What sets us apart? We buy our flowers directly fresh from the farm from all over the world. We take pride in the top-notch quality of our florals, and yet, we’re still able to offer competitive wedding flower pricing to our clients. Whether it’s the most romantic occasion of your life, a huge corporate gala or a milestone birthday, we’re here to translate your floral fantasies into reality.
Beneva Weddings has been committed to local brides and grooms for 32 years, helping them conjure up the wedding of their dreams, using flowers and greens as the medium. With over 50 years of combined experience, our team’s design knowledge and creativity are extensive, and it’s constantly being refined. When we’re not educating other florists, we are educating ourselves.
How far do we go? Beyond the Sarasota area, we’ll make our way to the barrier islands as well as to Bradenton, Parrish, St. Petersburg, Clearwater and Tampa Bay to the north. To the south, we cater to Venice, Port Charlotte, Boca Grande, Gasparilla, Naples, and Fort Myers.

For anyone looking for a fairytale, you are already well on your way! Remember how many fairytales start with the opening of a storybook? Imagine this guide is a storybook and when you opened it, you heard the words “once upon a time” emanate from the pages. (And you must imagine it because putting little speakers in the publication was WAY out of budget – we checked). Assuming you are engaged or heading towards an engagement, happily ever after is just around the corner, right?
But throughout your life, you have probably consumed films, books, and shows that focus on a grand wedding. Traditionally, comedies
and fairytales always end with a wedding scene. From a young age, we are constantly sold a wedding as the idyllic happy ending. But, what’s next? Couples spend anywhere from six months to two years meticulously planning this one day. And then you wake up one Sunday morning, your guests take a Lyft back to the airport and it is time to start the next phase of your life.
Your marriage and your wedding are not the same thing. One is not a reflection of the other. You still turn a year older whether you have a birthday party or not, and you can still move into your home without a housewarming party. So WHY do we put so much emphasis and superstition into our wedding day?
We must remember that fairytales are just showing both the best and most dramatic parts. We never see when Rapunzel has a bad hair day, or when Prince Eric goes on a rant about the subtle but constant aroma of fish. And even after ‘Happily Ever After,’ there can be tough times ahead (hello?! It is the stuff of sequels!). The REAL fairytale is the journey, not the end. And your wedding is part of that journey.
This may seem a bit bold coming from a wedding guide filled with advertisements all promising you picture-perfect nuptials. But you get to put the emphasis on your wedding day because it is what you want and not what you saw in a movie or read in a magazine. You get to be at the helm. No vendor wants to sell you any more or less than your dream (or the affordable version of your dream). If you are having a 300-person over-the-top affair,
or a courthouse wedding with dinner at a nice restaurant afterwards, just make sure it is what you and your fiancé both want. Forget about what your friend’s wedding looked like or how many tiers were on the wedding cake you saw on Instagram. If your wedding gets rained on, the food did not taste the way you expected, or you stuttered during your vows, it does not matter. The day can still be perfection even when things do
not go as planned. It has no impact on your Happily Ever After. What matters is that you celebrated your love with people you love. Whichever way you choose to or can afford to celebrate is good enough. You have had a whole lot of life before that day and hopefully a lifetime after it.
It is fun to get lost in the fantasy, but do not forget to enjoy the magic during the dating process and keep that magic going through whatever comes after “I do”. Eat the cake and do the electric slide (ironically, please). There is nothing wrong with obsessing about your reception and wanting it to be perfect. Just remember to not sweat the small stuff and never lose focus on what really matters.
In this spirit, we gathered three amazing couples who are proof that happiness exists before, during and after the wedding. They are a diverse group of people at different stages in their relationships that have one major thing in common – they have found a love that transcends one day.

Having just passed their fiveyear wedding anniversary, Joni and Nate’s marriage is strong and enduring like the roots of a tree. Wood may be the traditional fifth anniversary gift, but these two celebrated by welcoming their first child Marlie to the world.
While they were friends in high school, it was not until 10 years later after losing touch that they reconnected at a chance meeting at a Sarasota bar. Their first reconnect was a brief encounter, however it wasn’t until they ran into each other at another bar a few weeks later that they realized the universe was trying to tell them something.
Nate, a Sarasota native, works for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Sarasota as a Unit Director. Additionally, he works as a wedding and event DJ on weekends. Joni originally hails from Jamaica and moved to the United States at the age of 7. She now works for the Sarasota County Government.
Their daughter Marlie was their fourth try at parenthood after three emotionally painful miscarriages. Marlie arrived just as Joni and Nate were ready to seek alternative routes for becoming a mother and father. They found her name on Pinterest as “Marley” for a boy, but decided they only wanted the name with an amended spelling and for a baby girl. With a new member of the family, they are enjoying the next phase of their relationship.
“It is an honor to be considered and included in a space that typically does not always showcase individuals of various backgrounds,” said Joni. “As a multicultural family unit, we recognize the necessity of representation in media. As our daughter gets older, we want for her to be able to see herself when she looks at a magazine or turns on the TV and are thrilled to be a part of such a movement.”
WE HOPE YOU ENJOY THEIR FAIRYTALE STORIES AS YOU CONTINUE TO WRITE your ownJONI AND NATE
The engagement of Emmie and Lucas is a true pandemic love story. They met online in June of 2020 while the world was locked down, and they found an instant connection. Their first dates were virtual, having wine nights over FaceTime before eventually meeting in person at the mall. It wasn’t long before Lucas found himself down on one knee at Tampa’s Riverwalk, proposing to Emmie in January of 2021. Her initial exclamation of “no” was not a rejection, but pure shock and joy.
Both identifying as trans, Emmie and Lucas both work to give back to their communities. Lucas is currently a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Specialist in the tech industry. He works as a trans activist with Emmie by his side and looks for additional opportunities to educate whenever possible. Emmie manages a retail operation for a non-profit that supports survivors of domestic abuse.
As a queer couple, Lucas and Emmie’s wedding planning has been a unique experience. As they can be perceived as a heterosexual/ cisgender couple, Emmie and Lucas have made their identities in the LGBTQ+ community known to most wedding vendors involved. This allows them to work only with those who will offer a safe space and celebrate their love without judgment.
“It means so much to both of us to have the privilege to be visible for the trans community on the cover of a wedding magazine,” says Lucas. “It is so important to have diverse representation of all relationship types when working in the wedding industry and it made us feel seen.”
AUTHOR Jordan Oliveira-Heller swelevents.comJordan is the owner and president of Suncoast Wedding & Event Leaders (SWEL) and the publisher of this guide. Before deciding to herd event vendors, he was involved in hundreds of weddings as a caterer, venue coordinator, and even assembled a flower arrangement or two. Jordan’s favorite fail was once being fired from a job and, because of networking, had 3 new job offers by the end of that same day.
They are enjoying their engagement and in no rush to get married while COVID-19 continues to disrupt the wedding and event industry. They are set to be married in January of 2023 in Riverview, Florida, exactly 2 years to the date of when they were engaged.
While dating can be awkward, it can also be an exciting and amazing time in a relationship. Everything is new and you are constantly discovering something new about each other. That romance is still alive with Megan and Octavia.
A domestic violence survivor, Megan was left wheelchair bound after a traumatic situation. This was not a deterrent for Octavia however, who cares for Megan and assists her in her daily activities the way you would expect from an old married couple. They found each other on Facebook, not a typical site for love, but anything goes in the digital age. Megan’s story gets even more unique, as she was one of the children in the classroom with President George W. Bush at Booker Elementary when the first plane hit the World Trade Center on 9/11. She’s been interviewed about it throughout the years and uses her platform to bring more awareness to domestic violence.
These experiences helped shape the woman Megan is today and has made her an even better partner to Octavia and mother to her son, 7,
and Octavia’s daughter, 6. Megan is a stay-at-home mom, while Octavia works in the microbiology industry. While no date is set, they plan to marry sometime in the coming years.
Octavia loved being a part of our cover as it was “an exciting and different experience that I had the chance to share with Megan. It’s great that the guide expresses all love no matter the sex or race”.

You are throwing an event– whether it is a wedding, a family celebration or a party– the first decision is always the same, where will it be hosted?
But where do you even start? Most people go right to Google. They start searching before they even really know what they are looking for in a venue.
The first step is to bring all the decision makers together and talk through each of the topics below. Each person should have the opportunity to share their opinions and discuss their ideas. Then, as a group, they can be ranked by order of importance.
We know this is the worst part… but it’s the MOST IMPORTANT! Having a general idea of your budget will save you time looking at and touring spaces that might break the bank.
TIP: When asking family members or co-hosts how much they are planning on contributing to the budget, they often reply, “how much do you need?” Be prepared with an answer before asking, just in case.
Make the big bad list including everyone that you would want to be a part of the special event: friends, family, plus ones, and coworkers. Be sure to review your list to make sure you have not left anyone off.
TIP: Split it into an A-list and a B-list. The A-list are those guests you would be really disappointed if they weren’t at the party, while the B-list are the attendees that you might not notice weren’t there.
Are you looking for a formal ballroom space with black tie and gowns, a country club event with cocktail attire like suits and party dresses, a beach vibe with resort wear, or rustic barn chic with jeans and boots? Whatever your style, make sure everyone is on the same page.
TIP: Decor can transform any location. Chandeliers and drape can make a warehouse look like a ballroom. Don’t limit your venue vision by what you see.
How far are you willing to go to find that perfect venue? The Suncoast is a great location because there are so many venue location options within an hour or so of driving. Talk to each other about what you think might work the best for both the hosts and the guests.
TIP: Remember that travel costs can affect who RSVPs yes. Make sure the most important VIP guests are on board with your plan either way.
The time of day for the event could change the entire vibe. Brunch vs happy hour, a cocktail reception vs full plated dinner. Have a general idea of the start and end time as well as how much time you’ll need for setup and breakdown.
TIP: Some venues rent by the hour while others require a set block of time. Without an understanding of what you need before reaching out, you may end up booking more time than necessary.
AUTHOR Shannon Tarrant weddingvenuemap.comShannon Tarrant has had the privilege of helping over a thousand couples plan and celebrate the biggest day of their lives. Along with her co-founders Derek and Gail Berge, together they created the Wedding Venue Map. The print map, website, and social media accounts are Central Florida’s go-to resource for searching for a venue and highquality, vetted vendors in every category.
How flexible can you be in regards to the date? Oftentimes, Saturdays in the best weather months are the most expensive venue rental costs and can even come with food and beverage minimum spends.
Consider the following: availability of venue dates, whether you have the budget available now or need time to save, the weather, how much time you have to plan the event, and important guest travel.
TIP: Some venues are booked for prime Saturday dates 12-18 months in advance. Be flexible and consider a Friday or Sunday option if your first choice isn’t available.
We know, it can be a bit overwhelming. But by starting your venue search with the right information, you are saving yourself time, headache, and stress. Ask yourselves the right questions and make sure your planning team is on the same page. The journey to finding the perfect venue is supposed to be a fun one. Now take a breath and let’s start searching!
Dogs are family and we get that! If you want to include your dog in your wedding day, whether it is giving them a part in the ceremony or just including them in some photos, there will be a lot to consider ensuring everything goes smoothly. We have a few tips to make sure you AND your dog can have the best day ever!
You do not want your dog to be anxious or uncomfortable on your wedding day. If anything, their presence should be a stress reliever! Take their energy level into account and confirm there is time in the day for them to get enough exercise. Then, ask yourself how well they do in unknown environments, crowds and around strangers. This will help you determine the best way to include them in the day.
Your vendors want to make sure everything runs smoothly and so it is important to notify them your dog will be a part of the day. Discuss your venue’s pet policies and let your planner know exactly how your dog will be participating. Talk to your photographer about the photos in which you would like to include your dog. It is important to keep everyone in the loop!
AUTHORS
Kelly & Ilana
fairytailpet.com
FairyTail Pet Care is the nation’s 1st wedding pet care company. Founded in 2015 by two lifelong friends, Kelly Nova and Ilana Karcinski, they have included over 800 pets in weddings. The company’s mission is to treat their clients’ pets as if they are their own. Kelly and Ilana have donated over $20,000 to local shelters and animals in need while assisting rescues to find their forever home.
Consider what you would like your dog to wear for their big debut. There are great custom attire options you can order on Etsy, or you could even make something for them yourself! Keep their comfort levels in mind, as well as the weather and choose an outfit that will be a fun addition to their look. If you are planning to have your dog groomed for the wedding, we highly recommend grooming a couple days before the wedding, as opposed to the day-of, because a bath and a haircut can add additional stress to such a big day.
Just as you need a timeline for your day, your dog will need one as well. Plan what pictures and activities you would like your dog to be a part of and have arrangements in place to get them to each location. Prepare all their supplies, such as leashes, waste bags, water bowls, food, and lint roller in advance, then designate someone to be responsible for their care.
Your vendors will be busy working hard on other things and you likely do not want to put the responsibility of your dog’s care on one of your guests. A professional will coordinate with your vendors and provide transportation so that you and your guests will be able to remain completely present. Most importantly, a professional will make sure all your fuzzy loved one’s needs will be met!
