f you are waiting for NDP Premier John Horgan and his NDP cum Green government to help locals purchase homes, forget it. He ain’t doing it. Premier Horgan is concerned that proceeds from illegal activities being laundered at BC casinos may also be making its way into the real estate market and his government is looking into that aspect of the market. He cited the work being done by Attorney General David Eby in unearthing the fact that “enormous amounts” of money are being laundered at BC casinos and some of that money may also be land red by purchasing of real estate . “We are looking into that,” he

said. But Premier Horgan is not interested in bringing the price of houses down so locals can afford to buy it. He is not going to take any bold initiatives like banning foreign investment or increasing the 20 percent foreign buyers tax introduced by the previous BC Liberal government. Nope, he said at a press conference for South Asian media on Thursday morning. On housing, He is going to do....Nothing except help build low cost housing for renting, provide more housing for homeless and provide a rental subsidy at some point. He made all sorts of noises about how concerned he is about the housing situation and how sad it is that locals can’t afford to buy homes in their Continued on page 6

Andrew Wilkinson says he has a plan for all British Columbians. All he needs is to be given a chance as the new leader of BC Liberals to put that plan in action. The former BC Liberal Minister and former deputy minister in the BC government is one of the 11 candidates vying to replace Christie Clark as the leader of the BC Liberals. And he is going toe to toe with fellow former Minister Todd Stone in leading the pack. Wilkinson already has the support of 12 sitting MLAs and is hoping to get more support from sitting MLAs soon. “A NDP government is not good for BC,” Wilkinson said in an exclusive interview with The Asian Star this week, pointing to a $600 million drop in government revenue in the last quarter as a sign that investors and businesses do not have confidence in the NDP government. “Generally people, businesses and investors do not trust NDP to do a good job,” he said. And NDP has not done anything to disprove that notion.

Surrey stops crackdown on secondary suites Surrey has placed a moratorium on a plan to evict renters in illegal secondary suites, just months after letters were sent to 175 homeowners in a single neighbourhood asking them to comply with current regulations. Council voted on Monday night to support a motion from city staff calling for the current enforcement program to be suspended for a

year while a new compliance program for secondary and multiple suites is created. Councillors suggested it would be best to have a new plan ready to go before next year’s election. “I’m not going to be cynical here. It takes some time for the process to move through the proper
