Internationally renowned cricketer and former Indian national team captain, Sunil Gavaskar, paid a short visit to Metro Vancouver this past week. He arrived in Vancouver on Tuesday night while on his way to a meeting in Detroit and met local cricket enthusiasts and fans. He flew out to Detroit from Vancouver on Friday (yesterday). Gavaskar stopped by here as a result of his connection with a local cricket fan and businessman.

Sikh brutally assaulted in US An elderly SikhAmerican (pictured) man was brutally injured and called “terrorist” and “Bin Laden” in an apparent hate crime case in Chicago, just days before the US commemorates the anniversary of the September 11 attacks. Alan Kurdi’s father worked with human smuggler and captained boat that capsized, survivor says An Iraqi woman who was on the same boat as Alan Kurdi, the boy whose body washed up on a Turkish beach last week, says his father was in charge of the boat that capsized, drowning many of the migrants on board.
The woman, Zainab Abbas, lost two of her own children on the fateful crossing, and is now back in Iraq. She told Channel Ten news in Australia in an interview that Abdullah Kurdi was driving the boat. She Continued on page 7
