YearsixchildrenatStPeterandSt Paul’sPrimaryAcademyhavebeen learningaboutclimatechangeand haveproducedtheirownarticles debatingthequestion: Arewe, asa society, doingenoughtoprevent globalwarming?

Theimageaboveisanexampleof oneoftheirhandwrittenclimate changebalancedarguments. The followingessayshavebeentypedup foreaseofreadinginthenewspaper. ThankyoutotheirteacherMsParker forsendingthemintous.

Arewe,asasociety,doingenough topreventclimatechange?

Asmostpeoplealreadyknow, climatechangeisthechangein weatherpatternandglobal temperaturesintheatmosphere. Thesechangescanbenaturalor anthropogenic(manmade).The majorityofpeoplethinkclimate changeandweatherarethesame thing;itisnot.Climateisweather changeover20-30yearsand weatherischangedailyoreven everycoupleofminutes.Climate changeisavitalissuebecausethe worldhasheatedup1degreeand thatiscausingextremeweatherto happenlikerapidchangestothe Earth’stemperature.Thiswritingwill discussarewe,asasocietydoing enoughtopreventclimatechange. Manypeoplecontributetothecause ofclimatechange.Firstly,humans aredrivingmotorvehiclestoomuch. Thismeansthatitwillemitavast amountofcarbonmonoxide(a greenhousegas).Thisisbadforour environmentbecauseitcauses temperaturestorise.Additionally, humanswasteelectricityinthese followingways:chargingphones, games,televisionandevenmore.

Thesearebadforourplanet:we burnfossilfuelstomakeelectricity andthemoreweuse, themorefossil fuelswillbeburnt. Also, webreedtoo manycowsandthatwillleadtomore cowsburpingandthisletsout methane(agreenhousegas). This rapidlyincreasestherateofglobal warmingandiswayworsethan carbonmonoxide.

Ontheotherhand,activistslike GretaThunbergarehelpingsociety reducetheamountofclimatechange happeninginourarea.Firstly, humansareusingenergyproduced bythewind(turbines).Thesecan helppreventclimatechangebecause theyareclean,renewablesourcesof energy.Thisreducestheamountof fossilfuelsbeingburntintoour atmosphere.Next,societyis installingmoresolarpanelstoroofs ofhouses.Thiscanleadtoless carbondioxideinouratmosphere. Furthermore,humansarerecycling theirwaste.Thisreduceswastegoing tolandfillsandfactoriesproducing newproductsthishelps:factories wouldnothavetoproducenew products,whichpreventscarbon dioxidereleasingintoour atmosphere.

Overall, withalloftheevidencewe havecollected,Ithinkasasociety wearenotdoingenoughtoprevent climatechangebecausewearestill usingfossilfuelsandhavenearlyrun out.IfIwereyou,Iwouldstandup andstarttomakeachangeto preventclimatechange.

Arewe,asasociety,doingenough topreventclimatechange? Climatechangereferstothechange oftheglobalclimate.Thismaybe causednaturallyorbeanthropogenic (manmade).Manypeoplebelieve thatclimateandweatherhavethe samemeaning.However,climateis changeover20-30years;weather maychangedaily.Thismodernday villainistoday’sbigissue.Climate changewarmsouratmosphere causingextremeweatherpatterns.In thisessay,Iwillbediscussingtoday’s importantissue:areweasasociety doingenoughtopreventclimate change?

Therearemanywayshumans contributetoclimatechange.Here arethreewaysyourhouseholdmay becontributingtotoday’sbignews. Firstly,inalmosteverycountythereis apowerplant.Theuseofapower plantforcestheuseoffossilfuels(an unrenewableenergysource)to produceelectricity.Thisreleases carbonmonoxide(CO)intoour atmosphere.Thisunrenewablegasis unrenewableandpoisonsyouand yourfluffyfriends.Furthermore,

Thisissuchabigissue:treesuse photosynthesistoabsorbCO2 (carbondioxide)andreleaseoxygen. Ifthetreepopulationweresuddenly todiedown,CO2wouldcoverour atmospheretrappingheatand causingglobalwarming.Finally, electricityisunnecessarilyusedby manypeople.Suchasleavingthe lightsorgamingconsolesonwhen youleavethehouse.ThisemitsCO2, whichisagreenhousegas,intoour atmosphere.Thiscontributesto anthropogenicclimatechange.

GretaThunbergisamoderndayhero andhasbroughtwhatwasinthedark intothelight.Herearethreewayswe havechangedourlifestylesforthe better.Suchas,recyclingthingslike glass,plasticsandmetals.This reducestheamountofplasticgoing tolandfill.Thisleadstolessmicroplasticstransferredintoourearth. Thismakesitoneofthebestforwind turbines.Thisrenewablesourceof energyreleasesnogreenhouse gasses.Thismeansitdoesnotharm ourenvironment.Inthefuture,this mayleadtolittletonogreenhouse gassesreleasedintoour atmosphere.

Overall, aftercloselyexaminingthe evidenceabove,Istronglybelieve thatweasasocietyarenotdoing enoughtopreventclimatechange. Thisisbecauseifyouweretowalk downthestreetsineverycounty thereisatleastonepowerplant pollutingouratmosphere.IfIwerea globalleader,Iwouldurgentlyplace lawsagainstclimatechange.
