Upper School Review

BY STEPHANIE WEHRER Veteran’ s Day i s an opportuni ty to honor al l veterans who have served our country and defended democracy. Today, our upper school students attended a speci al chapel recogni zi ng the si gni fi cance of the day by heari ng from Reti red Navy Commander, Li z Stephens. Li z’ s daughter, Maggi e, i s a 2019 graduate from TRA who i s now attendi ng Auburn Uni versi ty. We are especi al l y grateful to Li z for returni ng to our school and hel pi ng us to honor those, who l i ke hersel f, have responded to the cal l of duty.

TRA, and the upper school i n parti cul ar, woul d l i ke to congratul ate 8th grader, Yi anni Si ni s, and Coach Stevenson on the concl usi on of a very successful cross country season.

Yi anni represented our school at the TSSAA state meet l ast Fri day, and fi ni shed the race i n twel fth pl ace wi th an overal l ti me of 17: 27! He won’ t tel l you, so I don’ t mi nd sayi ng i t for hi m, there were not any freshmen or sophomores that beat Yi anni i n Fri day’ s race. Suffi ce i t to say, the future for thi s young man and the TRA cross country program l ooks very bri ght!

Upper School Review CONTINUED I am exci ted to share some smal l spoi l er al erts wi th you, about some upcomi ng cl assroom vi si ts that I have on my cal endar over the next several days. Ms. Vego’ s seni or government cl ass remai ns on my radar, as she has a coupl e of speci al guests l i ned up to vi si t campus and speak to her students about vari ous l evel s of government. I t i s so i mportant for our students to l earn about the structure of l ocal , state and federal government, as wel l as how vi tal i t i s for us to take an acti ve rol e i n our representati ve government functi ons.

Our school i s bl essed to have teachers who understand the val ue of these experi ences, and work so di l i gentl y to create l earni ng opportuni ti es such as these.

I n our freshman heal th cl ass, Coach Hood has crafted some creati ve connecti ons between l i fe ski l l s such as bui l di ng a resume and i ntervi ewi ng ski l l s and rel ated i mpacts that stressors l i ke those experi ences, can have on our mental heal th. They have compl eted some brai nstormi ng acti vi ti es to unpack rol es and responsi bi l i ti es associ ated wi th future j obs they envi si on havi ng one day. I wi l l be vi si ti ng thei r cl ass to observe the students conducti ng si mul ated j ob i ntervi ew si tuati ons, and I cannot wai t to see these ki ds i n acti on.

TRA Soccer ended on a high note last weekend as Junior Emma Pence played in the West TN Rising Star game, while Seniors Gracen Williams and Myah Wright took the field in an All Senior West TN All-Star Match.
