Volunteer Jude Holloway and myself attended the excellent Crime Forum held by Federal MP Zoe McKenzie. All the speakers were very interesting.
Jude and I are photographed with state MP Chris Crewther, Zoe McKenzie and one of the speakers.
In June a morning tea was held at the police station for Olga. Olga is our oldest register member at 104 years of age. In the photo are Sergeant Patrick Hayes, Yvonne Morrison, Leading Senior Constable Greg Kraus, volunteer Mary Booton, delightful Olga and volunteer Dencil Bannister.
Winter Greetings to you all, I can't believe that this newsletter is our August edition. I always thought that as you aged the years went slower, how wrong I am! I do hope you have been able to keep warm as we have certainly begun winter with very cold weather.
Don't forget to have your gas heater serviced regularly as a faulty gas heater can be a silent killer especially if it is an older model. If you have an open fire or a wood heater the chimney requires cleaning too as the build up of soot can easily catch fire. I have experienced the roar in the chimney when the build up of soot is ablaze, it is very frightening and can easily spread through the roof. A build up of soot is certainly not worth burning your house down.
Since our April newsletter, there have been two very sad events and one very happy event for the register.
A much loved volunteer of fourteen years, Brenda Campbell sadly
succumbed to Parkinsons disease. Brenda was a committee member, also the MPSCR representative on the day trips until she took on the role of the Home Visit Coordinator, Brenda held this position for many years.
Brenda and her husband Grant have also edited the MPSCR newsletter, Grant is kindly going to continue editing the newsletter. Thank you Grant, your ongoing assistance is very much appreciated. I was honoured when Grant asked me to speak at Brenda's funeral. Brenda is sadly missed by many at the register and will never be forgotten.
The Register's number one member, Ria Koetsier passed away in May. Ria and her then police officer daughter Tracy were
Yvonne presenting Tracy Watson a copy of her mother’s number one register application.
instrumental in starting the register twenty four years ago. Next year the register will celebrate its twenty fifth anniversary, so it is a very big
thank you to Ria and Tracy and all who assisted in getting the register finally up and running and for having the foresight in seeing the need for assisting in having social contact via phone calls or/and home visits to the elderly and most vulnerable living in Mount Eliza, Mornington and Mount Martha. This is still the main focus of the work our volunteers do today. Over 5,000 members have registered in the past twenty four years.
If you know of anyone in your area who would benefit from being on the register please tell them about us. To join the register, there is no charge or yearly fee, you just have to fill in an application form from the MPSCR office or ring the office on
5970 4983 and we can post an application form to you. It is entirely your decision if you would like to have regular phone calls and or home visits. If any of you who are already register members would like a social home visit or phone call please contact the MPSCR office on 5970 4983. If the office is unattended always leave a message where myself or an office assistant
will return your call. It is also important to understand why the word Community is part of our name. It is because we do not have an age limit for anyone wanting to join. if you have a disability, mild mental health problems, are lonely, isolated, grieving, you can join the register. Our members range in age from 18 to 104. You are never alone when you are a MPSCR member.
In May, the oldest member on our register turned 104. Olga is such an amazing lady with a very interesting life story, having followed her fiance to Australia from Norway many, many years ago. You may have read Olga's story in the Mornington News.
To those members who may have had changes to their details, maybe a new doctor, next of kin or change of address, it’s most important to update your details at the MPSCR register Database. Next time you are near the MPSCR office, can you call in and check your details with us.
An enjoyable morning tea was held for Olga, her neighbours, police officers and MPSCR Volunteers at the police station.
It is with heavy hearts that this year we bid farewell to the registers liaison officer of many years. Leading Senior Constable Greg
MPSCR volunteers David and Linda Smillie laid the wreath on behalf of register members and volunteers.
Kraus is retiring from Victoria Police. Nothing has ever been too much trouble no matter what the task Greg has been asked to perform and he has always done everything with a smile. On behalf of the committee, volunteers and register members may your retirement be all you want it to be. Our next liaison officer has huge boots to fill.
A huge thank you to you Greg for your many years of service to the register and to the community. In closing, until our next newsletter in December, I wish you all good health and happiness.
Kind regards Yvonne Morrison. MPSCR Coordinator.

Werribee Park Mansion was built between 1874 and 1877 in the Italianate-style by the pioneering pastoralists Thomas Chirnside (1815-1887) and his brother Andrew Chirnside (1818-1890), from Scotland, founders of the "Chirnside Pastoral Empire". Its residential and working buildings supported a large farm workforce. The rooms open to the public include the billiard room, the main bedrooms, the reception rooms and part of the kitchen.
The Melbourne newspaper "The Age" of Saturday 15 Dec 1877 on page 5 stated "There is on exhibition, in the window of Mr. W. R; Stevens, 78 Swanstonstreet, a picture, which is indicative of the immense fortunes made by some of those who have been lucky or clever enough to aggregate large treats of land in this colony. It is a representation of a mansion erected by Messrs. T. and A. Chirnside on their estate at Werribee Park, which appears to be one of the finest buildings of the kind in Victoria. The building was commenced between three and four years ago, and was designed by Mr. James H. Fox, architect, of this city, who has also had the superintendence of the works." After his death in November, 1877, the contracting equipment of Parlane Colquhoun was advertised for sale at Werribee Park in "The Age" of Tuesday 25 June 1878 on page 4. https://www.wikiwand.com/en/articles/Werribee_
Directions
Step 1
Preheat oven to 150°C. Grease a baking tray.
Step 2
Combine sieved flour, rice flour, sugar and salt in a bowl. Rub in butter and knead gently until a smooth dough forms.
Step 3
Transfer onto a floured surface. Carefully roll to desired thickness and using a cookie cutter, shape into stars.
Step 4
Place onto greased tray and prick with a fork. Bake in the oven for 20-30 minutes or until light golden. Allow to cool.
Step 5
Stack biscuits on top of each other and tie with string.
Ingredients
• 140g Cake (or Plain) Flour • 100g Grated Cheddar Cheese • 125g Melted butter • 40g Thick White Onion Soup Powder (Try Maggi or Continental French Onion Soup Powder)
• Turn Oven onto 200 deg C (use bake function with top and bottom bake if your oven has this setting as this will help lightly brown the top of the biscuits) • Grease a large baking tray, or line with baking paper. In a large mixing bowl stir all ingredients together. • Roll the dough into walnut sized balls. • Press each one lightly with a fork.
• Bake for 10 - 15 minutes until a light straw colour.
• If you don't have cake flour in your pantry, then you can substitute with plain flour. When you've measured out 140g of plain flour, take out a heaped tablespoon of plain flour and replace it with a heaped tablespoon of cornflour. This gives the biscuits a nice 'short' crunch.
If you're feeling a little risque try adding a pinch of mixed herbs to the mix, or finely chop some parsley or chives and add into the mixture before cooking.
Ingredients
225g plain flour, sifted 115g McKenzie's Rice Flour
115g caster sugar
1 pinch salt
225g butter, at room temperature

Senior Community Register
Police Liaison Officer Report
Hi everyone, we are almost halfway through the winter season and looking forward to some warmer weather ahead.
The messaging from police remains the same as we are still recording incidents of house burglaries and theft of motor cars from victims who remain complacent.
We are constantly amazed at how many people leave their homes and vehicles unlocked, which in turn make them easy targets for criminals.
Valuables should be removed from vehicles or at worst not in clear view of passersby’s. Lost keys
If you have lost house or car keys in the last 12mths please call in to the station and view our key box.
We literally have 100’s of keys that are looking for their owners.
Justice of the Peace will be working at the Mornington Police Station every Monday and Thursday between 11am – 2pm.
Stay safe, all the best.
Greg Kraus
Leading Senior Constable 26363

When joining the register you will be sent an ID card that will have your ID number on it. It is important to carry this card with you when away from home at all times. Should the need arise and you require assistance this card is readily available to emergency services or the attending officers to link them back to the MPSCR database where all your details are kept. The attending services will then be able to safely deliver you home or notify your next of kin should it be necessary.
