It’s a Family Affair It’s always inspiring when one of our manufacturer partners has deep family roots and pride in the industry, especially when the company’s products continue to be authentically American made. Colonial Bronze Company is a shining example. Since 1927, when Swiss immigrant brothers Maximillian Ruefelli and Joseph Ruefelli set up shop in the Bronx, Colonial Bronze has been designing and producing beautiful door and cabinet hardware with impressive precision. Miller’s Fine Decorative Hardware is proud to offer the new Josef Ruefelli line, which takes its “passion for precision” cue from one of the original founders. As Jamie Gregg, CEO for Colonial Bronze and nephew of Ruefelli explained, Josef was particularly obsessed with precision.

“His toolbox, which we still have,” Gregg said, “contains drafting tools, calipers, micrometers, and other gauges that attest to my great-uncle’s dedication to precision manufacturing. And since he came from the canton in Switzerland just over the border from Lake Como in Italy, his zeal for precision was heavily influenced by Italian design.” Each piece in the collection, with its jewel-like pattern and shape, is exactingly engraved into the surface of the hardware using diamond-tipped tools. While the collection has 24 standard designs from which to choose, it’s also possible for a customer to submit a graphic pattern of his or her own to be incorporated into the hardware. The line is created from solid raw brass and then finished in an array of single or combinations of finishes. Because the process is undertaken entirely within Colonial Bronze Company’s Connecticut facility, the combinations of finishes make the designs especially versatile.

From knobs and handles to appliance pulls and master closet hardware, the Josef Ruefelli collection is a sound, environmentally-conscious design choice. It is certified by Scientific Certification Systems (SCS) to contain 94% pre-consumer recycled material. And if you incorporate the Ruefelli line into a project that is seeking LEED® certification, it will contribute toward the project’s certification.

Open Houzz – A Big Success More than 100 design professionals joined us in our Jupiter showroom on February 25th for Open Houzz. This event was part of our ongoing Design Professional Series. Miller’s Fine Decorative Hardware invites design professionals, free of charge, to participate in educational and industry-related events throughout the year. Open Houzz was particularly popular as it offered a means for local professionals to gain insight into Houzz.com and how the online service can benefit their own company’s growth. Elyse Jordan, a member of the Houzz Community from Palo Alto, presented statistical information about our region’s housing market, what home owners are searching for in relation to design and products, and how to maximize the Houzz website for best results. Miller’s Wins Gold! Congratulations to our entire team of sales associates and staff for winning the prestigious Gold Club award from Waterworks. Vicki Pfeil, MFDH President was presented the award in New York last month at the Waterworks’ annual event for partner showrooms. Gold Club is reserved for showrooms and vendors that exhibit stellar sales and support for the Waterworks brand. Miller’s was the sole recipient of the award in 2014.
