HERE ARE THREE BOLD, UNIQUE, AND FUN IDEAS THAT WILL ELEVATE YOUR WEDDING BEYOND THE TRADITIONAL, ENSURING IT’S AS UNIQUE AND MEMORABLE AS YOU’VE ALWAYS DREAMED!
Planning a bar/bat mitzvah celebration might seem worlds apart from orchestrating a wedding, but they share more similarities than one might think. Both events kick off with a ceremony and culminate in a party. However, mitzvahs often escape the high-pressure quest for perfection that characterizes many weddings. With a focus on celebrating a 13-yearold, mitzvahs retain a joyful, youthful energy that could be a refreshing addition to wedding festivities. Adopting this approach could infuse wedding celebrations with a vibrant atmosphere while maintaining a sophisticated elegance.
DARE TO BE . . . BOLD
When it comes to making a statement at your wedding, bold colors and bold choices can be a game-changer. Vibrant hues and accents can transform any space, giving your celebration a dramatic and luxurious feel. Whether it’s through bold floral arrangements or centerpieces, striking table linens, or even vivid lighting throughout your venue space, incorporating bold colors adds an unexpected, modern twist to your big day, leaving a lasting impression on your guests.
DARE TO BE . . . UNIQUE
In the luxury event space, it is all about customization. Dare to stop looking through a catalog of existing pieces and create a vision of something new and totally YOU! Then, find a talented vendor to help your vision come to life. Get creative! Integrating fun, interactive spaces like your favorite game, an artist station, or a custom photo booth are also ways to have your event be different from the rest. For couples looking to make their wedding truly unforgettable, unique furniture and lounge setups and Instagram worthy photo op stations are the way to go. All of these ideas encourage guests to capture candid moments, adding an element of playfulness to the event. Consider a bold grand entrance, a guest performance, or even contests to help engage guests and make it tons of fun! The personalized and custom touches not only make the day more engaging but also reflect your individuality, ensuring your wedding stands out from the rest.
DARE TO. . . HAVE FUN!

Don’t forget— a wedding is a celebration; a celebration of you and your partner! Have fun tying in aspects of your personality and love! Have fun incorporating personal touches that speak to your unique relationship. Love traveling? Create a destination-themed reception, complete with decor that highlights your favorite places, or name each table after cities you’ve visited together. If you’re both foodies, curate a menu featuring dishes inspired by your culinary adventures or set up interactive food stations that let guests share in your passion. The key is to infuse your personality into every aspect of the event. From the music to decor, make it feel authentic, joyful, and entirely your own. After all, your wedding should be a celebration of your love, your quirks, and the life you’re building together—so make sure you enjoy every moment of it.

WHAT WEDDING VENDORS (but are too polite to tell you)
PLANNING A WEDDING IS AN EXCITING EXPERIENCE, BUT IT CAN ALSO BE A CRASH COURSE IN COMMUNICATION, ETIQUETTE, AND EXPECTATIONS. WHILE IT MAY BE THE MOST EXPENSIVE DAY OF YOUR LIFE, THAT DOESN’T MEAN CERTAIN COURTESIES SHOULD GO OUT THE WINDOW. YOUR WEDDING VENDORS ARE DEDICATED TO DELIVERING THEIR BEST WORK, AND MUTUAL RESPECT AND PROFESSIONALISM MAKE THAT POSSIBLE.
To help make the process smoother for everyone involved, there are a few things wedding pros wish couples understood. These are the insights they rarely voice out loud—but we hope you’ll take them to heart.
We asked seasoned wedding vendors on the Suncoast to share some candid truths about timelines, communication, and expectations. Their advice might not be sugar-coated, but it will help you get the most out of your vendor relationships and create a more enjoyable planning journey. After all, a little understanding and cooperation go a long way toward turning your dream wedding into reality.

DON’T EXPECT US TO RESPOND 24/7
“One thing that drives me nuts is when a client leaves a voicemail or email and then immediately texts to let me know they’ve reached out and would love a response. While I always want to reply as quickly as possible, we’re often in meetings or events, which makes our work a bit different from most businesses. We’re not always in front of a computer, so it may take a little longer to respond. We want to give our undivided attention to each client.”
– Katy Martin, COASTAL COORDINATING
No 2
LISTEN TO THE EXPERTS
“One of our biggest pet peeves is when couples ask for advice but then interrupt or dismiss it by referencing their experience planning someone else’s wedding. As professional event planners, we’re experts for a reason! While wedding planning is fun, it also requires problemsolving, counseling, and stress management. We value our clients’ input, but every wedding is unique—different venues, vendors, budgets, and personalities. When you hire professionals, trust that we’ll do what works best for you and help make the entire process easier for everyone involved.”
– Lauren Gertz, MDP EVENT PLANNING
No 3
THERE SHOULD ONLY BE ONE DECISION MAKER
“Managing multiple points of contact can be overwhelming. While it’s great to have help from family and friends, it often complicates the planning process, with too many opinions and questions slowing things down. We understand you want support, but with years of experience, we know that working directly with us—and ideally just one other trusted person—leads to a more efficient, stress-free experience. The fewer people involved, the smoother and faster the process will be, leading to less conflict and a more enjoyable planning journey.”
– Katy Martin, COASTAL COORDINATING

YOU’LL REGRET NOT HIRING A PLANNER
No 7
“Book an experienced planner and the right planning services for a smoother, less stressful wedding day. In our 8+ years of shooting weddings, the most chaotic days are when couples don’t have proper logistical or design support. A dayof coordinator is helpful, but partial or full planning ensures a more cohesive, streamlined day and better design choices. An experienced planning team offers valuable insight and ease, which is much more beneficial than a beginner. Keep in mind that your photo team won’t know all the logistics like an experienced planner does. Don’t underestimate the importance of planning support!”
– Shannon Dewitt, DEWITT FOR
LOVE PHOTOGRAPHY

YOUR BUDGET MAY NOT MEET YOUR EXPECTATIONS
“Vendors genuinely want to make your dream wedding a reality, but there’s often a disconnect between what couples envision and what their budget allows. It’s not about vendors being ‘too expensive;’ it’s about the level of craftsmanship, materials, and time it takes to achieve those results. A luxury wedding photographer isn’t just taking pictures for eight hours. They’re also spending days editing, planning, and preparing to ensure every moment is beautifully preserved. Be upfront about your budget. Instead of saying, ‘I want luxury on a shoestring budget,’ say, ‘This is my total budget. What’s the best way to maximize it for our vision?’ Vendors can help you prioritize where to splurge and where to scale back.
– Arron McNeile, MCNEILE PHOTOGRAPHY

DIY FLOWERS MAY END IN DISASTER
YOU NEED TO WASH YOUR HAIR
“We said dirty hair is ok, but your hair is radioactive! Listen, I know every hairdresser says dirty hair curls and will stay better, but that is only half true. If you have thick hair, a day or even two is ok because your thick hair will absorb the oils and still look ok, but if you have thin hair, you just don’t have enough hair to absorb the oils, and your hair will just look well, dirty. Dirty is not bad, especially for a martini or a joke, but not always great when you want bridal hair.”
– Michele Renee Zerda, MICHELE RENEE THE STUDIO
No 9
LET THE DJ READ THE CROWD
“We cringe when the couple gives us a long playlist of ‘must plays’ that no one knows, then expect us to rock their party. Clients must understand that sometimes you can’t have a picky playlist and a rocking dance floor.”
– Christopher Grainger, GRAINGERTAINMENT
No 10
“While it is a great way to save money, it is never a good idea to take the florals into your own hands. There are so many variables that can happen. What if the flowers don’t arrive on time or at all? What if the flowers are not great; how are you going to get backups for them? A florist has those contacts to get them right away. Will you have time to prep and process them the day before you put them together? Do you have containers or products like ribbon to properly make them? Who will deliver them on the day of the wedding? Do you have a fridge large enough to keep them cold? There are so many what ifs in these options. I highly suggest spending the money and getting a professional for this.”
– Katy Martin, COASTAL COORDINATING
NIX THE TIRED TRADITIONS
“The garter and bouquet toss are becoming less common because it calls out the girls who are single and forces guys to participate that clearly aren’t interested. Also, the person who caught the garter putting it on the person who caught the bouquet; if it isn’t strategic or one of them is not age-appropriate, it can be awkward! We are also seeing a lot of couples who forgo a cake cutting or just do it without announcing it, which is great because it doesn’t break the flow of the evening and can be done whenever needed to ‘let them eat cake’.”
– Carrie Wildes, CARRIE WILDES PHOTOGRAPHY
No 8
OPEN SEATING CAN BE UNCOMFORTABLE
“Open seating can work if done correctly, but often it leads to awkwardness for both planners and guests. Couples usually think it’s better for guests to choose their own seats, but it can cause stress as people scramble to claim their spots and avoid being split from their group. Guests who don’t know anyone may feel isolated and forced to interact. It can even create tension if guests don’t get along. If you choose open seating, ensure you have more tables and chairs than guests to allow for spreading out. However, assigned seating reduces social anxiety by guiding guests to their seats and allowing you to manage dynamics, keeping people with compatible personalities or apart if necessary.”

path, it creates its own, unafraid of what it looks like or where it leads. It is a celebration of authenticity, a bold declaration of who we are, and who we choose to be with. In its most honest form, modern love is about feeling seen, deeply and completely, by someone who sees you as you are.

ENJOYING THE WEDDING PLANNING process
It’s common to see TikToks and Instagram reels of people complaining about how stressful and difficult it is to plan a wedding. The frustration is understandable, but the reality is, if someone isn’t having fun with the process, they may not be approaching it the right way. Wedding planning should be fun! While there will be moments of stress, it’s important to remember that, at its core, planning a wedding is about organizing an incredible celebration—likely the best party a couple will ever plan. Plus, they don’t even have to cook or clean their house for it!
Here are some ways to embrace the truly fun parts of wedding planning, find joy in the less enjoyable aspects, and outsource the rest.
Catering Tasting
One of the best parts is tasting the menu that will be featured at the wedding. Couples can adjust, whether it’s adding some extra spice, removing onions, or tweaking the sauce. These small modifications will allow them to tailor the menu to their taste as well as their guests’.
Cake/Dessert Tasting
Undoubtedly one of the best parts of planning a wedding! Tasting various cakes and desserts is an experience to savor—literally. Couples should take their time and enjoy every bite, knowing they can burn off those extra calories later.
OUTSOURCE THE REST
For couples who are busy professionals with full schedules, taking on wedding planning as a part-time job might seem daunting. That’s where a professional wedding planner comes in. Planners can handle the logistics and walk couples through the process, allowing them to focus on making decisions and enjoying the fun parts of wedding planning. Additionally, planners bring valuable insights from years of
Dress Shopping
For brides, this is a chance to live out those childhood dreams of wearing a princess dress. It’s a special moment to share with loved ones like a mother, maid of honor, or grandmother. Champagne, good company, and beautiful dresses make for the ultimate girl’s day.
Hair & Makeup Trial
Who doesn’t enjoy a beauty day? Scheduling the hair and makeup trial on the same day as the engagement photos, a date night, or even the bridal shower ensures that all the glam doesn’t go to waste.
Engagement sessions are beneficial not just for the couple but for the photographer as well. It gives them a chance to see how the couple interacts in front of the camera, making capturing wedding day moments even easier.
Mock-Up
After months of talking about the wedding design, seeing a mock-up—whether it’s a single place setting or an entire table arrangement—helps couples visualize the day just as their guests will experience it.
Ring Shopping
Who doesn’t love jewelry shopping? Whether you visit multiple stores or decide to custom design the rings, it’s a fun part of the planning process.
experience and can connect couples with trusted vendors to help bring their wedding vision to life.
In the same way that people pay to have groceries delivered or skip the line by ordering coffee through an app, hiring a wedding planner is an investment in time. This frees up couples to focus on what matters most while ensuring their wedding day runs smoothly.

Celebrate Milestones
While tasks like touring venues or sifting through photography portfolios may not seem glamorous, couples can turn them into memories by celebrating each milestone. Booked the venue? Celebrate with a social media post! Signed a contract with the photographer? Treat yourselves to ice cream! These little wins help keep the excitement alive.
Date Nights / Planning Sessions
Late-night wedding planning sessions don’t have to feel like a nightmare. By combining them with date nights—like discussing plans over a romantic dinner or working on the seating chart with takeout—couples can make the process much more enjoyable.
Break it Down
Instead of facing an overwhelming to-do list of hundreds of tasks, couples should break the planning into smaller, manageable steps. Using a planning timeline allows them to focus on one thing at a time, which makes the entire experience more pleasant.
Personalize the Wedding
By focusing on ways to infuse their personality into the day—such as custom invitations or a unique playlist—couples can make the process more personal and build anticipation for the big day.
REMEMBER WHY YOU’RE DOING THIS
Throughout the wedding planning process, it’s essential for couples to remind themselves of the reason behind it all. They’re planning a celebration of love and commitment with their closest family and friends. While planning a wedding can feel overwhelming, with the right approach and a positive attitude, it can be an enjoyable experience. The memories made during the process will only add to the excitement of the big day.

LINENS
The often-overlooked foundation of any tablescape, linens are key to elevating a design. Whether you want to keep things subtle or go bold, remember that linens are something your guests will not only see, but touch as well. They’re one of the few design elements guests will continue to interact with throughout the event, so putting thought into the quality of your linens and how they speak to your aesthetic and guest experience is an easy way to make an impact.
THE BASICS OF CREATING A DESIGN
TO WOW
YOUR GUESTS
The tablescape is the golden child of wedding design - and rightfully so. When your guests spend so much of their time sitting at their table, this is one area you don’t want to skimp on. Below, you can read some tips and tricks for selecting linens, furniture, tabletop rentals, floral and decor, paper and signage, and lighting elements to create a thoughtful, intentional, and elevated design that will wow your guests.

FURNITURE
Just as upgrading linens elevates a design, the same goes for furniture. If you think about your guests’ first impression of your reception space, the first thing they will see is a room full of tables and chairs, and the first thing they’re likely to interact with is their chair when taking their seat. Considering the amount of real estate furniture takes up in a reception space, it only makes sense to incorporate pieces that seem intentional to the design.
Something as simple as table shapes and sizes can make a difference, but you can also think outside of the box and incorporate banquette seating, pub tables, and even lounge seating depending on your menu and the formality of the event - alternative seating styles work great for weddings that have small plate stations instead of formal plated dinners.

TABLETOP
Tabletop rentals can make or break a tablescape. Intentional, design-focused tabletop pieces will always be worth the investment. While we’re often limited to what’s available in your local market, the ever-growing popularity of tabletop rentals means that there are numerous and diverse options to select from regardless of the aesthetic or formality of a given event.
There are the obvious items like chargers, china, flatware, and glassware, but don’t forget items like napkin rings, salt and pepper cellars, bread baskets, butter cloches, and any other items specific to your menu. Even something as simple as selecting coffee cups and saucers to coordinate with your design can make a notable impression. And don’t forget to upgrade your glassware at the bar! Those pieces end up on the table, too.
FLORAL & DECOR
When it comes to tablescape décor, the sky is the limit. For flowers, there are countless varieties and ways to combine them. You should prioritize scale. Not that you need enormous mounds of flowers on every table, but the scale of the arrangements should make sense compared to your other design selections. Don’t be afraid to play with non-floral elements as well. For example, books, terrariums, unique vessels (even empty ones can make a statement), busts, and other tchotchkes – the list goes on.
PAPER
Again, this is a category where the options are endless, but the basics to consider are table numbers, place cards, and menus.
Don’t let the word “paper” fool you, though. These pieces can be made of any material you can think of. Some favorite examples include lamps as table numbers, calligraphed marble tiles as place cards, and custom books as dinner menus. Whether you go the standard paper route or choose less conventional materials, these pieces can add so much personality to a design.

LIGHTING
Lighting is the secret weapon of event designers. Aside from candlelight (and there are so many types, sizes, and colors to choose from), you can incorporate lamps of all different shapes and sizes into a centerpiece - even chandeliers can be worked into tablescapes. But you can also think bigger! Lighting installations above a table are a great wow factor, and pin spot lighting to accent centerpieces creates beautiful depth in a design. Lighting is something couples don’t usually think about investing in, but it makes a huge difference.
While the design elements in these categories will create a beautiful table, one final piece of advice to make the perfect table setting: aesthetics are important, but so is keeping the purpose of hospitality at the forefront of your guests’ experience. A tablescape should look beautiful but also lend itself to enhancing, rather than hindering, personal connection. Don’t overcrowd your tables, don’t select centerpieces that create a barrier to conversation, and make sure the seating you select is as comfortable as it is beautiful.
