TUF x UBS Pen Pal

(with Partner School collaboraon)

In October, we kick-started our first Pen Pal Program, co-organized by UBS and Teach Unlimited Foundaon, with China Holiness Church Living Spirit College and Kamaishi High School in Japan. Although parcipants are miles away, there is no barrier for them to develop friendship and share their lives with each other.

With the support from the UBS volunteers, our students have stepped out of their comfort zone to acvely interact with Japanese students using English. They have expressed their impression and love towards Japan, and shared their school life in Hong Kong. We are grateful to see their posive atude towards the program. In the coming sessions, they will connue to develop in-depth friendships with Japanese students through this inspiring and meaningful program.

OCTOBER 2022 Edition

Jockey Club Teach Unlimited “Walk with Youth” Mentorship Programme

New Staff Profile

Hello all, this is Jamie! A 1st-year mentor staoned in China Holiness Church Living Spirit College at Tai Po. Lucky enough to have received educaon at the University of York had shaped my perspecves and vision in educaon. Throughout my studies, I have come to realize the tremendous impact that school-life experience has on predicng one’s future, and the educators’ role in it. For someone who has been long-determined to contribute to the educaon sector, I couldn’t help wondering what I could do on my part to impact as posively as possible. As for now, I see mentorship as the key: a key to bringing desirable changes to the convenonal HK educaon system; a key to providing extra resources and support for disadvantaged students; and a key to developing myself as a competent and responsible educator.

New Staff Profile

Hey there, I am Jeff, a Year 1 Program Mentor from TUF. Speaking of my background, I graduated from the City University of Hong Kong majoring in Biomedical Engineering. It is my faith that there are unique potenals in every teenager waing to be unleashed. My mission is to help them, especially the disadvantaged ones, explore their possibilies. As being on this road before, I used to feel lost and desperate in my adolescence either. Luckily, I was surrounded by some passionate teachers who supported me through the wringer. With great power, there must also come great responsibility. Thus, I would like to devote myself to inspiring the younger in TWGHs Mrs. Fung Wong Fung Ting College aer being capable. Joanne and I are looking forward to the upcoming year, which may be challenging but definitely fulfilling and meaningful for us. Stay tuned!

Hello! This is Joanne, a Year 1 Program Mentor of TWGHs Mrs. Fung Wong Fung Ting College. I graduated from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, majoring in Biological Science.

In my 4 years of university life, I had internships at different educaonal NGOs, including Teach Unlimited Foundaon. I witnessed the impacts of different intervenons and the changes to them.

School is a place that full of many possibilies. In the coming years, I hope to walk with students, inspire them with different possibilies and unleash their fullest potenals.

In Aug 2022, 8 Program Mentors have a series of inducon training sessions. All of them are well-equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to become a professional. As a Year 2 Mentor, these workshops allow us to review, reflect and refresh.

The whole inducon training is a fruiul process for all the Mentors. Leadership development sessions are the foundaon for all pracces. These leadership workshops provide a concrete and solid mindset to be a leader at school. What’s more, English learning and teaching workshops also offer effecve and interesng ways to learn English with students. We also treasured the alumni sharing which gives construcve feedback and suggesons to all newcomers. We have greatly benefited from the inducon training and we will surely lead a posive impact in schools.

Dream Pursuing Fesval 2022 was held virtually on three Saturdays during April and May (9/4, 30/4 and 7/5). Even with the special holiday and the pandemic, we sll hoped to inspire students to explore future possibilies and pursue their passions.

On the first Saturday, over 160 students and teachers parcipated in our opening ceremony and Human Library. We invited the founder of one of the most popular YouTube Channels, Ko Ling@Pomato, to do a sharing of how he pursued his dream of making videos. During the sharing, students were so interested in knowing more about the guest’s stories and they kept asking quesons on Zoom! We also invited five guests of different occupaon to share their stories with parcipants. Our guests even sent out some souvenirs related to their occupaon to parcipants to have more in-depth understanding of the careers.

On the second and third Thursday, we organized dream dining — different hands-on workshops for students to have various learning experiences. More importantly, we hoped they understand goals and dreams could be achieved by paying efforts. Themes of workshops included fitness, personal branding, Calligraphy with Watercolor Floral Wreath etc. Before the workshops, we organized team-building acvies for students from different schools. In the hands-on workshops, students enjoyed the process a lot and some of them even shared their end products on the padlet.

The Dream Pursuing Fesval was just the beginning for students to understand the journey of dream pursuing. We believe that students are equipped with their compass and will connue to explore their paths with guests and program mentors’ support.

Mentorship Training Plaorm Launch!

Operaon Desk

At the beginning of the new school calendar, I will wish the new cohort of Program Mentors, Eric, Jamie, Jeff, Joanne, and Victoria a warm welcome on board. I know that they are going to enjoy becoming part of the crew here. We run a ght ship where everyone supports everyone else with great posivity and a can-do atude. I am sure that they will fit right in. Aer the one-month intensive skill-based pre-placement training in August, they would be ready to begin the mentoring program in our partner schools.

Join me in welcoming HKTA Ching Chung Secondary School and TWGHs Mrs. Fung Wong Fung Ting Secondary School to start the 5-year school-based Mentoring and Educaon Support Program. Together we will provide quality and structured mentoring program at every opportunity to make a posive change to the students.

In September, we iniated a new project to upgrade the Online Tracking System (OTS). The main objecve is to enhance the effecve use of the system by removing bugs, improving ease of use and encouraging a higher usage for the users. Stay tuned for the new version in 2023.
