The Story of Our Mentee and Us
By Mr. Yuen and Ms. Wan

TT is a Form 4 student. He is quite introverted and he does not talk much. He does not have much confidence when talking with people. His hobby is playing online games. He can spend more than 4 hours each day on online games. It seems that he has no specific goal in his study and future career.
Our Mentee

As the Maths and English teachers of TT, we have a sincere interest in helping this student to improve his motivation and confidence. We initiated a chat with our mentee and took time to get to know him, including his background, personality, hobbies, needs, etc. After building a stronger relationship, TT also became more open to letting us know more about him.
Preparing the relationship

Changes
He showed us some awareness of need to change because he told us that he would like to get a better school result. We also noticed that he needed to be more confident about himself. We started to set the learning and development goals with him. He is willing to stay behind after school to do maths exercises to prepare for tests and examinations.

He is also more active to participate in more English learning activities. He is now more willing to get along and work with other students. His learning motivation and confidence has also improved a lot.

Teachers can have more trust in their students and be more proactive in helping students to discover and develop their potential. Through a mentoring relationship, students can improve their learning attitude and motivation. Their self-esteem can be strengthened. We believe if teachers and students can both make some changes together, they will constitute a difference and achieve great success.
