Head of School Review

It has been a busy and exciting week at school with sports and theatre productions on campus We are really excited about Willy Wonka Jr which starts tonight and runs through January 29th. Mrs. Lalania Vaughn; her daughter, TRA alumna Miss Logan Vaughn; and the students have been working so hard on the show, and we know that it will be another great event. Please make family plans to attend and support our theatre department.

This week we had our Board of Directors committee meetings and had some excellent generative discussions about the future of our school and the changes expected in the area with Blue Oval opening soon. During this meeting, it occurred to me that we are so lucky to have this group of talented individuals working together on behalf of our school. Under the guidance of Board Chair Harry SInis, this board is composed of Rose Fullen, Johnny James, Jason Butler, Stacy Fullen, Neil Howe, Wade Cox, Chris Slayman, and Elizabeth Lague. I have had the opportunity to work with some talented boards throughout the years, but none are more engaged and thoughtful than this group. They do this board work without compensation and give so freely of their time to make the school better for their children and yours, so please thank them for their efforts when you see them next.

Lastly, we have been working diligently to make some upgrades on campus. One area that you may have noticed is we have installed new LED lighting in the multipurpose room. This not only brightens up that area but should also save us some money on our energy bill. As well, we have installed new lighting throughout the campus and have also installed new digital thermostats. Two more upgrades that we are working on are a new campus Wifi network which will be installed shortly This state of the art upgrade should meet our campus technology needs for many years to come.

We are also planning upgrades to our playground, and you may have heard your students talking about our new Gaga ball pit in the upper elementary playground. We have several other new things that I will share in the days to come. We are so thankful for the donations from parents and charitable foundations that have paid for these tremendous upgrades.

I’d like to start off by recognizing our two senior students of the month for December and January. The senior students are recognized with students from other local high schools, by the South Tipton County Chamber of Commerce. This Student of the Month Program is sponsored by Patriot Bank, and we are so grateful for these local businesses and organizations who devote time and work into supporting future leaders who will hopefully return after college in some capacity to have an impact on the community that helped to shape them.

For the month of December, we would like to congratulate Emma Pence She is the daughter of Samantha and Michael Pence of Covington. Emma is our senior class president and a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Beta Club, Science Club, Art Club and Yearbook staff. She has a 4.0 GPA and is a member of TRA's ACT 30+ Club Emma serves as a Student Ambassador and the school's chaplain, which allows her to play an active role in chapel services. She plays soccer and runs track for TRA. Emma is also a member of the show choir and was selected to participate in the All-West Honor Choir She is committed to play soccer at Union University with plans to major in either special education or pre-occupational therapy.

The new gaga pit on the larger playground area is a HIT!!! For those of you (like me) who are not that familiar with gaga, gaga is a fastpaced, high - energy sport played in an octagonal pit. The more players, the better! It is frequently dubbed a kinder, gentler version of dodge ball and is highly addictive! Ask your 3rd - 5th grader about it! Thank you to our Senior project group, Dr. Andy Graham, Mr. Keith Owen, and Mr Nick James for getting this completed for us to enjoy!

Our fourth graders completed a planet scavenger hunt in the hall this week. They had fun getting up and moving around the building a bit while reading and exploring planet facts.

Our PreK-3 students enjoyed a visit from the Germantown SWAT team last Friday. Our very own TRA alumnus, Aaron Cox, brought the SWAT van and a patrol car These boys and girls loved this!

Mrs. Amber Adler had a great Bible lesson with kindergarten this week. She taught them the story of Jesus healing the paralyzed man. She began the lesson by discussing friendship and what kind of person makes a good friend.

PLEASE PUT YOUR CHILD’S NAME IN ALL JACKETS, SWEATERS AND PULLOVERS. WE HAVE LOTS OF LOST AND FOUND ITEMS THAT DO NOT HAVE A NAME IN THEM. ALSO REMEMBER THAT HOODIES ARE ALLOWED ONLY ON FRIDAYS. THE ONLY SWEATSHIRTS AND 1/4 ZIPS ALLOWED FOR DAILY WEAR ARE THE ONES WITH THE TR LOGO ONLY ON THE UPPER LEFT CHEST.

She asked the boys and girls what they consider makes someone a good friend to them. They learned that only Jesus can forgive our sins. They enjoyed Mrs Amber using the promethean board during this Bible lesson. They love it!

Kindergarten is busy learning place value. I caught Mrs. Allison’s class using the promethean to do a circle time math activity on place value. We know place value is so important in learning those fundamental math skills that will build on one another each year. Please remember that students are not allowed to be dropped off before 7:15 a.m. There are no helpers in our carline until then, and there is no one on duty to monitor students until that 7:15 time

Chapel was great this week! Michael Pence was our speaker, and our third graders led us in our music for the day. Logan Crull played his guitar for one of the songs, along with sixth grader Jace Scoggins. They did an amazing job!

I am so proud of our boys and girls of all ages that are helping to lead our worship time. Mr. Michael continued our series on prayer. He reminded the boys and girls that daily prayer is so important. He explained, that through the Holy Spirit, God enables us to keep our focus on Him while resisting the distractions of the world. We are so blessed to have this prayer and worship time each week! If you ever want to join us, just let your child’s teacher know you are coming. We worship at noon each Wednesday. I promise you will be blessed by this sweet time
