Upper School Review

BY STEPHANIE WEHRER There have been some exci ti ng events and acti vi ti es happeni ng in our upper school cl assrooms thi s week.

Ms. Vego’ s seni or Government cl asses parti ci pated i n a Zoom meeti ng and a gui ded tour of the Uni ted States Capi tol . Students were gi ven val uabl e i nformati on about the hi story of our government and i ts bui l di ngs, as wel l as how the l egi sl ati ve branch of our government operates under the Consti tuti on.

Thi s cl ass al so met wi th the current Chi ef I nvesti gati ve Counsel in the Tennessee Comptrol l er’ s Di vi si on of I nvesti gati ons, Mr. Mi ke Dunavant.

Mr. Dunavant was al so the presi denti al l y appoi nted U. S. Attorney for the Western Di stri ct of Tennessee from 2017-2021. He i s al so the father of a recent graduate of TRA. Our students are extremel y fortunate to have the technol ogy resources and network contacts, that affords them opportuni ti es to experi ence val uabl e i nstructi on outsi de the confi nes of tradi ti onal l earni ng.

Coach Stevenson has invested a lot of time and support for these runners and the growth of this program. 8th grade runner, Yianni Sinis finished in fourth place at the region meet last Thursday, advancing him to compete at the state meet this Friday.

Upper School Review CONTINUED I was fortunate enough to vi si t and observe the students demonstrati ng ori gi nal desi gns for cars, that had an i mportant purpose. These cars were to carry a raw egg down a ramp, col l i de wi th the wal l i n a sudden i mpact, but do so wi thout cracki ng the egg. Student cars were tested by bei ng ti med and al so by whether thei r egg remai ned i ntact or not.

Fi nal l y, I wanted to concl ude thi s weeks’ s update by revi ewi ng some of the uni form and dress code pol i cy i tems that are ones our staff has to address often. We are aware that Land’ s End has been struggl i ng, l i ke al most every vendor i n every i ndustry, to ful fi l l orders i n a ti mel y manner. I f you or your fami l y i s experi enci ng a del ay i n recei vi ng an order, and your chi l d has been addressed about a dress code i ssue, pl ease be sure to communi cate wi th a homeroom teacher or admi ni strator so that we know what i s goi ng on and can come up wi th a way to hel p i n the meanti me. This semester is flying by, as we are already in November! In this month of Thanksgiving, my prayer is for all of our students, staff and families to approach the upcoming holiday season with grateful hearts.
