Aqua Skin: A Case Study

Acquaskin Wet Deck

PROJECT

Splash Pad Installation Using Aquaskin

The Acquaskin system has been part of the major redevelopment works at Victoria’s Gumbuya Park’s new Wild Water Park. The client wanted a nonporous, slip-safe system that can be fully submersed in water. Acquaskin formed the foundation lining of this new water slide and adventure structure.

Acquaskin was pivotal in providing the resilience and slip-safe qualities protecting children from slips, trips and falls. For old pools that suffer from leaking and substrate damage, Acquaskin acts as a new skin that is chemically resistant and water tight giving the pool a new, durable lifespan of 20 years at the fraction of the cost of retiling.

For this project, Acquaskin provided a water-tight, slip-safe wet deck area that can be fully submersed and provide a durable and flexible lining to this new water park feature.

THE MATTIOLI DIFFERENCE
34

What are they key benefits of Aquaskin

Slip-Safe

A surface for splash pads and pool floors with the durability of an industrial protective coating

Watertight

Applied to a thickness of 3-5mm as a rapid curing sprayed coating. This ensures no seams or joints are created providing a new complete shell over a substrate.

Flexible

Acquaskin is a flexible polyurea based system allowing movement without the risk of tearing or delamination. With movement and shrinkage found in new current day concrete structures, Acquaskin provides a flexible membrane lining for new and ageing assets.

Chemical Resistant

It is highly resistant to chemicals such as chlorine and sodium hydrochloride

Minimal Maintenance

Mattioli recommends a top coat sealer every 10 years depending on the chlorine dosing of the pool or wet deck. This is not for the benefit of the liner but instead to ensure Acquaskin’s colour aesthetics are maintained.

Airlite® Paint

Enhancing building efficiency and air quality, inside and out

Airlite® paint is designed with advanced patented technology that boosts building sustainability by leveraging its unique properties when applied externally or internally. Externally, its ability to reflect sunlight significantly reduces indoor heat and cuts air conditioning energy use by 15-50%. This heat-reflective quality, alongside its powerful airpurifying effects, mimics the benefit of 80 forest trees over 1000 m², capturing NOx and reducing pollution comparable to the impact of Euro 6 compliant vehicles, without emitting CO2 or releasing toxic materials.

Internally, Airlite® is activated by UVA light and offers exceptional environmental health benefits. It has natural alkaline properties and contains no Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), repelling dust and airborne particles. This helps eliminate major airborne pollutants, prevents the growth of bacteria, molds, and spores that can cause severe respiratory diseases, and eliminates odors while preventing dirt and grime from adhering to surfaces, thereby maintaining clean walls and surfaces with minimal maintenance.

Its flame-resistant inorganic composition and low VOC content underline its environmental benefits, making it ideal for settings where reducing microbial contamination risks is crucial. Airlite®’s versatility in indoor and outdoor applications offers a comprehensive solution for enhancing air quality and managing energy costs effectively.
