Winter 2023 Cornerstone
HeadofSchools Dr.AndyGraham
This has been an incredibly busy time on campus as we prepare for Spring. We have excited teachers, students, and families working diligently as we get ready for this non-stop season of activities Our students amaze us with their endless array of talents and their commitment to one another Our faculty members continue to prepare our students well, and their support of those in their classrooms is a beautiful thing to watch In addition, our studentathletes and coaching staff are working diligently to prepare for a competitive campaign All of this to say, it is an exciting time to be on campus and to be a Rebel!
As you read this edition of Cornerstone, I hope that you will enjoy hearing about the many accomplishments of our students On campus and off, our students are not only achieving great things but also serving others in their community God has given each of them many blessings, and it is heartwarming to see them using those talents to serve others It is an opportunity, as well, to catch up with our many alumni who are making their mark after their days in the hallways of our school It is an amazing time to be at TiptonRosemary Academy, and my wife Jennifer and I are blessed to be part of this amazing school community Thank you for your support of TRA, and I hope that you enjoy this issue of Cornerstone.

PRESCHOOL
PreK 2 through PreK 4
PreK3
During the first week in October, our PreK3 classes learned letter "Gg " Our students brought in gourds and pumpkins to deliver to each teacher and staff member Before our students delivered the gourds and pumpkins, we took them to our TRA Prayer Garden and prayed for the person that would receive one We then passed them out and shared the good news
“God loves you ” It is so important that we share the light of Jesus!!
PreK2
Our 2K pumpkin patch was a day full of fall fun Our parents were invited to come to our on-campus field trip All the students were able to go on a hayride, make a fall craft, have fun in our fall photo booth, and pick a pumpkin.
Following the field trip we were able to have a family picnic on the big playground We love getting to spend special time with all of our school family and build friendships to last a lifetime!
PreK4
4K has a unit that focuses on shapes We paint, build, color, create shape people and also have shape snacks This allows students to have hands-on activities and create connections to enjoy learning in many different ways
Ms. Susan Cranford, Principal
Elementary School Kindergarten
Our children are exposed to the Word through many different avenues Our Noah’s Ark Celebration is one way we lead others in God's Word This is a fun, two weeks worth of learning about the story of Noah and how he kept God’s promises, AND celebrating the 40th day of school. During these two weeks, our students read emergent readers, enjoy learning stations, which include creative "write the rooms," hands on activities, and special cooking time all based on Noah’s Ark To end our celebration, 5K students share their learning by leading the elementary students in a special Chapel service.
1st Grade
First grade uses trade books to teach various reading standards Children’s literature is a fun way to reinforce skills and motivate our students They are able to master skills such a retelling a story, main idea and key details, and author’s purpose. We used the book, Creepy Carrots, to teach the skill of retelling a story After reading the book, students were able to retell the story in their own words
2nd Grade
Second graders at Tipton-Rosemark Academy extend their thinking and curiosity in science by becoming a Secret Scientist. Each week, a student is chosen to share a simple science experiment with the class Once the student is chosen, they must keep it a secret until they share their experiment
Students love to learn new things, explore with their hands, and they are always excited about presenting their science experiment Allowing young students to feel like scientists is important in promoting a lifelong interest in science

This fall, third grade visited Cedar Hill Farm in Hernando, MS as a culmination of our study on plant life cycles We learned that plants can grow from seeds and about the process from germination to fruit. At the farm, we rode a hayride, completed a corn maze full of interesting facts, and then students were able to pick their own pumpkin from the pumpkin patch Everyone had a great time!
4th Grade
Every November, fourth grade has a “Community Service Day.” A few weeks leading up to this day, the students send in non-perishable items to donate to a local food pantry Our students take great pride in this and are always very generous in their donations We also take a couple of days to create cards of encouragement for our local police and firemen. Once our “Community Service Day” finally arrives, we deliver our items to the food pantry, help organize our donations, break down boxes, and help wherever we are needed We also stop by the police and fire stations to not only deliver our cards, but to also pray over them for safety Our hope is to make our community service workers feel appreciated and valued. Our students get a hands on experience of what community service is and how it makes them feel
5th Grade
Our fifth-grade students had a “blast” using the engineering design process to create a balloon float for our robots The students had to design their float and then create it using the given supplies Once their float was created, they then had to use the computers to code the path for the robot to take Through this fun hands-on activity, the students are learning how scientists test, improve, and retest their designs and ideas as well as communicate with others to solve a problem.

The fall semester left TRA’s upper school with so much to be thankful for, nothing more so than for another opportunity to have an impact on the lives of so many young people on our campus. We were blessed to welcome back many returning families, as well as so many new families to the school community. There have been many exciting things happening in the life of the upper school and its students since August
Our teachers and students have been busy with teaching and learning, complete with some really interesting experiences for our students Our senior government class welcomed visitors like former U S Attorney Mike Dunavant and current U S Representative David Kustoff They also visited the U S Federal Building downtown where they met with judges and attorneys, and also witnessed a trial proceeding! Mrs. Vego has made exhaustive efforts to ensure our students leave TRA with a strong understanding of civic responsibility and the function of government at every level Students in every division of our school participated in a mock gubernatorial election, and the results mirrored the actual state election results

We also added a new elective called “High School Seminar,” where students practice practical, real-life skills they will need beyond the walls of high school They practice college applications, completing the FAFSA forms, and even participate in mock job interviews at the end of the semester! The feedback we received from students, parents, and business leaders in the community was overwhelming! This was an excellent new addition that we will continue offering to our students, for sure!
Seniors presented their completed projects for Senior Project just before Christmas, and I have to tell you that I have never experienced the entire class of seniors being so overwhelmingly prepared to knock those presentations out of the water before But, my goodness, did these seniors do a phenomenal job not just with the presentations but with their entire projects
UPPER SCHOOL
TRA’s academic societies inducted new members to Mu Alpha Theta, Beta Club, and National Honor Society Mrs Kuykendall organized the AMC Math Competition for four freshmen, six sophomores, five juniors, and five seniors who competed for our school Additionally, our middle school math teachers organized the same competition for middle school students to participate Our upper school students seem to be so excited about math these days, they formed a brand new math club in the middle school and have planned all kinds of fun activities to share with elementary students!
We have five students from the junior class, Campbell Howe, Alice Sigler, Shasta Slayman, Emily Ross, and Hyatt Williams, representing TRA in the T.O.T.A.L. Youth Leadership program. Two juniors, Cade Harkness and Jaycie Carroll, were nominated to attend the Vaughn WestStar Leadership Summit at UT Martin, and two sophomores, Owen Peterson and McKenna Brigman, were selected to attend the HOBY state leadership conference at Tennessee Tech in Crossville The upper school had three students apply to EIGHT different Governor’s Schools this year! We hope to begin hearing acceptance notifications very soon!
The college fair was another exceptional hit on campus, with attendants from more than 30 colleges and universities being represented Senior students took the ACT during October, and nearly 30% of the current senior class are members of TRA’s ACT 30+ Club!
It has been an exciting and eventful semester, with so many things happening in and around the school Our teachers have been working hard to provide students with the best academic experience they possibly can I have always shared with others what a special school TRA is, and one of the things that makes it so special is you. The people and the community that support this school are what sets it apart from other schools. You are also the best resource for marketing to those outside of our school and why it’s such a special place. I’m sure that you may have seen recent coverage of the revival at Asbury in Kentucky I was so encouraged by the movement of the Holy Spirit in that community and how it impacted people not just around the country, but possibly around the world We should not be surprised by the state of the world around us these days Scripture tells us plainly that we wrestle not against flesh and bone, but against principalities The enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy I am so grateful for a community of Christians, and faithful prayer warriors within the TRA family It is my prayer that our students may feel the stirring of the Holy Spirit like at Asbury, and that His blessings will be poured out over our students and this campus
I am grateful for the opportunity to serve this school, its students and their families each and every day.
