BSU carpets 6th STRASUC-CAF

Two yearsafter thepandemic, Batangas State University Pablo Borbon Campus hosted the 6th Southern Tagalog RegionalAssociationofStateUniversities and Colleges Culture and the Arts Festival (STRASUC CAF) with the theme “Advancing Cultureand the Arts as Strategic Resource for National Development,” Nov15.

Dr. Levy Arago Jr., the chairperson of STRASUC and the President of the Western Philippines University (WPU) talked about his observation on the delegates and said, “Sa CALABARZON at MIMAROPA, hindi mahalaga ang kompetisyon. Pero ang mahalaga, kung paanonagkaisaangmgatao.”

Included in the opening of this year’s STRASUC is the exhibitofdifferentmunicipalities in Batangas and their mainproducts.

Thisyear’sSTRASUC CAF had less categories compared to the previous STRASUC due tothepandemic

Here is the list of the three day competition of STRASUC2022:

Jade Manalo secured the first gold medal for Laguna State Polytechnic University (LSPU) in the Southern Tagalog Regional Association of State Universities and Colleges Culture and theArtsFestival (STRASUC CAF) VocalSolo category, Nov.15.

With her soothing voice, the first year Tourism Management student silenced the whole gymnasium during her performance,withherownrendition of “Ililigtas Ka Nya” originally sung by Gary Valenciano.

Arena, Rollan hit the gold note in Vocal Duet

Vincent E. Rollan of Southern LuzonStateUniversity(SLSU) harmonized their way to the gold medal for Vocal Duet with their rendition of the OPM "Sana Maulit Muli" during the Southern Tagalog Regional Association of State Universities and Colleges Culture and the Arts Festival (STRASUC CAF),Nov.15.

SLSU its first gold medal for this year's STRASUC. On the other hand, MadelineB.Ocampo and Zdenalie J. Pagatpatan from University of the Philippines placed second; meanwhile,RiccaMaeG.Genetaand Omega D. Gobrin of Occidental Mindoro State College placed third.

The duo from SLSU will compete their next battle at the upcoming Philippine Association of State Universities andColleges(PASUC) Culture andtheArtsFestival.***

MSC’s Adrias captures first place in Photography

Rose Ann Adrias of Marinduque State College (MSC) won the first place in the Visual Arts Photography category in the Southern Tagalog Regional Association of State Universities and Colleges Culture and the Arts Festival (STRASUC CAF), held in November 15 at Batangas State University Pablo Borbon CampusLibrary.

Themed “Advancing Culture and the Arts as Strategic

ResourceforNationalDevelopment,” the MSC representative angled her lens beneath the feet of an old woman who was abouttosteponabamboo.

“Ang symbolism po ng steps at gawi rin po ay yung development po ng ating [culture and arts] sa nation,” shesaid.

Adrias also shared her struggles with her coach as they thought of the theme, which was broad. 03

LSPU’s Manalo wins PASUC ticket for Vocal Solo

...asked if she thinks there are flaws during her performance.

“Actually, sa prep, throughout sa prep, hindisa kampante pero tiwala na akokay Jade. Manalo,matalo, gagawin niya ang best niya Kaya hindi rin ako masyado nahirapan sa technicalities and preparation,” coach Danelle Fajot shares about their preparation for thevocalsolo.

Manalo secured the firsttickettothePhilippines Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC) for LSPU, while Pamila Ampong from Mindoro State University took home the second place, and Jaira Mae Caniedo of Romblon State University snatched the thirdplace.

Manalo will represent the Southern Tagalog (RegionIV)intheupcoming PASUC.***

Two days before the coronation night, candidates of Festival King and Queen faced the media partners of the Southern Tagalog Regional Association of State Universities and Colleges CultureandtheArts Festival (STRASUC CAF), Nov. 15.

Ms. Mary Rose Rivero asked the candidates of the Laguna State Polytechnic University (LSPU), Floriane Jerick Lajara and Byran Jay Barroga, how they see themselves inspiringtheyouthoftodayasa queenandking.

“Actually, that's why we arehereasabeautyqueen.We are here to empower others. By our nature, it is what we are advocating for,” Lajara answered.

Shealsosaidthattheculture of psychology has the powertoadvocateforthepeopleandsociety,whichshepursues as a BS Psychology student.

Meanwhile, Barroga answered that his way of inspiring the youth is through the pageant,aspageantscanspeak forthevoiceless.

“And I think I can influence other people through sharing our stories, our differences here. I believe that we

areindividuallybeautifulandindividuallycapabledoingsuch thingsjustaswearedoingtoday,”headded.

Experiencing the Culture of Batangas

The province of Batangas revered as the “land of beauty and bravery” is not only knownforitsmanyscenicspots,itsdistinctTagalogaccent,anditsstrongbarakocoffee,but alsoforitsrichculturalheritageandtheBatanguenos’passionforit.

Incelebrationofthe6thCultureandtheArtsFestival(CAF)oftheSouthernTagalogRegional Association of State Universities and Colleges (STRASUC), delegates and school officialsfromthe12participatingSUCsassembledoncemoreforaweek longface to face competitionaftermorethantwoyearsofeventhiatus.

Inlinewith this,hostcampusBatangasStateUniversity(BSU)sharedatasteofitsculture through an exhibit of delicacies and souvenirs unique to the respective towns of the province. This STRASUC Exhibit was set upat the Higher Education Building lobby of Pablo BorbonCampusasorganizedbytheLipaCityCooperativesOffice,togetherwiththeuniversity.

Among the exhibited goods were the best products and souvenirs from the different municipalities of Batangas, namely: traditionally weaved local clothes from Ibaan; pasalubongs products made by the Aeta community from Balayan; coffee products, turmeric and tea,andpasalubonggoodsfromLipa;cocosyrup,cocovinegar,andcocosugarfromSanJuan; andshirtsanduniquesouvenirsfromCalatagan,

University presidents of the delegations of the STRASUC CAF 2022 during the community parade, BatSU Pablo Borbon PRIDE. LSPU vocal duet performs their own rendition of Muli by Gary Valenciano. DETERMINED. Presidents of 12 state universities and colleges as they support the program and aim of the 2022 STRASUC CAF. WIT. 2022 STRASUC CAF Kings and Queens show their intelligence and communication skills during the press briefing, Nov. 15. WELCOMING. Before the start of the opening ceremony, BatStateU students welcome all the participating SUCs with their local dances as they lead the parade. PASUC QUALIFIER. Jade Manalo of LSPU advances to the next stage as she will represent the Region 4 to the upcoming PASUC Culture and the Arts Festival. PARADE OF COLORS. The kick off of 2022 STRASUC Culture and the Arts Festival started with the entrance of colors and delegations parade. CHEERS OF PRIDE. LSPU performers and coach- es filled the event with colorful outfits and energetic. SWAY. Cheerful presence of the LSPU delegates brighten up the host campus during the community parade as part of the opening ceremony. DELEGATION. Twelve participating schools in 6th Culture and the Arts Festival gather in BatSU Pablo Borbon Multi Purpose gymnasium.

Nakuha ng binata ang simpatyanginampalangamit ang awiting “Pakiusap” ni FranciscoSantiago.

“Ang prayer ko lang talaga ay mag perform nang maayos, saka yung will ni Lord,”wikangbinata.

Missy Adovas of Laguna State Polytechnic University (LSPU) pecked bronze medal in the Southern Tagalog Regional Association of State Universities and Colleges Culture and the Arts Festival (STRASUC CAF) Vocal Arts Kundiman competition held at the President's OfficeofBatangasStateUniversity Pablo Borbon Campus (BSU PBC),Nov.15.

Like a melodious songbird, Adovas sang “Ang Maya” by Jose Estrella in perfect falsettoandvibrato.

“Isang malaking bunot po ng tinik [sa dibdib,]” she said when asked what she felt after

she was declared as one of the winners. “After ng kanta ko,nag setnapoakongplace na inaanticipate ko [it’s between] 3rd or 4th [place] base sa mga [nadinig] ko sa mga contestants” she revealed.

Moreover,thekundiman bronze medalist plans to practice moreher connection with her accompanist for an more effective expression of kundimansongs.

Judges reminded everyone that a key to seize the kundiman competition is to search for a song that blends withyourvoice.
