A JOURNEY TO

T

he journey to happiness is just that, a journey, an endless pursuit. The feeling of happiness comes and goes with the ebbs and flows of life, one must understand that it is not a permanent feeling. For some, the feeling of happiness comes in the form of accomplishments and success, and others from having a family that has a roof over their head and food in their belly. For me, the feeling of happiness comes from a little bit of both. Having a career that I love and providing for my family over the last five years, life has not always been happy; depression had set in, and I was riddled with anxiety. I did not know if I was ever going to be happy. I slowly started gaining the concept of self-awareness and learned how to love myself again, it was then that I understood that I had to make my own choices to have the life that I wanted. My pursuit of happiness began when I craved a sense of peace, however, I had no idea how to do that or

even where to begin. I decided to bury myself in school so that I could have a career that would provide for myself and my daughter, but still, happiness was nowhere in sight. I was stressed out and sad until I got the push that I needed from some important people in my life. It was then that I started providing for my family, not only financially but with a healthy mindset. I began to have a sense of fulfillment; that feeling pushed me. It was more than that, though, it was empowering; the idea that I loved myself, my family and the direction my life was going was incredible. I realized I could create my own happiness, and that was eyeopening. I still have struggles, but I often remind myself that I am at peace and everything else is just temporary. Anyone out there who is in pursuit of happiness, stop. Start with finding your source of peace by creating a life that gives you a sense of purpose; happiness will come.
