NEIGHBORHOOD NEWS

A message from Kat

Hello Fellow Residents, November brings fall leaves & turkeys!! Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays! I love getting together with family, eating delicious food and telling stories over the dinner table. Did you know the first Thanksgiving in 1621 lasted three days and was a harvest festival shared between the Pilgrims and Wampanoag tribe? Turkey was not the main dish, instead they served deer, fowl, lobster, and seal. The holiday didn’t become a national holiday until 1863, thanks to Sarah Josepha Hale, and the modern tradition of pardoning a turkey began with President George H.W. Bush. Thanksgiving also inspired the first TV dinners. Just a reminder that our new garbage pickup day is now Monday mornings, so please have your trash can out on Sunday nights. Please remember if garbage day falls on a holiday, it will then be a day behind schedule. The last day our community pool will be open is October 31st. It will then be closed for the winter. You can still sit around the pool, but no swimming is allowed.

Next month we will be hosting our Christmas Party on Saturday, December 20th from 5-10 at the Litchfield Country Club! We will be having DJ Brett play from 6-10 as well as a chance to win some nice gifts! The winner for the Lottery Tree scratch-off will also be announced at the party. Tickets can be purchased for $5 at the office for a chance to win $100 in scratch-off tickets on our Christmas Tree Wreath! You will have the choice to choose from 1 of the following dinners: Oven Roasted Salmon w/ a lemon-basil & caper veloute, a Herb Roasted Chicken Breast w/ whole grain mustard cream, a Grilled 8oz Filet Mignon medium rare herb marinated w/ burgundy demi, or a Wild Mushroom Ravioli w/ spinach & parmesan cream sauce. All dinners include warm rolls, house salad, chef’s choice of starch & vegetable and iced tea & coffee. Cash bar. Tickets go on sale November 1st. They will be $25 (cash) from November 1st- 15th, they then go up to $35 from November 16th- 30th and December 1st- 5th they will go up to $45. December 5th is the LAST day you can purchase tickets. When purchasing tickets you must write your name & choose your main dish. Sincerely, Kat

A message from Allison

Hi Y’all,

It’s me. Remember me, Allison?

Phew! The last five months have been crazy since Cobblestone acquired our new property, Carolina Tides. I really miss the day to day I used to spend at Oceanside Landing and all the regulars that come by to chat on a daily and/or weekly basis, but I am confident you are in good hands with Kat and Fred. I am still only a phone call away to my staff and all of you 843-240-2094.

I want to address the drainage issue. I thought 2024 was the worst year for rain, but 2025 has been the ALL TIME worst I have seen in my 49 years in SC! I had a company walk the community and give us a quote to relieve the trouble areas. Unfortunately, these things don’t happen overnight, and I greatly appreciate your patience while we figure out what can be done.

Next, I want to thank the Social Committee and volunteers for all they do. I am so impressed with the wonderful events that you have had and are planning for the future. BIG KUDOS to y’all.

I look forward to seeing you around the neighborhood.

Peace and blessings, Allison

Pumpkin Coffee Cake

INSTRUCTIONS

INGREDIENTS

FOR THE PUMPKIN CAKE:

• Baking spray with flour, for the pan

• 1 cup unsweetened pumpkin puree

• 2/3 cup packed light brown sugar

• 1/2 cup vegetable oil

• 1/2 cup sour cream

• 1/2 cup granulated sugar

• 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract

• 2 large eggs

• 2 cups all-purpose flour

• 2 tsp. pumpkin pie spice

• 1 tsp. baking powder

• 3/4 tsp. baking soda

• 1/2 tsp. kosher salt

CREAM CHEESE DRIZZLE:

• 2 oz. cream cheese, cubed

• 3/4 cup powdered sugar

• 1/4 Tbsp. vanilla extract

STREUSEL:

• 3/4 cup all-purpose flour

• 3/4 cup walnuts, chopped

• 3/4 cup packed brown sugar

• 1 tsp. pumpkin pie spice

• 6 Tbsp. salted butter, melted

1. For the streusel: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, walnuts, brown sugar, and pumpkin pie spice. Stir in the melted butter. Cover and refrigerate the streusel for at least 15 minutes and up to 1 day.

2. For the pumpkin cake: Preheat the oven to 350°F. Spray a 13-by-9-inch baking pan with baking spray. Line the pan with parchment paper, leaving a 1-inch overhang. Spray the parchment.

3. In a large bowl, whisk together the pumpkin puree, brown sugar, vegetable oil, sour cream, granulated sugar, vanilla, and eggs until well combined. Add the flour, pumpkin pie spice, baking powder, baking soda, and salt, stirring until just combined.

4. Pour the batter into the pan, smoothing the top with an offset spatula. Remove the cold streusel from the refrigerator, and use your fingers to break it into dime-size pieces. Sprinkle the streusel evenly over the batter.

5. Bake the cake until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs, 40 to 45 minutes. Let cool completely in the pan.

6. For the cream cheese drizzle: In a medium heatproof bowl, microwave the cream cheese until very soft, 10 to 15 seconds. Whisk in the powdered sugar, vanilla, and 1 tablespoon water.

7. Using the parchment overhang, lift the coffee cake from the pan. Drizzle the cream cheese drizzle over the cake. Let set for 15 minutes before slicing.
