Rachael’shusbandDougwascalled upontoaddsomeimpromptupiano musictothesecondhalf,although untilhesatdownatthepiano,hehad noideawhathewasgoingtoplay! Whatemergedwasafascinating improvisedpieceofmusicwhichwas verywellreceivedbytheaudience. Afteradonationwasmadetochurch fundstohelpwiththerunningcosts, atotalof£425wasraisedonthe nightandsincethen,Maureenhas receivedafurther£30indonations makingatotalof£455forLOROS. MaureenandRachaelwouldliketo thanktheaudience,everyonewho helpedwiththeconcertandtheten localbusinesseswhodonatedraffle prizesfortheirsupportinhelpingto raisemoneyforLOROS.

Beinghardofhearingcanbevery isolating.Socialgroupsandclubsare anenjoyablewayofmeetingother peopleandmakingnewfriendsbutif youarehavingdifficultyin understandingtheconversation,you tendtobeontheperiphery,notable toparticipateforfearofnothaving understoodwhathasalreadybeen said.
Noneofthiswouldhavehadanything likethebeneficialimpactthatithas though,wereitnotfortheexcellent tutorthatwehavebeensofortunate tohaveacquired.Someonewho patientlyunderstands,listenstoour needsandwhoappreciatesthat differentmembershavediffering requirementswithvaryinglevelsof hearingimpairment.Notforgetting thosewhosuffertheadditional burdenoftinnitus.(Tinnitusisthe nameforhearingringingorbuzzing thatcomesfrominsideyourears, ratherthanfromanoutsidesource).

IntheearlyhoursonemorningTony cameacrossa17yearoldabouttojump offarailwaybridgeinMeltonMowbray. Heimmediatelycalled999andused manywordsofcomfortuntilthepolice arrived.Hadhenotactedthenthere couldhavebeenamothermourningover
herlostson.
LastEaster,againinMeltonMowbray,he sawadriverswervingallovertheroad andassumedthedriverwasill,possibly havingaheartattack.Heunselfishlyused hisownvehicletoforcethedrivertostop. Itturnedoutthedriverwasheavilyunder theinfluenceofalcoholwhichofcourse resultedina999policecall.IfTonyhad ignoredthis,thedrunkdrivercouldhave killedhimselforotherssoTonyacted totallyunselfishly,potentiallyputtinghis ownlifeatseriousrisktosaveothers.

Another999callwhenTonyfoundan unconsciousmanlyingintheroadinthe earlyhoursofthemorningoutsidePizza ExpressagaininMeltonMowbray.
HadtoBreakintoaCustomer’sHouse
ThistimeitwasinRearsbythatsawour herospringintolife.Hecouldn’tgeta responsefromanelderlycustomer’s housebutsawlightson.Onceagainthis wasintheearlyhourswhenhecalled 999whosaiditwouldtakeawhilebefore theycouldgetthere.So,withtheir knowledgeheforcedentryintothehouse wherehefoundthevictimslumpedand strugglingtobreathe.Tonylaterlearned thatthepoorvictimhadsuffereda seizureandalsohadpneumonia.
