With the new year in full swing, Parklea is working on some exciting new projects, while existing developments continue to progress. As new communities take shape, Parklea’s focus is on preserving natural environments and making developments environmentally sustainable.

Land has been purchased in Nar Nar Goon as part of a collaborative project to revitalise the township to boost commercial and population growth. See the article for more on this project.

Parklea’s Mernda land estate, Everton Gardens has sold out! The last release sold quickly,

with families wanting to secure their place in this established community.

Read on for a preview of what’s happening across the south east growth corridor this year.

At Timbertop Estate, Officer residents are enjoying their new park, Hicks Reserve. The park was officially opened in January by Mayor Brett Owen and members of the Hicks family, former owners of the land. In other news, works have commenced on the wetlands at the front of the estate.

New park pays tribute to former land owners Hicks Reserve, the new neighbourhood park at Timbertop Estate, Officer opened in January, with Mayor Brett Owen and the Hicks family performing the official ribbon cutting.

After months of careful planning, the eagerly awaited park commenced construction in 2016. It was named after the former owners of the land, the Hicks family, who were early pioneers in the Officer area. They used the land for dairy farming, apple orchards and beef cattle. In 2003 Parklea purchased the land from the Hicks family, with Timbertop Estate launching in 2012. Timbertop is now home to around 700 people with over 250 homes occupied.

Members of the Hicks family were guests of honour at the opening with local MPs and Cardinia Shire Councillors also in attendance. Special guests enjoyed food and coffee from the Timber Mill Cafe.

Parklea Founder, Andrew Facey and Mayor Owen gave speeches, commenting on how the park honours the historic land and the positive impact it will have in bringing the community together.

Mayor Owen and the Hicks family even had a turn on the giant slide.

Funded by Parklea, without any contribution from local council, the two hectare reserve is located in the heart of Timbertop, on the corner of Timbertop Boulevard and Goldsborough Drive. There’s something for everyone including beautiful walking tracks with native planting, a lookout area, playground and giant slide for the kids, picnic area, and a kickabout area.

Hicks Reserve is one of two parks planned for the estate. Bring family and friends down and explore the park this weekend.

New primary school coming to Officer!

A new primary school is coming to Officer, with construction estimated to be completed in the first quarter of 2018.

Gum Scrub Creek P-6 Primary School (interim name) will accommodate up to 900 students and includes an integrated early learning facility for 109 pre-school children.

The site for the school is on Sandy Road in Officer and will service the Officer/Beaconsfield area. $13 million was allocated to the project in the 2016-17 State Budget. The appointed architects are award winning ClarkeHopkinsClarke and the builder is Commercial Industrial Construction Group (CICG).

The school has been designed with a community focus, integrating with the adjacent public recreational reserve and providing easy access for the community to use facilities outside of school hours. The school will include sporting facilities including a netball/basketball court.

The early learning centre will be a huge drawcard for families in the area, with parents benefiting from family services and children being able to smoothly transition from kindergarten to primary school.

Energy savings made simple The South East Councils Climate Change Alliance (SECCCA) is providing free advice on how to maximise energy efficiency in your new home, at the Timbertop Sales Suite.

Lucy, a Timbertop Resident setup the Love Our Street initiative which organises regular events where residents meet up to clean up local parklands and streets.

Whether you contributed to the rubbish or not, it’s everyone’s responsibility to look after the environment and ensure our community is a place we can be proud of.

This free, State Government funded service is available to future Timbertop residents to assess their plans and make recommendations that will make their homes energy efficient and reduce the impacts of climate change.

Daniel Pleiter, SECCCA’s Climate Change Projects Coordinator says that by implementing a few simple changes to their homes, residents can save a significant amount on power bills and ensure a comfortable home in every season.

“Builders are required to build to a 6 star standard, however there’s a lot more you can do that most people aren’t aware of to improve energy efficiency to get the most bang for your buck.”

SECCCA volunteers assess building plans and budget to see what can be done to upgrade your home and advise on whether the home design is best suited to the block and its orientation.

Daniel said that the advice they give home builders is nothing new, however the following elements are often overlooked in the process and can have huge long-term impacts.

The group has already held a couple of clean-up days around Timbertop Estate and will continue to do so in the coming months. It’s a wonderful opportunity to be able to do something worthwhile with your Saturday and get to know your neighbours.

Timbertop residents will soon be able to enjoy the view of newly landscaped wetlands while having a coffee at the Timber Mill, with works commencing in March.

The project is anticipated to be completed by August/September.

In addition to beautifying the wetlands, one of the key aims of the project is water management for the area. The lake and surrounding land has been acquired by Melbourne Water, who will fund the project to transform it into a retarding basin catchment for all storm water within Timbertop and surrounding estates. The water is then able to channel across the road to other wetlands which were constructed mid 2016.

It’s very open, big spaces, great walking tracks.

It’s within close proximity to schools and shopping centres, but you don’t feel like you’re living in the middle of suburbia.

Meet the Craigs With two children and two dogs, Liz and Jeff Craig chose Timbertop for its wide open spaces and mix of rural beauty and convenience. With their two children Emily, 11 and Lachlan, 9, the Craigs love taking their dogs for walks around Hicks Reserve and enjoying beautiful views. They are looking forward to one day building a pool for family and friends to enjoy in the warmer months.

Family is everything to the Craig family, who enjoy spending precious time together at home and going out and enjoying community events.

They are members of the Timbertop Residents Group, which runs fun events to help neighbours get to know each other. They have enjoyed attending a number of family events, where

they’ve been able to make friends with their neighbours.

When they’re not out and about the Craig’s are homebodies and love just chilling out at home.

The process of building their dream home at Timbertop was great because of the open communication of the sales team, said Liz. While every new home build has it’s ups and downs, Liz said that the team at Timbertop “went above and beyond” to make it an enjoyable process and achieve the result they had envisioned.

Everton Gardens

sells out

Everton Gardens has completely sold out, with the last lots in the Finale Release selling quickly over the past couple of months.

The Mernda estate launched in 2012 and is now home to 200 families and landscaping, tree lined streets and parklands are already in place.

The estate has grown quickly, with residents drawn to its convenient location near schools

The Gift of hope to local children

BETTER PUBLIC TRANSPORT, LESS CONGESTION, MORE JOBS A new purpose-built factory in Pakenham will be the catalyst for hundreds of new jobs, safer public transport and less traffic in the Cardinia Shire.

The 13,000m2 factory is producing infrastructure to remove level crossings as part of the Andrews Labor Government’s Caulfield to Dandenong Level Crossing Removal Project.

Local residents gave the gift of hope to disadvantaged children in the Casey/Cardinia region, donating piles of gifts as part of Parklea’s annual gift drive, run at Timbertop Estate and Arena Shopping Centre.

Parklea donated the gifts to Windermere and The 4C’s, who delivered them to children throughout the Casey and Cardinia Shire area.

Each year Windermere and The 4C’s assist thousands of people in the local community with food, housing, jobs, counselling and more.

Many of the children who will receive these gifts suffer as a result of financial hardship, broken relationships, family violence, and lack of education.

$1.6 billion will go into removing nine level crossings in and around Pakenham, building five new train stations, and generating 2000 jobs.

It will also create 11 MCGs of space, providing opportunity for greater development in the Cardinia Shire Member for Eastern Victoria Daniel Mulino said the project will provide one of the most significant boosts to Pakenham’s economy in recent years.

“It’s fantastic that our record investment in infrastructure is bringing economic opportunities and more jobs to Pakenham”, he said.

Parklea’s Sales and Marketing Manager, Jarod Mills said that Parklea is excited about the new opportunities for development. “This is just another reason why the Cardinia Shire is the place to be for families, businesses and investors”, he commented.
