ly against the war on drugs, students believe that the actual process was not executed well due to lack of proper instructions. Stations for the test were destined at different places and there were no prior instructions on how to undergo the test. “Nabigla rin ako lalo na’t humigit kumulang 7 hours na akong pumila para lang doon. I am hoping for a more organized process kasi napaka-importante nito for the sake of the students.” Kim Arnie Gesmundo, an incoming first year student, said.
ADMIN According to the Office of Student Affairs Services (OSAS) chairperson, Alberto Castillo, students who will be recognized as positive in using drugs will undergo counseling. He furthered that after they conducted a canvass, Blesces Diagnostic Laboratory is the only accredited institution that can conduct the drug test. The said laboratory also has the lowest price that students can afford.***

Detoxify the Drug Examination SHARPSHOOTER FELIPE DIMACULANGAN SHS (OPINION EDITOR)

Following the government order, our university joined forces with BLESCES, a medical institution in San Pablo City, to conduct a mandatory drug test among old and new incoming students.
It is good that the government is hand-inhand with Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in monitoring possible drug use among students. In theory, it was a small sacrifice in exchange for the assurance of a safer environment. However, a program of this kind requires careful implementation. Everything must be wellplanned and systematized. Which, in practice, the university quite lacked. Students rushed to
dren had to pay money for a test which is most likely to yield a negative result. For them, the whole examination is not only long and tedious, but also useless. Yes, these criticisms are somewhat valid, and truth be told, they’re all right. It should’ve been handled with more care by the involved personnel. But what’s important to remember here is this: our university made a move.
be first in line every morning, so as to not exceed and be cut off from the queue limit. By noon, the line, which started from the Audio-Visual Education Center (AVEC), had already reached and extended past the Alumni Building. Several students even commented that had there been schedules for specific departments, it would have been easier. Aside from that, parents also had strong views about the whole process. From their standpoint, it is not only a burden for their children to line for who-knows how many hours. What irritates most of them is the fact that their innocent and drug-free chil-
It is help. We can claim all we want that we are all innocent, but that is not always the case. Perhaps one student is drug-dependent. Perhaps it was a friend whom we hold dear; who might succumb to more complications because of their dependency on the substance. Through this mandatory testing, it might not end that way. It may be a vague picture of a drug-free Philippines today, but it can start with us, we can be a vivid picture of a drug-free LSPU community. Was it a misstep? Yes, in more ways than one. Was it a step in the wrong direction? I believe not.***

Okay naman siya, kaso lang ang sama ng process. Kapag sa school, sobrang bagal and sobrang gulo pa ng pila. Sana mas organized next time para hindi mahirapan ang mga magulang at estudyante na kagaya namin.

Although it’s quite a hassle for us freshies to do the mandatory drug test, it is for our own and the school’s sake because I strongly disagree to accept students who’re using illegal drugs.
