Bryan Weakley enters his sixth season as the head coach at Texas A&M International University. Weakely is TAMIU’s all-time winningest coach. In his five seasons at TAMIU, Weakley has led the Dustdevils to two Heartland Conference titles and five confernce tournament appearances, including a trip to the NCAA Tournament in 2014.

for the second time in program history. It was TAMIU’s third Heartland title in nine years of conference play. The Dustdevils fell to Tarleton state in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Weakley has coached nine Heartland All-Conference performers and 26 Heartland Academic All-Conference performers in his time with the Dustdevils. TAMIU has won 10 or more conference games in three of his five seasons in Laredo.

Weakley has a career record of 87-58 (.600) in his five seasons with the Dustdevils and is 54-36 (.600) in Heartland games. During the past season, Weakley led the Dustdevils to another 20-win season, his second 20-win season at TAMIU. The Dustdvils posted a 13-5 conference record for a three-way tie for the regular season title. Weakley coached Denzel Bellot to First Team All-Conference honors. Weakley has had great success at the TAMIU Kinesiology & Convocation Building, amassing a career record of 5619 (.787) at home. He also has an incredible 31-14 (.689) home record in Heartland Games. During the 2015-16 season, the Dustdevils finished 18-11 and 13-7 in conference play. Weakley coached Anthony Alston to First Team All-Conference honors as well as Arkeem Joseph to honorable mention honors. In 2014-15, the Dustdevils finished 12-16 overall and were 7-13 in Heartland play. During the 2013-14 season, Weakley led the Dutsdevils to a 22-9 overall record with Jordan Clark being named the conference’s defensive player of the year. TAMIU finished 13-5 in Heartland play and won the conference tournament

Weakley was named the fifth coach in TAMIU history at the conclusion of the 2011 season. In his first season, 2012-13, he led that Dustdevils to a 15-12 record and a fourth-place finish in the conference standings as Matthew Culliver Jr. was named the conference’s newcomer of the year. During his three seasons as associate head coach (200912) at TAMIU, he was part of staff that compiled a 54-32 record, winning two Heartland Conference championships and earning an appearance in the NCAA tournament for the first time. He was instrumental in helping Evan Matteson earn NCAA Division II Bulletin All-American Honorable Mention recognition. Matteson was later drafted by the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the NBA D-League. Weakley earned all-conference and all-american honors at Biola College leading the Eagles to 112 wins and four straight national tournament appearances during his career. He earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education and a minor in biblical studies in 2002. He began his coaching career in England. During his tenure as the head coach at Middlesex University (2004-05) he led the team to a perfect 30-0 record and the school’s first BUSU National Tournament title. He also served as a development coach for the British Basketball League’s London Towers during

his time overseas. Weakley got his first taste of coaching at the collegiate level when he joined the staff at Alaska Anchorage (2005-09) as an assistant. He was part of a Seawolves staff which achieved victories nationally recognized NCAA Division I and II opponents. In 2007-08, the Seawolves posted the best record in school history (29-6) en route to the program’s first Final Four appearance. They entered the NCAA tournament as the No. 1 seed after being ranked in the Top-10 nationally throughout the season. He and his wife Terra are the parents of three children, Jonathan, Makiah and Dathan. His father, Scott, and brothers, Kevin and Jason, all earned all-american honors at the collegiate level.

Taylor begins his fourth season at TAMIU and first as associate head coach where he has been instrumental in building the Dustdevils into one of the top programs in the Heartland Conference compiling an overall record of 51-37 while helping Bunjay Yaboe and Vadal Faniel earn allconference honors. The 2016-17 season saw the Dustdevils claim the program’s third Heartland Conference Regular Season Championship and appear in their second-straight conference tournament as they finished the campaign with an overall record of 20-10 and 13-5 in Heartland play. Prior to being hired at TAMIU, Taylor served as the assistant coach at Eastern Wyoming College for four years leading the Lancers to a pair of NJCAA Region IX Championships and two apperances in the NJCAA national tournament. He also served as an assistant at Grand Canyon University where he earned a Master’s Degree in Business Leadership. Taylor began his coaching career at his alma mater, Northwest Missouri State. While at NWSU, he helped the team to their first NCAA Division II Elite Eight appearance in school history. During his two-year playing career fro the Bearcats, Taylor led the team to the Sweet Sixteen as a senior in a season they started a then school record 13-0.

Espinoza joined TAMIU in the fall of 2017 as an assistant coach afer spending the previous two years as a graduate assistant for Newman University. The Uvalde, Texas native is no stranger to the Heartland Conference as he both played and coached for the Jets in Wichita, Kan. Espinoza spent two years with the Jets as a player before graduating in 2015. On the court, he was twice named to the All-Heartland Conference Honorable Mention team after appearing a grand total of 52 games, including 51 stats, where he averaged 14.3 points per game. After graduating from NU, Espinoza chose to continue his education and jumpstart his career in the same setting. He joined the NU coaching staff as a graduate assistant helping the team make back-to-back conference tournament appearances. He graduated with his Master’s Degee in organizational leadership in May 2017.

Taylor is a native of Delta, Utah and is married ot Mihindra Taylor. He has one daugther, Sydee Lyman (Porter Lyman, son-in-law) and one granddaughter, Harli Lyman.

NCAA DIVISION II BULLETIN ALL AMERICAN | EVAN MATTESON (2009-12)

Matteson became the first Dustdevil in program history to earn All-American Honors following the 2011-12 season. The Edmonds, Washington native earned NCAA Division II Bulletin Honorable Mention recognition after leading the Dustdevils to back-to-back Heartland Conference Regular Season championships. He was named the conference player of the year after averaging 12.4 points going 121-of-212 (.571) from the field and 104-of-145 (.717) from the free-throw line as a senior pulling down a team-high 6.9 rebounds a game. He finished his three-year career as a two-time all-conference player after playing his freshman season at Alaska Fairbanks. He ranks second in program history in blocks (82) and games played (87). He also ranks fifth in total points (740) and field goals made (245). Matteson was drafted by the Rio Grande Valley Vipers with the 199th pick in the 2012 NBA Develpment Draft. He also played professional in Norway, Japan and Spain.
