industry, Samsung's Cinema LED Screen will enable Wanda Cinemas to expand the service offerings inside its improved Shanghai theatre. The display's consistent presentation, even against dark or ambient lighting conditions, accommodates non-movie content, including gaming competitions, corporate events and presentations, and sports and concert simulcasting, among others.

Basildon town centre's Vue cinema is set to get the green light to stay open until 3 am and show blockbuster midnight screenings and host special events. Thousands of visitors flocked to the grand opening of the £ 25 million cinema complex last summer, and the venue has become a huge success since. Currently, the cinema is allowed to operate from 9 am until 1 am daily, however, fresh plans to extend opening hours to between 8 am and 1 am are recommended for approval ahead of a planning committee meeting on Wednesday.
Bosses at Vue hope extended opening hours will allow the chain to show big-name film premieres as they are released and allow customers to avoid busy periods. The move comes ahead of the planned opening of a huge new £ 2.75 million Wetherspoons nearby, as well as the addition of a Creams Cafe and new SushiCo as part of the cinema complex. Jessica Power, councillor for regeneration, jobs and skills, has welcomed the move as another positive boost for Basildon's nightlife. She said: "Extended opening times would be positive, it's a sign of good business and more demand. "The East Square area is really growing, with new restaurants
and eateries and the new pub opening this summer. "It all adds to improving the nightlife in the town centre." Vue extended its opening hours beyond 1 am on one weekend in October last year, with no noise complaints received and no disturbances reported in the town centre. After a noise impact assessment, it was deduced that extended opening hours would not be detrimental to the surrounding area in respect of noise or disturbance, but rather would enhance the vitality of the town centre. Ahead of the meeting, councillors have been recommended to approve the application. Planning documents state: "The proposed extended opening hours to Vue Cinema are not considered to cause detrimental harm to the residential amenities. "The development will support the vitality and viability of Basildon Town Centre."

Speaking about the partnership, Harsh Rohatgi, Chief Executive Officer, Qube Cinema, said, "Our long-term partnership with Barco has helped us establish superior projection standards across several theatres in the country. When we experienced their latest Lightsteering technology, we realised that it would help both filmmakers to offer, and viewers to enjoy, a premium visual presentation of movies in HDR. As a company that has pioneered several technologies in the digital cinema space, we are proud to introduce HDR by Barco in cinemas across the country. We are happy to have our longstanding exhibitor partner, Asian Cinemas, join us on this journey and launch this technology at three of their upcoming screens in India." The first HDR by Barco screen in India that is scheduled to open in partnership with Qube Cinema/ Barco will be at AMB Cinemas, Hyderabad, on July 27, 2025, the anniversary of Asian Cinemas' late founder, Narayan Das K Narang's birthday.

In a world where everything is skippable, Heinz is reminding people that some things, just like its thick, rich ketchup, are worth the wait. Introducing Heinz's Post-Post Credits: the first-ever ad that gets interrupted by a movie! Exclusively playing during the showings of A Working Man on April 9th and Mickey 17 and The Amateur on April 10th and 11th at Dubai Mall Reel Cinemas, this one-of-a-kind cinematic experience plays in two parts. The first half teases before the movie, but the real reward? That comes after the credits roll. Only those patient enough to stay until the very end will unlock limited-edition Heinz merch and exclusive discount deals, a treat that, like the thick and rich Heinz ketchup itself, is worth the wait. Passant El-Ghannam, marketing director MEA, Heinz Arabia, said, "You've got to really love something to wait for it - whether it's the final scene after the credits, or that glorious, gravity-defying pour of Heinz. It's irrational. It's rich. It's Heinz. And that's what this campaign is all about. In a world of skips and scrolls, Heinz is
a reminder that some things, like great ketchup and great scenes, are worth the wait."
Federico Fanti, Chief Creative Officer, FP7McCANN Dubai, said, "Post-credit scenes have become a cultural phenomenon between filmmakers and audiences, a reward for those who wait. We saw a perfect parallel with Heinz, a brand that has always turned waiting into an experience, in a way that only Heinz can."
GDC Technology, a leading global provider of digital cinema solutions announced that a new Cinity LED solution incorporating media server technology from GDC, has successfully passed the latest and most rigorous test for High Dynamic Range (HDR) and 3D presentation under Compliance Test Plan (CTP) version 1.4.1 from Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI). The Cinity LED cinema screen with GDC HDR LED media server has become the world's first and only HDR display and media server to receive this certification, setting a new benchmark in the global film industry. As the authoritative testing and certification body for the global digital cinema industry, DCI is responsible for formulating and updating the CTP for digital cinema systems. In April 2024, to address trends in display technology innovation and upgrades in market demand, DCI released the highest
certification standard, CTP v1.4.1, for global digital cinema equipment. The certification categories include traditional projection technology and direct-view LED screen technology, which are further divided into Standard Dynamic Range (SDR) and High Dynamic Range (HDR). The optional Stereoscopic Presentation testing allows certification of 3D-capable equipment. HDR direct-view LED screen technology with 3D support represents the higher standard category. "The GDC HDR LED media server represents the first-ever media server technology to achieve this status," said Dr. Man Nang Chong, founder and CEO of GDC. "This milestone marks the dawn of HDR cinema as defined by Hollywood DCI standards." Meeting the various technical standards and requirements outlined in the DCI compliance test plan for direct view high dynamic range is no small feat. It requires a significant investment in research and development, along with skilled expertise and time," said Pranay Kumar, CTO of GDC Technology. "We take pride in the fact that the GDC HDR LED media servers continue our tradition of being first-to-market, enabling movie theatres the ability to deliver an exceptional image quality that audiences will truly notice." GDC's patented HDR LED media server featuring Flexible Architecture Stable Technology (FAST) is designed for playing back 4K high frame rate movies up to 120 frames per second and 4K 3D content.
The media server incorporates all the essential features and benefits of the SR Series media servers, including highly reliable components. It ensures near-zero maintenance and an impressive 100,000 hours of Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF). The SR Series features diskless up to 4TB CineCache (built-in cache memory) playback, allowing content to be played back without the need for local HDD storage. It supports the playback of thousands of movies and includes a newly designed web-based interface that is user-friendly and intuitive.
Back in December, the theatre formally known as Next Act Cinema in Pikesville announced it was closing its doors for good. Under new ownership, those same doors are opened once again, but this time
the focus is not just on new movies. Johnson now owns Pike's Studio Cinema and decided to kick the grand opening off with a Sidney Poitier marathon of movies. He says it's important for smaller cinemas to have diversity and offer other things to stand out from other theatres. "We are competing with a lot of things. We're competing with streaming, we're competing with the big theatres with the 21 screens and the 35 screens," says Johnson. So, in addition to movies, the space can also be reserved for special events. "We're also doing a lot of special events. I mean, we're going to be doing a speaker series and we're going to be doing music nights and we're also going to be doing gaming nights," he said. But even with all the changes, Johnson says it's going to be hard to keep the space open without the support from the community. "We have no illusions, we know it's very, very tough. This is a very expensive project. We are making our struggle known to people only because I don't want, if I do have to leave, if I'm not able to do it, it won't be because we didn't try," says Johnson. But, he says, the theatre has too many ties to the community to just go to waste. So, Johnson says it would be great to have people volunteer at the cinema, rent the space out for birthdays and other events, or simply donate to ensure the doors don't have to close again anytime soon.

Helios SA, the largest independent cinema chain in Poland, has signed a multi-year agreement with Christie to convert its entire chain to RGB pure laser projection. Over the next couple of years, all Helios screens will have the latest laser projectors from Christie's CineLife+ Series and CineLife+ IMB-S4 media servers. Helios was co-founded by CEO and Managing Director Tomasz Jagiello, who was recently announced as the recipient of the 2025 UNIC Achievement Award. "We have 30 years of experience using only Christie projectors - from the first series to the latest laser models. The products have proven
themselves reliable in their class, with the highest image parameters," he explained. Jagiello underlines the length and strength of the relationship with Christie: "On my first day at work in our first cinema, I asked the technician what their ideal projector would be and they said Christie. What I learned in the first two hours of my first day, I made come true for my team as we grew. There is magic in Christie projection." In 2025, Helios starts the transformation by installing 63 pairs of projectors and servers in eight cinemas and including a mix of 4K and 2K RGB pure laser and RBe enhanced laser. Projectors were installed in all eight screens at Helios Poznan in March, with installation at Helios Blue City in Warsaw, Helios in Gdynia, and Helios Forum in Gdansk to follow. The switch to RGB pure laser will give guests to Helios cinemas the best movie-watching experience while leveraging the best-in-class operational efficiency and energy savings the projectors provide.
Helios CTO Marcin Czubak commented on the Poznan site, "Installing and integrating such new equipment is always a challenge.
The presence of Christie specialists turned out to be extremely helpful.
The image we are getting from
CineLife+ Series projectors- this is a must-see. A wide range of beautifully saturated, deep, and vivid colours, even in dark scenes, uniform image brightness across the entire screen, high contrast with deep blacks, and such sharpness. You just want to watch, endlessly!" "We are investing in the latest CineLife+ IMB-S4 servers on the market," said Czubak. "Helios was the first to install the IMB-S4 in Poland and one of the first in the world. Their integration with the projection makes it a perfect solution. One of the trademarks of Helios's remarkable success has been its unique mix of state-of-the-art equipment mixed with interesting architecture, and a highly localised approach for each cinema paired with innovative campaigns and publicity. Jagiello says Christie is crucial in their strategy going forward.
Adil Zerouali, Christie's Vice President of Sales for EMEA, says, "I've had the pleasure of working alongside Tomasz and his team on many projects, and we're proud to be working alongside the Helios again to help them continue to deliver the best-in-market moviegoing experience that they are known for."
This Father's Day, Hollywood star Gerard Butler is teaming up with Cineworld Cinemas at Renfrew Street and Silverburn in Glasgow for the launch of Cineworld's first-ever 4DX gift experience. Available to buy now in 4DX cinemas and online, the gift experience is made for fathers who thought they were brave… until their seat started moving. Cineworld's Father's Day gift includes two 4DX tickets and a pair of ponchos. Now reimagined in a breathtaking live-action format, it soars into 4DX with fire-breathing effects like air bursts in front and behind, sudden drops, windstorms and water sprays. Because nothing says bonding like braving a splash zone together in matching ponchos. You'll want to hold onto your popcorn, too, because the motion will test you, especially when you're dodging mid-air dragon battles. Just don't let Dad ask the Cineworld team if they can 'turn down the effects' (spoiler: they can't).
This Father's Day, take Dad on the adventure of a lifetime with How to Train Your Dragon in 4DX - only at Cineworld. 4DX launches you into the skies with swooping seat movements that track every aerial
battle and environmental effects that whip from fire to fog. Just make sure Dad doesn't toss any of his popcorn in the air, as dragons might mistake it for a snack. To prepare the nation, Cineworld has dropped a video guide featuring Gerard Butler and his young co-star, Mason Thames, who offers survival tips on how to train your dad in 4DX. Top tip for Dad: No Ducking When Your Seat Moves - dragons can't reach you. "I'm Scottish, fear is not in my vocabulary," insists Gerard. We'll see about that! Give Dad a Father's Day he won't forget with the 4DX Gift for 2 - and remind him there's absolutely no need to give his seat a pep talk before it starts moving. As for the bubbles? They'll arrive when the dragons see fit. Grainne Clarke, Head of Corporate Sales & Partnerships at Cineworld, said: "With two 4DX tickets and matching ponchos, our Father's Day 4DX Gift Experience is part bonding exercise, part survival test - just enough splash to test Dad's bravery and see who flinches first. "Expect airborne popcorn, dragon breath, and a cinema seat with a mind of its own. This is extreme cinema: not for the faint of heart. Or faint-of-poncho."

This approach enables exhibitors to acquire the latest RGB and RBe laser projection technology without upfront capital investments. Designed to address the financial challenges faced by cinema operators since the pandemic, the program has played a vital role in supporting the modernisation of projection systems in Brazil. The flexible model allows exhibitors to scale their investments according to their operational needs, ensuring long-term sustainability and growth. For Cine Araújo, the decision to
once again choose Christie projectors was based on three key factors. "We selected Christie for the excellent quality of its projectors, the durability of the equipment, and the exceptional after-sales support from OrionPC," says Marcos Araújo of Cine Araújo. Araújo also highlights the advantages of the Christie Cinema Rental Program. "This model allows us to quickly transition to laser projection. In addition, in Brazil, rental expenses are considered operating costs, which results in tax benefits. There is also the environmental aspect and the cost savings, as we will no longer need to replace lamps." Cine Araújo expressed great satisfaction with the image quality of Christie RGB pure laser projectors. "The brightness and colour accuracy are outstanding. We are extremely pleased with the projectors we have and the exceptional experience they provide to our customers," says Marcos Araújo. Tell us about the history of Pak Sam and your family's heritage…
Sonu: My father, Shankar Samtani, originally came from Tandu Adam. After the partition in 1947, he migrated to Indonesia around 1948. By 1963, he started building his own businesses here, including a small film company. He began producing films, and people started calling him 'Pak Sam'-'Pak' means Mister, and they shortened his name. He was well-loved by Local Artists, Cinematographers, Directors-everyone admired his vision, which was to elevate Indonesian cinema. He even managed to get Indonesian films shown in Europe, selling them so international audiences could experience our stories. I became interested in film and went to study at FTII in Pune, India, in 1981, graduating in 1984. I returned home and began working in film alongside my father. Before he passed away in September 2010, he shared a dream with me-that all Indonesians could watch local films on the big screen. He said, 'Not on TV. On screen.' It took us 13 years, but in 2024, we began building cinemas under the
name Sam Studios to realise that dream. I founded Mega Kreasi Films
The story of cinema in Indonesia begins in the early 20th century, during the era of Dutch Colonial Rule. It was a time when moving pictures were still a novelty worldwide-but their arrival in the Dutch East Indies (as Indonesia was then known) marked the beginning of a rich, evolving cinematic tradition that continues to thrive today.
in 2012. We started with TV filmsstandalone 80-90 minute stories. Today, we've produced around 6,000 of them. I've directed many serials and films, including Alena, which recently aired in Studio 21, and another one titled Silence is coming soon. Filmmaking has always been in my blood-and even though it's tiring, I truly love directing.
Could you give us an overview of Sam’s Studios and explain its core mission?
Sonu: The core mission of Sam’s Studios is to promote Indonesian films and expand access to cinema, especially in smaller cities that currently don't have theatres. Indonesia is a vast country with a large population, yet we only have around 2,000 cinema screens. That's simply not enough. With Sam’s Studios, our goal is to place theatres in underserved areas so local communities can enjoy films. That was the main vision behind creating Sam’s Studios.
How does Sam’s Studios embody the late Pak Sam's vision of providing quality cinema experiences?
Sonu: We don't compromise on quality at all. We've installed top-ofthe-line Barco projectors, a 7.1 surround sound system, and silver screens. Even the seating is specially designed. Our goal is to ensure that, even in smaller cities, people enjoy a full cinematic experience that matches what you'd find in major urban centres. We've also rethought the overall environment. Most cinemas are quite congested-you go in, watch a movie, grab some popcorn, and leave. But at Sam Studios, we've created spaces where people can relax before or after the film. There are sit-out areas, places to have coffee, and for those who smokeespecially since many Indonesians
do-we've provided designated outdoor spots. It's more than just watching a movie; it's a lifestyle experience we're offering.
What factors motivated the decision to focus specifically on Indonesian films?
Sonu: Before building our cinemas, we conducted thorough researchabout a year and a half-across all the proposed sites. What we found was quite clear: the majority of local communities in these areas strongly prefer Indonesian films over foreign ones. One of the main reasons is accessibility. Many of the audiences in these regions may not have had higher levels of education, so reading subtitles becomes a challenge. It interrupts their experience. Indonesian films, on the other hand, are easier for them to relate to and enjoy without that barrier. So, based on that insight, we made a conscious decision to focus on showcasing local films.
What is the reasoning behind Sam’s Studios' use of conventional, container, and balloon cinema models?
Sonu: When we built our first conventional cinema in Cibadak, we quickly realised how expensive the process was. Conventional buildings require a lot of materialsbricks, cement, manpower-and the
Cinema first reached Indonesian shores in the early 1900s. The earliest screenings were foreign silent films brought in by European exhibitors, shown in tents, open fields, or makeshift halls. These film shows, known as Toneel, often combined live narration and music with silent visuals, helping bridge the language and cultural gap for local audience. In 1900, the first public film screening took place in Batavia (now Jakarta), organised by a travelling European film company. Over the next two decades, screenings became more regular in major cities such as Surabaya, Semarang, and Bandung.
design is very rigid. It's just a block structure with a screen, and there's no flexibility. That's when one of our Directors, Indrani Banerjee had the idea of container cinemas. But
containers are made of steel, which created a major acoustic challenge. We had to go through a lot of trial and error to figure out how to make the sound work properly. Eventually, we got it right and launched our container cinema model. After that, we looked into balloon cinemas. I first heard of one being used in Ladakh, India, but we wanted to create something unique. The balloon cinema we developed uses a special material designed by a German scientist and manufactured in China. It's fireresistant, scratch-proof, and has an ARS-an automatic refilling system that maintains air pressure. If the pressure drops, it fills itself; if it's
too much, it releases air. It's completely self-regulating. We also designed a hidden metal framework to anchor the structure securely, so it doesn't fly off, but you won't even notice it's there. Our engineers worked closely with Chinese counterparts to stitch the material and finalise the design. I even visited China personally to inspect the prototype before we moved ahead. Now, we're working on new concepts using alternative materials-but acoustics remain a top priority in every design we explore. You mentioned significant technical challenges. Could you elaborate on those, particularly concerning the innovative balloon cinema?
Sonu: The technical challenges were significant-especially with the balloon cinema. We had to work out extremely precise measurements for everything. Just getting the
design right took us around six to eight months. It wasn't simple; we had to keep cross-checking with our Chinese counterparts, and also with the German scientist who originally developed the material. He had actually designed how air could be filled into this special structure. The material itself is air-inflated, but we also had to integrate various internal components to ensure proper acoustics. That added to the complexity. So, it involved a lot of back-and-forth travel between China and Germany. It was a long process-testing, failing, adjustingbut in the end, we got it right. Apart from the technical side, we also faced regulatory hurdles. Building a stand-alone theatre is very different from setting one up inside a mall. In a mall, most of the permits are handled by the mall
The 1930s saw the rise of Indonesian filmmakers and producers. Pioneers like The Teng Chun, a Chinese-Indonesian filmmaker, began producing popular films that blended martial arts, folklore, and moral tales. His studio, Java Industrial Film, became highly influential in shaping early Indonesian cinema. In 1937, Albert Balink, a Dutch filmmaker working with native collaborators, directed Terang Boelan (Full Moon)-often hailed as the first commercial blockbuster in Indonesian cinema. It combined romance, music, and beautiful landscapes, resonating with local audiences and inspiring a wave of new filmmakers.
management. But with a stand-alone cinema, you're responsible for securing every single permit yourself. And at the time, we were still quite new to this part of the business. Hence, we had to figure everything out from scratch-what authorities to approach, what kind of documentation was needed, how to navigate the local regulations in each region. Fortunately, once the government understood what we were trying to do, things became easier. The Minister of Culture, Mr Fadli Zon, saw that we were doing this for the people-bringing cinema to areas that had no access to it. He even made a public press release announcing that the government would support Sam’s Studios in building more theatres. That announcement helped open doors. After that, securing permits became much smoother. People began to recognise that this was a meaningful cultural initiative-not just a business project. In the end, every technical and bureaucratic challenge we faced became part of the learning process. It was tough, but it helped shape the innovative model that Sam Studios is known for today.
How does this unique concept enhance the movie-watching experience for the audience?
Sonu: The first thing you notice when you step into a balloon cinema is the unique atmosphereit's an entirely different feeling. You're walking into what looks like a balloon from the outside, and suddenly, you're in a fullfledged theatre. That initial 'wow' moment really enhances the overall experience. Another big advantage is the sound quality. Inside the balloon, we've achieved almost zero echo because of the way it's rigged. The sound you hear is clean and pure, giving a much more immersive, cinematic experience. In conventional theatres, like the
one you visited, we use bricks and add rock wool for acoustics, but it doesn't absorb sound nearly as well. With the balloon, there's a natural air gap-and in an air gap, sound doesn't travel easily. That alone makes a big difference. We also wanted the balloon cinemas to stand out visually-to set ourselves apart from the typical brick-and-mortar theatres. The design offers a fresh, modern
aesthetic that's memorable for the audience. In terms of construction, it was surprisingly smooth. Of course, we faced some technical challenges, but those were more part of the learning curve. Our servers, projectors, and speakers are all customised. So, we had to fine-tune everything-from ratios to acoustics-adjusting continuously until we got the exact feel we wanted. But I wouldn't call it a
hurdle. It was more of a creative process, figuring out what worked best for this innovative format.
Can you share the current scale of Sam Studios' operations and outline your plans for future expansion?
Sonu: We currently have 51 Screens across 17 sites and our 18th site work is on-going. Our goal is to have at least 100 sites-again, not screens, but sites-just on Java Island. After that, we'll move into Sumatra, Sulawesi, Kalimantan, and other islands. This year alone, we're targeting another 23 sites. Sam Studios also operates on a franchise model, which is gaining traction. Many investors and film producers are showing interest-they want to have their own theatres. So, we share the technology with them, train them, and guide them through the process. For example, we've got one franchise in Labuan Bajo, near Bali. A film producer there took our layout and is currently building her own theatre. We've had a strong response because the model is affordable, efficient, and unique. We also send our teams to any proposed site. They assess the land, check permit feasibility, and determine zoning restrictions-green zones, red zones, and so on. Once the location is approved, we do a full feasibility study, including audience profiling. We're not too concerned about whether other cinemas exist in the area, but we definitely prioritise places with no theatres. That's the heart of our mission-bringing cinematic access to underserved communities.
What is Sam’s Studios programming strategy for independent and foreign films?
Sonu: At Sam’s Studios, we follow a unique programming strategy. We have our own programming director, but unlike conventional
cinemas, we focus heavily on independent films and avoid screening what other theatres are already playing. That way, when people wonder why a certain film isn't showing, we later bring it back for special screenings-and those shows are usually packed. This delayed release model builds anticipation and draws larger crowds. We're also not DCI compliant-we're e-cinema-so we're not bound by the same distribution schedules or constraints as major cinema chains. That gives us flexibility. In Indonesia, about 270 to 280 films are produced annually, but only around 80 to 85 make it to theatres. The rest get pushed into backlog. At
Sam Studios, we're trying to give those under-represented films a platform. Previously, we used dubbing for foreign films, but now we prefer direct sound because it aligns better with our production and post-production process. As for foreign films in general, we experimented with them, but there were surprises-like audiences being caught off guard when Korean actors spoke fluent Indonesian. So now, we focus more on local and independent content that resonates with our viewers and fills the programming gap left by mainstream cinemas.
What is Sam’s Studios contribution to the Indonesian film industry's economy?
Sonu: Sam’s Studios contributes significantly to local communities. Firstly, we generate local tax revenue and create job opportunities by hiring and training staff from nearby areas. We run a dedicated training centre where employees learn ticketing and cinema operations, followed by a two-month trial period at our theatres. We also support education through Nobar-group screenings for schools that lack access to cinemas. On weekends, we offer special children's film screenings. Beyond this, we provide a vital platform for local artists and filmmakers including those in MP4 formatthanks to our servers that support both DCP and MP4. This allows local filmmakers to showcase their work without the cost of creating DCPs. While we warn about piracy risks with MP4s, the choice is theirs. We also maintain an in-house DCP centre for added support.
Could you briefly outline Sam Studios' future plans for utilising innovative cinema construction materials?
Sonu: We're planning a new batch of theatres in 2025 using an innovative material called powder marble-a thin slab of marble bonded to thick foam. I discovered this in China, where it was originally designed for housing, not acoustics. But I saw potential in adapting it for cinemas and developed an acoustic setup to
suit it. Our 2026 cinemas will use yet another new material as we aim to offer diverse cinema experiences to audiences. For example, with our balloon cinemas, when lit at night, they create a carnival-like atmosphere-bright, colourful, and festive. This appeals strongly to smaller cities where people enjoy that vibrant, celebratory environment. Each concept we build is designed not only to offer high-quality screenings but also to connect with the cultural
tastes and lifestyle of local communities.
Are you currently directing, and how many film projects are in the pipeline across your banners?
Sonu: Yes, I still direct, but now I choose my projects, unlike earlier when I worked under my father's company and had to direct assigned scripts. With my own company now, I have more freedom. Under Rain Creation, led by Indrani Banerjee, we plan to produce around 12-13 films this year. We follow a system developed in 2013 that allows multiple teams to work on different films simultaneously, enabling us to complete a film in just twelve days. Everything is pre-planned from the start.

Nestled in the heart of King's Lynn, Norfolk, the Majestic Cinema stands as a beacon of the town's rich cultural heritage and its enduring love for the silver screen. Since its grand opening in 1928, this historic venue has captivated audiences with its architectural elegance and commitment to delivering exceptional cinematic experiences.
A Glimpse into King's Lynn's Storied Past
King's Lynn, a historic market town in Norfolk, England, boasts a legacy that dates back to the 12th century. Once a bustling port, it played a pivotal role in maritime trade and was a member of the Hanseatic League. The town's rich tapestry of history is evident in its well-preserved medieval
architecture, including the renowned St George's Guildhall, which holds the distinction of being
the UK's oldest working theatre. Recent archaeological discoveries, such as a 600-year-old doorway believed to have been used by William Shakespeare, underscore King's Lynn's significance in England's theatrical history.
The Majestic Cinema opened its doors on May 23, 1928, with a screening of the silent film Ben Hur. Designed by architects John Lewis Carnell and William Dymoke White, the cinema was the brainchild of Ernest Ralph Adams, who ingeniously incorporated elements from the demolished Empire Theatre in Leicester Square into its design. This fusion of architectural elements bestowed the Majestic
with a unique charm, featuring polished mahogany finishes, intricate mosaic floors, and stunning stained-glass windows.
Over the decades, the Majestic has undergone several transformations to adapt to the evolving cinematic landscape. In 1977, the former ballroom was converted into a third screen, and in the early 1990s, the auditorium was twinned to create additional screening spaces. Today, the cinema boasts four screens, each retaining elements of its historic character while offering modern amenities.
In recent years, the Majestic Cinema has embarked on significant refurbishments to enhance the moviegoing experience while preserving its historic essence.
Screen 1 Revamp (2023):
The largest auditorium underwent a six-figure renovation, introducing new seating, a state-of-the-art 7.1 surround sound system, and a massive 4K projection screen. Restoration efforts also unveiled original stained-glass windows and revitalised the ornate dome and gold decorative features, blending modern technology with classic aesthetics.
Screen 3 Transformation (2022):
The smallest screen received a comprehensive makeover, featuring
tiered leather seating, enhanced soundproofing, and updated lighting, ensuring a cosy yet immersive viewing environment.
Screen 2 and 4 Enhancements (2020): Screen 2 was split to create an additional auditorium, Screen 4, both equipped with faux leather tiered seating and modern projection systems, expanding the cinema's capacity and film offerings.
These upgrades reflect the Majestic's dedication to providing top-tier cinematic experiences while honouring its storied past.
Beyond its architectural and technological advancements, the Majestic Cinema remains a cornerstone of King's Lynn's cultural landscape. Its participation in the town's Heritage Day offers residents and visitors alike a chance to delve into its rich history. The cinema's commitment to affordable pricing and diverse film selections ensures it continues to be a beloved venue for all.
As the Majestic Cinema approaches its centennial milestone, it stands as a shining example of how tradition and innovation can harmoniously coexist, offering a cinematic journey that transcends time. Majestic Cinemas in Kings Lynn is more than just a movie theatre, it's a cornerstone of entertainment in Norfolk. With its top-notch technology, comfortable seating, diverse programming, and community-focused approach, it continues to be the go-to destination for film lovers. Whether you're looking for a fun night out, a family trip, or a solo movie adventure, Majestic Cinemas delivers an unforgettable experience.

Cinema has always been about creating an immersive experience, while most of the attention goes to the content on screen or the projector behind the scenes, the screen itself, where the magic unfolds, has undergone a remarkable transformation over the years. From humble beginnings to high-tech displays, projection screens in theatres have evolved with the industries relentless pursuit of better image quality and deeper immersion. Unlike conventional projection systems that beam light onto a screen from a distance, LED (Light Emitting Diode) cinema screens are composed of self-illuminating panels. These panels form a seamless digital display, eliminating the need for a projector altogether. This technology allows for true black levels, superior HDR performance, consistent brightness, and unprecedented clarity-even in 3D and highframe-rate content.
LED cinema screens address the challenges faced by the traditional projections by utilising self-emissive LED panels that produce images directly. This results in notable advantages. LED screens can achieve peak brightness levels up to 300 nits, significantly surpassing 48 nits from a traditional projector.
The heightened brightness, combined with true black capabilities, delivers a more dynamic and immersive visual experience. With a wide colour gamut, LED screens offer vibrant and precise colour reproduction, ensuring that audiences perceive films as intended by the makers. Unlike projectors, which can suffer from optical distortions and uneven brightness, LED screens provide
consistent image quality across the entire displayed area.
As LED cinema is widely recognised and adopted, the possibility in cinema hall design can be experienced. While a normal cinema is screened, the need for a projection booth was inevitable. The requirement of projection booth is not required with use of LED cinema display. While up to
20m LED cinema screen is seen, it might go beyond that in near future as technology is not holding back being innovative.
The biggest leap in recent years has been the transition from projection to direct-view display technology. Leading this transformation are LED cinema screens, which care more with traditional projectors entirely. The adoption of led cinema screens has been steadily increasing worldwide, with several notable installations. The world's first commercial LED cinema screen, known as Samsung Onyx, was unveiled in June 2017 and installed at the Lotte Cinema World Tower in Seoul, Korea. This screen utilises industry leading 4K resolution, HDR technology and a high brightness level.
At Cinemacon 2025 in Las Vegas, Samsung Electronics announced their latest Onyx-(ICD model) cinema screen. Which delivers, true black levels, infinite contrast ratio and a much improved colour accuracy.
Samsung being the first DCI certified cinema screen, now offers industry first and longest 10 years warranty, promising its reliability. This cinema screen now supports 4K 120Hz frame rates. Onyx offers 4 standard sizes, 5 metre, 10 metre, 14 metre and 20 metre. Along with that, onyx has now introduced flexible scaling, which allows theatres to maximise their available space and show films in a larger format making it more immersive. Onyx provides auto calibration solution, which enables theatres to easily calibrate their screens during installation and routine
maintenance. Onyx is now compatible with Dolby and GDC media server for seamless integration.
HeyLED cinema screen by Timewaying is another brand that focuses on LED cinema screens. They are also DCI certified, ensuring its use in any suitable movie exhibition. Unlike many ordinary cinema screens, HeyLED produces 100 times ultra-high frame contrast (30000:1). Their specific screen compatibility can present pure black, realised naked eye 3D effect and suspended 3D image with super stereoscopic sense. HeyLED's 75%
pixel fill factor reduces, grains and glares for much smoother and clear imagery.
Unilumin's UCine LED screen is named as world's first acoustic transparent LED cinema screen. The screen is said to have unique module perforation design which create a sound cavity through the structure of the LED cabinet, which enables the main sound channel speakers to be placed behind the LED screen. This screen was first installed in Xinjiekou International Cinema at Deji Plaza in Nanjing. The screen is 20.48m x 10.8m, which supports 4K 96 frame rate and has 300 nits peak brightness. It also boasts TUV blue light certification promising blue light reduction for eye protection. Other major players in the LED cinema screen market are notably Leyard, VLED, CINITY LED, AET, Lopu, QS Tech, AOTO etc.
February 2019 saw the opening of the world's first all-led screen multiplex at Shanghai ARCH Wanda Cinema. The multiplex features Samsung onyx LED screens in each of its six premium theatre rooms, setting a new standard for multi-screen LED cinema. April 2019 marked the unveiling of the world largest Onyx Cinema LED screen at Swagath Shankarnag Cinemas. This 14-metre screen, accompanied by JBL professional cinema loudspeakers from Harman, offers an unparalleled viewing experience.
In 2024, the historic Pathe Palace underwent a significant renovation, emerging as a pioneer in LED cinema technology. The theatre now boasts six Samsung Onyx LED screens, four measuring over 10 metres wide and two at 5 metres wide.
Globally when we look at the number of LED cinemas, there are fewer than 200 cinemas. While this represents a fraction of the total number of movie theatres worldwide, the trend indicates a growing interest in adopting this technology. The benefits of LED screens, including their longevity, reduced maintenance costs, and superior performance, make them
an attractive investment for theatre owners aiming to enhance audience satisfaction and stay competitive in the evolving entertainment landscape.
With continuous advancement of technology, the HDR effect of LED screens is also continuously improving. The high brightness and high contrast characteristics of LED screens combined with HDR tech have significantly improved contrast, colour richness, and detail presentation of display screen.
In conclusion, LED cinema technology, exemplified by Samsung's Onyx screens, is revolutionising the cinematic experience. As more theatres recognise the advantages and audiences seek higher-quality viewing experiences, the adoption of LED cinema screens is poised to expand, building a new era in movie exhibition. From rudimentary painted walls to advanced LED screens, the projection screen has come a long way. The theatre experience is no longer just about watching movie, it's about living it, and the screen is a vital part of that immersion. With LED cinema screens widely accepted and preferred, the future of cinema is brighter, sharper, and more immersive than ever before.
Meyer Sound's latest addition to their basket hugelt represents a revolutionary step forward in cinema and professional audio with a fully integrated loudspeaker system designed to deliver reference-level sonic performance without compromise. Engineered to meet the exacting demands of modern dubbing stages, screening rooms, and high-end cinemas, ASTRYA 140 ensures pristine audio fidelity from the mixing desk to the final projection-transforming every seat into the best seat in the house.
The Meyer Sound ASTRYA-140 is a cutting-edge cinema screen channel loudspeaker designed to deliver unparalleled audio performance in large-format theatres and postproduction environments.
Precision Sound, Zero Compromise
Designed for rooms with dimensions of up to 140 feet from screen to back wall, ASTRYA-140 brings uncompromising clarity and volume with zero audible distortion or power compression. At its core, the system provides more than
20 dB of headroom, maintaining linear performance at any volume level. A major advancement is the
use of a fully digital input path via AES67, which eliminates a digital-toanalog conversion stage. This not
"With ASTRYA, we're delivering a new level of performance that bridges the gap between the creative intent in the postproduction studio and the final delivery in the cinema."
– John McMahon, Senior Vice President, Meyer Sound
only streamlines the signal chain but also ensures an exceptionally low noise floor, making every subtle detail and spatial cue perceptible even in the quietest moments.
ASTRYA-140 is not merely a loudspeaker-it is an all-in-one sound reinforcement solution that integrates the power amplifier, digital signal processing (DSP), network interface, and signal routing into a single, compact unit. This level of integration removes guesswork for installers and sound engineers, doing away with the need for external amplification or bulky speaker cabling. The result is a simplified installation process, more consistent sound translation across various stages and studios, and a cleaner, more efficient setup.
One of the standout features of the ASTRYA-140 is its concentric driver configuration, which reduces the vertical height of the cabinet and enhances performance by behaving more like a true point-source speaker. This design delivers superior phase coherence and improved imaging, making it easier to localise sounds and perceive depth-vital elements for immersive cinema experiences.
ASTRYA-140 isn't just a technical achievement-it's also a creative tool. Its frequency response ranges from an impressive 30Hz to 20kHz, allowing sound designers to push low-frequency content with greater precision and confidence. The extended low end gives punch and weight to screen-anchored sounds, while the ultra-clean high-frequency reproduction overcomes typical losses associated with perforated screens.
High frequencies are projected with such fidelity that any potential distortion is pushed beyond the threshold of human hearing. This opens up the creative sound palette, giving filmmakers and sound designers more expressive freedom and greater accuracy in the translation of their artistic intent.
ASTRYA-140 employs Meyer Sound's patented technology to maintain linear phase response from 40Hz to 20kHz, which ensures that all frequencies arrive at the listener's ear simultaneously. This precision leads to a sonic presentation that is not only clear and natural but also perfectly in sync with on-screen visuals. The end result is a highly immersive audio experience that envelops the audience in the narrative, heightening emotional engagement and realism.
ASTRYA-140 is built to exceed the demands of modern film production and exhibition. Its advanced integration, exceptional fidelity, and thoughtful design make it a future-proof solution for venues seeking uncompromising audio performance. Whether it's a large-scale mixing stage, an intimate screening room, or a state-of-the-art cinema, ASTRYA-140 provides the sonic foundation needed to bring stories to life with unmatched clarity, impact, and authenticity.
The Beverly Theatre in Las Vegas, NV, is the first commercial exhibition venue to feature Meyer Sound's new ASTRYA cinema loudspeakers. Its three new ASTRYA-140 screen channel loudspeakers replace Meyer Sound Acheron loudspeakers, marking a natural evolution in the theatre's ongoing commitment to high-impact, precision audio. Imagined by The Rogers Foundation and built in 2023, The Beverly Theatre is designed for engaging, cross-disciplinary programming. It hosts film screenings seven nights a week alongside concerts, author events, and talkbacks, with retractable seating for 146 and open-floor capacity for more than 400. The venue's audio infrastructure, provided by Meyer Sound, delivers uncompromising sound across all formats, with a cinema system, P.A. system, and Constellation acoustic system at its core. "We have three programming pillars: live, lit, and film," says Kip Kelly, The Beverly's founding
Creative Director and Chief Experience Officer.
"When we started building this, it was important to us that we're not a multipurpose space, but a very intentional space for those three things. If somebody comes and enjoys a concert, it should feel like a concert hall in every sense of the word. If someone watches a film, it should feel like a true art house. And when we host authors, it should feel like a space for them as well." The ASTRYA upgrade replaces Acheron 100 screen channel loudspeakers but retains the rest of the original cinema system: six X-800C high-power cinema subwoofers and 14 ULTRA-X20 compact point-source loudspeakers as surrounds.
The Constellation system takes the room's acoustic response from a physically deadened cinema environment to music and speechoptimised profiles at the touch of a button. Two ULTRA-X40 compact point source loudspeakers, polemounted on two 900-LFC
low-frequency control elements, provide coverage for live events in the theatre and adjoining terrace. The Beverly presents a wide range of independent films, many with subtle, dialogue-driven soundtracks; Kelly says ASTRYA has already made an impression. The upgrade was managed by Technology West Group, with consulting support from Jason Pritchard, who was also part of the venue's original design team. Developed with feedback from top film mixers and sound editors, ASTRYA is Meyer Sound's most refined cinema loudspeaker to date. With ultra-wide dynamic range, zero distortion, and extreme sonic clarity, ASTRYA ensures every detail from the mix stage is preserved in the audience experience.
Meyer Sound plays a central role in every event at The Beverly-from sold-out concerts to intimate book readings-supporting the venue's commitment to delivering stories with clarity and emotional resonance.
Cinema technology has evolved remarkably over the years, transforming how stories are projected on the silver screen. One of the latest innovations disrupting the industry is boothless projection-a concept that eliminates the traditional projection booth, streamlining operations while offering significant benefits to exhibitors and audiences alike.
Boothless projection refers to a cinema setup where the projection equipment is no longer housed in a dedicated projection booth. Instead, compact, high-performance digital projectors are mounted directly inside the auditorium, typically mounted on the ceiling or integrated into a discreet enclosure at the back of the theatre.
This innovative approach leverages advancements in laser projection and compact digital projectors, making it possible to maintain high-quality visuals without the bulky machinery of traditional setups.
Key Advantages of Boothless Projection
• Cost-Effective Infrastructure: By eliminating the need for a projection booth, theatres can save on construction and operational costs.
Boothless designs allow for more efficient use of space, enabling cinemas to increase seating capacity or allocate space for additional amenities like dining or lounge areas.
• Energy Efficiency: Modern boothless systems utilise laser projectors that consume less energy compared to traditional lamp-based systems. The reduced energy footprint aligns with sustainability goals and lowers operational costs. Additional air-conditioning inside the projection booth is avoided.
• Improved Flexibility: With projection systems no longer constrained to a fixed booth, theatres have more flexibility in designing auditoriums. This innovation is particularly advantageous for multiplexes and boutique cinemas that prioritise customisation and immersive experiences.
• Enhanced Maintenance and Security: Compact and self-contained projection systems are easier to access for maintenance. Additionally, placing the equipment within the auditorium allows staff to monitor operations directly, minimising downtime.
While boothless projection offers numerous benefits, its adoption comes with certain challenges:
• Noise and Heat Management: Projectors placed inside auditoriums must be acoustically and thermally insulated to prevent disruption to the audience.
• Integration with Existing Systems:
For older cinemas, retrofitting boothless systems into existing infrastructure may require extensive remodelling.
•Any service during the show when audiences are filled.
Boothless projection is gaining traction worldwide, particularly in premium cinema chains and luxury boutique theatres. As manufacturers like Barco,
Christie, NEC and Sony continue to innovate in projector technology, the adoption of this approach is expected to expand. Boothless projection can also be implemented for E-cinema.
Moreover, the rise of immersive formats such as ScreenX and 4DX further complements boothless projection systems, creating a seamless integration of cutting-edge visuals with dynamic theatre experiences.
Conclusion
Boothless projection marks a significant step forward in cinema technology, offering a practical and innovative solution for modern theatres. While challenges remain, the benefits in terms of cost savings, energy efficiency, and audience experience make it an attractive option for exhibitors seeking to stay ahead in an evolving industry.
As cinema technology continues to evolve, boothless projection stands as a testament to the industry's commitment to enhancing storytelling through cutting-edge.
AxisY's boothless projection systems are made in India and designed with cutting-edge features that combine compactness, high performance, and ease of integration. Unlike traditional setups that rely on bulky projection booths, AxisY's technology focuses on streamlining operations, maximising space utility, and enhancing visual quality.
AxisY had installed about 150+ Projection lifts in India and they are the key partners for PVR-INOX, NY Cinemas, CityPride and SVF Cinemas for Boothless projection requirement.

Overview
In a world where cinematic experiences are increasingly outpaced by the convenience of home streaming, the question arises: What will ensure that theatres remain a place of vibrant collective experience?
The Big Cine Expo 2024 panel discussion, titled "Decoding the Perfect Cinema Cocktail - How
Cinema Technology Shapes Box Office," provided crucial insights on how cinema can continue to evolve amidst mounting challenges.
Led by a diverse set of industry leaders, the panel dissected cinema technology's pivotal role in shaping both audience engagement and box office success. In an environment where innovations like Dolby Atmos and HDR are redefining film
presentation, the industry faces the task of adapting to changing consumer expectations. From immersive audio to the seamless integration of state-of-the-art technologies, the conversation underscored one essential truth: cinema's survival lies in its ability to innovate without losing the soul of shared experiences.
Innovation: The Gateway to Sustaining Cinema
At the core of the discussion was a strong sentiment from Suresh Babu
about the importance of emotional engagement through cinema. For him, the essence of cinema is not just the spectacle of a film but the communal feeling of experiencing a story together. 'There's a power in shared experiences,' he said, emphasising the irreplaceable nature of cinema as a social activity. As audiences return to theatres post-pandemic, there's a renewed focus on delivering emotional resonance. Suresh Babu explained that the true value of cinema is that it allows people to feel collectively, creating a bond between strangers. Theatres offer an experience that no amount of streaming can replicate: the thrill of shared joy, tension, and awe.
It's this shared emotional exchange, Suresh Babu asserted, that remains cinema's strongest competitive edge in the face of a growing reliance on streaming services. The experience of being in a room with a hundred other people - laughing, crying, holding their breath together - cannot be duplicated at home. This is what makes cinema, in its purest form, unique.
Friedrich's contribution brought the conversation into the realm of
Daggubati Suresh Babu , Film Producer, Suresh Productions
technology, where the line between spectacle and immersion is becoming ever more blurred. 'We are no longer just showing films; we are creating worlds,' Friedrich declared, reminding the panel of cinema's power to immerse its audiences in ways that home entertainment cannot. His insight into the evolving role of cinematic technology, specifically in Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, spoke to how these advancements contribute to creating more layered, immersive experiences for audiences. For example, Dolby Atmos doesn't just offer surround sound; it allows sound to move around and above the audience, adding a dimension to a film that transcends the boundaries of a traditional home setup.
According to Friedrich, this immersion is integral to the way cinemas can continue to remain relevant, pushing the envelope of technological capability. The question, however, is whether these technologies are enough to spark a return to the cinema for those who might otherwise opt for the comfort of their living rooms. 'We need to create experiences that elevate storytelling,' Friedrich explained. This alignment between technology and narrative can drive audiences to theatres, seeking that higher engagement with film that streaming can't provide.
Henry took the discussion deeper into the world of sound, framing it as the often-overlooked element of cinematic experience. 'Cinema is more than sight; it's about the sound, too,' he remarked. His focus on the role of advanced sound systems highlighted how integral sound technologies are to providing a fully immersive experience for the audience. Through the use of cutting-edge sound systems like Dolby Atmos, cinemas offer an experience where audiences are not just watching the action unfoldthey're in the action. The sound doesn't simply accompany the image; it envelops the audience, drawing them into a multi-sensory experience.
For Henry, sound is not a secondary concern. It's a primary aspect of the storytelling process. Technologies that provide immersive soundscapes are integral in shaping how a film connects with its audience. 'It's not just about hearing; it's about feeling the sound, being surrounded by it,' he explained. As filmmakers increasingly look at sound to enhance the emotional core of a film, cinemas must also elevate their sound capabilities to ensure that audiences get the full sensory experience intended by the filmmakers.
Tejal Satish, Chief Operating Officer, Broadway
Yet, it's not only about technology; it's about the way cinemas are reimagining the physical and emotional space they offer.
Tejal spoke passionately about how theatres are evolving into experiential destinations. 'People want more than just a movie; they want an experience,' she said. This reflects a broader trend where audiences seek more than just a film screening; they want an environment that invites them to relax and engage. Theatres are moving away from the traditional model of simply showing films and towards a holistic experience that spans everything from the quality of the seating to the overall ambience of the venue.
Tejal's insights underscore an important shift in audience expectations: they are no longer satisfied with a functional theatre; they want comfort, luxury, and a curated environment that enhances their enjoyment of the film. This is where cinemas must adapt. 'It's about creating a space where people feel comfortable, a place where they can immerse themselves in the experience before the film even begins,' she explained. For cinemas, this means creating a destination, not just a venue.
Vishnu's comments complemented Tejal's, pointing out the importance of offering varied content to meet the diverse tastes of today's audience. 'There's a demand for variety, for diverse narratives,' Vishnu noted. The days of the monolithic cinema programmewhere only big-budget blockbusters rule the box office - are fading. Audiences today are more eclectic, seeking films from different regions, genres, and cultural backgrounds. To cater to this diverse demand, theatres must embrace not just mainstream cinema, but a broader spectrum of content.
As Vishnu highlighted, the key to remaining competitive is not only providing new technologies and luxurious experiences but also embracing diversity in the content that cinemas offer. Independent films, international releases, and niche genres need to find their place on the big screen alongside the mainstream blockbusters, as a more dynamic and varied offering attracts a wider range of filmgoers.
In a pragmatic moment, Yusuf brought attention to the operational challenges that theatres face when integrating new technologies. 'The challenge is in managing costs while still delivering an enhanced experience,' he pointed out. It's not enough to have the latest technology; the cost of maintaining these advancements must be weighed carefully, especially for smaller or independent cinemas. Yusuf's comments raised a crucial issue - the need for collaboration across the industry to ensure that these technologies are accessible and scalable for all types of cinemas.
The operational demands of running a cinema chain in today's competitive environment require constant innovation. Yusuf called for greater collaboration among different industry players to ensure that technological advancements do not become burdensome for cinemas struggling with costs.
Friedrich summed up the discussion by emphasising the role of collaboration in shaping the future of cinema. 'The future of cinema will depend on innovation, but more importantly, it will depend on collaboration,' he said. The industry's success, he argued, lies not in individual efforts but in how well cinemas, technology providers, and filmmakers work together to push the boundaries of what cinema can be.
