when buying or building WHY DO I NEED LIFE COVER? Life cover is strongly recommended by any bank or financial institution, In the event that you are unable to continue payments of the home loan, due to unforeseen circumstances' such as death, disability, critical illness e.g. cancer, terminal illness, strokes and heart attacks. Life is full of uncertainties, and no one plans to die and leave their loved ones with a financial burden. In the absence of knowing what the future may hold, you can prevent that your loved ones face additional financial troubles when dealing with your death, as this in itself will be distressing. You may be required to supply Life Cover prior to the home loan registration. WHY YOU SHOULD NOT DELAY TAKING OUT A LIFE COVER? Remember that your age also affects your premium meaning the older you are the more expensive your life cover premium will be, so do not wait until the day you decide to buy a house. Standard Bank launches 2nd Phase ofstandard Buy-A-Brick Initiative bank For the second consecutive year, Standard Bank launched its flagship Corporate Social Investment campaign, the Buy-a-Brick Initiative for 2016 at the Otjomuise Federation Centre in Windhoek on 30 September 2016. Coincidently the launch was held at the same venue, which marks the site where the first Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Standard Bank and the Shack Dwellers Federation of Namibia 10 years ago. The annual Buy-a-Brick initiative, which aims to alleviate the country’s housing shortage was launched by the Deputy Minister of Urban and Rural Development, Sylvia Makgone; Windhoek City Mayor, Muesee Kazapua; One Economy Deputy Director representing the First Lady, Uajo Akweenye and Standard Bank’s Head of Legal and Governance, Adv. Sigrid Tjijorokisa. Launching the initiative the Deputy Minister alluded to the fact that by working together the nation can meet the housing challenge that the country faces and make the most of the collective strength for communities.“I would also like to urge other corporates and institutions from the private sector to follow Standard Bank's shining example as the current housing challenge is a collective responsibility and cannot be left to Government alone. As Namibians we need more smart partnerships like these to alleviate poverty, address the housing shortage and promote employment in order for the economy to prosper. We should all be involved in making a positive difference in providing decent shelter to disadvantaged Namibians. It is through community projects like these that bring some form of relief to the daily pressures facing the less fortunate” Currently Namibia’s housing backlog stands at 100 000 growing at an annual rate of 3 700 mostly in the low income sector. Standard Bank’s Buy-a-Brick initiative is aimed at addressing the unavailability of housing for less privileged communities throughout Namibia. This year, the Bank raised and handed over N$1.4-million to the Shack Dwellers Federation of Namibia for the construction of 40 new houses for their Rehoboth members. “My call is to every Namibian and especially the corporate sector in Namibia to contribute towards this initiative so that together we cannot only eliminate the need for housing amongst this income group, but also facilitate a future Namibia where there will be no single shack. Where every Namibian in their homes will have access to basics such as water, sanitation facilities and electricity. I believe we all have a responsibility, and now through this project the opportunity to make a differences and facilitate as well as enable the change we so desperately want to see in our country. The time is now, let’s work together in the quest to create descent homes for all Namibians. Namibia is our home, we drive her growth,” said Adv. Tjijorokisa. Growing Tourism in Namibia There is a high need for upgrading Pools and Wellness Centre's for lodges & hotels due to the strong growth in Tourism. GET THOSE BLOOMS BACK “How do I get my Amaryllis to bloom again?” – a question often asked. Apart from being very affordable, Amaryllis bulbs bloom very freely, also indoors, and this is undoubtedly the reason for their increase in popularity as a holiday gift. The large, showy flowers make a bold statement and are available in an increasing variety of colours, shapes and sizes. They are easy to grow and may be brought into bloom every year if the plants are treated correctly. Understanding the plant in its native environment may make the process easier. Amaryllis are true bulbs of the genus Hippeastrum that are native to tropical and subtropical areas of the Americas. Some species grow in rock crevices in savannas

that have distinct dry and wet seasons; others grow in high plateau regions that have cool weather for most of the year. One species from Brazil is epiphytic and grows in trees in montane forests with no soil around the roots. Many species have been hybridized to produce today's hybrids, and most of these species experience warm, humid conditions with abundant rainfall for most of the year and a short, cooler dry season. To make your Amaryllis bloom again, you simply have to mimic the conditions that nature provides. Keep it cool through the holidays You can enjoy your Amaryllis for the maximum time possible by placing it in a location with sufficient light (no direct, harsh sunlight) and cool indoor temperatures. Keep it barely moist. When you water, be

careful not to get the portion of the bulb that sticks above the soil wet. If you have a large bulb, you may get two or three flowering stalks that bloom over a period of several weeks. Cut the flower stalks When the last flower has faded on each of the flower stalks, cut the flower stalk near the top of the bulb. Be careful not to injure the leaves or any emerging flower stalks. If the plant has been watered correctly a large amount of sap might run out of the hollow flower stalk. This quite normal and no cause for concern. *Increase light, water and fertilizer

In late winter the plant is in its growth phase and leaf production is now important to help the bulb bulk up for next year's flowers. It might be difficult to give your plant sufficient sunlight this time of the year, but try to move it to the sunniest location possible – a sunroom or south facing window. Fertilize it monthly with a liquid fertilizer like Efekto's Seagro or Nitrosol and never allow the soil to dry out completely. Move it outdoors in spring Once all threat of frost is gone, move your amaryllis outdoors. If some of the leaves wither and die during the adjustment period, don't be alarmed, new ones will grow. Choose a sunny spot and give a light watering daily. A liquid fertilizer application should now be every two weeks.

Keep it in cool storage until the bulbs signal they are ready to go Although amaryllis usually lose all or most of their leaves during dormancy, it is not necessary for all of them to wither to reach that stage. Keep the bulb on the dry side. Check the bulb every week – after eight to ten weeks of cool storage, the first tip of the new flower stalk should be emerging. Move the bulb to a warmer spot to encourage leaves to emerge at the same time the flower stalk is developing. However, a warm treatment is not needed for floral development. The bulb can be repotted in fresh soil at this stage, taking care not to bury the bulb too deeply – at least one third should be visible above the soil surface. The pot should never be more than two times the diameter of the bulb. Smaller side bulbs may be noticed when repotting - these can be broken away, also potted and grown in a sunny spot. They will not bloom in the first year, only after two or three years of growth. Start it warm and water tentatively Water your amaryllis thoroughly right after you repot it, and allow the soil surface to dry a bit before rewatering. Place in a warm spot to stimulate root growth, a sunny spot being the best. Trying to rebloom your amaryllis in dim light conditions, will not be very successful as the flower stems will grow tall and be more prone to breakage or tipping. Wait until the first flower has opened to move the plant to a location with subdued light and cool temperatures to preserve the flower as long as possible. Lily Borer not only attacks amaryllis, but also other plants such as clivia, agapanthus and arum lily. Physical damage to bulbs often cause them to rot. Typical damage shows as leaves with holes and chunks of leaves removed. Act fast and spray with Efektos Cypermethrin, 2 repeats should take care of the matter.
