Yvonne's Message
Hello Register Members,
Firstly, a very big welcome to our two, yes two, new Liaison Officers, Senior Constable Nikki Person and Senior Constable Stuart Hart. All the volunteers look forward to working with you both and I thank you for taking on this role. As 2025 draws to a close, our volunteers have had a busy year visiting members in their homes and also making regular phone calls to many members.
If you would like a home visit where two volunteers visit you for a social chat, you can choose whether you would like weekly, fortnightly or monthly visits on a Monday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday. Visits are between 10am and 1pm. You may also like to have a volunteer phone you for a chat, again it is your choice as to the day and how often you would like a phone call. If you are unable to come to the MPSCR office which is situated just inside the Mornington Police Station front doors, you can phone the office on Monday, Wednesday or Friday between 10am -1pm on 5970 4983, or email mpscr1@hotmail.com
Please notify the office if you have had any changes to your original details on your membership application form. It is most important that our data base is kept up to date.
The MPSCR office will close for the Christmas/New Year break at 1pm on Friday 19th December 2025 and will re-open on Monday 12th January 2026 at 10am.
Home Visits and Phone calls will cease during this time.
Events this year have been few and far between due to the high cost of everything, but due to popular demand from some members there will be more events in 2026.
Please read the Events page in this newsletter.
The day trip to Werribee Park Mansion was enjoyed by all except for the bitterly cold weather. The weather unfortunately is something we have no control over!
I am pleased to say that our final event for this year at Steeples is booked out. As this is a Steeples event we will be seated in the main restaurant for morning tea and Morning Melodies with other guests. Lunch follows and will be served to our group in the function room. Remember to bring some money for raffle tickets.
Steeples doors open at 9-30am for a 10am morning tea before Morning Melodies begin.
Thank you to the members who continually suport the MPSCR events, it is always much appreciated, also a very big thank you to those who make financial donations, without your donations it would be impossible to keep MPSCR operating. Most people assume that Victoria Police fund MPSCR, that is not the case, MPSCR has always been self funded and has to raise all monies to keep the register operating. In years gone by the concerts we would regularly hold with the brilliant Victoria Police
Showband, Pipe Band, Rock Band and the local school Drum Corps conducted by Mornington Police officer Mick Meares, where we would fill the Peninsula Community Theatre and would raise enough money to keep the register running until the next concert. It is so sad that today the only Victoria Police Band that is still performing is the Pipe Band. In March 2026 the register will celebrate 25 years of service to our community, I look forward to seeing many of you on Thursday 19th March 2026.
Further particulars are in this newsletter.
My heartfelt thanks to the following volunteers and friends of the register for their continuing support :- To all the volunteers, there would not be a register without you, special thanks to the volunteers who keep the office running, Mary, Dencil, Jude, Margaret, Irena, Helen, Jill, Leah and Trish, to Grant Campbell for his expertise in editing the newsletter, to Federal MP Zoe McKenzie and State MP Chris
Home Visits?
Crewther for both sharing the printing of our newsletters. I look forward to working with you all again in 2026.
I wish you all a happy, peaceful and safe Christmas and New Year.
Kind regards Yvonne Morrison MPSCR Coordinator.
Thankyou
Thankyou to the owner Matt Gordon and his team of technicians at 'SolutionOne' for Matt's very generous donation on upgrading our Data Base software to Windows 11 and replacing the old office Laptop with a new updated Laptop, all free of charge. For all computer problems 'Solution one' is who to contact, and ~
Thank you for solution one that SolutionOne was successful in returning the MPSCR office HP printer that was faulty from day one and replaced it with a Brother printer at no extra cost and this printer is fantastic.
To those members who may have had changes to their details, maybe a new doctor, next of kin or change of address, it’s most important to update your details at the MPSCR register Database. Next time you are near the MPSCR office, can you call in and check your details with us.
Would register members like a regular home visit either weekly, fortnightly or monthly on a Monday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday, as we have some vacancies at present?
If any member would also like a regular phone call on a Monday, Wednesday or Friday, please call into the office just inside the front door of Mornington Police Station or contact the office on 5970 4983, if the office is unattended please leave a message with your name and telephone number on our answering machine and please speak clearly.
The office is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 10am to 1pm.
The Mornington Police Station has been closed again today, Wednesday 12th November due to lack of staff. This is happening more and more and when the station is closed the MPSCR volunteers are unable to have access to our office, which means phone calls and home visits cannot be attended to on that day. We don't know what days the station will be closed and therefore are unable to contact anyone to notify them beforehand. I do apologise to anyone who was expecting a home visit or a phone call but hope you understand the situation the police force is presently in. Sadly Police Station closures are now a sign of the times!
Grant, Brenda gave me a cutting from this cacti many years ago from your garden. It is beautiful this year and has many more flowers. I refer to it as Brenda. Cheers, Yvonne.

Message from a doctor
Message from a doctor, please read this very useful information.
Whenever, I teach clinical medicine to students in the fourth year of medicine, I ask the following question: "What are the causes of mental confusion in the elderly"?
Some answer: " Tumours in the head", others suggest: " Early symptoms of Alzheimer's".
Answer: No and with each rejection of their answers, their responses dry up and they are even more openmouthed, when I tell them the most common cause is DEHYDRATION.
It may sound like a joke; but it isn't, people over 60 generally stop feeling thirsty and consequently, stop drinking fluids and when no one is around to remind them to drink fluids, they quickly dehydrate. DEHYDRATION is severe and affects the entire body. It may cause abrupt mental confusion, a drop in blood pressure, increased heart palpitations, angina[chest pain], coma and even death.
This habit of forgetting to drink fluids, begins at age 60 when we have just over 50% of the water we should have in our bodies, people over 60 have a lower water reserve. This is part of a natural aging process. But there are more complications, although they are dehydrated they don't feel like drinking water, because their internal balance mechanisms don't work very well.
CONCLUSION: People over 60 years old dehydrate very easily, not only because they have a smaller water supply but also because they do not feel the lack of water in their body.
Although people over 60 may look healthy, the performance of reactions and chemical functions can damage their entire body, so here are two alerts:
FIRSTLY, get into the habit of drinking liquids. Liquids include water, juices, teas, coconut water, soups and water rich fruits, such as water melon, peaches, pineapple and oranges also work.
The important thing to remember is that, every two hours you must drink some liquid.
SECONDLY, for family members, constantly offer fluids to those over 60. At the same time, observe them and if you realize that they are rejecting liquids from one day to the next, they are irritable, breathless or display a lack of attention, these are almost certainly recurrent symptoms of DEHYDRATION.
Send this information to others. Do it now, your family and friends and their families need to know this information to help you and other elderly people to be healthier and happier. It is good to share this with people over 60.
It is important that you notify the office when you know you are going to be away for any amount of time, especially if you have regular telephone calls and or Home Visits. In order to keep the data base up to date we require the date you are leaving and the date you will be returning. If you are suddenly taken to hospital or in respite or you have gone in to permanent care, if possible please ask a family member or friend to let the office know on 5970 4983. Thank you.
Police Liaison Officer’s Report
Mornington Police
Senior Community Register Police Liaison Officer Report
Hi everyone,
Here at the station, we were very sad to see LSC Greg Kraus retire but are all fully aware it’s a welldeserved retirement after 30 years of service, but he will be missed.
Senior Constable Nikki Person and I (Senior Constable Stuart Hart) will be taking over Gregs role, very big boots to fill hence why it has taken two of us to fill them!
We are heading into Summer which for Mornington and the surrounds means our busy period especially on our roads, I encourage you all to be mindful of the extra traffic and to drive safely.
You may have seen the large electronic signs dotted around Mornington, the message is to lock your house and car doors. A lot of these crimes are being committed because doors or windows are not secure. I would encourage you to install CCTV, they can be purchased at an affordable rate at stores like Bunnings.
If you see any suspicious behaviour in your street especially late at night, then please ring 000 and Police will attend.
Justice of the peace will be at the Mornington Station every Monday and Thursday between 11am - 2pm. Have a lovely summer, stay safe.
Stuart HART | Senior Constable VP45543 Mornington Police
Station
CARRY YOUR
MPSCR
ID CARD WITH YOU
When joining the register you will be sent an ID card that will have your ID number on it. It is important to carry this card with you when away from home at all times. Should the need arise and you require assistance this card is readily available to emergency services or the attending officers to link them back to the MPSCR database where all your details are kept. The attending services will then be able to safely deliver you home or notify your next of kin should it be necessary.

This year's very moving Blue Ribbon Police Remembrance Day for all fallen police officers. The Service was held at the War/Police Memorial and Eternal flame at the Rosebud RSL on September 29th 2025. Photo below is of Mornington Police Officer Senior Sergeant Dean Delle-Vergini on my right and my son Rosebud Police Officer Acting Senior Sergeant James Keegan on my left. Photo at the top is police officers from all areas who attended the service standing behind the Eternal Flame. My son read 'The Ode To A Police Officer' during the service. Yvonne Morrison.
Police Ode
As the sun surely sets: dawn will see it arise, for service, above self, demands its own prize. You have fought the good fight: life’s race has been run, and peace, your reward, for eternity begun. And we that are left, shall never forget, rest in peace friend and colleague, for the sun has now set. We will remember. Hasten the dawn.
