ADUL

Senior Resource Association (SRA) provides services to support and advocate for independence and dignity of older adults in Indian River County. We provide nourishment, supervised socialization, transportation, guardianship and information referral services for seniors and their families. Our goal is to help keep seniors safe, healthy and engaged in our community.

Alleviating Senior Hunger Food insecurity — the economic and social condition of limited access to adequate food — affects older adults more than the general population. Avoiding food insecurity and hunger is more difficult for seniors because they may have enough money to purchase food, but they may not have the resources to access or prepare food due to lack of transportation, functional limitations, or health problems. Hunger is a serious threat facing millions of older adults in America. Senior Resource Association reduces hunger and improves the health of thousands of seniors every year, right here in Indian River County. With our diverse nutritional programs, we help maintain seniors’ health, happiness and independence.

MEALS ON WHEELS Home Delivered Meals Five days a week, seniors receive a hot, nutritious lunch delivered to their door by an SRA volunteer. For some, this friendly visit is the only socialization they experience. Our program gives seniors a sense of security while also providing them with a daily wellness check. Many seniors in our community are eligible to receive Meals on Wheels through specially funded programs. Senior Resource Association also makes the program available on a private-pay basis to those who can benefit from our essential nutritional programs.

Emergency Meals on Wheels Emergency Meals on Wheels provides a nutritious, daily lunch and a friendly visit by a volunteer to homebound seniors who have been discharged from a healthcare facility within the last 30 days — or whose caregiver has been admitted to a healthcare facility for a brief period of time. This is a short-term program provided at no cost to assist with recovery.

Senior Dining Sites Social Congregate Meals give mobile seniors an opportunity to socialize with others while enjoying a nutritious meal. Served at lunchtime Monday through Friday at multiple locations throughout Indian River County, the hot meal includes nutrition education and counseling. It’s an ideal way for seniors to interact with other like-minded peers who are not able to prepare their own meal or who simply enjoy the company of others while dining. As needed, SRA provides transportation to our senior dining sites.

Pet Meals on Wheels Because pets provide companionship and have many health benefits for older adults, we proudly support animal companionship by providing pet food for our Meals on Wheels recipients’ pets when funding allows.

NEW! Grocery Shopping Assistance A program for seniors age 60+. SRA staff pick up the client’s grocery list, do the shopping, and collect payment at the time of delivery. Accepted payment forms include cash, credit cards, and EBT. No delivery fee!
