Recycling is the process of converting waste materials into new products. It is an important part of reducing the amount of waste that ends up in landfills and helps to conserve natural resources.
One of the easiest ways to recycle is by separating your trash into different categories such as paper, plastic, glass, and metal. Many cities and towns offer curbside pickup for these materials, making it easy for residents to recycle. Additionally, many communities have recycling centers where residents can drop off their recyclable materials.
Another way to recycle is by composting. Composting is a natural process that converts organic waste such as food scraps and

yard waste into a nutrient-rich soil amendment. Composting not only reduces the amount of waste in landfills, but it also helps to improve soil health and promote plant growth.
Reusing items is another way to recycle. This can be as simple as using a refillable water bottle instead of disposable plastic bottles, or buying products made from recycled materials. By reusing items, we can reduce the amount of waste that ends up in landfills and conserve resources.
Recycling is not only good for the environment but it also has economic benefits. It creates jobs, stimulates economic activity and reduces the need for raw materials, which can help to lower the cost of producing goods.
In addition, recycling can also help to conserve energy. The energy needed to make products from recycled materials is often less than the energy needed to make products from new raw materials.
Recycling is an important part of reducing waste and conserving natural resources. It can be as easy as separating your trash, composting, reusing items, and buying products made from recycled materials. It also has economic and energy benefits. By recycling, we can reduce our impact on the environment, save natural resources and help to create a more sustainable future.
1. SEPARATE YOUR RECYCLABLES
Separate your waste into different categories such as plastics, glass, paper, and metals.
2. USE RECYCLING BINS
Place recycling bins in your home or office to make it easy to collect recyclable materials.
3. DONATE OR SELL ITEMS
Instead of throwing away items that are still in good condition, donate them to charities or sell them online.
4. COMPOST
Use a compost bin to turn food scraps and yard waste into nutrient-rich soil that can be used in gardening.
5. UPCYCLE
Upcycling is transforming waste materials or unwanted products into something new.
6. REDUCE WASTE
This can be done by using reusable containers, buying products with less packaging, and choosing products made from sustainable materials.
EVERY SMALL EFFORT TOWARDS RECYCLING CAN MAKE A BIG IMPACT!
Nestled in eastern Nevada lies a hidden gem - Great Basin National Park. Often overshadowed by the more famous national parks in the Western United States, Great Basin gives a unique and unforgettable experience to visitors. With its diverse landscapes, various wildlife, and fascinating history, this park is a must-see destination for any outdoor enthusiast.
One of the most striking features of Great Basin is its rugged mountain range, known as the Snake Range. The range boasts several peaks over 11,000 feet, including Wheeler Peak, the secondhighest peak in Nevada. The Wheeler Peak Scenic Drive offers stunning views of the range, and visitors can take advantage of numerous hiking trails that wind through alpine forests and along crystal-clear streams.
But Great Basin is much more than just mountains. The park is home to an incredible array of flora and fauna, including over 800 plant species
and dozens of mammal and bird species. Keep your eyes peeled for mule deer, bighorn sheep, and golden eagles, among other wildlife. And if you’re lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of a mountain lion.
One of the most unique features of Great Basin is its underground world. The park contains over 40 caves, including Lehman Caves, a stunning limestone cave system that features intricate formations and underground streams. Guided tours of Lehman Caves are available year-round, and visitors can explore the cave’s depths while learning about its geological history and the creatures that call it home.
But perhaps the most fascinating aspect of Great Basin is its rich human history. The park has been inhabited by humans for over 10,000 years, and evidence of their presence can be found throughout the area. From ancient rock art to abandoned mining towns, Great Basin offers a
glimpse into the lives and cultures of those who came before us. Visitors can explore the ruins of the historic town of Baker, once a thriving mining community, or take a guided tour of the historic Lehman Caves Visitor Center, a stunning example of Depression-era architecture.

You’ll probably be shocked to know that even with the record breaking snowpack and rainy weather we’ve been receiving, Utah is still in a severe drought. In fact, as of earlier this year, the U.S. Drought Monitor showed over 60% of the state is still in extreme or exceptional drought. Utah’s largest reservoir, Lake Powell, is currently at only 37% of its capacity and Lake Mead, which supplies water to Southern Utah is, is at a record low of 35% capacity.
As a result of the ongoing drought, multiple industries have been affected. Farmers have been forced to reduce their crop yields or abandon fields altogether. The lack of agriculture and dry conditions have opened the door to an increase in wildfires, which have in turn destroyed remaining crops. Wildlife, such as deer and elk, have had to migrate to find water and food, while smaller animal groups have been decimated by the lack of resources.
Local municipalities have taken great strides to encourage and practice water conservation principles. Multiple ordinances have been passed locally that affect both current residents and new homes being built in Washington County. These include prohibiting non-functional grass in
projects, rebates for landscape conversion and energy efficient equipment, as well as outlining watering schedules during the hottest parts of the year. While these initiatives have been a great start towards addressing potential water issues, homeowners must make the commitment to practicing water conservation (think shower length, excessive irrigation, and waiting for the water to become hot).
At the state level, Utah has committed itself to investing in infrastructure and technology to improve water management. In the community association management industry, steps have been taken to promote and encourage water wise practices. Communities and management companies across the state have signed the Association Drought Compact. UCCAI (Utah Chapter of Community Association Institute) has worked with state and local legislators to promote and adopt beneficial ordinances and laws that affect necessary change for our future. While the path to exiting dangerous drought conditions is long, the winter weather we’ve received has been an encouraging sign of progress. Regardless, it’s still up to each of us to practice water wise principles!

Earth Day is an annual event that takes place on April 22nd. It’s a time to reflect on our impact on the planet and take action to protect the environment. As we approach Earth Day 2023, it’s important to consider the ways we can celebrate this occasion and make a positive impact on the planet. Here are some ideas to get you started:
Make a fun day of going to your neighborhood park, bike path, riverbed, or lake! It is a fun way to hang our with friends. Many organizations and communities organize clean-up events around Earth Day. These events involve picking up litter and debris in public areas like parks and beaches. Participating in a local cleanup is a great way to make a tangible impact in your community. For example, several cities participate in a clean up of I-15 last year.
Trees are an essential part of the environment, providing oxygen, reducing carbon dioxide levels, and improving air quality. Planting a tree on Earth Day is a simple but powerful way to make a positive impact on the planet. You can plant a tree in your own yard or participate in a community tree-planting event.
Composting is a way to turn food waste and yard waste into nutrient-rich soil that can be used for gardening. By composting, you can reduce the amount of waste you send to the landfill and create a valuable resource for your garden.
Many businesses are taking steps to reduce their environmental impact. By supporting these businesses, you can help create a more sustainable economy. Look for businesses that use eco-friendly products, reduce waste, and support local communities.
One of the most important ways to make a positive impact on the planet is to spread awareness. Share information about environmental issues on social media, talk to friends and family about the importance of protecting the planet, and encourage others to take action.
Find organic remedies and wisely use pesticides to treat your garden so as to not harm our friendly pollinators. There are plenty of ways to help get rid of pests. I’ve used eggshells, cinnamon, and ladybugs, Yes! You can go and buy a tub of ladybugs to help get rid of pests.
THE LYRID METEOR SHOWER THAT HAPPENS EVERY YEAR IS ON APRIL 21-22 THIS YEAR! CELEBRATE EARTH BY TAKING THE TIME TO ENJOY THE SHOW SHE GIVES YOU. THE BEST TIME TO BE OUTSIDE IS AROUND 3 AM.
Earth Day is a time to reflect on our impact on the planet and take action to protect the environment. By participating in local cleanups and doing things like planting trees and spreading awarness, you can make a positive impact on the planet and inspire others to do the same. Remember, every action counts when it comes to stewards of our planet!
• GLASS JARS-

• EGG CARTONS-
Use your egg carton for seed starters for a garden or for storing fragile Christmas ornaments.
• PLASTIC BAGSPlastic bags can be reused as trash bags, to pick up pet waste, or to protect shoes while packing.
• NEWSPAPER-
Have some old newspaper? It can be used as packing material when moving, as a tablecloth for messy crafts, or as a fire starter.

Don’t throw out those old sheets. Repurpose it as a drop cloth for painting, as a picnic blanket, or as a fabric for sewing projects.
• PLASTIC CONTAINERS-

Reusing items in your home is a great way to reduce waste, save money, and help the environment. With a little creativity and resourcefulness, you can transform old items into something new and useful, giving them a second life and reducing the need to buy new things.
Plus, reusing items can be a fun and rewarding way to express your creativity and ingenuity, while also promoting sustainability and eco-consciousness.
I’m sure we have all thought to ourselves, “How does my neighbor keep their lawn so green and why can’t mine look that good? Maybe if I just water it more, then I’ll get it there.”
What if I told you that you can have that green lawn with watering less? What if I told you that you could also have a healthier lawn and have it greener all with watering less as well? Would you believe me?
Watering more is not always the answer. With water being one of our most precious resources, we need to find ways to preserve it by watering less! I know this is a backwards way of thinking that by watering less, you can have that healthy, greener lawn that you want, but it’s not backwards or impossible at all and it won’t require you to pull out your grass and install artificial turf or gravel. You see, it’s simply just chemistry!
Lawn Doctor uses a special product called HydraGuard to achieve this. HydraGuard is a proprietary blend of hydroscopic and
humectant technology combined with an advanced, naturally derived, non-ionic wetting agent, designed to manage soil moisture, minimize drought stress, and effectively reduce watering requirements.
So, for those that may need it broken down into layman terms, like me HydraGuard holds onto water until it’s needed by attracting free water molecules like tiny water magnets, and converts that water into microscopic droplets.
HydraGuard will also maximize your watering efficiency. Best of all, Hydra Guard is biodegradable and completely eco friendly.
Under a regular irrigation schedule, moisture in the soil is constantly elevated and then depleted by gravity, plant transpiration, and evaporation. This causes an unstable cycle of wet and dry conditions making plants vulnerable to disease, stress and death. By applying HydraGuard on a
regular basis it will help with retaining moisture around treated areas. And one application can last up to 3 months!
You can control or eliminate dry spots, enhance nutrient efficiency, help with uptake of Pesticides and Fungicides, help prevent fungicides all together and rot throughout plants, help with seed germination, help with the survival of transplanted plants and, as we talked about, help reduce watering expenses and water loss.
I personally thought the same thing when I first heard about this. “Ha, not here in the desert. There’s no way!” But I tried it and used the water conservatory districts restricted watering practices in our region with HydraGuard, and it worked amazingly!!
I was able to cut out watering days during the week on my lawn and my grass and plants are, believe it or not, not only greener, but actually healthier than they ever have been!
The grass can in fact be greener on YOUR side of the fence! Feel free to contact Lawn Doctor for us to help with your lawn and plants and to get us out to apply HydraGuard to your yard.
