Felipe Arias Head Coach

As a coach with a decade and a half of experience in Florida and Maine, Arias has coached both boys’ and girls’ soccer in a premier club and high school level.

2nd Season Bryan College, ‘95 Felipe Arias enters his second season as the head coach of the women’s soccer program at Texas A&M International University. During his first season in charge, the Dustdevils finished 1-16-1 in 2016 while freshman Cio Bargallo earned 3rd Team All-Heartland Conference honors after scoring a team-high six goals and setting a school record for shots in a season. Previously to being named the head coach of the women’s program, Arias served as an assistant for the Dustdevils for three years under his brother, Claudio. The brothers reunited for the frist time since playing together at Bryan College in Dayton, Tenn. the Dustdevils men’s and women’s soccer programs this fall with more than 15 years coaching experience and collegiate playing experience. Arias will reunited and team up with his brother, Texas A&M International head men’s and women’s soccer coach Claudio Arias, for the first time since the pair played together at Bryan College in Dayton, Tenn.

Before relocating to Laredo, Arias served as a director of coaching for the Central Maine United Soccer Club’s Premier level. He holds coaching certifications with the U.S. Soccer Federation and the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Splitting time with coaching, he worked as an individual and group counselor and support group coordinator. Arias, when off the pitch, is passionate about the performing arts. He has been active in community musical theater, has recorded two Spanish albums, and been a contributing part of local Opera and benefit musical events in Waterville and Pittsfield, Maine. Arias and his wife Brigitte have been married for 22 years and have four children – Melanie, Paula, Gabriel and Samuel. Both Melanie and Paula are NCAA studentathletes at Union University in Jackson, Tenn.

Felipe grew up playing as a goalkeeper in his native Concepción, Chile, before transitioning into a traditional midfielding role for the Lions. He was offered professional opportunities to play in Chile, but instead opted to pursue his higher education in the form of a B.A. in Psychology from Bryan College in and a M.A. in Mental Health Counseling from Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando, Fla. As a Lion, Arias earned high acclaim in his junior and

Moctezuma begins his first season as an assistant coach for both the men’s and women’s soccer programs at Texas A&M International University in 2017 where he will work primarily with the goalkeepers. He comes to Laredo after spending the past spring in the same role at Western Texas College in Snyder, Texas. During his time as a Westerner, Moctezuma worked under former Dustdevil Jovany Macias. Moctezuma returns to Laredo as he played for the Dustdevils from 2014-15 making 14 appearances in goal. He had his best season in 2014 going 7-6-0 making a team-high 54 saves and allowing 26 goals for a 1.85 goals against average. He ranks in the top 10 in career shutouts, wins and saves. Before transferring to TAMIU, Moctezuma starred at Richland College where he played in two national tournaments while earning 1st Team All-Region honors in 2013. He also played semi-professional with the Upward Stars (NSPL) and Midland-Odessa Shockers (PDL). In 2016, he was part of a Shockers team that made franchise history in claiming their first Southern Conference Championship en route to a place in the PDL National Semifinals. The Dallas, Texas native graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business administration from TAMIU in December of 2016.

An original staff member, Ernst Feisner is in his 16th year as head athletic trainer at Texas A&M International University. He supervises a wide-range of responsibilities pertaining to the physical well being of student-athletes ranging from injury prevention to injury rehabilitation. Prior to arriving in Laredo in 2002, Feisner served for four years as the first full time assistant athletic trainer at William Paterson University. He studied movement science with a concentration in athletic training at William Paterson University, receiving his bachelor’s degree in 1991. He then moved on to the University of North Carolina where he spent two years earning his master degree in Physical education with a concentration in sports medicine. During his time in Chapel Hill he also worked as an athletic trainer for the Tarheel cross country, swimming and diving, softball, and men’s basketball teams and taught courses in archery, weight training, raquetball, conditioning and laboratory instruction in cadaver anatomy. He began his career at Belmont Abbey College as head athletic trainer in 1993, before moving on to Earlham College in 1995. After three years at Earlham College he returned to his Alma Mater taking the job as the first full time assistant athletic trainer. Feisner has held several professional certifications including the Athletic Trainer Certification (ATC), Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist Certification (CSCS), and Nutritional Advisor Certification (CNA). He currently holds a Texas License for athletic training and has worked as an examiner for the Texas State Licensing Exam. In addition, he has worked with several of Laredo’s professional minor league teams over the past decade including the Laredo Broncos, Laredo Heat, Laredo Law and Laredo Red Raiders. He also served as the chair of the sports medicine department of the Heartland Conference for five years during his time at TAMIU.

Jarvis Christian College: Started in 18 games in goal for Jarvis Christian College in 2016 where she played 1,640 minutes. She finished the season with 129 saves for a .662 save percentage.

Personal: Salazar is the daughter of Juan and Rosa Salazar and has three siblings, Edith, Victor and Tadeo. She chose to attend TAMIU because it is a university that makes her feel welcome and has a great environment. Her parents are the most inspirational figures in her life.

Sacramento, Calif. Folsom Lake College

Folsom Lake College: Hall started in all 22 games in goal for the FLC team that made it to the CCCAA Final Four in 2016. She only allowed 12 goals throughout the season for a 0.62 goals against average while making 66 saves. She was even more impressive in conference place with a save percentage of .885 while allowing 0.45 goals per game. She earned NSCAA All-Region honors as a goalkeeper in 2015.

Personal: Hall is the daughter of Steven and Dawn Hall and has one brother, Daniel. She chose to attend TAMIU because of the great soccer program and exceptional science department. It will give her the opportunity to pursue her interest in biology while playing the game she loves. The most inspirational figure in her life is Aslynn Harris. After graduating with her degree, Hall would like to have a career working with animals.

2016: Bargallo made an immediate impact as a freshman starting in 17 matches for the Dustdevils in 2016 where she earned Heartland Conference 3rd Team accolades. She led the team in with six goals, 12 points, 69 shots and 27 shots on goal while ranking third in minutes played with 1,429. She scored her first career goal against Colorado Christian on Sept. 4. She recorded her first multi-goal match of her career in a 2-2 draw against Rogers State on Oct. 20. She also recorded a career-high 10 shots including four ontarge against St. Mary’s on Sept. 7. Personal: Bargallo is the daughter of Maria and Joan Aragones. Has two brothers, Josep and Roc. Majoring in psychology at TAMIU.

Kimbolton, England Nene Park Academy High School: Nene Park Academy Participated in soccer, field hockey and rounders while excelling in the classroom receiving a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport and Exercise Performance.

Personal: Tonkin is the daughter of David and Tracy Tonkin and has two siblings, Amy and Daniel. She chose to attend TAMIU because they offered her an opportunity to gain an education while playing the sport she loves. Her mother is the inspirational figure in her life. After graduation, she plans on playing soccer professionally while pursuing a master’s degree.

High School: Early College High School She played on the defensive side of the ball for a majority of her four-year high school career. Personal: Salinas is the daughter of Miguel and Maria Salinas and has two brothers, Miguel and Marco.

2016: Garcia appeared in 16 matches including 15 starts in 2016 registering 1,205 minutes as a defender for the Dustdevils. She finished the season with five shots, one of which was on-target for a shot on goal percentage of .200. She played 77 minutes in the Dustdevils 1-0 victory over Oklahoma Christian on Oct. 15. 2015: In her first season with the Dustdevils Brenda played in five games. She started four of those games, racking up 231 minutes played. Personal: Garcia is the daughter of Elsa and Pablo Garcia. She has two siblings, Pablo Jr. and Priscilla. Brenda chose TAMIU for the opportunities that the school and soccer program offered. Her most inspirational figure is her son.

Jarvis Christian College: Started and played in 30 games during her two-year career as a Bulldog. She registered seven shots, six of which were on-target during her sophomore season. She was named to the Red River Athletic Conference Champions of Character Team. Personal: Escandon is the daughter of Esther Mendieta and has two siblings, Estela and Victor. She chose to attend TAMIU because she saw it an opportunity to play soccer and get a better education.

2016: Colmenares started in all 18 matches in the midfield for the Dustdevils after joining the program as a transfer in 2016. She recorded the third-most minutes on the team, 1,582, where she had nine shots with six of those being on-target for a shot on goal percentage of .667. She had a careerhigh two shots against Rogers Sate during both matches they faced each other. Personal: Colmenares is daughter of Esperanza Siordia and David Colmenares. She is the sister to Celeste, Bianca and David. She chose TAMIU because she felt welcomed and at home when she met both men’s and women’s soccer team along with the coaches. She also enjoyed the fact that the campus wasn’t as big which is something she was used to. Personal: Macias is the daughter of Jose and Maria Macias and has four siblings, Mariela, Jose, Tania and Jovany. She chose to attend TAMIU because she wanted to represent her hometown of Laredo. Cristiano Ronaldo is her inspirational figure. She hopes to pursue a Master’s Degree in Business Management and get a good job after finishing her eligibility.

High School: Waxahachie High School Rivas was a four-year starter for WHS as she earned All-District honors twice during her career. She picked up honorable mention honors as a sophomore before making the 1st team as a junior.

Personal: Rivas is the daughter of Richard and Andree Rivas and has two siblings, Vanessa and Anthony. She chose to attend TAMIU because she felt the most at home with the team and campus. 2016: Ruiz made an immediate impact as a freshman for the Dustdevils where she played in 17 matches including 15 starts registering 1,302 minutes. She scored one goal and one assist for a total of three points on 10 shots, five of which were on-target for a shot on goal percentage of .500. Her first career goal came against Colorado Christian on Sept. 4 followed by her first career assist in the following match against St. Mary’s.

2016: Castro appeared in 17 matches including six starts as a freshman forward for the Dustdevils registering 642 minutes. She finished the season with a team-high three assists, two of those coming in a career-high 90 minutes against St. Mary’s on Sept. 7. She ranked second on the team with 18 shots and nine shots on goal for a shot on goal percentage of .500.

Personal: Ruiz is the daughter of Irma and Juan Carlos Ruiz. She is joined by her siblings Karla and Juan Diego. Ruiz chose TAMIU because it was the best fit for her and her family. The university wasn’t far from home and was very welcoming for her as she felt safe in attending TAMIU. In addition, being able to be part of the university’s soccer team was a dream come true for Ruiz. Her most inspirational figure is her father because he has always supported her ever step, guiding her along the way.

Personal: Castor is the daughter of Gracie Martinez Castro and Manuel Castro. She is joined by her three brothers: Manny Castro, Rolando and Victor Reza. Castro chose TAMIU to help lead her to a great future. Her most inspirational figure is her mother. Her future aspirations and goals are to become a great example for the younger generation. Castro’s favorite athlete is Leonel Messi who currently plays for FC Barcelona and the Argentinian National Team.

Personal: Schott is the daughter of Jeffrey, Carla Schott and her step mother Edith Schott. She has four siblings, Brittany, Zachary Doolittle, Kasey and Colton. She chose to come to TAMIU because she received a scholarship to play the game she loves and likes the opportunities to study abroad that are offered. Her grandmother, Karen Codner, is her inspirational figure. After graduation she plans on becoming a geneticist.

High School: Bel Air High School Cohen was rated as the 137th best player in Texas during her senior season. She had one of the most prolific careers in Bel Air women’s soccer history scoring 136 goals, 51 assists for 323 points as a three-year starter. She was named the El Paso Times’ All-City Girls Soccer Player of the Year as a senior where she scored 62 goals including a five goal outing against Riverside High School on Jan. 20 that earned her MaxPreps/NSCAA Texas High School Player of the Week honors. Personal: Cohen is the daughter of Stephen and Erika Cohen and has three siblings, Frank, Alison and Stephen.

High School: Cafuta captained her soccer team as a senior. She also competed in volleyball. She played club soccer for the Clarkson Soccer Club from 2010-17. In 2016-17, she played in the Ontario Youth Soccer League in her final season with the club.

2016: Perez appeared in 11 matches during her freshman season registering a total of 125 minutes. She played a career-high 24 minutes against Adams State in the season opener for the Dustdevils. She had four shots, one of which was ontarget for shot on goal percentage of .250.

Personal: Cafuta is the daughter of John Cafuta and Sonja Vidovic. She chose to come to TAMIU because she felt at home and welcomed by the student and staff when she visit. She also likes that the campus is not too big and easy to navigate. Her inspirational figure is her mother as she has taught her many life lessons and has worked extremely hard her entire life. Upon completing her degree at TAMIU, she plans on working as a business woman for a major corporation in either the U.S. or Canada.

Personal: Perez is the daughter of Martha Perez. She is joined by her four siblings: Oscar Alberto, Daniel Alejandro, Luz Maria, and Fernanda. Perez chose TAMIU because it has all the opportunities she needs to succeed all while being in the comforts of her hometown. Her most inspirational figure is her mother. Her future aspirations and goals are to open up her own physical therapy clinic in Laredo. Her favorite athlete is Sydney Leroux, an olympic gold medalist who plays for the United States Women’s National Team.

Personal: Draggon is daughter of Marlene and Dave Draggon. She is joined by three siblings: Jelisa, David, and Amaryah Draggon. Draggon joined TAMIU for their emphasis on good educational facilities with highly qualified professors to try to endure that every student has the same opportunities available to them. She also enjoyed the size of the university which is not to small nor to big, just right for her. Her most inspirational figure is her mother becuase of the type of hardworking and dedicating mother she is, who constantly tries to make everyone around her happy.
