I read an article this week that discussed online learning and the many lessons we learned from it during Covid 19. Although I would agree we learned many new things and saw the potential in using technology, in my opinion, it fell far short of having the same impact as in-person learning. This week, I have had the opportunity to greet students at the door, marvel at and participate in Western Day, receive a visit from my prekindergarten students on G day presenting me with a gourd, watched a lively and competitive field day, watched our volleyball team compete in the Region, attended chapel, and on Friday, I will get to watch a great football game and see a Homecoming queen crowned. These are just some of the activities available to our students this week It is so essential for the students to be active, share common experiences, and most of all interact with their classmates. At TRA, each week is filled with fun activities and opportunities for our students. In my mind, there is no substitute for the bond between teachers and students in the classroom

Lastly, we hope that all of you have a safe and fun filled fall break with your families. Please be safe in your travels, and we are praying that all of you enjoy some much needed rest and some time to visit with your family,

This week Ms. Vego’s senior government class welcomed another guest speaker to campus. Congressman David Kustoff, serves in the United States House of Representatives for Tennessee’s 8th Congressional District. Congressman Kustoff spoke to students about the legislative process and in particular, some of the legislative pieces he has worked on. He went on to share with TRA students that he obtains ideas about what bills he introduces from his constituents, which is what elected representatives are supposed to be doing on our behalf. I’d like to extend a special thank you to Ms. Vego for seeking out opportunities for our students to hear from those working in real-world examples of government service We’d also like to thank Congressman Kustoff and his staff for taking time to come and visit with our senior students.

Ms. Hannah Maddux’s math classes worked on adding and multiplying decimals, percents, adding tax, and giving change. To help add a layer of real-world application, students “sold,” ice cream sundaes in order to demonstrate the concept. What a delicious…I mean exciting way to bring learning to life for our middle school students!

Well, there certainly is no place like HOMEcoming for the holidays! It’s been a fun and exciting Homecoming week so far. We’ve had hallways and doors decorated, creative costumes, and fierce competition in volleyball and field day. There is a lot of work that goes into this week’s festivities, but it’s also a lot of fun for our kids, and I’m so grateful for the opportunity to have fun like this in the school community. Please be sure to come out tomorrow night to support the football team and cheerleaders, as well as see our beautiful homecoming court as they represent their respective grade levels.

Fall is here and we are ready for it! We are super busy in the elementary school with lots of fun assignments and projects

Our PreK 3 celebrated letter “G” this week It is my favorite of all of their letter weeks They say “G stands for God, giving and gourds”! Each teacher received a gourd from a precious student who said, “God loves you”. He sure does! We are so blessed to be able to share God’s love on a daily basis.

Our PreK 4 students had fun with a hands on sorting activity to go with their letter “B” lesson. They sorted basketballs, soccer balls, baseballs and footballs. Our teachers love connecting math and phonics lessons together!

Our Kindergartners reminded us during Chapel of being obedient like Noah They also reminded us that God keeps is promises Kindergarten students led our Chapel this week with their Noah’s Ark program and it was perfect! They marched “two by two” into the PAC and sang songs and recited Bible verses to us. We love watching them learn God’s word and hopefully keeping those words in their hearts forever.

First grade read the book Enemy Pie and even made an “enemy pie” to enjoy. The story is about a little boy who learns how to turn your best enemy into your best friend. We love to read and share great children’s literature!

Our second graders wrote “If I Were a Scarecrow” stories and posted them in the hallway. These are so cute and so creative. Third grade also wrote fall stories this week and painted thumbprint tress to go with them. Writing is so important and is such an essential part of the reading process. Writing is a critical communication skill and it improves reading comprehension and reading fluency It has been said “reading is the inhale: writing is the exhale”!

Homecoming week has been so much fun! We have enjoyed the cute dress up days and we are looking forward to Friday’s field day, picnic, parade and pep rally! I hope you have a fabulous fall break and we will see you on the 17th!
