Over 4 days Hobart’s docks and wharfs saw thousands of people and hundreds of ships and boats, leaving the 2023 AWBF a exceptionally successful event. Scouts Tasmania can’t wait for 2025!
North West Bay Sea Scouts participated in the recent AWBF, with two teams entered into the Quick N Dirty boat building competition.

Over 3 days the teams designed and built their boats. On the final day they attempted to sail the boats, or rather paddled their boats in the race. The youth had a practice session prior to the event.
During the AWBF weekend they built the boats on the Saturday, painted the exterior to make it waterproof and decorated the boat on the Sunday. They raced around Constitution Dock on the Monday.
Team Buccaneers, with their boat
“The Black Swan” won the Best Boat Construction and finished second in the race, whilst “Titanic II” from Team Mayday floated beautifully and wreaked havoc with their water pistols and flour bombs.
